5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite childhood book
Sterling NOrth has written a wonderful, touching, memorable book based on his childhood, and a raccoon named Rascal. It is beautifully written, and is suitable for adults as well as children. He describes each aspect of his childhood so well that you almost feel you are there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Companionship
My mom and I absoutly love this book! It's so cute how he's lonely and he wished for some company. So he goes out to the pound and finds the perfect cat. With similar qualties as him. From then on they do every thing together. They drink tea, eat muffins, sing opera, tell stories, garden, took long walks, take naps, and grow old together.Tabby knew just what Mr.Putter was going to do next.Mr.Putter knew exactly where Tabby was going to sleep next. It's just such a sweet story about the love Mr.Putter has for this cat and the love the cat has for him.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Story of Companionship
The Mr. Putter and Tabby series are the sort of books that I would have loved to have when I was a beginning reader. I know that I would have read them over and over again to no end, even once they began to fall apart from constant use. That's why I am so glad that Mr. Putter and Tabby are around now while my youngest brother is learning to read. The non-repetitious, non-rhyming storytelling contained within the books makes them a pleasure to read continually, unlike many other easy-reader books. And in my opinion, the Mr. Putter and Tabby books are a step in front of Ms. Rylant's Henry and Mudge collection, due to the fact that, in their own way, they create an appreciation for the elderly as the reader comes to love Mr. Putter, the aging main character whose only companion is his cat, Tabby. 5-0 out of 5 stars A tale that pulls on the heartstrings
With astonishing economy of words, Rylant sketches a life of solitude, then the beauty of companionship, in a way that can be appreciated by a young child, an adult, and everyone in between. All the "Mr. Putterand Tabby" books are good, but this one has an internal narrativepower that the others sometimes lack. In effect this is a story of mutualredemption, with a happy ending but (for adults) a poignant aftertaste. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My son's favorite Carl book
I just pulled our collection of board books out of the attic to clean up for my youngest child."Carl Goes Shopping" was obviously my son's favorite of his four "Carl" books - it was bent, chewed, food splattered, and basically loved to tatters.I intrepret this condition as a strong recommendation from a toddler.I decided to just throw it out and buy a new copy for my daughter!

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming Carl the Babysitting Rotty
Good dog Rottweiler, Carl,is left beside the escalator in charge of the baby and pram, while Mother shops. Carl and Baby decide to have an adventure. With Baby riding carl like a horse, they tour the department store trying things on and genarally creating havoc until Carl senses it is time to get back to the pram. Mother arrives back at the pram totally unaware the sleeping baby has been out and about and getting into mischief with Carl.....as always Carl will never tell. 3-0 out of 5 stars Not Carl's best effort!
We fell in love with Carl after reading "Good Dog, Carl!"We were amazed when we picked up "Carl's Afternoon in the Park."We were disappointed with this book, however. The story does not flow very easily (why do they spend so much time waiting by the elevators ... is this supposed to be a reality book???).This makes it difficult for a parent to maintain the child's interest in the book. The artwork isn't as detailed as the aforementioned books. Our two-year-old girls quickly dump this book for another.I would suggest previewing any Carl books before buying, to make sure they meet your expectations. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great
We've got all the Carl books! If you're just starting out I'd recommend Carl's Masquerade or Good Dog, Carl. If you have to have all the Carl books (like we did!), then by all means, go for it.
5-0 out of 5 stars The most beautiful children's book ever
This is just the most beautiful children's book. The watercolor pictures are magical. The story is told mostly in these wonderful pictures. You can tell it slightly differently each time, and your child can make up words when old enough. The pictures tell a story that is full of love, humor, and happiness. It just warms my heart. My son and I love it equally. We received it as a gift and plan to buy the rest of the Carl books. What a joy of a book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love that Carl!

I agree with the review from "From School Library Journal." I did think that this book had excellent pictures and a lot of good information but did not think that it was complete.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
Kids who are interested in horses really need a mentor who is experienced in all aspects of the care and handling of horses. And they could certainly use Horse Care for Kids by Cherry Hill, a horse trainer and breeder. In the past, Hill has been a judge and taught courses in horse management and training. She is also the author of 24 equestrian books.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great beginner horse book for kids
This book has wonderful illustrations depicting how to halter a horse, body language of a horse, horse colors, grooming a horse, and many more practical things to teach you to become a responsible and successful horse or pony owner. It is an easy- to-read book with 116 very informational pages. I highly recommend this book for any child interested in horses, especially one who is thinking about owning a horse. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Halloween
I didn't think my (young) 3-year-old would sit through this book. The text looked long, the art very detailed. But I was WRONG! This has been our nightly story for weeks and I confess: I'm not bored. It's the perfect touch--not very frightening and a reassuring story of self-confidence. Even my 2-year-old pops in for the occasional ghost or pig (no, he's not quite ready for the whole story although Curious George has kept him seated).
5-0 out of 5 stars A really wonderful book!
I bought this book for my daughter to celebrate Halloween. It is her favorite holiday so we read this book year round. The story is about a pig named John who is too scared to go trick or treating on Halloween with his friends.John stays back at the house as his friends go on without him. After they leave a real witch comes calling for some treats. When she sees that John only has candy to hand out she decides to teach hime how to make some real Halloween treats. They whip up such heavenly connoctions as pies, tarts, mousse, sundaes, and cookies. All of the witch's monster friends show up for a real Halloween party. Finally the witch tells John that they have to leave while it is still night out. When John's pig friends come back cold and tired they are amazed to find all of the treats that John has prepared. When John goes to bed he realizes he is no longer afraid of Halloween and he dreams of all of the new friends he has made. The illustrations in this book are great and the story is really sweet. My daughter loves this book and I really enjoy reading it to her. This book will really put you into a Halloween mood.

5-0 out of 5 stars This was a wonderfully sweet story of Halloween
I fell in love with this book from the start.I loved how John Pig portrayed his feelings about Halloween. There was so many adorables pictures that you begin to see new things in the pictures that you didn'tsee before. The witch is great - My kids loved that idea that she was afun witch. The food she made sounded heavenly... 5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful, detailed paintings illustrate witty story
This is a book for very young children, but the illustrations are so lovely and detailed, and the situations depicted so full of wit and little hidden jokes, that I never get bored with it, even after "reading" it over and over and over again with my toddler. This is my very favorite of the Carl books, because the activities are totally non-materialistic and wholesome (riding a merry-go-round and a train, sharing an ice cream cone, getting sprayed by a hose), and because the park is recognizably inspired by beautiful Balboa Park in my native San Diego, where Alexandra Day lives. It's worth it to get both the board book and regular hardcover editions, just to appreciate the greater detail of the images in the larger format.
5-0 out of 5 stars You can always add your own story
Carl is such a great dog, and the pictures are just beautiful.4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for the imagination
I justed picked this book up at the library. I think it's great to have the majority of the book with no words, just gorgeous, colorful pictures. The more detail in the pictures, the better, as my almost-two year old loves to "find things" in them. With no words, he and I can make up our own story, it lets him decide whats happening. I plan to buy a few of the series to have around all the time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Anonymous in New York
My kids absolutely love this book.Every time they see a dog they don't know, they ask what it is and look it up in the book. There hasn't been a dog they haven't been able to find yet.The color photographs, not illustrations, are great.I highly recommend this book, especially to kids who love dogs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for doglovers and dog haters
This book is great for dog lovers.I thought that the part about training your dog and such is dull because the pictures and accrual description of the dogs of the book is the best.It is great for someone who wants to get a dog and find which one is perfect for you.People whom already have a dog would not be board in this book. I had already had a dog before I got this and it was fun trying to find my dog and my friend's dog in this book.I think that this book is great for all ages because just looking at the pictures if fun.Anyone who says this is an awful book must be wrong only thing is there are more dogs in the back that do not have a description which means you my not find you dog in this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars be not mislead, it is about the breeds, not the care
As much as I like the book, it was not what I though it would be. This is a book about the various breeds explaining thme briefly to the child reader and introducing them by photos. Some of the best photos at a very reasonable price for those looking into the different breeds around! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids Love the Impossibility of It
In spite of the reservations of some earlier reviewers, I'd say our kids love the Carl books precisely BECAUSE nobody would use a rottweiler as a babysitter or as a pint-sized saddle horse for a toddler! We laughed and made a big deal to our kids that nobody would ever do any of this.
5-0 out of 5 stars Miss Green's Class, Lee Elementary School, Azusa, CA
Carl is a big dog who baby sits his family's baby and they have lots of fun adventures. You have to figure out what is going on by the pictures because only the first page has words. You will like this book.Carl is cool and we wish we had a dog like him.

2-0 out of 5 stars Won't show this book to my toddler
The fantasy story in this book is delightful, as are the illustrations. However, the book repeatedly shows a baby riding on a dog. There is no way I'm going to give the idea of riding a dog to my 2-year-old, especially because we have a dog in our household. This book would be better suited for older children who are able to recognize the difference between real and pretend. ... Read more

You shoud read Geronimo Silton BOOKS I like Trap. He always sings and calls Geronimo names like Germister. Geronimo is on an adventure. He is tryingto help these creatures called Yetis. There are only three of them left in the world. I think these books are really good.By Joe age 8

5-0 out of 5 stars Even my hubby loves Junie B.
My daughter started reading these at 4 and loves them. She just laughs and laughs. They are written just like little kids talk and they are really cute. We have almost all of the Junie B. books and this is one of my husband's favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a very funny book - a kid's review
I like this book because it is very funny. Junie B. Jones' class has pet day. Junie B. Jones doesn't know what to bring to school for pet day. Her grandma found a worm but she didn't want to bring it to school because it is slimy. Her grandma caught a fish from the lake. Junie B. Jones put it in a fish bowl. She wanted to bring it to school but she didn't. Junie B. Jones found something in the refrigerator. She decided to bring it to school. She brought it to school and it was a FISH STICK! I thought that was very funny. Junie B. was very glad. Do you know why? She was very glad because she got a prize and she got a ribbon. It says her pet was the "Most Well Behaved"! I recommend this book to others who like Junie B. books. I hope you enjoy this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delightful book for toddlers
I love this book, but not as much as Please Baby Please and it may be because we are not dog owners.Nevertheless, my [...] loves this book.Like me, he favors Please Baby more.He may like this book because he recognizes the similarities between the two. That said, we delight in the puppy's antics and read this book often.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for all high school science teachers!
This book should accompany any science text book because it is a reality check for teachers. The research is clear and comprehensive - no holds barred! After reading it from cover to cover I immediately modified myteaching practice. I reassessed my assumptions about what students know andcan do then and changed course. I have a greater appreciation for mystudents' views and misconceptions and now my job is to steer them straight- or better still, to coach them to construct their own science knowledgeand skills.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your Goats
I live on a farm and have almost every one of Gail Damerow's books. They are great for beginners, as I was, and for anyone simply looking for information on farm animals. This book in particular helped me with my goats.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your Goats: A Kids Guide To Raising and Showing
I'm going to be getting a dairy goat soon, and this book was very helpful. It tells you all you need to know about different kinds of goats, feeding, housing, health, and so much more. I would recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars new goat owner handbook
i recently gave my boyfriend a fainting goat, to join his aging wether which came with his rural property. he is from chicago, and knew nothing about the care, feeding, or otherwise necessary knowledge regarding goats. he has raved about this book, and is reading it cover to cover, sharing enthusiastically about his newly aquired knowledge. i also read it before giving it to him, and agree that although this book appears to be geared toward the younger owner, it is invaluable to anyone starting out as a goat owner, as well as a reference book for those needing reminders. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for animal-lovers with kids in their lives
Wow! This book is a great, easy-to-read way to start teaching respect for animals to children. My son didn't understand that his chasing the cat or teasing the dog were not OK, and that animals have feelings, too, until we read this book together. Now the title is a slogan we use around the house to remind him to be nice to our pets. He loves the detailed illustrations - there are surprises on every page - and we love the easy language to read together. This is a great book for teaching children how to love and respect - and understand - animals better. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Review of Teaching Physics with Toys
Although this book has what seem to be some really fun and illustrative experiments, I was a bit put off with how many toys and other prepatory materials I will need to purchase. Since I home school my daughter, I will be buying things for one time use. I'm not sure how much I will actually use this book.

Harry gets into another of his adventures, this time turning into a seaweed monster at the beach. The illustrations are delightful and it's a fun read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story!
I have had this book since 1969 when I was 6 years old. It is a treasured part of my childhood! It tells the story of a lovable dog Harry and his family spending an eventful day at the beach. Children and adults alike will love this cuddly tale.

5-0 out of 5 stars An adorable dog, kids, beach, adventure.'nuff said!

5-0 out of 5 stars great story
Ribsy is an excellent story my girls enjoyed listening to.They like to hear stories more than once, and this is one I don't mind hearing repeated! The packaging of the CD set is made of paper and I don't think will last over time and use.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ribsy
The main idea is Ribsy the dog was gotten himself hopelessly lost in huge shopping mall parking lot in a rainstorm. Ribsy runs all over looking for the Huggins` family car.
4-0 out of 5 stars funny, touching book for 6-9 year olds
In my opinion, this is one of Cleary's finest.
