5-0 out of 5 stars A collection of three dozen wise sayings from Native Americans
"Enduring Wisdom: Saying from Native Americans" is a collection of sayings by Sioux author Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve and Cherokee-and-African-American artist Synthia Saint James. As Sneve points out in her Author's Note, there are thousands of "wise" saying attributed to Native Americans, but much of what you will find here was passed down through oral traditions, because Native Americans did not have any written languages until long after white people came to the Americas. Those that were written down, often my missionaries, historians and anthropologists, have been translated and interpreted by those outside of the cultures. The book's End Notes detail the original selections for all of these quotes, so you can see where they came from, although the authors of the quotes and their dates are identified in the book as you go along. The passages come from Native Americans who were among the earliest to make contact with Europeans up to those from contemporary tribal people who value their heritage.

5-0 out of 5 stars A deftly presented spiritual as well as practical work
J. Krishnamurti's has been called "One of the greatest thinkers of the age" by the Dalai Lama. Based on Krishnamurti's "Books on Living For Teens" series, What Are You Doing With Your Life? is a philosophical discussion of probing issues and problems directly affecting young people. From the difficulties of relationships; to hard choices about one's education and future work; to find a purpose for one's life, and more, What Are Your Dong With Your Life? is a deftly presented spiritual as well as practical work, a non-denominational treatise which is broad in its intellectual discussion and willingness to raise hard questions. As the chapter on "Truth; God; Death" points out: "What is God? How are you going to find out? Are you going to accept somebody else's information? Or are you going to discover for yourself what God is?" What are You Doing With Your Life? is a very highly recommended addition to school, and community library Philosophy collections for adolescent and young adult readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Krishnamurty's teachings condensed
After having studied umpteen books from Krishnamurty, this is the one that seem to contain the nectar of what he undertook to convey. A 'must-have' for the beginners as well as for the already initiated. Organization of the text in sub-headings further adds to the charm and simplicity of the book. For someone yet to get acquainted with Krishnamurty, I recommend the reading of the "Commentaries On Living" series first. That would prepare a fertile foundation for Krishnamurty's teachings to reap in!

5-0 out of 5 stars An truly accessible introduction to Krishnamurti
I have been reading Krishnamurti for over 35 years. He is the sage to whom I turn when I need a simple, clear, and compelling understanding of reality. I recommend his books to many people, and yet I find that for most readers he is anything but simple, clear, and compelling. They find him hard to understand, and harder to apply to their daily lives.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Accidents May Happen
Accidents May Happen is a wonderful book, full of facts about the origins of some of our most commonly used items.Everything in this book has one thing in common - thay were invented by mistake! This book by Carlotte Jones is truly amazing, jam-packed with interesting facts.Who would have thought Ring-around-the-rosie was about the plague?Or that cheese was invented by an Arabian traver, on the back of a camel?Anyone who likes fun facts would enjoy this book. Accidents May Happen is definitaly a good read.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fifty amazing inventions with interesting explaination.
I read this book and I found some amazing things behind the inventions which are now fads.As the yo-yo is a really cool thing around it used to be a weapon and then it accidently turned into a toy for children. You maythink that Nursery Rhymes are not very cool, but the cool part in NurseryRhymes are stories of old history. For example, Ring Aroud The Rosey usedto be a poem about a disease that killed people in the old times.Thefirst line, "Ring Around The Rosey," used to be one of thesymptoms of the disease which was a rosey rash on the person's body. "A pocket full of posies," was flowers that would supposedlykeeep evil away for the human. The next line, "Ashes, Ashes,"was "A-tishoo, a-tishoo," which they would need because theysneezed a ton."We all fall down," was the last thing thathappened to the people that got this, they would fall on to their bed anddie. There is the thing behind,"Ring Around The Rosey."Thereare many other cool inventions in that story and all of them are great.Ireally liked the book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A profound allegorical tale brought vividly to life
The collaborative effort of author Kay Thorpe Bannon, illustrator Kristina Rodanas, and storyteller Robert H. Bushyhead, Yonder Mountain is the truly impressive picture book retelling of a Native American folktale. A wise old Cherokee chief must choose a successor to lead him; so he sends three young men out on a journey to a mountaintop. One returns with precious stones that represent wealth; one returns with healing herbs to guard against disease. But the third, who climbs all the way to the top of the mountain, returns with something even more crucial to being a leader. Yonder Mountain is unreservedly recommended as a profound allegorical tale brought vividly to life with sweeping color illustrations. ... Read more
