5-0 out of 5 stars Heed the Warning!
The Lorax is another book by Seuss with a powerful message within its pages. Its message is more overt and obvious to the reader than other Seuss books. Simply stated, we must take care of the natural resources around us or they could be forever lost. The main character in the story is filled with greed at the prospect making and selling more Thneeds. He continually ignores the Lorax's warnings. For a while, he and his family are very successful and prosperous, but in time the prophetic warnings come to pass. The trees are all gone, the air is black with smog, and the water is thick with sludge. For me, the Lorax represents those in our society who put themselves on the front lines to protect our environment. Many ridicule them and call them "Tree Huggers!" But, we should think twice before we dismiss their warnings. We have already seen many of the parallels between this book and reality occur.

5-0 out of 5 stars The favorite of a father and a daughter.
As I approached my 100th review, I wondered if I should make it special? Tonight I decided what it should be after reading it to my daughter.
5-0 out of 5 stars How much do I love this book?!
I love, love, LOVE The Lorax! This book should be required reading in schools, especially in light of the current trend towards corporate responsibility. Every time I hear someone defend a toxic product, I think, "But a Thneed is a thing that everyone, everyone, EVERYONE needs!" ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best One Yet!!!
My 4 year old niece loves Don't let the pigeon drive the bus.She recently got Don't let the pigeon stay up late and it is her new favorite. She loves yawning with the pigeon throughout the book. This is a great bedtime book.Very funny!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Author needs to learn to be a lot more personable and care about the children he writes the books for
I purchased this book for my daughter because her school was going to listen to him read at the local book store. My daughter had wanted to get her picture taken with him but couldn't because her class had to leave so she asked if I would please get him to sign her book saying that she had met him so she could always remember this day.I told her that I would be happy to.I went up to have him sign it for her and asked if he could please put something saying that it was nice meeting her so that she would always have that memory. He refused said that he writes his own which is always the persons name rocks-not real personal. He said I could write that on the other page saying that she meet him.Needless to say, I returned the book.Any one who can not be nice and take just 1 minute to make a little girl happy by simply giving her a memory is not worth buying!!!I would highly suggest buying a different book by a different author. There are tuns of great children books out their by authors who truly care about making children happy and making a difference.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not one of Mo's best, but still a must-have
Mo Willems is very popular in our home. Our six year old adores the pigeon books. We have read them all, and own most of them."Don't let the Pigoen Stay Up Late" is the weakest book in the series, but is still adorable and we had to buy it."The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog" is still the favorite in our household, however. The pigeon books are excellent to read to toddlers and excellent for early readers to read out loud for themselves. ... My four year old loves the Olivia books, and we couldn't wait to get this one.We laughed the whole way through, especially when she put on the lipstick.Hooray for Olivia!

1-0 out of 5 stars Olivia Mails It In (or Falconer Mails It In) Your choice.
My son enjoys the Olivia series immensely. "Missing Toy" and "Saves The Circus" are on their second copies at my house due to the wear and tear of the originals. We looked forward to "Forms A Band" and were delighted to finally get it at our local bookstore. Disappointed at the results puts it mildly. It is a disjointed mess, with a terrible ending (and if the end is political message, that is just awful and inappropriate)Olivia has lost her edge which is why we love her and the imagination scenes showed none, which is unusual for this series. Ours lasted two reads before it was pushed aside for one of the vibrant other Olivia books. I would buy this book only to complete a collection and nothing more. It is terrible. I would give it 0 stars if I could.

5-0 out of 5 stars review written by a 5 year-old
From one to five stars, this book is the best! I loved the adorable mice in "Whose Mouse Are You?" And I was amazed when I found out that a dog could disguise itself just by getting very dirty in "Harry the Dirty Dog." I'd love to give it thirty-zillion stars, for I'm giggling when I see Ferdinand sitting on a bumble bee!I am going to be reading lots more giant books, for this one is great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book - so much variety and interesting stories!
My son and I love reading the 20th Century Children's Book Treasury. We have read from it every night for the last two months straight, and are still going! It is so much fun to discover new, unique stories. We would have never found many of these stories/books on our own. Some books come from different cultures. I have only heard of 6 or 7 out of 40 plus books included. With 40 plus stories, the Treasury is a great value. The Treasury has the original book's pictures too, but not as many of them.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great for travel, not for everyday reading
This is not the book to buy if you're looking to expose your children to a wide array of children's literature at its best. This is, however, an excellent book to purchase if you're going on an extended trip with a small child and won't be able to bring or acquire a big stack of books while away. Yes, the illustrations are too small. Yes, there are edits. But this book got me through three weeks abroad with two two-year-olds -- enough said. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Monsterrific!
I simply MUST put in a plug for this fabulous book! As a mom and an illustrator, I was drawn to the amazing art, and I thought perhaps the kids would like it, too. Oh, MAN! It delivered on all points: Amazing art, perfect rhyme (SO hard to find rhyme that really works in a book; it's spot on), and YES- the kids love it and keep going back to read it over and over. I think they do view it as a bit of a fun challenge- there are lots of details and subtleties in the art and text. And I did have to sing "The Girl from Ipanema" to them, because they've never heard it. Overall-YES! Make more books like this, Adam Rex!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's pronounced Fraaank-unt-steen
Okay. So here was my dilemma. I was supposed to review a children's book of poetry and I had several choices in front of me. I could review the inner city take on "Casey At the Bat". I could do the meaningful one about a Caribbean country. I could do the one about various epitaphs to people of different professions (I am not making this up). Or I could do the goofy monster one. And the ball fell in the goofy monster's court by a loooong shot. You hold "Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich" in your hands, and you may not be sure whether or not to trust it. Should I give this to a child? Will they actually enjoy it? Then you read the tiny byline under the title. "And other stories you're sure to like, because they're all about monsters, and some of them are also about food. You like food, don't you? Well, all right then". Any picture book of poetry that says, "Well, all right then", on its cover has won my irony-laden little heart. It's just a nice plus that the poems inside just happen to be funny, beautifully illustrated, and interesting in all sorts of different ways. 5-0 out of 5 stars YOU MUST OWN THIS BOOK

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Enchanting....
This is one of my favorite Robert Sabuda pop-up books, although I am admittedly a fan of all of them. While this book is fairly monchromatic, the simple silver, glitter, and white papers highlight just how impressive the folds and cuts really are. That mere paper can be engineered to leap off of the pages as deer, or swirl upward in a silvery river as fish, or open up as a cave to a den of foxes is truly amazing and it never fails to enchant me or my children.
5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, wonderful pop-up book.
The intricacy of the cut-outs is stunning; the artistry of the whole book is amazing. My son loved this book when he received it as an Xmas gift.We will enjoy it every year for years to come, I am certain.

5-0 out of 5 stars If It's Cronin, It HAS To Be Five Stars!
In our library, we can't keep her books on the shelves, and the once-again winning combination of her words with Betsy Lewin's pictures just cannot be beat. Our small patrons love her books on one level, while their parents are getting a kick out of them on a totally different one.I always appreciate authors who understand that they have two audiences, after all, and Ms. Cronin feeds both appetites. The clever, gentle humor of this book will be welcomed by discerning parents, and by the end, I am sure of two things: Farmer Brown will never catch on, and I will never hear "Born To Be Wild" again without thinking of the beloved Duck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than its predecessors!
I didn't think life got any better than Click Clack Moo, but Dooby Dooby Moo tops it. I love it! Dooby Dooby Moo is one of those rare books that holds enjoyment for kids and adults alike. Kids like the story of the talent show and each animal's attempts to win, while parents get to laugh their heads off at the pig's interpretive dance. It's a great read-aloud book because the adult can sing along (very easy tunes we all know) and kids love that part. I highly recommend Dooby Dooby Moo, especially to any lover of Farmer Brown's motley crew. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The mother sings to her sleeping baby: "I'll love you forever / I'lllove you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be." She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary--but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across town with a ladder on the car roof, climbing through her grown son's window, and rocking the sleeping man in the same way. Then, inevitably, the day comes when she's too old and sick to hold him, and the roles are at last reversed. Each stage is illustrated by one of Sheila McGraw's comic and yet poignant pastels. 4-0 out of 5 stars love you forever
I found i love you forever to be a very true tale of a mothers love. Throughout the story the boy goes throught lifes many changes and phases, continuely disobeying his mothers wishes only to find himself in his mother arms everynight, as she recites the same poem expressing her unconditional love. At storys end the tables turn and a heartwarming turn of events is expressed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sweet message, but not our favorite
This book really does have a nice message about unconditional love that a parent has for a child. For that I give it major kudos. On the other hand it is a bit sappy and maudlin for my taste.I agree that the mom showing up at the son's house is a bit strange, but it is a children's book. It's not supposed to be entirely realistic.I think (hope) that part is supposed to be more symbolic.I think the illustrations in this book are so-so and pretty uninspiring. However, it really is a sweet story and there's no harm in having this in your collection of kids books.

A classic story, but one that needs some explaining. After all, bullfights aren't really PC these days.If you try not to get too deep, it's still a nice story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Classic Story
I picked this book up at the bookstore about three years ago for my oldest son who at the time was 4 yrs old. They think some of the pictures are hilarious.Would highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Story about a Bull named Ferdinand
This is about Ferdinand who was a bull but didn't act very much like a mean, rough bull. The illustrations are in black and white, but they are quite funny (especially the men in the three funny hats). This is a classic story that I read growing up in the early sixties. It is still a good story despite it's age.Parents should read the classics in children's literature to their children.A must read ages 4-8. ... I loved this book as a child, my sister and I would go around saying the tongue twister name over and over!We would try and out do each other by who could say it the fastest. Now she is adopting a beautiful daughter from China and I thought this is the perfect book for my new neice. She will be able to enjoy this fun story of two brothers who not only play well together but help each other when one is in trouble, like falling into a well.It teaches children that even if they are not the first born they are just as special.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite read-aloud book during elementary school.
When I was in kindergarten, our teacher played the cassette for our class as she turned the pages of the book...letting us hear the story as it unfolded. It has left a lasting impression, which Iwill pass to my kids. I have wanted to get a copy of it because I loved the tongue twister name and I'm happy to see Amazon carries it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodnight Moon in Spanish
As an NY born of Dominican decent, I love reading this book to my little one.My 20 month old daughter loves this book. We have both the English and Spanish versions of the book.Often times she brings her Dad or me both books to read to her.We start with one gets tired of it mid-way and then she wants us to pick up where we left off in the other language. It doesn't really matter to her which language we start/end with.We change it up all the time.I agree with some other reviewers that the translation is not exact, but the flow is very good with the changes that were made.I especially like "la viejecita que teje muy calladita" instead of "a quiet old lady who was whispering 'hush'," especially since I knit and my daughter can relate to that.Because of this book she has begun to comfortably alternate luna/moon and star/estrella.I think it's really important for my little girl to learn both Spanish and, obviously, English and this book makes it that much easier to accomplish.

I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Beginner's Bible: Timeless Children's Stories
We wanted to give a gift to each new baby from our women's group at church. We thought this would be good because it will provide a way for mom to read to the child as it grows.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but Lacking
It is a good Bible for children who are learning to read, but not suitable for reading and teaching accurate bible history or lessons to young school age children. The stories are simplistic, and, as one reviewer suggested, kind of "leave you hanging". The illustrations are also simple, and very "cartoonish". 5-0 out of 5 stars Book for kids that parents will love too
This is one of the best pre-k early reader books ever! What makes this a great book is it has humor that mom and dad can appreciate too, which is great since they'll be reading it over and over again! The art and vocabulary are simple but very effective in communicating the emotions of our hero the pigeon. This is a must have in every child's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST PreK-Grade2 book series EVER!!!
It was love at first sight. After finding Mo Willems' "Don't Let the Pigeon Ride the Bus," my son was hooked. He couldn't wait to read it by himself.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Feel Like I Like This Book!
This is our second encounter with Jamie Lee Curtis as an author and like the first (Where do Balloons Go?) they loved it!In this book we join a little girl as she takes a whirlwind tour of 13 different emotions, each told in that same sing-song rhyme that appears to be a staple of Curtis' writing. The rhymes are brought to life with the same riot of color illustrations that really seem to appeal to young readers! The kids especially liked how the colors used changed with the moods while maintaining their vivid shades (there is nothing gloomy or lackluster about this book). At the very end, there is a large picture of the girl in the story with a set of wheels that the kids can turn to see a selection of moods which was quite humorous and led to much discussion between the kids about how they were feeling right then and what types of things that have happened before made them feel angry or silly...or whatever...so it was a light, fun read, but also a good way to get more in depth discussion of moods, how they just happen sometimes and what types of activities/events make you feel certain ways...you know...like what makes you angry or sad...what makes you happy or what do you do when you just feeling silly or blue?I think Today I Feel Silly is best as a read aloud book...and the larger the group of kids you're reading to the more interesting the conversation after can get!I'd recommend this in a heart beat! We loved it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for boys and girls
This book teaches a wonderful lesson about moods and how they vary every day.You can tell its written by an actress, who likely has more dramatic moods than you and I, but the message is wonderful.I love reading this book to my six-month-old son.

4-0 out of 5 stars Today I Feel Silly and Other Moods That Make My Day
Joyful, confused, angry and happy are just some of the many moods that can make or break your day. Today I feel silly and other moods that make my dayby Jamie Lee Curtis is a hysterical story about a spunky little red head girl whose moods changes everyday with each flip of the page. The elaborate pictures change with each mood of the girl when she goes through her ups and downs. The Author does a brilliant job at adding detail to support how she is feeling and why she is feeling that way. Young and old would get a laugh out of this comical and entertaining book. I personally I love this book because it reminds me when I was little and my own random moods. Everyday you wake up new mood that changes you and the people around you in a good or bad way. After reading this book you might ask yourself, what's my mood today? ... Read more

Editorial Review

"There has obviously been some kind of mistake," writes Alexander T.Wolf from the pig penitentiary where he's doing time for his alleged crimes of 10 years ago. Here is the "real" story of the three little pigs whose houses are huffed and puffed to smithereens... from the wolf's perspective. This poor, much maligned wolf has gotten a bad rap. He just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, with a sneezy cold, innocently trying to borrow a cup of sugar to make his granny a cake. Is it his fault those ham dinners--rather, pigs--build such flimsy homes? Sheesh.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT
This is a wonderful, delightful and simply funny off take on the old three little pigs story. It is told by the wolf and the story is through his eyes. Now whether you choose to believe his story or not, is completely up to you.The wolf is able to tell a pretty convincing tale, but you just don't really know. This story could be pulled from the newspaper of any of our large city papers today. The author has a true wit about his writing that is appealing to bothyoung and old.The art work is great and fits quite well with the text.Recommend this one quite highly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Quality picture book
I am very picky about children's books.I like this one because it opens up my son's imagination to think about what is going on in the story (since it has no words). He is 5 1/2 and enjoys this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An unusual treat for the imagination.
We happened to find this little book in our school library. My preschool-aged son selected it solely based on the inviting bright red color of it's cover. We were surprized to find it to be a book of no words... only those we chose to give it.It is beautifully and creatively drawn.A treat for those who dream of adventure and are willing to find it in imagination.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sharp Looking Book
My daughter has loved Thomas since she was about a year old (she's 3 now) and this was a great present because A) She LOVES anything Thomas, B) She wants to read this book all the time and C) It seems to have sparked a love for books.
5-0 out of 5 stars great Thomas collection
My son is a large Thomas fan. he first knew Thomas just from the trains, then he saw the show. Since he loves to read I wanted to combine 2 of his favorite things. This book did just that. It's a nice hardcover edition with enough Thomas stories to keep anyone entertained for a long time. There are nice pictures and an attached bookmark for him to keep track of his place. Highly recommend

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Pleasant Surprise
My adorable 2-1/2 year old grandson just loves Thomas The Train. However, his Nana (me) doesn't have a clue.So not to be ignorant, I ordered this book and was thrilled to see the wonderful illustrations as well as finding it to be a "story collection" about all the different trains. My grandson actually named all the different trains (how he does this I do not know), and I could verify that he was correct by reading the stories. The book is kept at Nana's house and Braden looks forward to reading it every time he comes for a visit. I don't think anyone would be disappointed in this book.It would make a wonderful gift! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Aaaaaawww!
I got this book when I was 6 and I still like it! It is the touching story of little Lilly, who loves her teacher but hates him when he takes away her purple plastic purse and sunglasses. It is sooo cute and very fun to read. It is very true-to-life, unlike those other stupid books that think they're tapping into the minds of children. I highly recommend this book. I even have a kid-sized purple plastic purse and a Lilly stuffed animal! This is such a cute book. 5 stars and perfect for any age!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Kevin Henkes hit
We read two books to our daughter every night. With that in mind, we pay careful attention to the books we buy to read her. I love all of Kevin Henkes' books. They are both visually delightful and entertaining for both my daughter and I. He manages to be intelligent without being corny, and as I am reading I honestly feel like her vocabulary is being broadened. He never "dumbs down" his book with easy wording. I am also an English teacher and appreciate all aspects of his work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marvelous--another great Kevin Henkes book
I just started student teaching this semester and this was the first book I read to my third grade class. Some read it already, but w
