Schwartz has done it again!
If I could travel back in time 30 years and have a library of David Schwartz books, I'd be one happy kid! My kids love his work, and so do I!
EXCELLENT PEAK AT SCIENCE
An excellent peak at science for both children and adults. Although rather simplistic, it does a good job explaining basic science concepts. I specially liked the parts on T for Think, where the author explains how scientists use the Scientific Method as a tool for testing observations, making inferences and weed out erroneous beliefs; and O for Occam's Razor, again as of useful tool for reasoning. I sure hope there is a sequel. Read more

Great Expectations Met!
Ihad previously looked at First Language Lessons for the Well-Trained Mind and English for the Thoughtful Child.I found both titles lacking.I am very pleased with Primary Language Lessons!It has exceeded my expectations!It's a complete language/grammar book for grades 2/3.I would rate this my top recommendation for early elementary grammar/language.

A Gentle Introduction to Grammar For First and Second Grade
I bought this book because I had heard such wonderful reviews from the homeschooling community.When I received it, I was not disappointed.The lessons are thorough and my daughter enjoys doing them!The author uses picture and nature study as well as classic poetry and prose to teach the basics of grammar.There is no teacher preparation time required, and no complicated teacher's manual to follow.This gentle grammar introduction is a joy to use for student and teacher alike.There are two years of engaging lessons for the beginning grammar student, so it's a great buy!You'll love this one.

Extensive practice
Emma Serl created a practical and varied grammar book.I purchased this unsure of what I really was going to be getting.I am pleased.Our homeschooled children find the book's requirements easy to understand but challenging to accomplish.It is recommended for second and third graders, but I simplify the assignments for our first grader, as well.They are learning some grammar basics but don't seem to realize the amount of their effort.Read more

Fantastically helpful book for College access workers & college-bound students
This book is a bible for college preparatory services! All of our Americorps VISTA members took this book home for the holidays as part of their ongoing training as college access facilitators. There is really nothing else like this out there--there are tons of reports, but nothing else with faces, names, and the emotional resonance of First in the Family.

It really helped out...
I read this book while I was still in the 5th grade and wow!!!This book is great!It's been a while since I read it, but I was looking over it the other day and it really is a good book to read BEFORE middle school.A lot of it focuses on preparation and "the first day", so I wouldn't suggest reading it in the middle of the year... but do read it!It's a well written book.

summer homework
I bought this book for my son who will be starting first grade in the fall - I am very pleased with the content. I bought the book so he could keep up with his learning through the summer and get a head start in the areas he was not taught in kindergarten.It is the perfect book for the purpose intended. I will continue to do the same every summer with the next levels of this book.

This fabulous series of books helps parents be proactive in their kids' education.However, this 1st Grade edition may be too easy for kids who had an excellent kindergartenthat taught basics such as reading, phonics,simple math, etc. I've found it to be a good review of what my son learnedin kindergarten, but am goingto buy the 2nd grade level to prepare himfor 1st grade in his school.

finally!
This book truly helped me. I am now a sophomore at the University of Georgetown and this book's techniques, from breathing to skipping and coming back, helped me have the confidence and knowledge I needed to do well on the SATs. This book allowed me to see the test for what it was and find the best way to use my mind to conquer it. I owe a lot to these authors and highly reccomend it.

best buy for SAT assistance
My parents got me a couple of books intended to help me on the SATIs and IIs. "Zen in the Art of the SAT" was by far the most helpful. When I took the PSAT I was very nervous and didn't do as well as I would have liked. This book emphasized the development of an overall technique that increased my math, writing, and reading comprehension scores. I highly reccommend it.

It really works
I found this book AMAZINGLY helpful. My parents got me a lot of SAT books, but this was the only one that really made a difference. The strategies sounded so simple, but when I really practiced them - they just worked. My reading score went up 150 points and my Math went up 110.

My son loves this book
We found this at the library and it is the only one of it's kind I have ever seen.There are many books about going to school and preschool written for children but so far this is the only one I've found just for homeschoolers.
This is an enlightening book about a controversial subject!

Many Ways to Learn: Young People's Guide to Learning Disabil
My 10 year old son and I read this book together because he was resistant initially. He immediately connected with the mountain climbing analogy that the author uses to explain the challenges of a learning disability.Hesmiled and acknowledged his strengths and weaknesses when the textchallenged him to do so. The Greatest Book for Teens
I really loved this book. It had a lot of information that most teens do not know. Some teens think they can only talk to their friends about personal things that are bothering them. Students think teachers are just against them and just don't care about them. I know this book relates to me. Some of the stories told by the students, I could relate to. I felt the exact same way they did. I recommend this book to any teen who is having trouble in life and needs help dealing with it or anyone interested in reading a very interesting and educational book.

Nothing like it!
There is nothing like this book anywhere...for helping, confirming, educating, tickling, prodding. Not only does this book clue me in as a parent, it is a great resource for kids trying to get through high school the best they can, or failing to. I bought 3, one for each of my nieces and nephew. National Geograghic Student Atlas Of the World
Hello, I am a preschool teacher and a mother of school age children. I feel that this book gives a detailed yet short and sweet summaryabout the earth's climats, cultures, and environments that I have found for the school age child in a long time. It's easy to read and understand. Children enjoy the colorful pictures of people and places as well as the awesome space snapshots!

WAY OUT OF DATE!!!!!!!
The only review of this item liked it very much. Unfortunately, it didn't mention that it's 5+ years out of date. I thought that Yugoslavia didn't exist anymore and was surprised to see it in the index at about 5 or 6 places. (I wanted to find the new country(s)). Well! It does exist in this version. Why it is still offered when the revised edition has been published is a mystery to me.

Useful + not too expensive = great !!!!
I wanted to buy an useful and not too expensive Geographic Atlas. I dedicated quite a lot of time to evaluating my options, and ended up deciding that this Atlas was likely to be a good choice, basing my decision on the sample pages that Amazon offers. Fortunately, when I received my purchase, I discovered that I had made the right decision:)

A window into the life of a student with a disability
As a middle school math teacher, I found this book very informative and realistic.

I think this memoir was so well written I dont know what to say. The way she describes everything- I can see myself in a few chapters as she struggles with those panic attacks. I suffer the same ones, day and night worrying, and how she described them, its perfect. That book really had an impact on me.
