In this third installment to Eoin Colfer's funny, fast-paced, fairy-filled adventure series, boy genius and arch criminal Artemis Fowl once again can't resist plotting the perfect crime--and, once again, he can't keep from stirring up so much trouble that the fate of the entire fairy world teeters in the balance. 4-0 out of 5 stars The Eternity Code
John Spiro, a very wealthy and successful business man, and Artemis Fowl, a boy genius who is trying to keep the Fowl wealth up, meet in a seafood restaurant because Artemis has called with a proposition. Artemis and Butler, his manservant, are waiting at the restaurant when Spiro and his bodyguard, Arno Blunt, arrive. Artemis had created a cube that was a micro T.V., verbally controlled computer, mobile phone, and a diagnostic aid. Artemis won't sell the C cube to Spiro, but will keep it off the market for a year if Spiro will pay him. Spiro doesn't want to pay, steals the C cube, and abruptly leaves. Arno and the restaurant "staff," hired by Spiro are left to fight Artemis and Butler. Artemis manages to escape, but Butler is badly wounded with a bullet shot half an inch below his heart. Artemis must figure out a way to get help to Butler. The People, underground fairies and elves, play a part in restoring Butler back to life. He's alive, but a lot different.
3-0 out of 5 stars The Eternity Code
In the third installment of the Artemis Fowl series the boy wonder decides to do one last "business" deal because he thinks that the recovery of his father and his new outlook on life will soon prevent him from committing his scandalous heists. He takes the stolen fairy technology he got from his first encounter with the fairy people and makes a computer that is decades ahead of what is currently on the human market. He proposes a deal with a very powerful business owner named John Spiro. The deal was that Artemis would allow Johnny boy to buy some shares of the soon to be opened Fowl Enterprises but John wants that box of cash for himself. A gun battle occurs and John runs out with the cube and in the process john's bodyguard gives Butler a fatal wound. After some quick thinking on Artemis' part he is able to save his dear friend's life. He then plots revenge against Mr. Spiro with the help of some very familiar friends from the fairy community. This book is kind of intriguing. There is some good plot development and the dialogue was top notch. There is a lot of character development in this book and this series as well. There are some things that concern me however. The book is too easy, sure there may be two hundred some pages but a child could read it in a day max. Some places were kind of repetitive and had the same thinks in the previous editions. This book I consider is one of his good ones. There are some that I have to say need some work. I personally like his writing style. It has this directness to it that doesn't wander so much even though that might be a deterining factor as to the length on the book. I do not think that Eoin Colfer is a bad writer. I just think that he has time to refine his writing style and I personally would enjoy some constructive criticism now and then.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Amazing Installment
In the "Eternity Code" Artemis Fowl starts off with a bang (literally) when a supercomptuer (The C-Cube) he built out of fairy helmet components is stolen by Jon Spiro, a ruthless buisinessman, and his bodyguard Arno Blunt. Butler is mortally wounded, and the faries underground city of Haven is in danger of exposure. So, Artemis tricks a LEPrecon agent, none other than Captian Holly Short, into coming aboveground to heal Butler. That is the summary of the first few chapters. Not many faries actually take a large part in the story except for Holly and Mulch Diggums. Foaly only comes in near the end and he's only on the comlink, so I don't know if that's an 'appearance' or not. Anyhow, the seemingly grim book is humorous at times. I loved when Artemis scared the waitress (must read to appreciate), Mulch's attempt at driving, and the scene when Pex and Chips try to 'bury Mulch deep'. The ending was kind of depressing, and I wondered if this was the end of the series, but I read it when book 4 wasn't even an internet rumor yet, although newcomers have the benifit of not having to wait 2 years (or however long it took) for the next one. Read the first two though, or you will be EXTREMELY confused. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book
It was a great book because a boy named Milo has a adventure discovering a new world. He findsa dog named the Watch Dog and he makes friends with him. He is wanting to go to Dictionopolis. Travels in a little electric car. He has to go to other cities to get to Dictionopolis. He meets other people and learns some stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Funny!Very Clever!
I read this book with my mom and we both loved it!This book has an interesting beginning, a strange middle and a suspenseful ending. The author put in lots of creative puns and amusing ways to use words. For example, Milo (the boy) thinks he going to meet a witch in the dungeon, but actually he meets a "Which" who chooses which words to say and which words not to say. I liked how numbers were gems and words were food.Personally, I believe that words are more valuable than numbers.I think the author just plain rocks!
5-0 out of 5 stars Magical and Metaphorical
I read the Phantom Tollbooth when I was a kid and absolutely loved it.The strange characters who all seem to control something uncontrollable (sound, color, and so on) stayed with me for years afterwards, so that when I saw it on the bargain table in the book store I decided to pick it up again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smart
This is a captivating children's story that will make you looking forward to the next book of the series.I think it is smart on the part of the author to finish this Book 1 just after Kate follows Matt into Abadazad. This is exactly why the readers will wait for Book 2.My problem, however, is that the story was not long enough.I wish the book contained 280 pages, instead of 140.It would also make me feel that my money was well spend...Otherwise the book is great, nicely designed, with vibrant colors. Overall I rate it for 4.5 stars. If I were to recommend another great new children's book series, it would be "Why Some Cats are Rascals" (5 stars *****) - mainly for its educational value, althought the story is also fascinating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vivid adventure.
Take the graphic novel format, add full color, and add more text to get a vivid enchanting diary/journal of magic, adventure, and a friendless child whose life changes. A journey to another world makes for vivid adventure.
5-0 out of 5 stars Deeply moving story with sumptuous illustrations
These books share a trait with Alice in Wonderland/Looking Glass in having multiple layers of meaning.Alice books were a bit too mental when I read them in my young age, and fully appreciated them only after I had grown up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Artemis Fowl:the arctic incident
Artemis Fowl is set on an estate outside the city of Dublin, Ireland and in Arctic Russia. At the beginning of the book, it is made clear that Artemis' beliefs that his father, Artemis Fowl Senior, a wealthy Irish crime lord, was alive, is correct. When his ship, the Fowl Star, sank in his attempt to bring 250,000 cans of soda to the Russians, Artemis Fowl Sr. was found alive and has been held prisoner for the past two years by the Russian Mafia. At the beginning, the Mafia has decided that it is time to negotiate a ransom for Artemis Senior. The price is very high and the deal is under a timelimit. This would not be a problem except just as Artemis is ready to get going; he is kidnapped by "The People" a race of fairies living underground. It seems that members of the goblin's secret organization, B'wa Kell, have been found with human sources. Since goblins are basically idiots, it becomes clear that someone not remotely related to a goblin is operating the fiendish scheme. Artemis is immediately blamed and is taken prisoner by Holly Short (Holly Short, a captain of the LEPrecon (Lower Elemental Police Reconnaissance) an elite force trained in dealing with the "Mud People" (humans) along with his trusty bodyguard, Butler. After it becomes clear that Artemis is innocent, they are recruited to locate and demolish the goblins connection in exchange for their services in gaining the release of Artemis Senior. Working under enormous time pressure, their task is accomplished, but when Holly and her superior Commander Root, set out to fulfill their part of the bargain, a takeover occurs underground in the land of "the People." Foaly, the tech expert, who is also a centaur, is accused of heading up the revolution. Holly, Julius, Foaly, Artemis Jr., and Butler race against time to save The People from an evil dictator and save the life of Artemis Senior.
5-0 out of 5 stars Artemis Fowl - The Arctic Incident Pleases Both Listener And Reader
After listening to a public library audiobook copy of the first Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl), my children and I were eager to see if there were other books available in the series. We learned that our library did not have subsequent copies, so I hurried to Amazon to see what I could find. We've now purchased and listened to "Artemis Fowl - The Arctic Incident" and have donated it to our public library so others may share in the story. Not only is each book in the series wonderfully written, with fully crafted, believable characters - insofar as fairy-tale characters can be believable - but the audiobook is narrated by one of the most skillful readers I've ever heard.Nathaniel Parker, also the narrator for the first book, is back with his fantastic portrayals of our favorite characters. This book has all the necessary ingredients for enjoyment:comedy, adventure, fantasy - all played out through witty and engaging dialog between easily distinguishable characters. The author, Eoin Colfer, must have been a Monty Python fan too, because some of the lines uttered as asides by a couple of his characters could just as likely have been said by one of the Flying Circus troupe. My family highly recommends this book, in either printed or audio form. ... I thought this book was way better than most of the reviews portrayed it.I really enjoyed the concept of this book.It was definitely new and exciting.I'm not going to write a plot summary.Amazon and some of the reviewers do a way better job than I could.I didn't think it started out boring at all.It did get a little bogged down in the middle.I think it may have been from where this book was translated.I found it easy to get involved with the characters.I would really recommend this to young adults and adults who love fantasy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Body of Christopher Creed
This is a superbly written teen novel containing an array of excrutiatingly real characters. Being a teacher of teenagers, I see these kids at school on a daily basis. I've read a large number of Young Adult novels that create cartoony representations of what a teenager "looks like." THE BODY OF CHRISTOPHER CREED looks, sounds and feels much more realistic. That is the pillar of this highly engaging story.
5-0 out of 5 stars chris creed- missing the message
I thought this was a fabulous book; very suspenseful and realistic. I'm not going to summarize because everyone else has just done that. The characters were very realistic and beleiveable, and so was the situation- kids go missing in high school at least once a year. The only thing that bothered me about the book was that the author used the word 'mutter' way to much, and she used it inappropriately, which repeatedly got on my nerves. But other than that, it was fabulous.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Body of Christopher Creed review by Evan FMS
All of his life Christopher Creed had been considered a freak, the target of the bullies at his school. When Christopher Creed disappears, however, he captures the attention of the entire town, and he upsets the lives of those whohad tormented him. Creed's disappearance has a profound effect on Torey Adams, Steepleton High School's popular football star. Torey makes a mission out of trying to discover what happened to Creed and discovers how truly brutal life can be.

"Cathy'sBook" is an interesting, great read! It is about a girl who is suddenly dumped by her boyfriend, Victor, after mysteriously fainting and waking up with a needle mark on her arm. The story follows her and her friend, Emma as they unfold the mystery of why her boyfriend dumped her and where this mysterious mark on her arm came from. As they get deeper and deeper into their investigation, they learn shocking things about Victor, and Cathy ends up suspecting that Victor is a murderer. That is only the main plot. If I were to write about all of the sub-plots, I'd have a good three of four paragraphs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Respect the shield!
Half Moon Investigations is a surprisingly (and refreshingly) NON fantasy novel from Eion Colfer. I love the Artemis Fowl books and found The Supernaturalist to be interesting (if not great) so it's obvious I would pick this book up right away. I'd never heard of it until I saw it in the shop and the cool cover and Eion Colfer's name in big letters was the selling point for me, regardless of whether or not the actual blurb made the book look any good.
5-0 out of 5 stars Funny kid investigation
This book by the Artemis Fowl author is a funny study of a kid who has always known he was a detective since the day he fingered the diaper-bound swiper of a shiny bauble in day-care.
1-0 out of 5 stars >_< I expected better from Colfer
As a raving Artemis Fowl fan, I bought this book for 20$ at Barnes and Nobles. However, I was severely disappointed. This book is a disgrace compared to the Artemis Fowl series. It's a disappointment to see Eoin Colfer writing so bad >_<. This book has a weak plot, doesn't make much sense, and the ending is rather bad. I'm disappointed in you Eoin! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle... To Good To Be True?
I have been reading the Drizzt centered Salvatore books for several years now, and while I have really enjoyed them, I always longed for something a little less cavalier or noble. I didn't always relate to him because of his strong moral beliefs. That said the series did introduce me to a character I was instantly captivated by Artemis Entreri. When I found out that Salvatore had finally written a book about him and had put him with Jarlaxle I had to read it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Servant of the Shard - A Review
If you are tired of reading about the exploits of Drizzt Do'Urden, suffer no more. R.A. Salvatore's new series The Sellswords is exciting and fun. The main characters Artemis Entreri and Jaraxle are well done. Overall the book is great and lends itself to be read quite well. Not many cliches found on this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eat it up like Hotcakes
R.A. Salvatore brings another hot book to the shelves with Servant of the Shard. This fantasy novel would intrigue any and all fantasy readers with its immense room for imagination of creatures and characters. Each time I sat down to read I became encased in a web that this book spins so effectively.Layers of intrigue, deceit, and backstabbing kept me flipping these pages like hotcakes.Artemis Entreri and Jaraxle are two very "evil" people, but they just don't seem to fall on my bad side.Artemis became this very complicated character just below the surface of his calm.Jaraxle and Artemis become a duo that rivals Batman and Robin, just they aren't so goody good. They keep more tricks up their sleeves than Batman holds in his utility belt, especially Jaraxle.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Completes
When I first reviewed The Giver years ago, I loved it.Until I got to the end.It felt woefully incomplete. It wasn't simply that the reader was required to imagine possibilities. It felt like the author hadn't finished showing us her theme. Now she has with this sequel, and I only wish I could go back to increase the stars on The Giver, for the sequel has pulled up that book as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars Gathering Blue

People thought that she was no good and couldn't do anything for the community. One of the women of the community had taken her land and made it into a place for their small children. These same women didn't agree that Kira should stay; she had gone to the Council of Guardians with the situation.
4-0 out of 5 stars Gathering Blue, the best of Lois Lowry

5-0 out of 5 stars Gregor and The Marks of Secret - Series Number 4
This is the 4th book in the Gregor The Underland Chronicles series. My granddaughter continually reminds me to check for the next volume of this particular book series as she loves the adventure. She began reading the series when she was 11. She is now 12 and is as much excited about the Gregor books as she was from the beginning. I've already been asked to check for the 5th book in the series, which I understand is arriving in early 2007.
5-0 out of 5 stars Suzanne Collins is a GENUIS!!!!!!
Gregor and the Marks of Secret is one of the best books I've ever read. The Underland Chronicles are SO amazing.Suzanne Collins is the best at world-building.I read Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods in two days, and it was over three-hundred pages long. These books are impossibel to put down.

5-0 out of 5 stars GO GREGOR
GREGOR AND THE MARKS OF SECRET was a lot deeper than all the others. Not better than THE PROPHECY OF BANE, but still definatelly worth your while. Can't wait 'till GREGOR AND THE CODE OF CLAW (last book) comes out. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Exciting, but flawed
