5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Funny.
It is wonderful espacially since it is intruducing the ten horrible with little tin knives and there chant and war cry and another good one is freddy the pilot and this series is wonderful and highly recomeneded for people of all ages.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not just a children's classic!
Freddy the Cowboy is one of the funniest books I've read! Freddy's adventures with Cal Flint, the picklefaced cowboy, and attempted riding will keep you in stitches. The farm animals each have their own personalities, some may remind you of a neighbor or brother. The rhymes aregreat, and you will love the Horrible Ten! Must read! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get Dressed, Dudley!
We got this book when my son was about 9 months old, he's now 18 months and has worn this book out completely. He absolutely LOVES Get Dressed, Dudley, so much so that he flips through the pages every night and gets excited to see Dudley change his clothes to match the seasons.Im now here to buy another copy of the book to replace the one that is covered in clear duct tape to hold it together.Im actually thinking about getting the rest of the Tiger Tales Dudley collection for him.We definetly recommend this book for toddlers, and we hope you like it as much as my son does.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK
It's a somewhat fun Q&A with a pig on how he will get dressed depending on the weather. It's probably worth the price but it could have easily been more educational if it had been expanded to include more clothing items, body parts, weather conditions and perhaps activities. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Recommended to all Beatrix Potter fans!
Poor old Aunt Pettitoes cannot afford to feed all eight of her piglet offspring, and so she sends seven of them out into the world. Pigling Bland is going to market, to find a job with a farmer when he gets lost and meets a strange old man. Keeping his wits about him, Pigling Bland succeeds in escaping from the old man, along with the beautiful young Pig-wig.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poor, rambling story
Pigling Bland isn't a very good story. It's time to admit that. The tale just sort of stops without finishing up as characters wander off in the final pages. Makes little sense and I can't imagine what could be learned from it. Low entertainment value, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good sense and peppermints
"'Bacon and eggs, bacon and eggs!' clucked a hen on a perch." Pigling Bland faces a wicked, dangerous world, but good sense, resourcefulness and peppermints... No, I won't spoil a classic 1913 Beatrix Potter story for you. To be read out loud in a quiet, old-fashioned voice by the fireside on a winter's evening, savouring the sonorous words and inimitable watercolour illustrations. There's even some love interest. Ideal for the 4-8 age group and older. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun Book
Good age group for this book is probably 4ish to 8ish.I have kids that are six and seven and they both get a kick out of the book.Makes a nice gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Louella Mae, made grandma a hit in twenty two states.
I am a grandmother of sixteen grandchildren, eight boys and eight girls ranging in age from newborn to ten years. I just completed a two month journey through twenty two states reading Louella May She Run Away to mygrandchildren, their parents and to their young friends. From the EastCoast, through the South, the Mid-West and across North Dakota, Montana,Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and home to California, this story was a hugesuccess. I watched young and old alike fall into the rythum of this taleand cry out the rhyming words as the pages turned, hoping they had said theright word. They found the illustrations to be eye catching and in harmonywith the search for Louella May. The story brought laughter and also ahappy surprise at the ending. The story has it's own spacial place in ourfamily and will join other favorites, such as Dr.Seuss books, The BernstienBears, Beatrix Potter's books or Charlotes Web and the Wizard of Oz.

5-0 out of 5 stars Storytime fun!
I have read this book aloud numerous times at toddler and preschool storytimes and it has been a hit each time. The text lends itself well to a loud southern accent and expansive gestures plus there is a delightful"surprise" ending for the kids.It doesn't disappoint! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC READ-ALOUD BOOK WITH GREAT ART
Margaret Wise Brown was such a talented author. This story is my 3yo daughter's current favorite. I like it because it shows that not everyone (or every pig) is perfect and that's just how Peter likes it. It's a fun book to read aloud and Dan Yaccarino's illustrations make it a colorful adventure. After finding this book, I have begun to explore even more of Brown's work beyond Goodnight Moon. She's a gem. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Is Little Pig, Biddle Pig simply too clean and pretty to stoop tomud-pool romps? After all, she is "Sweet as alfalfa / And grand as a queen."Conflicted by her desire to remain pink and glossy or to join those "wiggilywallowers" in the muck, lonely Little Pig grows more and more unhappy. Will shekeep her snout up in the air just to avoid the muddy swine, or can this regalpiglet get over herself and revel in the "glorious slop"?Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Little Biddle Book
The first book Little Bird Biddle Bird is the best of the series, but this one is cute.A little hard for my five year old to follow, alot of "why?" was asked, but the pictures are very bright as with the first book as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Fun!
Little Pig Biddle Pig is a very enjoyable book!Similar to the first in the series, "Little Bird, Biddle Bird", it has wonderful vibrant illustrations and tuneful language.Typical of David Kirk's style, this book is an eye catcher for children and particularly enjoyable for the reader! This book on its own is really a fun read, however, it is extremely similar to "Little Bird, Biddle Bird", I'm just not sure how many times you will want to read additional "Little Biddle" stories with other animals experiencing essentially the same story.I hope future books in this series vary a little more with the story line. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Clarence does it again!
In this installment, we find our western horse and city pig travelling back home to the city.Along the way, they meet an old dog with a passion for dancing. My students loved reading about Clarence in the first book and flipped over this selection.Really is a must for any collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Adventure Continues.....
When we last saw Clarence, the pig, and Smoky, the purple horse, they were about to leave the dude ranch and head back to the big city where Clarence lives. They've packed their bags and are ready to begin their long journey, over the mountains and across the desert."Clarence can hardly wait. But first, Smoky is going to show Clarence a great surprise.Clarence loves surprises."They travel, and picnic, they sleep under the stars in a tent, go fishing, nap, watch the clouds roll by, and even get to stay in a hotel."Clarence loves the hotel. He really loves room service.Smoky orders hay."But best of all, they meet a new and special friend along the way.Old Edgar, the dog, hums and dances. In fact, he is such an amazing and energetic dancer that Smoky warns Clarence, "You'll have to watch him to make sure he doesn't twirl away."And as the three friends travel on to see the great surprise, that's exactly what happens.....For those who loved Clarence Goes Out West And Meets A Purple Horse, Jean Ekman Adams is back with another Clarence and Smoky adventure that's sure to warm your heart and tickle your funny bone. Her engaging text, with its simple message of friendship, loyalty, and acceptance is filled with gentle humor and begs to be read aloud. But it's Ms Adam's marvelously bold and bright artwork, rich in witty western detail, that makes this picture book sparkle, and brings these endearing characters to life. With a satisfying, happily-ever-after ending to complete the story, Clarence And The Great Surprise is perfect for youngsters 3-7, and is a sweet little treasure of a book, you don't want to miss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clarence is a winner the second time around!
I am delighted that author/illustrator, Jean Ekman Adams, has returned Clarence to his devoted fans with a second book.Clarence stole our hearts with his first adventure, "Clarence Goes Out West and Meets a Purple Horse."Now he and Smokey are off on another adventure and they have taken a dancing doggie along with them. The same endearing illustrations are found throughout this second offering and "the great surprise"...well is a great surprise.Clarence and friends are gentle souls with silent lessons abounding throughout their stories and illustrations, all of which will delight readers of every age.I eagerly look forward to the next adventure. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Brooks, Fun and Insightful
This is the tenth book in the Freddy the Pig series, and it is classic Walter Brooks, fun and insightful. Two animal adventures are interwoven in this book. One is, of course, the start-up of the barnyard newspaper, and the other is a scrap metal drive. The scrap drive puts into perspective the time line for the book; the metal will be "shipped off to make guns and ships to help our fighting men win the war."The publication date was 1943.In the process, the young mind will learn that spinach is good for you, that only bad people throw stones at animals, and that the Constitution guarantees "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." [Actually, that was the Declaration of Independence, but let's forgive Brooks for this slight confusion.]We also learn that an editor must have clean windows, "so he knows what's going on in the outside world."One interesting thing I noticed in this book for the first time is that the animals always speak very educated English, whereas several of the human characters use bad English, as when one of the bad guys says "watch out he don't slip past you."And I smiled to learn that the Centerboro jail has a music room.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid Wartime Freddy Novel
This one has a reasonably tight plot and many amusing set pieces; we particularly enjoyed Jinx yowling for scrap metal and the business with the frying pan and the ant. Please read it to see what we are talking about; you will be pleased.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Pig Reporter
This delightful tale is set (and written) right in the midst of World War II.While somewhat irreverent, it makes effective use of many of the effects of the war on rural America. The animals at Bean Farm are patriotic creatures.Anxious to participate in the local scrap iron collection effort (and win Mr. Bean a box of cigars) the animals are determined to use their special qualifications and teamwork to collect the largets amount.Freddy, always the pig on the spot, writes up a report of the animals efforts (and a poem or so) and takes it to The Centerboro Guardian, where his friend Mr. Dimsey has always been willing to include an 'animal' news column.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Piggy doesn't seem to be cultivating the right skills!
Frank Remkiewicz's drawings comes from an artist who has loved pigs since childhood and been a long-time fan of Freddy the Pig: his fun drawings in Piggy And Dad Go Fishing hold a hint of Freddy with but a life all their own. From being unable to attach a happy worm to a hook to becoming too restless to catch a fish, Piggy doesn't seem to be cultivating the right skills! Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great books with rhythm, rhyme, and movement.
This book is an excellent use of shapes, music, rhyme, rhythm, and just fun! The pigs' bus has an accident and they end up making their gig by hitching a ride on an ice cream truck. My son loves the book. Having taught before I had children, I would have used this book in the classroom paired with the book, Twist with a Burger, Jitter with a Bug by Lowery.

5-0 out of 5 stars rocking review
This is a great book to use with students in music. You can talk about the song Blue Suede Shoes as well as all the instuments that the pigs play. The pigs are also easy to draw even for kindergarteners. We made promotion posters showing that the band was coming to town. The rhyme has a great beat and the words are easy enough for little ones to figure out. It's a hit in music class!

I didn't think my (young) 3-year-old would sit through this book. The text looked long, the art very detailed. But I was WRONG! This has been our nightly story for weeks and I confess: I'm not bored. It's the perfect touch--not very frightening and a reassuring story of self-confidence. Even my 2-year-old pops in for the occasional ghost or pig (no, he's not quite ready for the whole story although Curious George has kept him seated).
5-0 out of 5 stars A really wonderful book!
I bought this book for my daughter to celebrate Halloween. It is her favorite holiday so we read this book year round. The story is about a pig named John who is too scared to go trick or treating on Halloween with his friends.John stays back at the house as his friends go on without him. After they leave a real witch comes calling for some treats. When she sees that John only has candy to hand out she decides to teach hime how to make some real Halloween treats. They whip up such heavenly connoctions as pies, tarts, mousse, sundaes, and cookies. All of the witch's monster friends show up for a real Halloween party. Finally the witch tells John that they have to leave while it is still night out. When John's pig friends come back cold and tired they are amazed to find all of the treats that John has prepared. When John goes to bed he realizes he is no longer afraid of Halloween and he dreams of all of the new friends he has made. The illustrations in this book are great and the story is really sweet. My daughter loves this book and I really enjoy reading it to her. This book will really put you into a Halloween mood.
