5-0 out of 5 stars A rich part of this bilingual Canadian's heritage
Among my very early memories is as one of several children sitting on the sloped lawn between two of my neighbour's houses, each of us reading a different story - and so, in no particular order - from "Les Aventures de Tintin." This was my introduction to the most extraordinary comics world ever created, a part of my French-language heritage, though the series has been translated into many languages including English. My goal with these reviews (one for each volume) is to explain to an American audience why Tintin is such a phenomenon in the rest of the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Continues to Impress
I've been collecting comics for 16+ years. I was introduced to Amazing Spider-Man during the Michelinie/Bagley run, and I wasn't particularly impressed with the character's direction at the time. I returned to the franchise when Straczynski took over, and from there I leapfrogged to Ultimate Spider-Man.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Spider-Man versus Deadpool, Moebius, the Punisher and Daredevil (oh my)
In "Ultimate Spider-Man" Annual #1, Kitty Pryde and Peter Parker went out on their first date and took down a (semi) super-villain together.Things are progressing pretty well, but this is Spider-Man so you knew the downside of dating an X-Men was going to show up and in the 4-part "Deadpool" story ("Ultimate Spider-Man #91-94), it does with a vengeance.Written by Brian Michael Bendis, with pencils by Mark Bagley and inks by Danny Miki, the story begins after another crime-fighting date, Peter is settling down for a nice quiet night at home, when the X-Men's jet arrives, hovering over his house. When Spider-Man climbs aboard he discovers there is no one on board and when it flies on autopilot to the X-Mansion, Spider-Man find Kitty waiting for him--with an electric stun-gun that knocks him out. Then "Kitty" changes shape, and if you do not know into who then you are simply not paying attention to the title of this story arc.

Ms. Osborne's magic in telling a story is really shown in the latest series of books. My son started on these when he was 4 years old and now now approaching second grade, he is still enjoying the series. We generally read the book and then re-read the book with listening to the audio book. The stories are so fun that even adults enjoy it.This book is great for the summertime and really gets you in the mood for summer adventure. We plan to continue the series and I hope that Ms. Osborne ages the kids with more of the adventures! 5-0 out of 5 stars Warriors of the Dawn
If you havn't read the series this book may be confusing. It is a very good book. The characters were mazing. There were five cats that walked all the way to the sun drown place. Feathertail dies but she saved all of the other cats. When they get back with thier Clan Squirrelpaw was told that her sister was captured by the two-legs. Squirrelpaw ended up saving her and a bunch of other cats. Graystripe was caught in the process of the rescue. Near the middle of the book the two-legs drive the cats out of the forrest. They head for the mountians to get to thier new home on the other side. In the mountians they find the tribe cats who helped save the kits. They stay with the tribe cats to regain thier strength an move on. I loved this book, it was amazing. If you like cats you will love this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dawn: The BEST book in the seires so far by: Rogueheart, a WindClan warrior
Dawn is the greatest book in the seires! I love it! I think that it is awsome how Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw like each other so much. It's really sad how Graystripe is captured. And how Stormfur joins the Tribe of Rushing Water to be with Brook. But, all in all, this book is a great recovery from Moonrise. Me and my friend Blackeye,a ShadowClan warrior, were thrilled when we found out that Firestar and Sandstorm had kits, so it's nice to get both Leafpaw's and Squirrelpaw's point of view!

this is one of Anthoney Horrowitz best book Ark Angel was an incredibly writtin book. it was incredible it always kept me thinking on what was going on. this book will keep you on edge its always making you think if he is ever going to survive and if he can be the hero.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Alex Rider Saga Continues Well...
Other than Stormbreaker, this may be the next best Alex Rider adventure yet.In some ways the plot is predictable as all Alex Rider stories are - except for the ending surprise in Scorpia. The action is fast paced and is perfect for a teenage boy reader. Girls who enjoy spy stories will like it too. It is hard to put the book down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Howlingly good
A fantastically funny tale of witches, wizards, demons and magic, all rolled up into an entertaining book for all ages.If you've seen the movie of the same name, you should note that there were many changes in the story on the way to animation, but the book remains the better version.
4-0 out of 5 stars A charming tale of fantasy and adventure
Like many others I first watched the animated movie of Howl's Moving Castle and was immediately inspired to seek out the book.Although the book is a bit different from the movie I did like both of them equally well.
5-0 out of 5 stars "I think we should live happily ever after."
I loved this book!It is full of humor, memorable characters, magic spells and fire demons. Not many authors can pull off a novel with the two main characters being a 90-year-old woman and a self-centered and vain wizard.Diana Wynne Jones pulls it off with panache, and leaves readers with a thoroughly contented feeling at the finish.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bizarre 3rd book in ember series.
Like most people I read the "city of ember", the first book in the series and was hooked. The city of ember is wonderfully creative and keeps you turning pages quickly. The second book in the series "the people of sparks" is less captivating with a slower story, but still readable and enjoyable. This third book is awful. It is slow and uninteresting. There is little plot conflict to compel the reader. The characters are thinly developed. What plot does exist is often bizarre. The author has obviously run out of creative ideas. It seems to me the problem is that everyone loved the underground city sci-fi setting of the first book, but that book ends with the abandonment of the city.So the author had no room for a sequel. The author should have started this prequel with the apocalyptic end of civilization and the population of the city of ember. Then the book could have focused on the people struggling to colonize the new underground city.Perhaps that will be book number 4.If so, that may be worth reading. This slow moving thinly plotted and down right boring book that is wholly disconnected from the other 2 books should be skipped. You are missing nothing, trust me.

2-0 out of 5 stars The hobbit
I didnt really enjoy this book because it was hard for me to understand. I understood the characters and i could picture what they looked liked because it has good discription, but other than that the rest of the book didn't grab my intrest. The biggest reason I didn't like this book was probably because it wasn't real, like how the hobbits lived under ground. After reading this book I relized that i'm just not into fantasy stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of these books
The story of a simple man on a long journey, I enjoyed every page and have read it again and again.
5-0 out of 5 stars There and Back Again
I know that over a thousand people have reviewed this wonderful book but I felt so strongly about The Hobbit that I just had to say sonething about it. The Hobbit was and still is a masterpiece, and will remain a masterpiece for centuries to come. One of the main reasons why is that its prose and style of writing is absolutely captivating. It has a simple and delightful charm to it that makes you want to keep on reading. Its plot is also a treat. It is not boring or stale, as I've heard others say, but lively. Also, with this book, there are many coicidences and connections among characters (so what if Bilbo didn't kill Smaug? Think about it. Could a little hobbit really kill a dragon twenty times his size, despite his cunning and discreetness? I don't think so). Best of all, though, it has a sweet message and theme that can actually leave you pondering about it for hours. I have read the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I have to admit that, in my opinion, The Hobbit is better, despite the Trilogy's genius. What can I say? It's an excellent read, and definetly worth your time. The only thing you'll regret is that it will go by too fast. ... Read more

Editorial Review

At birth, Ella is inadvertently cursed by an imprudent fairy named Lucinda, who bestows on her the "gift" of obedience. Anything anyone tells her to do, Ella must obey. Another girl might have been cowed by this affliction, but not feisty Ella: "Instead of making me docile, Lucinda's curse made a rebel of me. Or perhaps I was that way naturally." When her beloved mother dies, leaving her in the care of a mostly absent and avaricious father, and later, a loathsome stepmother and two treacherous stepsisters, Ella's life and well-being seem in grave peril. But her intelligence and saucy nature keep her in good stead as she sets out on a quest for freedom and self-discovery, trying to track down Lucinda to undo the curse, fending off ogres, befriending elves, and falling in love with a prince along the way. Yes, there is a pumpkin coach, a glass slipper, and a happily ever after, but this is the most remarkable, delightful, and profound version of Cinderella you've ever read.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Almost enchanting
While this was definitely a fun and charming book to read, and one I'd recommend to friends or discerning preteens, I am not sure I would give it to a young child.Despite being clever and inventive, I was somewhat upset at the speciesm and stereotypes present here.Humanoid characters are mostly presented as "good," but characters who are different from humans are usually shown as "bad" or soulless, unworthy of consideration or respect.Natural beauty is always "good," but ugliness is always tied to evil. For instance, when the main character thinks of why she shouldn't listen to the ogres' presuasive speeches when they waylay her on the road, the only substantive reason she presents is that they have blood under the fingernails--her other (and in fact, primary) "reasons" have to do with the fact that they are ugly, hairy, etc.The ogres are likewise presented as unquestionably unsympathetic and "Other" due to the sole fact that they eat humans--and yet neither Ella, nor anyone else, ever thinks to question how non-human animals are treated by the human denizens of her kingdom.Ella tells the ogres, "I am not an IT!" but she enjoys going to see caged animals at the castle, and views non-human characters almost like circus curiosities.Centaurs, being not fully humanoid, are described solely in animal terms, and are presented as "dumb" (both in terms of intelligence and being unable to speak), with empty eyes and without personalities, souls, or feelings.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ella Enchanted
"That fool of a fairy did not intend to lay a curse on me." Ella Enchanted written by Gail Carson Levine is a book filled with magical edventure, this fantasy book its what you've been looking for! The main characters are Ella, Char, Hattie, Olive, and Mandy. Ella is cursed with the gift of obedience. She must do every thing people command her to do. Ella has tried many times to break the curse but only the person who did the cures can take it. Her father is a merchant. He is almost never home which leaves her alone with her stepmother and her stepsisters who are always ordering her around. It reminds me of Cinderella because their stepmothers are always making them do stuff for them. If you liked Cinderella you'll love Ella Enchanted!

5-0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too
I have a confession to make.I have never particularly cared for Lewis Carroll's (aka the Reverend Charles Dodgson's) ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND.Although I've read that story, once, it has never even come close to being one of my favorites. With Frank Beddor's THE LOOKING GLASS WARS, however, I can easily say that I was drawn into the story from the first page--and have found a new book to add to my list of favorites.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Re-Imagining
I don't normally write book reviews and I have no intention of heading off in this direction too often, but "The Looking Glass Wars" inspired me enough to share my enthusiasm. Frank Beddor's book takes the premise of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" adventures and stands it on its head. Essentially, what Beddor does is re-imagine Carroll's fantasies as the true adventures of a young girl named Alyss (Carroll even got the name wrong, apparently!), a princess who lives in an alternate universe called Wonderland. As the book opens, she is the heir apparent about to celebrate her seventh birthday, but is forced to make an escape when her evil aunt murders her parents and lays claim to the throne. Fleeing through a `looking glass,' Alice is deposited in mid-18th century England, where she is soon relating her tales to an opportunistic English writer named Reverend Charles Dodgson (whose nom-de-plume -in reality -is Lewis Carroll).
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Wonderland
Many people keep comparing this to Lewis Carroll's original. That cannot be done. This book is a masterpiece that stands on it's own.The only knowledge one must have of "Alice" to read about THIS "Alyss" is the fact that Lewis Carroll wrote a book entitled Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland, that was often classified as being fanciful, which the children of today speculate the author as being on crack when writing it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The scary, the funny, and the just plain weird
Take some excellent, renowmed writers, have them write a collection of stories for kids, and this is what you get.An eclectic, fun, sometimes creepy mix of tales that those of all ages are likely to enjoy.
5-0 out of 5 stars sweet
The general impression is that it's a collection of stories that the authors would have like to read when they were kids. Some of them may be scary to the announced age group (4-7) but most are just sweet. For the adult many of them will remind the reader how it was to be a kid. And for the kid, this will make them feel vindicated for many injustices they suffer, like the loud mean boy that everybody likes, over-controlling parents, and having to play sports when they really don't want to.
5-0 out of 5 stars Enertaining
The collection of stories is a must read for fans of intelligent young adult stories. Even the introduction, by Lemony Snicket, poking fun of books that are more mundane (with a terrific nod to Harry Potter) is a great read. I liked Gaiman's and Hornby's stories. ... Read more

This Book was awesome! I had a blast reading it. In no time, it was my favorite book of the five I've read so far. Maybe it was my favorite book of all the books I've read in my life! It was definatly a top book. I never expected for any book to be as great as this book was! I would be really surprised if any book was better than this one! I would reccomend this book to anyone who takes interest in awesome books.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best of the first five!

4-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!
Winter of the Ice Wizard is an exciting book you should read it. It starts here, The wizard has lost his eye and his heart. So he only has one eyeball left. Jack and Annie must find his eyeball quick! Before they are in danger... So then the wizard gives them the wind string. And they are off! On their way they met fate sisters who wove cloth to make story's. Annie asked them what the first story was about. The fate sisters said: "Oh that is a sad story". "It all starts here: "The wizard had a beatiful daughter, One day he asked her to leave him forever, She cried but she did what he ordered, She found the water world and she was then turned into a swan. I will leave the story so find out more in this story yourself. At the end he got his eyeball but still could not see but when he almosts destroys them Kathleen and Teddy boght back his daghter and she gives back his heart, And then he can see! And also the wolf's become Merlin and Morgen. My opinion is that girls 6+ and boys 7+ will enjoy this.

Anyone who loves adventure will love this book.Winter of the Ice Wizard by Mary Pope Osborne is #32 in The Magic Tree House Series.Jack, Annie, and the Ice Wizard are the main characters. The setting is in a frozen kingdom in the winter. The main problem in this book is when Jack and Annie try to find the eye-ball without getting killed by the wolves. At the end of the book you will find out who the wolves are.

5-0 out of 5 stars WHAT A DELIGHTFUL BOOK - WOULD BE A GREAT PRESENT FOR THE DRAGON LOVER
I was truely impressed with this offering. This is a wonderful little book about just what the title indicates "Dragonology."The entire book is producted in a sort of medieval mode, with wonderful illustrations. The books if filled with maps, puzzels, drawings, anatomy lessons (dragons of course), life styles (again, dragons) types, habits, origins, lore and even riddles. The work is quite a combination of originality and pure imagination from the author. This is one of those books that might first appear to be classified as juvinal, but it is so much more. The art work alone is worth the price of the book. The text is imaginative yet quite realistic in it's presentation. As I said, I was truely impressed with this one and highly recommend it.This would make a wonderful gift for any lover of dragons, dragon lore or for that matter just a fun read.

5-0 out of 5 stars LET YOUR IMAGINATION SORE!
If you like dragons, this is for you. Dragonology is a book for any age. It's cool that they show dragon skin and dragon dust. This book gave me more info on dragons, and I believe in dragons. I read in one night and I am always going back to it. I love dragons more, than I did, before I read the book. This book will leave you with all smiles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating look at the "real" world of the legendary dragon
"Authored" by noted dragonologist "Dr. Ernest Drake," "Dragonology" is a short but concise "encyclopedia" for anyone interested in the winged creatures of international lore.Divided into eight chapters, covering such diverse topics as "dragons of the world," "dragon biology and physiology," and "dragon behaviour," the book is profusely illustrated and generously features such hands-on additions as "dragon dust" and pieces of "dragon skin," all designed to satisfy even the casual dragon fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Book size
Well I remembered how much I loved the Narnia series when I was a kid so when I saw all seven books in a box set I had to have them. There is one thing bothering me though, do these books seem shorter to anyone else?I was sure that the books had more pages to them when I first read them, or maybe it was because I was smaller back then!Anyway, I am glad to own the set, I can't wait to give them to my kids to read if I ever have any...

4-0 out of 5 stars narnia
i bought the 7 books set because i am a great fun of tolkien and i had read about lewis in his biography
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Fun!
I have not read these books since I was quite young. It was great to see they have withstood the test of time.I enjoyed them as an adult as much as I did when I was a kid.The boxed set is something I will enjoy having in my library and reading again and again. They really are timeless stories.I wish they would make films of more of them.

Editorial Review

This Roald Dahl classic tells the scary, funny and imaginative tale of a seven-year-old boy who has a run-in with some real-life witches! "In fairy tales witches always wear silly black hats and black cloaks and they ride on broomsticks. But this is not a fairy tale. This is about REAL WITCHES. REAL WITCHES dress in ordinary clothes and look very much like ordinary women. They live in ordinary houses and they work in ordinary jobs. That is why they are so hard to catch."Witches, as our hero learns, hate children. With the help of a friend and his somewhat-magical grandmother, our hero tries to expose the witches before they dispose of him. Ages 7-12. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What an experience!
I have to admit I actually have no idea this book exist. I actually thought the movie was an original and not a book adaptation. Nevertheless it was a pleasant surprise to actually read this book and it wasn't a let down either since it's the first time ever for me to read one of Roald Dahl's work.
4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific, Clean Story
Dahl delivers again with the story that will capture your imagination within the first chapter. He effectively creates a fantastic, yet believable world in which your discomfort compels you to read on. Dahl's description of witches and their perception of children is just plain disturbing, but in a good way!

Editorial Review

Nine-year-old Tiffany Aching needs magic--fast! Her sticky little brother Wentworth has been spirited away by the evil Queen of faerie, and it’s up to her to get him back safely. Having already decided to grow up to be a witch, now all Tiffany has to do is find her power. But she quickly learns that it’s not all black cats and broomsticks. According to her witchy mentor Miss Tick, "Witches don’t use magic unless they really have to...We do other things. A witch pays attention to everything that’s going on...A witch uses her head...A witch always has a piece of string!" Luckily, besides her trusty string, Tiffany’s also got the Nac Mac Feegles, or the Wee Free Men on her side. Small, blue, and heavily tattooed, the Feegles love nothing more than a good fight except maybe a drop of strong drink! Tiffany, heavily armed with an iron skillet, the feisty Feegles, and a talking toad on loan from Miss Tick, is a formidable adversary. But the Queen has a few tricks of her own, most of them deadly. Tiffany and the Feegles might get more than they bargained for on the flip side of Faerie!Prolific fantasy author Terry Pratchett has served up another delicious helping of his famed Discworld fare. The not-quite-teen set will delight in the Feegles’ spicy, irreverent dialogue and Tiffany’s salty determination. Novices to Pratchett’s prose will find much to like here, and quickly go back to devour the rest of his Discworld offerings. Scrumptiously recommended. (Ages 10 to 14) Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Discworld
I've decided he's too good and too prolific for me to write a brand new review every single time I read one of his books. Discworld currently has 34 titles and every one of them will probably knock your socks off. His mind bubbles and f
