5-0 out of 5 stars Harry Rocks
These are truly a wonderful grouping of books that everyone should read if not own. I loved the movies and couldn't keep waiting to find out what happens, so bought the books. Read them all 1-6 in about 6 days...just couldn't put them down. Lighthearted reading that is enjoyable.

3-0 out of 5 stars Magical
She envisioned a seven-part series, each part of which was knocking on 800 pages. That was a serious bit of world building right there. Then, she wrote the first book, a whopping multi-page monster I haven't read yet. So let's just admire her for making an effort of that magnitude.

3-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Halloween
Arthur's Halloween is about Arthur who is afraid of pretty much everything. When Halloween comes, he is told he has to take his sister. When trick or treating the two get lost behind and D.W. goes in the so-called Witch House, and Arthur has to go get her. The book teaches that you shouldn't judge somebody by what other people tell you. This book is good for kids 4-8. I thought it was an ok book.

4-0 out of 5 stars entertaining offering from Arthur

Editorial Review

When Christopher Robin asks Pooh what he likes doing best in the world, Pooh says, after much thought, "What I like best in the whole world is Me and Piglet going to see You, and You saying 'What about a little something?' and Me saying, 'Well, I shouldn't mind a little something, should you, Piglet,' and it being a hummy sort of day outside, and birds singing."Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Winning Book
The tales are lovable, enjoyable and moving, and perhaps the most important thing is that although written for kids, we adults can reflect on the way we live our daily lives. We live through the pages the feelings of all characters fear, amazement, joy, kindness, self-inflicted misery, competitiveness, good times, and most of all, positiveness and passion to enjoy and nature true friendship. We have these feelings and emotions as human beings. There are Rabbits, and Tiggers and Owls and Piglets all around us and we can barely seem to recognize them in our friends or the people we communicate with every day. Illustrations are gorgeous,an outstanding vision of life.

Who doesn't love Winnie The Pooh? Don't answer that. This is an excellent and charming book to use for bedtime stories for children. I grew up with it and I still love it! It endears the simplicity of life and love...and honey.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Whole Family Loves This Book
This story is delightful. We bought it because we were taking our 2.5 yr old along on a ski trip and wanted him to have a silly little story that related to the mountain and skiing (even though he's not on skis yet).Well, it is just that... and more. He's learned a lot, developed an interest in skiing (maybe next year) and always gets a good laugh out of this book! It's also fun that George seems to invent snowboarding - my husband and I got a big kick out of that and have shared the story with many adult friends (isn't everyone a Curious Geroge fan?)!

I have a 3 year old daughter that LOVES this series. The art is very "old" -but in a good way.She likes the story "The Shivers" most of all.You can't beat this series for the price, or the lessons learned.

4-0 out of 5 stars Review by Alaisiah P.S. 39 and Michael P.S. 39
You should read Frog and Toad because they can teach kids a lot of lessons. For example, if you are a kid and you want to learn to be nice to a friend then Days with Frog and Toad is a really good book for you. You'll also learn that sometimes friends aren't nice to each other. So, if you're the kind of reader who wants to learn about relationships then this is a book for you to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great series
Great series for young and old looking for a mental shut-down for bed book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps the best Redwall novel: engrossing, wonderful characters, an exciting read. Highly recommended.
The second book in the Redwall series, Mossflower provides much of the backstory for the first novel, Redwall, recording Martin the Warrior's time spent in Mossflower wood and his battle to free the natives from the tyrannical rule of Tsarmina the wildcat. Martin arrives as a stranger to Mossflower, but is soon imprisoned by Tsarmina. The wildcat breaks the sword of his father, and he vows to take her life. After his subsequent escape with the help of his friend Gonff and the animals of Mossflower wood, Martin sets out on a journey of riddle solving, traveling, capture, and escape in order to restore his father's sword to its glory, kill Tsarmina and destroy her castle Kotir, and bring freedom and peace to the inhabitants of Mossflower. This text shows remarkable improvement, both in style and in setting, from Redwall and even now remains one of the best books in the series. Martin is a true hero and an enjoyable protagonist, both supporting characters and villains are well-developed and interesting to read, Martin's jorney provides our first glimpse of Salamandastron, and the book provides much backstory to Redwall and creates a prime jumping off point for the many, many sequels and prequels that follow. This is one of my favorite Redwall books to reread, and I very highly recommend it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Mossflower, the very best of Brian Jacques
I think this is a thrilling adventure of Martin the Warrior and his new best friend Gonff. As they go questing with friends that they meet on the way, Log-log, and Denny, they crash their boat and wake up in a bat cave. They also get trapped in a frog cave and end up helping an eel.During the whole book, Martin is thinking about the oath he made to Tsarmina and how he would complete it.I think this book is great, but to really get the thrill, you need to listen to the audio version. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars wonderfully evocative book to share with your child
This is such an enchanting book to read to a child! The illustrations (realistic in style) are beautiful and the text is lyrical, reflecting the mood of the season perfectly. My son loves this book and I love reading it to him. The pictures and story remind us both of the family gatherings that are so much a part of November and December. We read many books together and this is one of our lasting favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book by a wonderful author
My children and I love anything written by Cynthia Rylant, but this book has the added benefit of the most beautiful illustrations.I cannot say enough about how much I love this book.It is something we will pull out every November - probably even after the children are grown! If your children love your family traditions and are comforted by knowing what to expect with each season or holiday, this book is a must for them. You could probably get it from the library every fall, but the illustrations make it worth putting on your shelf with your favorites and keeping for your grandkids.

5-0 out of 5 stars In November
Cynthia Ryland does it again!A wonderful book for use with teaching metaphors. Her descriptive words gives visual meaning to each sentence.A wonderful book to use with six traits writing "Voice" and teaching inference to young children. Each page is filled with words to ponder, reflect, relate and to write about.Although there is no reference to Thanksgiving, many children relate to the special day and time with relatives.A perfect book for November and a perfect title. The illustrations are beautiful; giving a feeling of warmth to the words.Every teacher should own a copy. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Jesse Smoke was a real boy.
Through the eyes of a young man, we were able to see the tragedy that the Andrew Jackson administration orchestrated in behalf of the Cherokee nation as well as many other Southeastern Indian tribes. We were able to feel the hurt and know the injustice of a peaceful people uprooted and driven, in the dead of winter, to a reservation in what is now Oklahoma. We were able to feel the hopes and dreams of a boy and a people shattered by greed, politics and military might. This is a classic which should be in every school library in the country. Yes, I have that drop ofblood in my veins that makes me a bona fide Cherokee. I am proud that the legend of a proud, industrious, creative people still remains in our hearts.

We "got" Eloise as soon as we read the first page.My daughters, 4 and 6 love, love, love Eloise. They love her antics and can visualize the trouble she gets into so innocently (or not).Eloise is curious, inventive, creative, sleuthy, and definitely oblivious. We travel a lot so my kids can relate to being in a hotel.Eloise lives in a hotel so there are lots of opportunities to involve others (other guests, employees, restaurant staff, telephone operators, etc.) in her wicked (hilarious) fun. After we read Eloise for the first time (and we love the Essential Eloise the best, then Paris) we could not wait until the next night to read some more.

While I appreciate that this is a popular series, as an elementary educator from Hawai'i I would like Amazon customers to consider not buying this particular installment of the Tree House books. It perpetuates the most ridiculous stereotypes of Hawai'i and Hawaiians. It makes Native Hawaiians out to be ignorant and indebted to a boy for his superior knowledge -- this is simply a repetition of the old story that Pacific Islanders needed to be saved by the West.At the risk of being cynical, how about a book that explains how the kids did not save Native Hawaiians from the near genocide that followed contact with the West? There are many good books for kids set in Hawai'i, written by people who know the Islands, its history and traditions. Please look for books like these -- The Fish and Its Gifts/Na Makana a Na I'a, Bon Dance in Hawai'i, To Find the Way, or Mr. Miyataki's Wonderful Machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun and educational
My seven year old loves reading these books over and over again. While she is enjoying the books, she is learning about different places and times in history. She's learned about the Amazon, the wild west, hawaii, the civil and revolutionary wars, the middle ages, ocean mammals, and so much more. I highly recommend the whole series.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wonderful Adventures of Jack and Annie
This book would be a good choice for people like my friend Lily, who are interested in magic and exploring different times. The Magic Tree House books can go back to times when the dinosaurs ran around and I think there was one when slavery was going on in America. In this book, the characters went to Hawaii and Jack and Annie learned about the huge waves there.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pull Up a Chair
This is a wonderful story with delightful illustrations about a young boy who is feeling displaced because he has a baby sister on the way.He is upset to see his old layette painted pink for baby Susie and his infant toys passed down to her.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of Ezra Jack Keats Best Books
I don't know what ken32 is talking about but Peter's Chair has nothing to do with gender difference. It is about a boy, Peter, who is disgruntled at the change that is occuring around the house for his new baby sister Susie. Peter sees that his baby items are being painted over in pink, which is the color that will identify if the baby is going to be a girl. Babies don't care what color their furniture is.
5-0 out of 5 stars We Loved This Story!
This story is about Peter who has a new baby sister. He is very jealous and doesn't want to share his things. Peter finally gives her his old chair that is too small for him. We liked this story because Peter learns to be a good big brother. You should read this story because the pictures are really nice. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Elyon is a land of dark hills, enchanted forests, and great walls that connect and encircle the cities of Lathbury, Turlock, Lunenburg, and Bridewell like spokes in a wagon wheel. On her annual summer trips to Bridewell with her father, the mayor of Lathbury, Alexa Daley spends much of her time dreaming of escape. Having lived within the walls all of her 12 years, she wants nothing more than to explore the uncharted wilderness beyond. But, the walls are heavily guarded, and frightening legends suggest that forests and hills are no place for a child--especially a young girl. When a mysterious conversation and an unfortunate accident put Alexa within reach of a way outside the wall, she must decide--heed the warnings of her elders, or satisfy her curiosity and unravel the mysteries of Elyon.

3-0 out of 5 stars confused-some spoiler info
For the most part this book was an enjoyable read.Patrick Carman wrote some funny parts and some enjoyable scenes, however there were too many long-winded moments that made the book too slow.It seemed to take forever for the plot to actually kick into gear.
3-0 out of 5 stars Switch-er-oooo
When i first saw this book i was mezmorized by the detailed cover. The beginning of the book was really slow and I wanted to stop and read a different book but my teacher encouraged me to keep going. Towards the middle of the book it got much better and I was glad that my teacher wouldn't let me switch books. It was an overall good book but it wasn't the best I have ever read.

My 3 year old daughter loves it.It explains the process at a level she can understand.Great when used with the Butterfly Garden.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Butterfly Book for Preschool-Third Grade
I am the director of a lower school (pre-k-2nd) and we have used this book for years. It is the perfect way to introduce children to the wonderful world of metamorphosis. And if you can also actually get the Painted Lady Butterflies and "grow" them in your class, it is an invaluable experience. We have our children keep journals and then buy them each a copy of this great book (it's cheap in paperback) and they get to keep the experience forever. One correction to another review: painted ladies and all butterflies do spin chrysalids, not cocoons. They look similar, but the chrysalis usually has little specks of gold in it, which is where the name comes from. Yes I am a huge fan of this book--and a huge fan of butterflies. This author also has a lovely book about honeybees, called Honeybees.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Book to accompany Butterfly Houses, Pavillions
We got this book in addition to a home "Butterfly Pavillion" by InsectLore. It prepared my son and us for what to expect as the Painted Lady Butterflies were developing through each stage. So even duringthe lulls in the action, we could spark some anticipation. Which heightened the whole process for my 5 year old. Read more
