5-0 out of 5 stars george is wonderful
George is good to read after an exasperating day with your toddler or preschooler. It reminds you that it could be worse, you could REALLY have a monkey to care for, and your monkeys don't really mean to get into mischief, they are just very very curiouus.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just as good as the original stories
To date my daughter has been reading the "Curious George" books that belonged to my husband when he was a child. I was a little skeptical that the newly written stories would capture the same spirit as thosewritten more than 30 years ago. However, my daughter absolutely loved itespecially as both the storyline and the illustrations were more detailedthan usual and made it fun for her to point out different things and extendinto a discussion with us about beaches, lifesaving etc. Like her other"George" books she has reread this one over and over. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The beginning of a wonderful friendship!
As of this writing, there are some 20+ Henry & Mug books, each one a small masterpiece. However, this is the one that started it all!!5-0 out of 5 stars great for the reluctant reader
My son was reluctant to read in his elementary school days. This series caught his attention and by the time he finished all the books in the series that we could find he was intrigued enough with reading to go on to other books. Now, he is a high school senior with stellar SAT scores.I'll give partial credit to Henry and Mudge!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, great series!
I just wanted to say that I unexpectedly found myself homeschooling my 1st grade son for part of the year and I have no idea what I would have done without Henry and Mudge! The series has really gotten my son's reading offthe ground. We have read every book in the series that we could get ourhands on and we're looking forward to new ones being released.Every bookin the series is well written, interesting and has just the right amount ofhumor without being outrageously silly. The Henry and Mudge series are myson's favorite books by far - they are great books for a beginning reader. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Myriad of illustrative techniques.Informative book about leaves.
The illustrator uses vivid photographs, paper cut images, nature colors and pressed leaves to illustrate a child's description of a seed growing to a sapling. The writing consists of nice large letters and smaller typed descriptions of 'bird treat' or 'sugar maple', 'round-pointed spade' or 'downy woodpecker'. The last four pages of the book are an indepth look at leaves, buds, roots and sap, bar, seeds, etc. Great book to read to kids in the fall days. Good to use with an exercise of asking kids to go outside and each bring in something different. As you read the book to them, they will have a tactile example to go along with the pages in the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Kids Love It!
This book is a must-read every autumn in our home and was purchased for us by Grandma who saw how enthusiastically one of her other grandchildren responded to it.When I surprised them with it last night at bedtime, (along with When Autumn Comes, also recommended) they hung on every word.Thisbook is both colorful and educational and has become a "classic" seasonal book for our family. My daughters (now age 9) plan to read it to their 5-6 y/o school book-buddy this year. You can't go wrong with this selection.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Leafy Review
I didn't really like this book. I wasn't ass colorful as other books. It mostly talked about leaves and trees. I didn't really explain much about how trees are formed and stuff like that. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A genuine story
Ernie comes upon another money making sceme. With the help of Dusty, someone to decorate the "coffins", Tony, the hole digger, and Swimming Pool, a tomboy who can cry on cue, they start a great business for pet funerals. This story is full of exitement and suspense when some things go wrong for the team of four.A great book....I have read it a lot!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm 42 and I Loved It!
My daughter has a list of books to read for a type of competition in her school.I order them for her at the library and she reads them.Every once in awhile I pick one up and read it to be sure they have decent content, etc. This one just looked good to me from reading the back cover and also the illustration.I read it and laughed and laughed. It was very enjoyable. It had serious moments in the book that helped round out what was happening in the story. It was well written.I would have to say that the author, although writing this for children, put in things that adults would chuckle over and enjoy; things you would understand if you watch old black and white movies. It's so enjoyable that I ordered a copy for our family to own.We have 8 children and I think all of them will enjoy this one!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Beloved Dearly
The Beloved Dearly is about 4 kids that start funerals for pets.Pet owners give them money and their dead pet for a funeral. The best part about this book is that one of the kid's names is Swimming Pool and she is very emotional during the funerals. This story is very humorous and is great to read.It will make you laugh. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars walking the dog no walk in the park!
Mr Putter & his cat companion, Tabby, do the right thing by volunteering to walk the neighbor's dog when the neighbor is injured. The dog takes total advantage of novices & runs them ragged the 1st few days.Mr Putter stoops to bribery to get the dog to behave better the rest of the time. The neighbor never knows the whole story. My guess is Mr Putter & Tabby think twice before offering to help that way again! My 7 1/2 yr old daughter & I have been reading together for yrs & are devotees of Cynthia Rylant's work.We have only been reading the early reader Mr Putter & Tabby series for the last yr.It has the wonderful ability to appeal not only to the new reader mastering the skill, but also to the experienced reader, overseeing the learning process, or continuing to read to the child. This is a feat as many "early readers" captivate the early reader but put to sleep the overseeing adult!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mr. Putter and Tabby Walk the Dog
Simple language and a hilarious storyline make this book perfect for the voracious or the reluctant reader. Mr. Putter and his cat tabby are a delightful pair, and their encounter with the neighbor's nightmare poochwill have kids laughing aloud. The accompanying illustrations only add tothe text. 4-0 out of 5 stars Archie, charming as ever
It's the day of the neighborhood pet show, and Archie plans to take his cat. But where IS the cat? Archie can't find it, so Peter, Roberto, and Susie reluctantly go to the pet show without him. 5-0 out of 5 stars Pet Show - Cute Even For the Moms and Dads Who Read It :)
Poor Archie. In the previous EJK book "Hi Cat," a darn alley cat follows him home after wreaking havoc with his day. Now, in "PetShow," Archie is ready to enter the contest with said cat -- but cathas vanished.Archie ultimately displays cleverness as well as kindness, awonderful lesson for little ones.EJK's books are always visuallygorgeous, with colors and textures that delight readers. But even thegrownup who reads this book will appreciate clever little Archie and thereminder that sometimes, tough situations require a little ingenuity and ahelping of grace.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great children's book and what pictures!!
I liked this book because of its colorful illustrations that enliven the story. The stories that Ezra Jack Keats write are so good to use for children to relate to.I recomend his books to teachers to use inbibliotherapy and for just anyone to read. I also have read "Peter'sChair" and again just as in all his other books you find real lifesituations in relation to life. Then there's his wonderfull illustrations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Persuasive writing
Teachers can look to this story as a great example of persuasive writing. Young Alex is trying to pursuade his mother to let him adopt an iguana. In a series of hilarious notes between Alex and his mother, the terms and conditions of pet ownership are hammered out. There is a "money" page (the point where the whole class bursts out in raucous laughter.) David Catrow illustrations are wonderfully comic. One young listener observed, "That kid is really weird looking." The last page evoked a class wide, arm pumping "Yesssss..." along with Alex. Great fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for classroom use!
I read this book aloud to my third graders. They loved it, and I would recommend this book. The text is a great model for mini lessons on persuasive writing, voice, and/or point of view. My students wrote wonderful persuasive letters to their parents following the use of this book. This book would work well in first and second grade too.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites
This is one of my favorite books for my 2 and 3.5 year olds. It's also one of their favorites. It's very witty. At first I was not so pleased with the illustrations. This is not a 'cute' book. But after awhile I got over the oddness of the illustrations and they're just part of the personality of the story. This book has turned into a read along story with my 3.5 year old.I read the notes from the mommy and she has the notes from Alex memorized. And the suspense of whether or not Alex gets his iguana on the last page of the book has not died down over time. It's great fun and I think as my kids get older they will still have fun with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Imaginative book for nature lovers
If you and your children love nature and the outdoors, give yourself a treat and read this book together. I read this with my 10 year olds, and all three of us loved it. There is enough adventure to spark a child's imagination, and the tale provides opportunities for teaching one's children about important conservation issues. The artwork is wonderful, and we had the poster which is included with the book matted and framed. My girls love to look at the poster, and discuss again the details of the story that are depicted in this wonderful artwork by Bev Doolittle. This is a book that your children will remember and return to again and again.
5-0 out of 5 stars Restoring the circle....
THE EARTH IS MY MOTHER is the tale of a girl named "Star" -- a spunky 11-year and a true heroine. EMM has been beautifully illustrated by Bev Doolittle--known for her "camouflage" Native American and wildlife artwork. Since millions of dollars from the proceeds of Ms. Doolittle's works have gone to support the National Wildlife Federation, you can imagine the major theme of this book is the preservation of the wilderness. The storyline is based on Ms. Doolittle's concept but the text was actually written by Elise Maclay, author of two books of poetry, "Approaching Autumn" and "Green Winter."EMM is a feast for the ear and the eye. 5-0 out of 5 stars adventure story for children who love nature
This is a beautifully written adventure story set in the Southwest which my son and daughter, ages 10 and 11, both loved. It made a terrific family 'read aloud' for all of us. Like most kids today, they are conservationistsand lovers of nature and Native American lore. The author artfully setsforth an important environmental issue, destruction of habitat, in anadventure-story format. The 11 year old heroine, Sarah, is brave anddelightful, wrestling not only with saving the earth but familydifficulties my kids empathized with. The illustrations by Bev Doolittle --'camoflague' art the kids loved to piece together -- are gorgeous.Weloved it! I'm ordering a few copies for friends -- it's a great summer readfor kids. ... Hachiko is a wonderful young puppy who lives with his master, Professor Ueno. Each morning the Professor tells Hachiko these same words, as he boards the train: "What a good dog you are. What a fine dog you are. Hachi you are the best dog in all of Japan." And every afternoon, at 3 o'clock on the dot, Hachiko arives back at the train station to greet his owner once again. A total delite. The stories are just long enough and adorable for children. They are also illustrated wonderfully and all mygrandchildren love them all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect little books!
This is a wonderful collection of about 10 "Biscuit" stories. We recently discovered "Biscuit" and my 2 year old daughter (and I!) have become smitten with him!I have been trying to get as many Biscuit books as I can find! "Biscuit" stories are really very short and very simply written, cheerful, sweet, innocent tales of puppy mischief - perfect for bedtime. We read two books every night, and it is always a favorite when it's a "Biscuit" book. The illustrations also really make the book - the colors are soft, and even the paper feels nice.It is nice to have a collection of several stories in one book like this, but I would say that the book is rather heavy and not easy to hold while lying down, so I think we prefer the individual story books. Either way, it's a real gift for a young child to have a Biscuit story read to them.Buy this! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A true story of friendship
Farfallina and Marcel is a true story of friendship. It teaches us that even through natural changes in life we can remain friends. This is a favorite story of my 4 year old son who likes to hear it over and over again. The water color pictures are beautiful and add a soft warm feeling to the book. I believe it's message is timeless and we will enjoy reading it to our children for years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite of everyone in our family
This wonderful, gentle story is a perfect end to a busy day. Our two ball-of-energy boys gladly climb into our laps at bedtime for another rereading of "Farfallina and Marcel." It's one of my husband's favorite bedtime stories to read aloud, and it always gives us all a warm, snuggly feeling (very conducive to quickly falling asleep!). This tale of enduring friendship and loyalty is enhanced by Keller's precise, yet accessible prose and the quiet beauty of her watercolor illustrations. Everyone from Papa to our kitties enjoys curling up on the bed together for this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fabulous Friendship!
I came across this gentle book while shopping for gifts for my daughter's 6th birthday. This is a book about friendship and that is a very important subject to kindergarteners.I felt the author approached the subject in a beautiful and touching way, showing how friendship can endure through the many changes that life will bring.I can't wait to read the book to my daughter.I plan on buying more copies to give to my friends, too. ... Los animales que aparecen son muy pocos y los más conocidos, como el gato, perro, caballo, etc.Esta demasiado aburrido para niños de 1-2 años.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great review or word introduction
If you know how to pronounce the Spanish words correctly, this is a great book for toddlers. I've used it with my Toddler Spanish classes, and even my 4-7 year olds as they are learning to form their own opinions and original sentences in Spanish. I love the simplistic, yet BRIGHT pictures and how wonderfully sturdy the slick pages are.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm know about goats
I like goats. They are good people, I mean pets. I mean that they are americans, like sheep. I like to refresh my memory about goats, that is why I bought this book. It helped me remember my fun visit with some little boys and girls where I told them about my pet who was a goat. I liked the story, especially the pictures. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great teaching Aid.
This book is a great tool to use to assist in having a different perspective. We tend to only see what we prceive as being there and looking at nature and how she hides our brothers and sisters is amazing. This type of books are needed in schools, in any teaching environment to assist children who are visual to let others know thier strengths and to assist those who depend on auditory and kinestetic to become more visual.

5-0 out of 5 stars With nature facts organized by animal type
This slim book is only 31 pages long; but don't let its appearance fool you: Reading The Wild packs in details on reading the signs of animal life and will require good reading skills from grades 4-6. Doolittle's beautiful full-page illustrations lend to nature facts organized by animal type and revealing the animal's habits and habitat. ... Read more

Dear Mrs. LaRue
5-0 out of 5 stars Loved this Book - by Dog Reviewer
Mom read this book to me and I loved the pictures, they were so colorful I tried to eat them. I don't blame Ike for taking exception to obedience school - doesn't Mrs. LaRue recognize that she has a wire fox terrier and we wires are inately naughty and disobedient! It's in our genes!Mrs LaRue should have gotten a German Shephard or a Rottweiler if she wanted a good dog!I highly recommend this book to my canine friends.
2-0 out of 5 stars Sorry...I don't like Dear Mrs. LaRue
It's only my opinion and no one agrees, don't belive me, I'm just a tiny voice, no one shares my opinion, so don't bother me, so if you like it, set your opinion free. Write a review wheather you're big or small or short or tall cuz' if you're small, use the kids review form. Click the "Write a review" link and choose "Use the kid's review form". Anyways, I think Ike, the dog in this book, is a liar. His owner, Mrs. LaRue, sends him to a wonderful obidience school but he wants to go home so what does he do? Send letters to Mrs. LaRue saying it's an awful prison! What? This encoruges lies! Maybe it dosen't encourage lies, but I didn't like Ike. Most children & their parents will love it. The rest of my family (Including Chocolate Dog, Russian Blue Witch, and JaneLovesJesus) love it, they think it's cute (that's why mom got it from the library, it looked cute) but I don't. Don't trust me, I'm a small voice in a sea of voices. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!" (Except this review.) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great black and white book
Picture books without text seems so rare these days, but this one, aimed at the earliest readers (or rather listeners) is great. There are just the animal faces on each page and the black and white only colors are great for young eyes which are still developing. The pages are board book pages, so great for curious hands (and mouths). The animals are really cute and the book is only 10 pages long so perfect propped up for tummy time and letting your child enjoy the pages as long as they can handle/want to.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Book Loved to Pieces
This book has gone through four of my babies so far, each one loving it.At only a few months each of my children would stare at each page. When they were old enough to hold the book themselves, it would be the book of choice.I even have a picture of my oldest asleep at age 4 mo. in her swing holding the book open. That oldest is now 7 and really loves to "read" it to her baby siblings.
5-0 out of 5 stars Baby Animals Black and White
This book is wonderful...my baby girl was 1 month old when we got it and she just loved it, other books and pictures lost her interest very quickly . We were amazed at how long she would gaze at the pictures and that she actually had favorites! She is now 4 months old and it is still her favorite. The Puppy and kitty pages make her smile.I recommend this book for any baby. I like this book so much i just bought 2 more copies to give as baby shower gifts! ... Read more

My son has ALL the Mr.Putter and Tabby books (which I highly recommend!), but this one is his favorite. These books are so sweet and funny and the illustrations are just tremendous!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, Humorous Book For Children
This was the very first Cynthia Rylant book I purchased for my 7 year old daughter and after reading it together several times, I bought all of the other Mr. Putter and Tabby books. It is easy to read, and very, very funny. The illustrations are great, very entertaining and whimsical.Thoroughly enjoyable!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny and sweet
This is another winner from the "Mr. Putter and Tabby" series. Old Mr. Putter and his old cat like to sit and watch the snow, but they must act soon if they want to think of something to give their nice neighbor, Mrs. Teaberry, for Christmas. Knowing her unlikely fondness for fruitcake, the intrepid pair decide to bake her one that wouldn't "break her toe if she dropped it." After much ado, they finally succeed in their effort, and fall asleep on Christmas morning in Mrs. Teaberry's house, having just delivered the cake. In the end, Mr. Putter goes home with "a very nice toaster that sang 'America the Beautiful' when the bread popped up." This gentle, subtle humor runs throughout the book and goes well with the colorful, expressive illustrations. Mr. Putter's persistence in trying to bake a cake is admirable. Furthermore, like many good Christmas books, this one shows the importance of giving. A fine book for kids who are just beginning to read. ... Read more
