Entrancing for children AND adults-A great gift idea too!
Piggins is one of those rare gems: A book interesting and simple enough for very young children to enjoy (ages 3-4), with more subtlety in the text and especially in the exquisitely detailed and humorous illustrations. The adult will also enjoy the story for the beauty of the illustrations, the tongue in cheek wit, andthe delight of reading and rereading and re-examining the illustrations to catch the clues to the "who was the thief?" mystery within the story. A Fun Mystery for Early Readers
My 4 year old daughter really enjoys the three mysteries written by Jane Yolen and illustrated by Jane Dyer in the Piggins series, but "Piggins" is her most favorite.I often catch her flipping through the pages by herself in a quiet corner telling the story to herself.Dyer's illustrations are colorful and detailed.There are many things for a small child to look at.Yolen's story is as usual, a great read and keeps my daughter's attention the whole story (well, expect for when she starts asking questions!)Thank goodness the book came out in paperback, as the book is constantly in circulation at our local library.We now have all three Piggins Stories in our bookcase!

A good book to read aloud

Enriching, Guatemalan story
Being from Guatemala, I am always looking for literature for my young child.This book has enriched our cultural heritage, not only by the story but with the illustrations.Great book for beginner reader, especially to read on Nov. 1, Dia de Todos los Santos.

Great teaching tool for synthesis
Hard to find books that teach children synthesis, but My Pig Amarillo is one you can use.The ending is not the usual happy ending, and therefore, it will cause the class to think a bit.I was very pleased with the lesson plan I came up using this book to teach synthesis, a tough subject for the 5th grade.

One of my favorite Freddys!
There is a lot of baffling clues in this story and Freddy doesn't know what to make of them.Worst of all, Mr. Bean and all of the other animals, except for Jinx the cat, believe that Freddy is a thief!Freddy must find out the truth to save his name.He is determined and proclaims that he would leave the farm and not come back until he has caught the real thief and nailed its hide to the barn!

This is a cool funny book!!
This book is so cool, i recommend this book for readers who enjoy farm life and animals who lives on the farm, If I would rate this book on a 5-point scale, I would say it would be a 4..because the pictures could have been colourful instead of black and white, but overall I liked this book. Bye!

Loved it!
This is an excellent book by an excellent author.I've never been disappointed in one of his books and this is one of his best!I wish it could have been longer or that there were a sequel to it.The main characters are Farmer Tubbs and a lot of animals that live on his farm.I recomment this book for anyone who likes pigs, animals, or humorous stories.It's probably more of a child's book, but I think everyone would enjoy it.

Extraordinary!!
This book is very exciting I learned about how ACE the pig can communicate with his owner. He has alot of adventures. I would reccommend thisbook to any age I think it would brighten anyone`s day to hear about a big fat pig that made me laugh. This is a wonderful book!
Clarence really has it all. He's a "wee" pig with a nice apartment in the city. And he is fortunate enough to take a vacation. He's excitedly boarding a bus for a ranch out west. Clarence is even excited about the bus ride.
Darling book about friendship!
One of our teaching assistants came to me and begged for this title to be added to the library collection.After checking the book out online, I ordered it.To my delight, it arrived in my book order, and I immediately read it to my 2nd graders in library.We all fell in love with Clarence and Smoky.Both characters are well written and delighfully drawn.The simplistic storyline can easily be read by beginning readers.This is a must for every personal collection!

My 4 year old laughs out loud every time!
This book is just silly & fun.

The other side of the 3 little pigs!
Not only do we see a new side of a favorite tale, we also get to meet the illustrator through his humourous actions throughout the book.If you think they pigs had problems with just the wolf, wait and see what happens when a bumbling illustrator gets involved!

One of our favorites
My daughter loves this book and asks for it again and again.She loves all the little bugs illustrated with incredibly clever sewing techniques.I love looking at the illustrations and marvelling at the things one can do with pinking shears and rick-rack.

Our Principal Promised to Kiss a Pig
I thought this book was precious. I loved the anticipation Hamlet felt waiting to see if the students reached their goal. I loved how the pig fell in love with the principal after the kiss. It was cute as could be, and I know that students will enjoy reading it.

Robber barons writing children's books?
I found this book to be appallingly outdated.The Mellopsdrill for oil in the forest while the mom cheerfully "practicesout door cooking" and then all must flee when a passing motorist carelessly sets a forest fire. This book, written in 1958 when Standard Oil was king and women were third class citizens, is 1950s pulp and remains in the past--not on any child's bookshelf.Although it could serve as a good example of how far society has come in understanding and environmental awareness.
