1-0 out of 5 stars THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL, "STUPID TALES"
THERE WAS NO DOUBT I WASN'T WARNED BEFORE PURCHASING THIS, WHAT I WAS GETTING.IT'S SARCASTIC, PARTS ARE FUNNY, BUT I COULDN'T BRING MYSELF TO WASTE ANY MORE OF MY TIME BY FINISHING THE BOOK. HOWEVER, HIS BOOK ABOUT THE WOLF & 3 PIGS WAS MUCH MORE CLEVER AND ENTERTAINING.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tails
A fantastic book not only for the young, but all ages. However, if you do not have the background knowledge in the many original fairy tales, you may fail to see the humour throughout the book. I love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stinky Cheese... funny? YES!
The story is narrated by Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. It is separated into a few short funny stories based on well known fairy tales.Jack talks to characters in the stories as well as the reader throughout the book in a very comical way that keeps the readers involved and entertained. All of the short stories are very funny and separate from each other; however, the characters sometimes travel from one story to another as a sort of underlying plot.

    Editorial Review

"There has obviously been some kind of mistake," writes Alexander T.Wolf from the pig penitentiary where he's doing time for his alleged crimes of 10 years ago. Here is the "real" story of the three little pigs whose houses are huffed and puffed to smithereens... from the wolf's perspective. This poor, much maligned wolf has gotten a bad rap. He just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, with a sneezy cold, innocently trying to borrow a cup of sugar to make his granny a cake. Is it his fault those ham dinners--rather, pigs--build such flimsy homes? Sheesh.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The True Story Of The Three Little Pigs
The true story of the three little pigs is about a wolf who needed a cup of sugur for his grandma's birthday cake. The wolf was also sick.So the wolf went to the first house. It was made of hay.The wolf said hello is any body there?
5-0 out of 5 stars The True Story of The Three Little Pigs
Jon Scieska wrote the book The True Story of The Three Little Pigs. The genre of this book is Fiction. In the book, there are four main characters. They are Alexander, and the three little pigs.
5-0 out of 5 stars AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT
This is a wonderful, delightful and simply funny off take on the old three little pigs story. It is told by the wolf and the story is through his eyes. Now whether you choose to believe his story or not, is completely up to you.The wolf is able to tell a pretty convincing tale, but you just don't really know. This story could be pulled from the newspaper of any of our large city papers today. The author has a true wit about his writing that is appealing to bothyoung and old.The art work is great and fits quite well with the text.Recommend this one quite highly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Train Your Child To Be An Analytical Thinker (and Innoculate Him Against Math Phobia)....
After her math teacher "Mrs. Fibonacci" says that almost everything could be thought of as a math problem, the narrator enters a bizarre realm where "everything seems to be a problem," and it gets increasingly worse, as she becomes a "math zombie" before the brilliant (and for older folks, profound) conclusion. The math problems start out simple ("It takes me 10 minutes to get dressed...If my bus leaves at 8:00, will I make it on time?"), even English is a math problem ("If mail+box=mailbox... Does lipstick-stick=lip?)"Money, time, measurement, fractions, sequences, estimation, sets, logic and more are covered--there's even a quadratic formula and mention of Zeno! The brilliance of this book is that it anticipates and removes the obstacle of math phobia, specifically fear of word problems, that I saw more often than not back when I was a math teacher.Although the bookcover says "For ages > 6 and < 99,"and that is true because of the layers of relevance, I'd especially recommend it for early third grade, that way by the time the onslaught of word problems begins, word problems will seem more like word "puzzles" and fun.Great critical thinking tool, fun both in its story and visuals.

    1-0 out of 5 stars Um...yeah
This book is really stupid and, honestly, if I had children, I would not ever put them down by giving them this book.Anyone who has a brain with a capacity higher than that of one with F.A.S. should be able to figure out the answes within two seconds or less and is a waste of money and time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Real-Life Math Book
This book is great for showing kids how math constantly appears in real life!

5-0 out of 5 stars Science Verse
"Science Verse" and " Math Curse" both are hilarious books. The tapes they come with also come with the funnyness of the books. I find "Science Verse" a lot more non-thinking-about-it book than Math Curse, but "Math Curse" is more brain racking.

5-0 out of 5 stars For any guy
I almost got to hear Jon Scieszka talk about this book in person in 2005 but the fire marshal closed the large auditorium at the San Antonio convention center and a huge number of librarians were left staring at the closed doors. The overflow attendance at his talk highlighted the level of concern there is about boys and reading (or their lack thereof) today.

4-0 out of 5 stars A reverse story with a happily ever after ending.
Jon Scieszka, author, has a way of twisting a fairy tale around and truly making it his own.The frog prince is tired of being nagged by his princess about hopping around on furniture and having lily pads in his pocket, he just wants to be a frog again and live happily ever after. The frog prince sets off on an adventure and goes from witch to witch (witches from other fairy tales) begging for them to turn him into a frog again. He comes upon a witch who finally tries but fails, turning him into a frog carriage. At the stroke of midnight the frog prince changes back to a prince and runs home to kiss his beautiful priness who he loves so much (only because he thought he was going to live out the rest of his life as a carriage in the scary woods). He kisses her and....well, I don't want to give away the creative ending. The illustrations are a bit dark but creative and effective to the sadness in the beginning of the story and woods through-out the rest.

4-0 out of 5 stars Frog Prince Continued-06
And they all lived happily ever after........or not. The frog prince continued happens after the marriage of the frog prince and the beautiful princess. However life in the kingdom is not so magical. They fight they bicker, he whines she nags and now the frog prince wants nothing more than to become a frog again. So he sets off through the forest to find the witch who can turn him back into a frog. He meets many interesting witches along the way and finally one who can make him a frog, but is that really what he wants? Or does he wish he was with the princess again?

5-0 out of 5 stars Egypt...... in time warp land
Time-traveling is not as cool as you think. Being mummified, being trapped in a secret room and having your friend almost eaten by a crocodile is not cool. But what is cool is being treated as a royal guest in Thutmose III's palace, sailing in his boat and teaching him basketball. So, if you like things that are cool and not, you should read this hilariously funny book.

    Editorial Review

Every once in a while a book crosses our desks that makes us sit quietly delighted--except for a few squeaks of unmitigated joy--and this oversized, energized, stylized, highly prized book of fables is one of them. Jon Scieszka has a simple philosophy of the fable: "If you can't say something nice about someone, change the guy's name to Donkey or Squid." After all, the alleged Aesop did it. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Silly Morals
This book has beautiful pictures. The situations are ones that kids can relate to - and offer an opportunity for kids to learn some appropriate behaviors in difficult situations. Then they follow it up with a moral that is pointless.I am disappointed in the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't say something nice about someone?Make them a squid
Those of us who remember Jon Sciezka and Lane Smith as the author and illustrator of "The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs!" will know exactly what they are getting into when they pick up "Squids Will Be Squids: Fresh Morals, Beastly Fables."The thesis here is that even before Aesop a legion of storytellers have told stories about annoying, weird, pain-in-the-neck people, turned them into animals, added a moral, and thereby changed rude gossip and bad jokes into fables. The idea here is present a collection of fables that Aesop might be telling if he was alive today. The moral, according to Sciezka and Smith, is that "If you can't say something nice about someone, change the guy's name to Donkey or Squid."Read more

Their "Stinky Cheese Man" and "Math Curse" and "Science Curse" are wonderful.I find their "Frog Prince" and this book to be a lesser effort.
5-0 out of 5 stars What is art?
What is art? people have been trying to figure this out for centuries.this book introduces the eternal question to children in a fun, silly way, as well as different genres of art and the hilarious pompousness of art critics.the innocent hero just wants to find his friend Art, but everyone keeps showing him new room in the museum.children will appriciate the collage of sparse illustrations and famous art works, as well as the implied commentary about the innocence of children and the silliness of grown-ups.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad Language for Kids 9-12?
It's one thing to name a character "Fulluvit." Get it?
1-0 out of 5 stars Inappropriate Language for a Children's Book
The author of this book seems to have thought it was funny to include a character named "Bullshik" in the story (no, that's not a typo, it is really B-U-L-L-S-H-I-K).In case you think this was inadvertent, Bullshik's co-star is named Fulluvit, which makes it clear that a pun was intended - a pun with coarse language completely inappropriate for any child.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE MOST FANTASTIC BOOK YOU'LL EVER READ!!!!!!
It all starts out with someone I really would call a "Not so Jolly Roger."They have pistols, daggars and lots of cool weapons in this book. (Violent). Something always goes wrong-wich always happens in books-of course.Get this book or I'll be "The not so Jolly Roger."

5-0 out of 5 stars The not so Jolly Roger
I liked The not so Jolly Roger becuase it was a mystery and I love myseries. My favorite part was when Fred was reading a book and Fred got sucked into one of the pages. The not so Jolly roger could be better by taking out the part when a pirate shoots his mates after they got done buring the treasure they found. Iread the story becuase in the first book of the series, it was really interesting,so it made me think The not so Jolly Roger was going to be interesting.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Review of Your Mother was a Neanderthal
I think this book should be rated 5 stars because it's really funny and has a lot of smart remarks. In the story Sam Joe and Fred, in other words the time warp trio travel to the time 40,000 BC.There they meet cavemen and cave women. The problem is that they have to find the magic book to get back to their own time. There they met three cavegirls who took them up to meet their leader Ma.Then Ma locked them up a cave and that's when thier problems started. But they finally escaped by running away when Ma opened the gate. After awhile they met cavemen and their leader Ug.Then Ug showed them maggot infested meat. When Sam Joe and Fred tried to get out of the smelly hole in the ground Ug pulled them down and said no caw. That's when they saw a sabre tooth tiger and they came up with an idea. They dressed like a really ugly monster and scared the tiger off. Then they went back to the cave and found the book. They used the book to go back home.
4-0 out of 5 stars Mostly entertaining
Overall, this was a pretty good book, but it doesn't match Knights of the Kitchen Table and Sam Samurie for Time Warp Trio fun. While it was entertaining to watch them run from the girls, hide from the sabertooth, etc., it was hard to believe that they were in any danger. The dialogue was often witty, but the plot a little thin which took away from the adventure. If you've read the other Time Warp Trio books, then you should read this one, but if you've never enjoyed the adventures of Fred, Sam and Joe you should try one of the better ones first.Read more
