5-0 out of 5 stars Great for 2 and 4 year olds!!!!!
My two boys ages 2 and 4 love this book. Their favorite line being "much better". They know exactly when to say it and crack up laughing everytime. My sister bought this book for my nephew and I just had to have it. It is a book that I can read over and over again without getting bored. If you are looking for a book that's interesting for two children at two different age spectrums, I would definitely try this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hoglarious!
Bed Hogs is awell-crafted rhyming story that flows like the drool out of a hog's mouth. I have added it to my collection of books to read aloud to groups of children. They laugh out loud everytime! The illustrations are amazing, and compliment the story to an extreme! Very well done...this is what parents are looking for when purchasing a children's book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very cute!
This was a very cute book which will have any child laughing as it is read to them.I received it as a gift when my baby was born, and even though he is too young to understand it now, I fell in love with it.The illustrations are fantastic, too! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone Hide!!
My daughter simply loves this book. She loves Wibbly and all the other characters, especially Big Pig, who for some reason she always smacks. I never get tired of reading it to her and she never gets tired of having it read to her, she loves it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loves lift the flaps!
My daughter loves this book because of the lift the flaps! She absolutely loves all lift the flap books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun for mother and child, just simply fantastic!
My kids, twins aged 18 months, scream "Wibbly Pig" everytime I try to sneak the book into the room. Their little faces light up. Indeed, "Wibbly Pig" was the among the first words spoken by both ofthem. Simply a marvelous treat for me and them, every time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bella gets ready for bed.
My two year old granddaughter is reminded of all the things to do before bedtime.... then she gets a story!Very popular book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where the Wild Pigs Are
When Cornelius' mother quizzes him on whether he's ready for bed, he answers honestly each time. Yes, Cornelius has fed the fish...chocolate chip cookies! Yes, Cornelius has put on his pajamas...and a pair of rollerskates and a scuba mask! Preschoolers and kindergardeners will laugh at Cornelius' silly antics. Adults will appreciate whimsy in illustrations: the fishes' shocked looks, the titles on Cornelius' books (We, we, we all the way home, Where the Wild Pigs Are, and If you Give a Mouse a Pig just to name a few). Great for encouraging dialogue during a one-on-one read-aloud session.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is my son's favorite.
My son enjoys reading since he was about 13 month old. He is now almost 21 month, and have more than 20 books. This is still one of his favorite ones. The best reward for my husband and me is that every time we turn to the page the little piggy hugs his mother, we get a bug from our son too. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Cute concept, disappointing product...
Overall I thought this book was just ok. My 2 year old has flipped through it a few times. He likes to touch the front cover which has a plush Kipper "belly". However I was very disappointed to find that the featured page, with the "sticky paws" had already been previously worn out and grimed up! So I couldn't say whether the "stickiness" lived up to the title. It appears that Amazon sent me a used copy and I was not at all happy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just OK
As a reading teacher for 11 years I found this book to be cute but just OK overall. The writing is weak and the touch and feel aspect is just average.I bought this book for my daughter at age 1, and she thought it was OK.It never became one she requested. She is crazy about dogs but even that aspect couldn't save this book's weak story line. She prefers other touch and feel books we have as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!
Kipper's books are excellent, and this one is no exception. It is really cute and my baby has a lot of fun with touching the various creatures and things. The book is full of touch and feel entertainment and nice colorful drawings. It's on par with the Touch and Feel series (Baby Animals, Wild Animals, Farm, etc.) Highly recommended along with all the Kipper books. You simply can not beat a cute puppy for a baby or toddler! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Tales of Brave uPiggysees
Homer's got nothing on these seafaring swine, and I say that with all affection.David McPhail tells a tale of mythic proportion in another one of his popular pig books.Creative rhymes, chaotic scenes, and bright, imaginative illustrations make this one wild and rebellious adventure. Here, a young yuppie-type leaves for an ocean excursion, his blonde hair slicked back, and a tropical shirt covering his pale skin. He holds two suitcases, one of which has a "ROAM" travel decal.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great fun to read and look at
When you're a parent and you read 3 or 4 books before bedtime, finding books which are fun to read is a priority (especially when you read the same book over and over again.)This is one that my son and I bothenjoy--about a man who goes on a cruise and finds that he's sharing hiscabin with a group of mischievous and misbehaving pigs.Though they get ineveryone's way, he comes to love them.Great fun to read (it's written inverse) and fun illustrations as well.

I have read these books, the entire series, all 18 or so of them, once every 3-4 years for the last 2 decades, and I love them all! Having them republished is a great boon to the world! This one in particular is just vintage Freddy, it doesn't strand out for any particular reason, just excellent like the rest.

4-0 out of 5 stars well written but in sufficiently hyper-pluralistic
As Freddy navigates his ways through the labryinth of agencies in Washington DC, the reader delights in the foibles of the bureaucracy - the most obvious one being the cross purposes with which regulatory agencies act, particularly in their briefings to oversite committees (which are treated insufficiently, for my tastes). The major flaw, however, is Freddy's view (and I'm not sure that Freddy is not merely a mouthpiece for the author) that there is a unitary explanation for government inefficiency : namely, corporate influence.Hyper pluralism (the theory that AMerican government offers so many entry points to so many different interest groups that any attempt to influence policy boy one interest group can inevitably be negated by a different group using a different policy making institution - a reality exacerbated by our federalist system!) is dealt with only in passing - when Freddy passes a hyper pluralist who mutters "I need a drink"..a clear case of bias on Freddy's (and maybe the author's) part.If I wanted this type of Marxist tripe, I'd go to a university (a state funded one mind you)...
5-0 out of 5 stars Brooks Captures the Essence of Politics
When the Beans leave for an extended trip to Europe, it's up to the animals to run the farm themselves. They start up The First Animal Bank of Centerboro, teaching themselves what banks are all about in the process. Then they decide to start up the First Animal Republic, and to elect a president.Interestingly one of the candidates is an outsider, blown in by an ill wind.Of all the animals Brooks might have chosen for this role, it's a woodpecker! And from Washington DC, no less!Have to love it.This woodpecker says he knows better than the locals what's good for them, and starts using dirty tricks to win the election. The local candidate is Mrs. Wiggins, the cow.Our favorite pig, Freddy, is her campaign manager, and there is so much trickery on both sides that we don't know whether to laugh or cry.As usual, there are lots of lessons for the careful reader to learn. These animals are so very like us.

3-0 out of 5 stars Freddy Goes Into Politics
This is one of the earlier Freddy adventures, before Brooks had really hit his stride as a writer. In this book, the barnyard organizes an election and a woodpecker, who is a smooth talker, winds up almost controlling the Bean farm.As usual, there are morals aplenty without being preached at the reader, but, given the 1930s political background of this book (Huey Long and some other major players were obviously in Brooks' mind as he wrote this) I suspect adults will like it more than the kids, although my own children enjoyed it.From another author, this would've gotten at least four stars, but Brooks raises the standard. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good.
Wonerful, Triumph, for all ages.
4-0 out of 5 stars "I've got good brains, but they aren't the kind that think easily."
The second in the utterly charming "Freddy the Pig" series, "Freddy the Detective" chronicles the adventures of Freddy and his barnyard friends as they delve deep into the world of clues, suspects and the criminal world. In the great tradition of Sherlock Holmes, there is a disguise involved.
5-0 out of 5 stars Some pig
I run a bookgroup for homeschoolers and have the very great pleasure of introducing this bunch of alternative education kiddies to some of the great classics in children's literature. It can be a very rewarding experience.Once in a while, however, the kids teach me about books that I've never heard of. One of the children I organize has been obsessed with the "Freddy" books for years.Occasionally he would ask me if I had read them or he'd promote them to the group. In my initial ignorance, I assumed that he was referring to the Freddy the Hamster books by Dietlof Reiche. Those books are very good but the kid was actually referring to the classic Freddy the Pig series dating back to the 1930s.Recently these books have been earning themselves an entirely new audience and children everywhere are engulfed in a kind of newfangled Freddy fever.I picked up "Freddy the Detective" (not realizing that "Freddy In Florida" is actually the first book in the series) to give the books a look-see.I did this with a kind of snide attitude that went something along the lines of, "well I'm sure these books have aged poorly over the years and that the only reason kids are reading them because their parents made them".Oh how wrong a children's librarian can be.The Freddy books are marvelous.Author Walter R. Brooks is marvelous. In fact, "Freddy the Detective" is so wry, well-written, and delightful that I am truly shocked that more people are not aware of this series.Consider me a convert of the pig.One who will be singing his praises to the masses every chance I get.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Summer Read for your Oliver and Amanda Fan
I don't understand the bad reviews here!My 4-year-old daughter LOVES the Amanda Pig books. They are relevant to her real life experiences so she can relate to all of the stories.Best of all, I even enjoy reading them! The language is easy to understand, but does offer some new ideas/vocabulary.Try this series for your preschooler!

1-0 out of 5 stars Bland bland bland... and sexist too
In Amanda Pig and the Really Hot Day, author Jean VanLeeuwer describes a very hot day in the life of Amanda Pig and her family through four simple but linked tales. The text is easy to understand, making this book ideal for younger readers, but is extremely generic, showing nothing special, realistic, or particularly interesting about the Pig family.
3-0 out of 5 stars "Even my hair ribbons are hot"
Poor Amanda Pig just can't cool off. Readers spend "a really hot" day with Amanda. A visit to the garden and being squirted with the hose helps. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for early readers!
I got this book at our library for my 5 year old who was just beginning to read.I was looking for something that actually had a story that would compell hime to read.Anyway, I handed it to him in the car and he read it cover to cover on our way home. There were maybe two words that he had to have help with.He thought it was funny that the big pig did things the hard way and the little pig used his intellect to make things easier. It really gave him confidence. He has really enjoyed reading it to everybody he can! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
I like these books.I read them to my preschoolers and through the use of the pictures they're building their vocabulary and they get excited, because they can help "read" the story. The stories are cute too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Special
It's hard to find good kids' books, especially for our 2-year old. But this is just right - nicely illustrated, good-hearted, with pictures full of things our guy can point to and name.
