Editorial Review

"She was homeschooling gone amok." "She was an alien." "Her parents werecircus acrobats." These are only a few of the theories concocted to explainStargirl Caraway, a new 10th grader at Arizona's Mica Area High School who wearspioneer dresses and kimonos to school, strums a ukulele in the cafeteria, laughswhen there are no jokes, and dances when there is no music. The whole school, not exactly a"hotbed of nonconformity," is stunned by her, including our 16-year-old narratorLeo Borlock: "She was elusive. She was today. She was tomorrow. She was thefaintest scent of a cactus flower, the flitting shadow of an elf owl."Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Further frothy unrealism from Cabot, dumbed down for our age group.
Meg Cabot's books seem to be getting shorter and shorter timespans. HOW TO BE POPULAR is spent over the course of a week.
4-0 out of 5 stars Another great teen lit
Meg Cabot does it again. She somehow wrote another great teen lit book that all teen girls will relate to. This isnt only entertaining, but there's a moral to the story too. Being popular doesnt mean being happy, which the main character Steph Landry figures out after reading an old book about how to become popular.
5-0 out of 5 stars How to be Popular
I loved this book. Steph , because of a Big Red Super Big Gulp incident, will forever be unpopular. Until she finds The Book. The one book that will change her from unpopular to popular instantly, but will leave her friends Jason and Becca completely in the dark as to why she WANTS to be popular. And soon she realizes that being popular isn't as good as it sounds.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read and Exciting, if Odd,Illustrations!!
My almost 4 year old and my 2.5 year old kids love this book. They've had it for about 6 months now and it's frequently in the line up for bedtime stories.I wondered about the illustrations but they think they're hilarious, especially when the Dr. is checking Camilla out and she's sticking out her tongue which is also striped. If you're concerned about how your kids will react to the illustrations maybe this would be a good one to try from the library first.
1-0 out of 5 stars Might be scary for younger children
Here on Amazon it says the age range for this book is 4-8 but I would strongly reconsider giving this book to a four year old. They read this book in my daughter's preschool, and she cried for an hour at home because she was so scared. She is almost five. The illustrations are very graphic, and looked a little creepy.I'm sure the overall message is good, and apparently other kids love it, but we won't be buying this one in our house!

5-0 out of 5 stars Masami Tsuda's Most Intense Volume Yet
I thought that if Tsuda ventured off the Arima/Miyazawa storyline that the manga might not be as entertaining. How wrong I was!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Marked Departure for TP Translations
Volume 11 of "Kare Kano" primarily deals with Tsubasa and her new step brother Kazuma. She calls him "Kazuma-chan" and they go to the same high school as Arima and Yukino. However, the two of them are getting along so well that one would think they were the newly weds rather than his mother and her father. Kazuma finds himself falling in love with Tsubasa, something he knows shouldn't happen. She finds herself in love with him as well. However, the call of music is strong and Kazuma must decide which he loves more -- Tsubasa or life with his band.
4-0 out of 5 stars a whole volume dedicated to Kazuma and Tsubasa
this volume of Kare Kano branches off from the Arima/Yukino storyline to explore Kazuma and Tsubasa, who are now step-brother and step-sister living in the same apartment. Kazuma's past is narrated, we get to know his bandmates better, and the rest of the cast pops by, briefly, to check out one of their concerts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, Funny and Interesting
The book Red Post is an interesting and funny book. The book is about this kid that was playing wall ball and the ball went over the line. Then the kid he was playing against caught it but he said that it didn't go over the line. Then another kid said it went over the line. Then the kid that thought it went over the line, told Marvin to shut up because you were not watching, you were over there picking your nose. After that every body started to laugh. He said that he was not picking his nose and they all kept on laughing at him. The next day he figured out something and at school he kept on asking every body if they heard about what happened yesterday and he told every body that he didn't pick his nose, everybody kept laughing at him because he kept on reminding them. Then his own friends would not play with him any more. 5-0 out of 5 stars Adoptabook.Info Review
Louis Sachar, possessing tremendous range as a children1s lit master, bring us the Marvin Redpost series---smartly designed for the mid-second grade reader. The second in a now lengthy series, Sachar has poor Marvin---a likable rolly-polly sort of lead---embroiled in controversy. When a close call in a Wallball game leads to verbal sparring, a yard bully accuses Marvin of committing that most grievous of all elementary school sinspicking your nose. Naturally, such an accusation makes for wildfire gossip around school and soon it seems the entire world (even Marvin1s teacher) seems to believe a most disgusting truth about our hero. Marvin1s solution for his way out of this mess is a brilliant stroke of psychology (and comic writing) and serves to illustrate some basic truths about being human. Not splashing on the same sort of wackiness as in his Wayside School pallet, Sachar offers up an easy ironic touch in the Marvin Redpost series.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Babymouse Rules
I am a 4th Grader and I liked the part where Babymouse's locker attacked her and the Squid spit her out. This book was real good because it had funny pictures and the words were funny.I have never read a book like this before.I also like her stories because they have drama and action.I think only girls would like book becuse the main character is a girl and the book has lots of pink in it.My Mom also read the book and it made her laugh. One thing about Babymouse, she loves cupcakes like me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Babymouse: Queen of the World!
This is the first book in the Babymouse series. It is a comic book, and everything is black, white, and pink. Babymouse is a mouse, and she is in middle school. (The next part of my review tells what hapoens in the book, so if you haven't read it yet you might want to skip this review.)
5-0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Pick
What Dav Pilkey has given boys with Captain Underpants, Jennifer & Matthew Holm have given girls with a character that they will identify with. Just as Captain Underpants has great crossover appeal with boys and girls, so will Babymouse.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Manga, but More Domesticated
In volumes 11-13 of "Kare Kano", Chrissy Schilling apparently did additional translation work and included all of the Japanese honorifics to "Kare Kano".For a title as deeply rooted in Japanese culture as "Kare Kano" is, I feel the honorifics need to be left in because it shows how the various characters relate to each other. As such, those volumes were much richer to me as a reader who enjoys learning more about Japanese culture and ways of thinking.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Real Arima?

5-0 out of 5 stars Androids have feelings too
The Culture Festival is here and Aya's Steel Snow is underway.Although there is lots of humor in the series, this volume is mostly serious and even the play's story is pretty interesting. I've noticed how well Masami Tsuda expresses her characters through simple facial looks. Did anyone feel a little uneasy with Arima's look towards the end?It just makes me yearn that much more for volume 10.Also, Tonami makes a big decision despite the painful consequence it may hold for him.And Tsubasa is so *kawaii* as Antique!5-0 out of 5 stars Aya's play and the cultural festival!
This installment of Kare Kano has some cute side stories, but the main focus is Aya's play, Steel Snow. All three of the actresses (including Yukino, Tsubasa, and Maho) perform to their best ability a play that hits close to home for Arima.I think Masami Tsuda did a marvelous job tranferring a play into a manga form. But the end of the book is the most important of all; it ends the "Yukino arc" as Tsuda puts it and starts the arc of Arima.A must read for all Kare Kano fans! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Who Woulda Thought...
Who woulda thought that a geek that travels everywhere on his bike with a little strap thingy to hold his pants up so they wouldn't get caught in the chain would be dating a cross country runner.
3-0 out of 5 stars 2.5 stars.
Natalie Page is one of the uncool set. She is not the prettiest, most popular, or smartest girl in school. She's not trendy or hip, but she is fast. Track gives her life substance and meaning, and the threat of losing it because she just can't get geometry is apalling. Forced to be tutored by a nerd, Matt, she feels even less cool. She tries to pass the geek off as her boyfriend, but he has a girlfriend already and one of the cool guys is acting interested in Natalie. Then, her verbal sparring with Matt turns into something sweeter and more special, and Natalie wants her lie to be true.
5-0 out of 5 stars Natalie Is On A Roll....
All the boys love Natalie Page...as a buddy, that is. After all, she sure can run fast, and now that she's begun her Sophomore year at Mapleville High, she's proving her athleticism, by making the Varsity Cross-Country Team. Now all she needs is a boyfriend. Someone cute, and strong. Someone like Zach Fulton, the captain of the boys cross-country team. But the only way to get hunky Zach's attention, is by proving herself on the field. Soon, Zach is so into Natalie, and her running skills, that he's giving her rides home from school and practice. Natalie couldn't be happier. No more sitting around with her closest pals on Saturday nights as they make-out with their boyfriends. Nope, not for Natalie. Now she's going to have a guy of her own. Then tragedy strikes. Natalie begins failing Geometry, and has to get a tutor. Matt is a smart guy who thinks that sports are dumb. The only prob? He's totally cute. And now that she's enlisted Matt's help in pretending to be her boyfriend, in an attempt to make Zach jealous, she's contemplating why she even likes Zach in the first place. If Natalie had known how complicated getting a guy was going to be, she would have stayed single.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not great
I first picked up Kare Kano with high hopes for it, as the summary of the first book made it sound like an interesting read. While reading the first volume of Kare Kano, I found it to be a decent book, despite the fact that some areas in the story were a little difficult to follow right away. However, as I began reading the next several volumes, my interest began dying out.
4-0 out of 5 stars Like everything, it get's better with age.
When I first picked this up, I had high hopes.I wanted a good serious but fun romantic series instead of the goofy romance like Love Hina or Ah! My Goddess.A series where the characters aren't nerovus to kiss eachother or to show thier affection. So I read the first book and I thought - this is kinda girly (myself being a guy). But I loved it.I fell in love with each character and by each passing volume I bought; the maturity of the characters progressed as well as with the art style, storyline, and the manga-ka herself.
5-0 out of 5 stars Such a great Manga!
I am kind of new to Manga and I really enjoyed kare kano. I cannot wait to buy volume 2! It is mostly about a girl who tried to act perfect because she wanted people to praise her, and she wanted to be #1. Then a boy named Arima comes along and he's really good looking, smart, and popular. Yukino becomes jealous and wants revenge. 5-0 out of 5 stars Loving
Soichiro comes back from hsi trip and he and Yukino's relationship grows a lot. Soichiro kisses Yukino while she's on a bench. Yukino kisses Soichiro when he runs off. Yukino and Soichiro kiss together after Soichiro is worried abotu his family. Yukino comes to Soichiro's house and they kiss together and go in bed together. This book is very romantic! I read all the volumes in order and this one was one of my favorite.

4-0 out of 5 stars satisfying reunion
At the beginning of this book is the conclusion of how Miyazawa's parents got together. After this sweet story, it's back to our main characters. Finally, Soichiro comes back from his tournament, and he and Miyazawa are reunited. She notices how much he has matured---he's gotten taller, more serious (if that's possible), and even more mysterious than ever. He's noticed his feelings have changed too...ah why do boys have to grow up.He's no little kid anymore...but neither is she.O well. It's a fun and romantic read, but be warned it's not for kids anymore; for this reasion I gave it four stars, because I liked it better when there was the simple, sweet romance and not hot burning passion...:) ... Editorial Review

Fat, clumsy Simon Glass is a textbook geek, and all three of Rob'sposse hates him, each for his own reasons. But Rob is driven by the need toprove his power, and so he decrees that they will take on the seeminglyimpossible task of making Simon popular. They take him shopping for a betterlook, get his hair styled, teach him how to behave. Rob extracts painfulsacrifices and uneasy moral compromises to achieve the goal, but each of hisfollowers has a hidden empty place and a related secret that holds them inbondage to his manipulations. Soon Simon is on his reluctant way to becomingClass Favorite, but then he begins to show a dark, cruel side, and an ability todo what the others can't--defy Rob. The complex interlocking motivations ofthese five move the story inexorably to a startling bloody catharsis. Read more

This book is about bullies that pick on this boy that i a nerd. They push him around, and push his books out of his hands. They realize that they shoild be nice and help the boy, they buy him a new wardrobe, they get his hair cut, they get him contacs. The boys all go to a school dance, and all of the girls are all over the befor geek. Everyone loves this boy now.
5-0 out of 5 stars I am a junior, the book is spectacular for any age.
Shattering Glass by Gail Giles was the most riveting, suspenseful, and relatable book I have ever read. This book captured my mind time and time again, taking me through the troubled experiences of such a troubled boy. Every aspect of this book reflects things that go on daily in my school environment.
4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good but Disturbing
My formula to avoiding "reader's block" is to switch from one genre to another. So if ive just read a heavy loaded drama/history sort of novel, I shift to a light read. This one looked like it (my definition of light is not fluffy)

4-0 out of 5 stars Kare Kano takes a dark turn
Don't let the happy-go-lucky cover fool you: volume 16 is the darkest chapter yet in the lives of Yukino and Arima.
5-0 out of 5 stars Treading along the dark path
Kare Kano keeps on surprising me. The Arima storyline is crazy as more is revealed of his past. This probably is Masami Tsuda's darkest manga since it takes a bolder, more serious turn.Miyazawa's mettle is tested with a challenge that she may be unable to overcome. Even Asapin is key in this volume.I really like how the characters have changed since volume 1.This one is a non-stop read and Vol 16 seems so far away...patience is key!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Yawn
This book was boring. I didn't really care about the blossoming romance between tonami and tsubaki. When I read volume 7, I thought that this was going to be the book with the cultural festival in it, but nooooooooooo. This book is just filled with boring conversations. Whatever happened to Yukino's looks? She was SOOOO pretty in the first book, but the artist seems to have made pictures of her seem so plain now. By the way, the short story in the back of the book, it was S(...) lame. It's just about this timid little girl and this giant stupid guy who loves the girl, stalks her, teases her, and is just (...)the next book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Where Episode 26 left off...
Kare Kano, my guilty pleasure on those down days.Like so many other fans of this anime, I was stunned at the abrupt end and was anxious to find out what happens with the student's culture festival as Miyazawa and the gang get ready.Plus, look for more on Tonami and Sakura's unexpected situation and I love how things are between Tonami and Arima whose dark past continues to linger. This manga just never fails to keep a smile on your face and the continuity and spirit from the anime is still present in Masami Tsuda's work.4-0 out of 5 stars Continuing the story ...
If you watched the Kare Kano anime and were left hanging by the abrupt and inconclusive ending, here is where you need to begin to resume the story. The group is still in preparations for the play they are going give.Tonami's trying to patch his friendship with Arimi. Finally, the part I like, things between Tonami and Sakura get juicier and more complicated. If you liked the anime, you'll like the manga, so just do yourself a favor and buy it (and the next ones in the series too).Otherwise, you'll always be wondering what happens.(Note that I have not read the previous volumes of the manga.)Also, there is a short novella at the end of the manga that takes up nearlya third of the book. That story has nothing to do with Kare Kano, but is still an interesting shoujo story in itself. ...
