This book is first-rate in entertaining children 3-8. Children will enjoyfollowing the story of Bert & Ethel, who raise some very intelligentpigs and decide it's time to sell them at the market in the morning. Thepigs overhear this, and the trouble--or the fun--begins. The smart pigsescape, using clever disguises borrowed from local townspeople, and aremissing untill the end of the story.5-0 out of 5 stars Rates five OINKS!Delightful!
Get ready to be taken for a hilarious ride by a passel of precocious pigs!Farmers Bert and Ethel decide to take a break from growing turnips to try their hand at pigs. It's time to load up their lard and take them to market, but these savvy swine have other ideas. Our feckless farmers are unaware that their cargo has disappeared until it's too late, but you won't be if you pay attention to the pictures. Christelow combines unassuming text with not-so-unassuming illustrations in this porcine plot that is sure to tickle your spareribs and convince you that these pigs are smarter than your average root vegetable. 5-0 out of 5 stars wow
The book, Pigs Might Fly was an awsome book. The book showed a lot of perserverence, curiosity, pride, and initiative. My favorite part is when Daggie, the pig, tries to fly, he uncovers a new talent of his.In this book Daggie is a good, kind-hearted pig.He shows a lot of perserverence, curage, initiative, and curiousity. I think you should read this book if you like fun and adventure.

5-0 out of 5 stars SUCH a good book!
This was my *favorite* book growing up, and I still read it once in a while for kicks. It has a little bit of everything - drama, humor, action, and some good ol' fashioned moral lessons. Very entertaining for kids and their parents - definitely a must!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Toot & Puddle Hit
My 4 year old daughter and I are big pig fans, and Toot & Puddle are among our favorites. This story is especially endearing. In it we are introduced to another sweet pig, Opal, who is Puddle's cousin. I enjoy this book because it reads more smoothly than some of the other Toot and Puddle books which rely on the charming pictures to carry the story. It is also a lovely story of friends working together to help out each other when Opal loses her first tooth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming Opal by Holly Hobbie
I found Charming Opal in a pile of recently published children's books at my favorite bookstore. It both caught my eye and stole my heart.A light hearted story of youthful "piglet" innocence and joyful discovery, Opal's protected world comes close to shattering. Her treasured loose tooth finally falls out, but is nowhere to be found.Without a tooth to place under her pillow, the Tooth Fairy would not come.Cousin Puddle and Toot do their best to reassure her that everything will be all right. 5-0 out of 5 stars Is it possible to top yourself?
Toot & Puddle are fantastic stories about two adorable pigs that highlight the differences in people and how they can get along, matched with equally rewarding illustrations resulting in perfect combinations. This time around add cousin Opal into the mix and I was reduced to a withering mass. This journey about a first loose tooth has got to be one of the best...if not the best...of the series. The expressions and actions come through loud and clear and the journey is one acted out everyday. And, well Opal is positively Charming!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Freddy makin' Bacon... and really hamin' it up!!!!
Freddy the Pig- detective, newspaper editor, poet, friend, traveler, and bank president and now magician- stars in this book about him and his friends trying to outwit an evil magician who tries to out-wit Freddy the witty, Jinx the sarcastic, Mrs. Wiggins the lovable, and all of all of their friends! This is a mistake, because Freddy and friends are much smarter, and, with some amazingly clever tricks, go about getting the money back that the evil magician stole from them. Freddy also tries to embarras the magician to get back at him. Walter Brooks creates a wonderful world of talking animals and adventures in the Freddy books, and Freddy and friends lovers will not be dissapointed by Freddy the Magician!

This book is good for 1-3 graders. This story is about a pig moving into an apartment building. All the neighbors thought he would be sloppy.Would their expectations be correct?Read to find out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute!

5-0 out of 5 stars Near the Top of Piggy Lit!
A farm family driving their Model T over a single "rud" (at first I thought this was a convenient gimmick, but it's the Maine pronunciation of "rud") is blocked, successively, by groups of pigs, hens, sheep, and bulls.Similarly, each member of the family vacates the Ford, shouting and cajoling to no avail.John Schoenherr's illustrations capture the essence of each animal, and he varies the amount of white space to show the growing people/animal menagerie in the middle of the rud.His compositions, expressive faces, and long-limbed characters recall another favorite illustrator, the great Patricia Polacco.
5-0 out of 5 stars All Time Favorite
I LOVE reading this book to my kids, and they love it, too. It's not too long, great illustrations, and I swear I know that grandma. The family is off to town for the day but the farm animals are in the road. One by one, the whole family tries to get them out of the way. Finally granny says, "Shoowee, up to me!" and gets the job done by calling out "Time for sup!"She gets covered in mud by the stampeding animals, but she's off to town anyway.Must be read enthusiastically.

5-0 out of 5 stars A new reason to eat fudge - and be courageous, too!!!
This book should still be in print! The Fourth Little Pig (who is a GIRL, by the way) helps the other three pigs see that fear can be overcome and there will be wonderful rewards in store - including FUDGE. My [...] granddaughter had the courage to go outside where she had been stung by a wasp after reading this book. And all of my granddaughters got to try fudge! - something their parents had "neglected" to introduce to their lives!A great book because you can put the lessons it teaches to use in your child's life immediately.Again, it should still be in print.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great classic
This is a great classic book.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Boys' Favorite
Wonderful book contrasting the behaviors of two "boys".The parents even have rules which are actually enforced!Imagine that, a book that in today's world shows parents with a backbone and who love their kids enough to say "no"!!All this with Richard Scarry's wonderful illustrations. We bought extra copies to give to friends with young ones. Our boys love it as we read it to them.A wonderful way to reinforce the long-forgotten idea of "responsibility" in our children.

1-0 out of 5 stars A very negative book
I was considering buying this book because my son loves Richard Scarry and I thought it might be a cute way to reinforce manners.Fortunately, I found a copy of the book at his play group and was able to read it first.Pig Wont is shown bare-bottomed getting a spanking from his father for not listening, is called a "Bad Pig!" for not following directions, and is treated in a very unsympathetic way. This kind of stern, un-understanding way of disciplining a child is unappealing to me and (I believe) unhelpful for the child. The book came across as very negative to me; instead of focusing on why a child would WANT to behave, it focuses on the bad things that will happen to him if he doesn't.That's not the message I want to send to my child. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What a great little book!
I first checked out this book from the library and my 2 yo son loved it. It's simple but very sweet. There are two characters and one is telling the other how special they are to each other. It's easy and fun to read. This would also be a great gift to a special loved one or friend. It's like a big hallmark card. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A superbly illustrated, rollicking picturebook story.
When Elwood, a young pig, finds an old broom leaning against a tree trunk he takes it to sweep his front step. What he doesn't realize it that thebroom is the property of a witch who will do everything in her power to getit back. To Elwood's surprise and dismay, he finds that he can fly throughthe air on that old broom. Elwood wants to get rid of the broom as badly asthe witch wants it back! Elwood And The Witch is a rollicking story ofenchantment by Nicholas Heller which is superbly illustrated by Jos. A.Smith, and one that will hold young readers (ages 5 and up) total attentionfrom first page to last! Also highly recommended are two earlierpicturebooks by Nicholas Heller and Jos. Smith: Goblins In Green, andOgres! Ogres! Ogres!: A Feasting Frenzy From A To Z. ... Read more
