5-0 out of 5 stars The most recently published AP Physics book by a master
If I remember correctly, James Mooney has taught physics to boarding school kids in New England for 20 years, so there's no doubt that this book is as good as, possibly even better than, Princeton Review, which most people buy for AP Physics. There were two reasons why I chose to use this book although I owned PR as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Physics books quite often are dry: not this one...
Physics books quite often are dry: not this one, which will reach from grades 4-6 with a spirited, involving survey of the 'weird and wonderful' side of physics. From why balls bounce and other things don't to how to make forces bigger, understanding a raindrop's shape, or developing an electric flea circus, experiments and illustrative examples are very easy to duplicate and reinforce learning.
5-0 out of 5 stars Creative Exploration of Life's Mysteries
"You might think scientists have got everything worked out, but the truth is that science is full of mysteries and questions, and that's why this book is full of questions too. Most of them have easy answers, but some have no answer yet." ~Richard Hammond

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
My 10 month old son loves this book, we have to continously read and reread this book or he will cry, real tears and all. My husband, the grandparents, and I dont even look to read this one.I would recommend this book for any baby the pictures are bright and colorful, and the story is short and sweet, enjoy with your little one.

4-0 out of 5 stars A favorite of ours
My son is 7-months old and he loves this book as well as some of the other Baby Einstein bath books. He has a tub full of toys but always chooses 4 or 5 books to read and nothing else. The only gripe I have is that the author goes a little far just to make it rhyme, even if it doesn't quite make sense. He's too young to understand now, but later I'm going to have to explain "...they don't float because they sink."That's not a reason.

5-0 out of 5 stars favorite short fun book
My 3 1/2 month old loves this book!We have been reading and looking at the pictures for 2 months already!I love this book because it is short and can keep his baby attention span.It is soft enough for him to hold and put in his mouth.Great present!!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars "surreal"
There's not much to be said for the American imagination if it finds books such as this "challenging".I think "elliptical" would be a better defintion than "surreal".David Byrne has fashioned an interesting book that will not take up too much of anyone's time, which I suspect may be part of its 'raison d'etre'.It's bright, colourful, and printed on heavy stock - so heavy you may find it separating from the spine of the cover. All the dots are there, you just have to do the connecting.

3-0 out of 5 stars A book for the surreal thinker
People who buy this book should realize that what they are buying is a visual essay with sub-titles...not a piece of lengthy literature. That is not to imply that this book isn't any good. It's actually very thoughtprovoking for people who actually think! The book is loaded with photosand illustrations juxtaposed with BRIEF TEXT.The goal of the book is tooffer a surreal opinion about the moral and emotional motivations in oursociety. It's also poking a very accusing finger at the advertising world. 5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
Brilliant...like a month's worth of dreams captured in color. It must've been very expensive to print, and it shows. Usually after buying books of this nature, I read through them once and put them down for...well, years, sometimes. But this one has kept my attention for the month since itarrived; I find myself looking to it at least once a day for inspiration.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars We're not as smart as we'd like to think
In the introduction Challoner writes that ancient people did not understand energy and an understanding of energy has only emerged in the past several hundred years. This is innacurate. People who still live ancient indigenous lifestyles often have a very sophisticated understanding of energy that is in fact far more functional than that of many modern people. While we often use energy indiscriminately without realizing the source of the energy of our food or our fuel, ancient people and those who still live in ancient ways are far more conscious of the energy they consume and where it comes from. Because they live in the ecosystems from which their energy comes, they have no choice but to use it responsibly, unlike "advanced" civilizations. The book may have plenty of accurate information about energy, but there is no need to introduce it with the myth that "advanced" cultures are superior in wisdom to ancient ones. I don't critique this because it is offensive, but because it is dangerous. Modern people must relearn what was once known by everyone: that if we don't understand our resources and use them wisely, we will have to live in the mess we create.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Very Detailed Book
I've read alot of books about space, but this is the most detailed space book I've ever read. The part about time machines and black holes was confusing but very interesting.I had no idea it was possible to make a time machine, or is it? This book may not be right on everything but I trust it.I trust all the books I read (not including fiction books). The part about the box and the light going through was really interesting.I don't get everything in the book, but I still liked it.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is extrodinary (and makes you think a lot.)
Eyewitness Time & Space tells about many time theorys as well as space theorys (actually, they are one, also known as "spacetime" as it metions in the book.) This book tells about the history of time and space and how people have dealed with it over the milleniums and centuries, bio-space and bio-time, and spacetime laws. It even talks about going "across the universes". This means there are parallel dimensions happening trillions at a time when someone makes a choice and goes up that "root" in time, also known as "quantam universes". Sound confusing enough? There's also a chapter at the end of the book that says how you can create a time machine, but it would be really difficult, becuase it says you need a black hole. This book is facinating, yet it may be confusing to some people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for kids...
I got this book from the kids' section at our public library to help with some research I was doing. I haven't been a kid in decades, but I still absolutely loved Time & Space. Today, after having renewed the library book three times, I decided to order it from Amazon. It's something I want in my permanent library. I do not have a scientific mind, but that's okay. This book is written for the non-Einsteins among us. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Radium: It slices. It dices.
The biography for children is rarely done well, if at all. It's too easy to take the life of someone famous, slap a few facts together, and then sell copies of your newest creation to countless school libraries around the country. When it comes to bios for small fry there are two modes of thought.Either you're going to do the least interesting, simplest biography (thereby boring both your child reader and yourself), or you're going to put some work into your creation and place the subject of your biography within the context of their times.Ms. Carla Killough McClafferty has opted for the latter."Something Out of Nothing: Marie Curie and Radium" starts slow and then builds and builds until you find yourself in a remarkable world of radium drinks, pills, and miracle cures.McClafferty is no stranger to the world of radiation, having penned a history of the X-Ray for kids before. Now she turns her sights to one of the greatest female scientists in the history of the world. From stage frightened Polish child, to Parisian researcher, to her death at the age of sixty-six, Marie Curie's life is propped before us with just the right combination of kid appeal and facts.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy To Read Fascinating Biography
I've always loved to read biographies. If you have a middle reader, you'll appreciate Something Out of Nothing. Carla McClafferty has combined solid research with excellent writing.
