5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for kids and adults
I used this book as night time story to my 9 yr old son who hates to read. He loved it and so did I! I could not keep my word of reading only one chapter per night, because I wanted to know what happened next!!! Kids love pee-poop-underwear stories and I am sure this one will get my son to enjoy reading more than today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teacher's Grade:A+
In my dozen years of teaching 2nd grade, there has never been a better book for motivating reluctant boy readers to read than this one.Pilkey's humorous story and illustrations compel the reluctant readers to keep going, and turn the page to see what happens next. The story is delightfully zany and full of humor that is geared for kids. The great thing about Pilkey's writing is that there's also humor geared toward adults that the kids won't have any idea is there!
5-0 out of 5 stars Hey, I can't be 100% serious all the time!
The "Captain Underpants" series is some of the funniest stuff I have ever seen.CU is a superhero that exists in the mind of his creators, fourth grade best friends and pranksters George and Harold, and he's their principal who gets transformed whenever he heard the phrase "Tra-La-La", which probably brings unbridled joy to elementary school principals all over the nation.rotlmao

5-0 out of 5 stars Geronimo!
These books are very short, but very interesting.I have a 10 year old son who's an advanced reader, yet he's tender enough to get all wrapped up in the Geronimo Stilton books. He loves them, they're a great buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The search for sunken treasure
I can't believe how many adventures Geronimo goes on. Can you? 26! And #25 is the best. I've read them all, and THE SEARCH FOR SUNKEN TREASURE is so good, I finished it 1 and a half hours after buying it. I just couldn't put it down! I rate it 5 stars. I highly recommend it for you. It's not just 5 stars --- it's 100% AWESOME!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read!
A Night in Terror Tower is an amazing little book. With only 129 pages it is more than able to draw in a reader and fuel the imagination long after completion. The story is about two young children in London. They take a tour to the Terror Tower in London. The tour turns sour when they lose their guide and are hunted by the mysterious man in the black cape. The children are suffering from memory loss and nothing seems to be going their way! When the man in the black cape catches them the story takes a major twist, the kids are now in the past! This story is excellent for younger readers and will keep them turning pages for hours.I would recommend this book for anyone ages 8-12, but even adults could enjoy this as a quick night read! The graphic settings and bone chilling details to R. L. Stines books really keep you involved. The story is filled with humor, horror, drama, and action that won't let you sit anywhere but the edge of your seat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Version of the Brilliant Classic Out There!
I'm in my late 30's and I've read this in full for the first time recently and I have to say that this is one of the best books ever written.I can see why this is listed among the top 100 novels since the 1920s by Time Magazine.Unlike many books for children, Lewis never dumbs down or talks down to his intended audience which means even the adult can fully appreciate the genius of his great story-telling and allegory.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sardonic, Interesting and Profound Reading
This novel is written rather sardonically but is captivating enough to keep the reader enthralled. It is actually very enchanting. The reader may also want to do some technical research on many of the absurdities it describes and uses. Significantly the reader should never fail to remember that this is a work of fiction but skillfully written. Its allegorical storyline is profound just the same ... Read more

Editorial Review

For many of us, the adventures of Dorothy in Oz will forever be associated not with Judy Garland singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" but with W. W. Denslow's exceedingly odd line drawings for the original editions of Baum's Oz series. The Viennese artist Lisbeth Zwerger, however, goes a long way toward providing a new and refreshed set of images for the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the humbug wizard. These illustrations are often cockeyed, with occasional realistic details thrown in, like a crow with a corncob in its beak in the first portrait of the Scarecrow. The characters have a poignance and oddity that escaped the makers of the Oz movie. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful "Wizard of Oz"
I was a reasonably big fan of the "Wizard of Oz" when I was a kid. I'd seen the Judy Garland film, the "Return to Oz" film, my parents had taken me to a theatre production, and there used to be a cartoon series about Dorothy and her friends that I quite liked. Here in Australia, though, you don't see an awful lot of the Wizard of Oz books, and I missed out on all that as a kid. I managed to find a copy just recently of the the original story, and I really liked it. It's really a shame I couldn't find it earlier.
5-0 out of 5 stars For Before or After "Wicked" (The Broadway Play)
The Wizard of Oz--Still a classic, though some of us may have escaped our youth without actually reading the book. The play "Wicked" whets one's appetite for the original story, and this little classic is well done...Quick and easy to read, good type face and good leading between the lines (something we didn't worry about in our youth). There may be other, better illustrated editions, but this one gets the job done and gets it done very nicely if you want to re-read or remember something we should remember from our youth--the book, not the movie!!Suggest reading it after seeing "Wicked"...That allows more creative license in the play, thus more enjoyment and capitivation with that story rather than continually comparing it to the original Oz.
5-0 out of 5 stars After All These Years
I have to admit, until this year I didn't care much for the Wizard of Oz. It was my wife's favorite movie (and she even has checks with Oz scenes onthem), but it never was "fantasy" enough for me. I had been an avid modern fantasy/sci-fi reader until this year when I started reading classics like the Hobbit, the Chronicles of Narnia, and ultimately I picked up the Wizard of Oz.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed
Since this series is so popular, my eight-year-old asked to get some from the library, so we checked out a few. I picked up this one, book #8, and read through it. The writing was extremely poor. I counted the statement, "Morgan nodded," six times in three pages, even though each page has very few words. Can't the author or an editor see such a glaring flaw? And there were many more flaws, extremely contrived dialogue being the worst offender.
1-0 out of 5 stars insipid stuff--too bad there's little else for early readers
The only possible virtue of this book, the first and only one of the series we've encountered, is that it's perhaps light enough to encourage little ones to read for themselves.I agree completely with the reviewer who pointed out that the author seems to know little about history, science, or the English language; I'd add to that list logic. The heroine Annie is an airhead, though she's portrayed as the one who seizes the initiative; her favorite word is "Wow."Her brother Jack, though far more prudent, is forever saying "Oh, man."This is junk food, with empty mental calories.I'm sure that parents can do better and not have to settle for this dreck.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book..
In whic Jack and Annie go forward in time and explore the moon in a moonbuggy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Glorious Conclusion
As all things end, so does Tolkien's revered Ring trilogy. In this concluding volume, the surviving Company, minus Sam and Frodo, reunite to make a last stand against the inhuman darkness which has ushered forth from Mordor to swallow the world. Gandalf, resurrected now as the White Wizard, rallies the combined armies of Rohan and Gondor, Aragorn reveals his true nature and is proclaimed the returned king, and beneath the searching eye of the Evil One, a pair of lowly hobbits, exhausted and nearly out of hope, continue on toward a fateful rendezvous in the infernal core of Mt. Doom. Heroism, loyalty, courage, and determined resistance to the powers of oppression are all themes triumphantly proclaimed in this novel, and there are scenes inside The Return of the King which stand so memorable they endure in the brain throughout a reader's lifetime. Many writers would be unable to end such a monumental series on a note of triumph, but somehow J.R.R. Tolkien achieves the nearly impossible and herein delivers his best work of all.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Return Of The King
Excellently done and entertaining.Prompt delivery and easily found.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Return of the King

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Captain Underpants Novel
Captain Underpants is a great epic novel series by Dav Pilkey. With his new book Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking toilets we discover his power against talking, eating, mad toilets. He uses cafeteria food and his underware. This book also has more flip-o-ramas than ever. The flip-o-ramas are filled with even more juicy underware fighting.Captain Underpants beats the talking toilets with underware and his extreme power.
4-0 out of 5 stars Silly as it gets
My eight-year-old loves this book, and I think it's hilarious myself. If fighting vicious toilets using underwear and cafeteria food sounds funny to you, you'll love this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Edge Chronicles fan
I love the Edge Chronicles. So far this is the best. At first Twig was messing things up on the sky ship but when he became captain he triedto get through the cruel Twilight Woods and made it out into the Mire. He found ScreedToeTaker and found out who the real stone pilot really is.Finally, he finds out that Screed owns a sky ship. It's the best because it has action and adventure and it uncovers lots of secrets.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most memorable, but also most brutally violent book in the series
Book 2 is where the Edge Chronicles really takes off.The sky pirate adventures finally begin after the rough start of the first book. Before going any further, potential readers should be warned that this is by far the most disturbing book in the Edge Chronicles. In fact, I have not read many children's books that contain such extreme levels of carnage.Just a few of the topics touched upon in this book are death (don't get too attached to many of the characters), torture, maiming, and a serial killer who takes and displays certain body parts of his victims. At times you get the feeling that the author enjoys tormenting his characters, but I guess it just drives home the point that the Edge is a dangerous place.
5-0 out of 5 stars Crazy For Chronicles
Have you ever wanted to read a book chock full of adventure? Then the Edge Chronicles #2 is good for you.I love this book because there is sooo much adventure in this book.I also love this book because it is in the medieval/futuristic time. Finally I love this book because it has a semi happy ending at the end of this adventures story. That is why I think this is a good book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My 7 year old loves this book
This story is set in 1864 during the Civil War.The book prompted discussions about race, slavery, the Civil War and life during that time, prejudice behavior, the privledges we take for granted and inner strength. We first read about slavery in Kaya, which my daughter also loved. My daughter talks about the characters (Addy, Kaya, Samantha and others) as though they are part of our extended family. She has set a goal to read all of the American Girl books and is well on her way there.

The Magicians Nephew was all about magic. Theirs these rings that Digory's (the main characater)uncle made. They transport you to other worlds. They fight and all end up in Narnia by touching the rings.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Magician's Nephew
I loved the book The Magician's Nephew. I loved the book because it was hard to put down. In class I would never want to stop reading. The book was sort of like a mystery. You would suspect one thing and the total opposite would happen. The last 2-3 chapters are the best. If you are looking for an easy read then you will love this book. The book is hard to follow in parts and you really need to think about what is happening.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Bold Beginning
While "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" was published first, it's "The Magician's Nephew" that truly starts off the Chronicles of Narnia. In this book, you'll learn about how Jadis first came to Narnia and what the Professor had to do with it.You'll learn about the lamppost, about why the wardrobe acts as a portal between worlds, and you'll get to watch the founding of C.S. Lewis's magical land. It's fun, engaging, and a great start to the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fast Read
I rarely find a book that I don't want to put down. The Magician's Nephew was such a book. The story moves along quickly, and is written in an easy to read style that doesn't bog down your mind with details, but rather opens your mind and allows it to fill in the details.

This is a very good book for children. It contains a lot of great information about Ancient Egypt.I read another review by a reader who was offended by the thought that the Pyramids weren't built by slaves. This was obviously a surprise to him but I had heard it elsewhere so it was no news to me.There were slaves in Egypt and I'm sure they were badly used in other jobs. They could have also been used to help build the pyramids, I doubt we will ever know exactly. This is a good book and no reader should pass it up over one shocked review. There's plenty of good information here and it is very interesting. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I Loved them as a Child
When I was a little girl, I would take my Kirsten Collection home from the library and read them over and over again. I adored them. Kirsten was such a spunky, loveable character, and I eventually grew up to love historical fiction. The short but sweet series is all about a young, Sweedish immigrant girl, Kirsten Larson, and her family.
4-0 out of 5 stars Too Bad They Didn't Have These When I Was Younger
One of two American Girls books I've read and probably the more enjoyable of the pair. I liked the descriptions of the raw, open country of Minnesota, and how the family faces it after a long journey from Sweden. This series can teach a lot about history and life in other times, and it also serves up some lessons in an admirably non-preachy manner. Kirsten was spunky and I hope readers noticed how hard children in the past worked compared to today. There wasn't always a lot of free time and people then were more appreciative of what they had. I like the American Girls book series (the endless merchandising of its themed products notwithstanding) and hope it stays popular for a long time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kirsten is a good character, but not one of the best
In the Kirsten boxed set, you will read six books about Kirsten Larson, a pioneer girl growing up in 1854.In "Meet Kirsten" Kirsten and her family are coming to America.Kirsten is one of the few characters in the American Girls Collection that stays the same. All the other characters change in some way, but I did not see this in the Kirsten books. The next five books in the boxed set show how Kirsten and her family try to combine Swedish and American traditions. In "Kirsten Learns A Lesson"Kirsten has difficulty with school and meets an Indian girl named Singing Bird.In "Kirsten's Surprise"Kirsten tries to keep some of the Larsons' Swedish traditions alive by planning a secret Saint Lucia celebration with her cousins. In "Happy Birthday, Kirsten!" Kirsten does extra chores after her mom has a baby, and then gets a special birthday party. In "Kirsten Saves the Day" Kirsten finds treasure in the woods and nearly gets herself and her brother killed when she tries to bring the treasure home.In "Changes for Kirsten" Kirsten's family loses thier home to a fire and must find a way to get a new one. The Kirsten books are good. When I was younger, "Changes for Kirsten" was my favorite of Kirsten's stories. When I went back and read it again later on, as a teen, I discovered something. In the story, the Larsons lose their house--but that is because Kirsten disobeys her mother and brings an injured raccoon in the Larson's cabin, knowing full well the mischeif they are capable of. To date, I can't pinpoint which of the Kirsten books is a favorite, but I know that "Changes for Kirsten" is not one of them. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Watch out ! Reading Level Deflated
A fourth grade teacher used this book in her class for guided reading/literature circle, based on the age range listed. As a special educator in the classroom, I quickly became concerned for the vast majority of the class who did not grasp 80% of the book. The author requires the reader to draw many inferences, a difficult task for nine to ten-year olds. There is a great deal of historical period vocabulary and prior knowledge of the Revolutionary War and colonialism that needs to be pre-taught for anyone under sixth grade to comprehend, especially as the curriculum standards don't introduce the American Revolution until fifth grade.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Journal of William Thomas Emerson, A Revolutionary War Patriot
I used this book for a literature circle group. Before reading you need to do a lot of background building about the conflicts between the British and the colonist that lead up to the revolutionary war. Lots of unfamiliar vocabulary. Good for very experienced readers. Less experienced readers will need more support. Very enjoyable reading and the students are learning a lot about the revolutionary war and colonial era

2-0 out of 5 stars Journal of William Thomas Emerson
Can you imagine being a 14 year old boy and a orphan during the revolutionary war patriot in Boston, Massachusetts, 1774?

Editorial Review

The sixth "epic novel" in Dav Pilkey's hugely popular series explainsthe awful truth about Captain Underpants (he is really the schoolprincipal), details "the night of the nasty nostril nuggets," offers up"the unnecessarily disgusting chapter," and even explains how "you can'thave your cape and Edith, too." 4-0 out of 5 stars Captain Underpants Review
Captain Underpants is about two boys who play pranks and write comics. These comics include a character named Captain Underpants. The principal at the school the boys attend confiscate the comics while they were working on them in class. Then the boys somehow hypnotize him into believing he was the character Captain Underpants. The principal ends up saving the boys in there many adventures such as the fights against Bionic Booger Boy, Wicked Wedgie Woman, Professor Poopy Pants, and many more.
4-0 out of 5 stars Captain Underpants: the Truth
Melvin Sneedly looks too much like some character in the SpongeBob episode "I'm your biggest fan." If Melvin Sneedly were a Hamtaro caracter, he would be Dexter.
