3-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Halloween
Arthur's Halloween is about Arthur who is afraid of pretty much everything. When Halloween comes, he is told he has to take his sister. When trick or treating the two get lost behind and D.W. goes in the so-called Witch House, and Arthur has to go get her. The book teaches that you shouldn't judge somebody by what other people tell you. This book is good for kids 4-8. I thought it was an ok book.

4-0 out of 5 stars entertaining offering from Arthur

5-0 out of 5 stars Sabuda--GENIUS !
After seeing a TV segment on Mr. Sabuda, I purchased this book, and there is only one word,..WOW !Well, maybe two words,..also GENIUS ! His work is just amazing, and more for adults because of the ability needed to appreciate.
5-0 out of 5 stars simply fabulous
my mom got me this book for christmas last year.now i don't collect pop-ups nor am i young enough to still be receiving such gifts, but i was thrilled when i saw what robert sabuda had done with one of my favorite books.it's amazing how meticulous and detailed each and every one of the illustrations is.he really brings to life what i remember reading dozens of times over.not only are is his work artistically impressive, it remains true to the original work.now whenever i have to buy a book for cousin or niece or nephew i buy them this book, so that they can remain as enthralled as i am. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great series
Great series for young and old looking for a mental shut-down for bed book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps the best Redwall novel: engrossing, wonderful characters, an exciting read. Highly recommended.
The second book in the Redwall series, Mossflower provides much of the backstory for the first novel, Redwall, recording Martin the Warrior's time spent in Mossflower wood and his battle to free the natives from the tyrannical rule of Tsarmina the wildcat. Martin arrives as a stranger to Mossflower, but is soon imprisoned by Tsarmina. The wildcat breaks the sword of his father, and he vows to take her life. After his subsequent escape with the help of his friend Gonff and the animals of Mossflower wood, Martin sets out on a journey of riddle solving, traveling, capture, and escape in order to restore his father's sword to its glory, kill Tsarmina and destroy her castle Kotir, and bring freedom and peace to the inhabitants of Mossflower. This text shows remarkable improvement, both in style and in setting, from Redwall and even now remains one of the best books in the series. Martin is a true hero and an enjoyable protagonist, both supporting characters and villains are well-developed and interesting to read, Martin's jorney provides our first glimpse of Salamandastron, and the book provides much backstory to Redwall and creates a prime jumping off point for the many, many sequels and prequels that follow. This is one of my favorite Redwall books to reread, and I very highly recommend it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Mossflower, the very best of Brian Jacques
I think this is a thrilling adventure of Martin the Warrior and his new best friend Gonff. As they go questing with friends that they meet on the way, Log-log, and Denny, they crash their boat and wake up in a bat cave. They also get trapped in a frog cave and end up helping an eel.During the whole book, Martin is thinking about the oath he made to Tsarmina and how he would complete it.I think this book is great, but to really get the thrill, you need to listen to the audio version. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Jesse Smoke was a real boy.
Through the eyes of a young man, we were able to see the tragedy that the Andrew Jackson administration orchestrated in behalf of the Cherokee nation as well as many other Southeastern Indian tribes. We were able to feel the hurt and know the injustice of a peaceful people uprooted and driven, in the dead of winter, to a reservation in what is now Oklahoma. We were able to feel the hopes and dreams of a boy and a people shattered by greed, politics and military might. This is a classic which should be in every school library in the country. Yes, I have that drop ofblood in my veins that makes me a bona fide Cherokee. I am proud that the legend of a proud, industrious, creative people still remains in our hearts.

If you like historical fiction, then I think you should read The Journal of Jesse Smoke because it was very exciting. It was exciting when the soldiers came to take all the Cherokee and Creeke Indians.I thought that was interesting because then a white man came trying to steal the house when a soilder beat up.Then, they went to a lot of forts. Many died. The Cherokee and Creeke Indians called that journey the Trail of Tears.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Please reconsider
While I appreciate that this is a popular series, as an elementary educator from Hawai'i I would like Amazon customers to consider not buying this particular installment of the Tree House books. It perpetuates the most ridiculous stereotypes of Hawai'i and Hawaiians. It makes Native Hawaiians out to be ignorant and indebted to a boy for his superior knowledge -- this is simply a repetition of the old story that Pacific Islanders needed to be saved by the West.At the risk of being cynical, how about a book that explains how the kids did not save Native Hawaiians from the near genocide that followed contact with the West? There are many good books for kids set in Hawai'i, written by people who know the Islands, its history and traditions. Please look for books like these -- The Fish and Its Gifts/Na Makana a Na I'a, Bon Dance in Hawai'i, To Find the Way, or Mr. Miyataki's Wonderful Machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun and educational
My seven year old loves reading these books over and over again. While she is enjoying the books, she is learning about different places and times in history. She's learned about the Amazon, the wild west, hawaii, the civil and revolutionary wars, the middle ages, ocean mammals, and so much more. I highly recommend the whole series.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wonderful Adventures of Jack and Annie
This book would be a good choice for people like my friend Lily, who are interested in magic and exploring different times. The Magic Tree House books can go back to times when the dinosaurs ran around and I think there was one when slavery was going on in America. In this book, the characters went to Hawaii and Jack and Annie learned about the huge waves there.Read more

Editorial Review

Elyon is a land of dark hills, enchanted forests, and great walls that connect and encircle the cities of Lathbury, Turlock, Lunenburg, and Bridewell like spokes in a wagon wheel. On her annual summer trips to Bridewell with her father, the mayor of Lathbury, Alexa Daley spends much of her time dreaming of escape. Having lived within the walls all of her 12 years, she wants nothing more than to explore the uncharted wilderness beyond. But, the walls are heavily guarded, and frightening legends suggest that forests and hills are no place for a child--especially a young girl. When a mysterious conversation and an unfortunate accident put Alexa within reach of a way outside the wall, she must decide--heed the warnings of her elders, or satisfy her curiosity and unravel the mysteries of Elyon.

For the most part this book was an enjoyable read.Patrick Carman wrote some funny parts and some enjoyable scenes, however there were too many long-winded moments that made the book too slow.It seemed to take forever for the plot to actually kick into gear.

When i first saw this book i was mezmorized by the detailed cover. The beginning of the book was really slow and I wanted to stop and read a different book but my teacher encouraged me to keep going. Towards the middle of the book it got much better and I was glad that my teacher wouldn't let me switch books. It was an overall good book but it wasn't the best I have ever read.

Lemony Snicket's popular A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS continues with more miserable adventures for the Baudelaire orphans. In THE MISERABLE MILL,the children are sent to the dull town of Paltryville to work in the gloomy "Lucky Smells Lumbermill".In the next volume,THE AUSTERE ACADEMY,the Baudelaires attend the dreary "Prufrok Prepatory School" run by the dimwitted, meanspirited vice principal Nero.In the sixth episode, the Baudelaires are sent to their distant relatives, Jeremy and Esme Squalor, to live in their oversized penthouse.Lemony Snicket continues his mysterious references to his lost love Beatrice, humorous definitions of words and an ability to make young readers sympathize with the Baudelaire orphans.

The Miserable Mill: As soon as the children get their new home, they get a bad feeling since one of the buildings has same symbol as Olaf's eye tattoo on it. The 3 children are then forced to work by their new caregiver at his Mill. He is always smoking so all they ever see is smoke covering his face. He says he made a deal with Mr. Poe that if they worked there he'd let them stay there until Violet is 18 and gets the fortune their parents left. It's a horrible place where their boss calls them midgets, they get paid with coupons and get nothing but bubble gum for lunch.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book
I read The Magic Treehouse # 15: Viking Ships at Sunrise. This book is very good. Whenever Jack and Annie want to visit a place, they point to a picture and say, "I wish to go there." Morgan sent Jack and Annie to Ireland to solve a mystery. They had many adventures. The most exciting part of the book was when the serpent rose out of the water.

I think you should buy this book because Mary Pope Osborne has great illustrations in this book. The book is about Jack and Annie. The story is set to Ireland a long time ago and they gt in truble with some vikings. You have to read the book to find out what happens.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I've read
I read the book Tonight on the Titanic.Jack and Annie went to the treehouse and met a dog that they named Teddy. They needed four presents to free him from a spell. They warped to the Titanic and there they got the first present just by being themselves.Soon they heard the Titanic scrape something. They soon find out it's an iceberg.Nobody thought the Titanic was sinking at first, and Jack and Annie tried to save people because they knew it was sinking because they had traveled back in time. They saved a big sister and a little brother who later gave them the first present for saving their lives.I liked and recomend this book for three reasons. 1.It gives information about the Titanic. 2.They tried to save peoples' lives. 3.It's exiting and adventorous. It's great and I'd recomend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tonight on the Titanic
I read the book Tonight on the Titanic. This book is exciting. The story took place on the ship Titanic. The ship hit an iceberg and it was sinking. Jack and Annie helped rescue people.I learned some interesting facts. There was not enough life boats to save everyone. There was many people on the ship, And the Titanic was supposed to be unsinkable but it was not. I would recommend this book because it was exciting, interesting and had good characters. Tonight on the Titanic is a exciting book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not sad at all - a wonderful book.
This book, like others in the Magic Tree House series, has Jack and Annie traveling through time and space. This time they arrive on the doomed Titanic hours before it sinks. In a letter to readers, Mary Pope Osborne acknowledges that she avoided this very scenario despite readers requests simply because she feared it would be too sad. She finally came to the conclusion that Jack and Annie may be able to help in the midst of the tragedy. And help they do, but not just aboard the ship.

5-0 out of 5 stars War Games
Another exciting installment in this series from the outrageously creative and slightly warped mind of Garth Nix, where Lord Arthur, Rightful Heir of the Architect etc. etc. finds himself drafted into the Glorious Army of the Architect under the command of the highly strung Sir Thursday.Starting at the bottom, Arthur changes his name to Ray, and undergoes basic training in weaponry and warfare before being led off to battle.
5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful
I love his books (sabriel...) i've read all his books so far they are wonderful. LOVE IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars A truly life changing experience
Sir Thursday is a great adventure book.It has many battles with Nithlings a type of creature made of "nothing". A type of liquidy material that can be enriched into almost anything you want it to and is hazardous to the touch. Arthur Penhaligon was a normal boy until about noon on Monday when he found the key to the lower reaches then was cast into the house a secondary realm. The will (an item that is very wise and was made by the architect) has chosen Arthur to be the rightful heir to the throne. TheArchitect is the God of the house and made everything. She had two sons Superior Sundayand the Piper.Sunday betrayed Piper with his minion Saturday when they threw him into nothing. He should have died but he didn't and no one knows why. But if you like action books with great plots you should buy this book because it has both.

4-0 out of 5 stars Knock knock knocking on Narnia's door
The third book in the Land of Elyon series hits you over the head with religious symbolism, and if you've read the excellent Narnia series, you'll easily see that Carman is also a big fan of C.S. Lewis.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Series:A Must Read
My daughter & I just completed the triology and we're sad that Alexa's adventures are over.Imagine being able to converse with animals! The character formation, symbolism, foreshadowing and intricate story line provide a memorable series that is definitely worth reading. In fact, having just finished the final book, my daughter reached for the first book and reread the beginning chapter. Amazingly tight story line.A must read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great book
Alexa is on the journey of her life. It is up to her to rescue Yipes, defeat Grindall, and most important save the Land of Elyon. People she loves are in grave danger and maybe someone she knows is betraying her. A great last book and full of twists [sure to surprise you] at the end. I am eleven and I love the Land of Elyon books. It makes me sad that this is the last book. ... Read more
