2-0 out of 5 stars The best guide for single moms (5 stars, even tho I can't edit it to show them!)
I got this book for my son when we got to the point that he had so many questions (technical in nature) that I couldn't remember the exact answer to (or don't know, not being a boy). I turned to my male friends for help, and one recommended "The Guy Book," which he had given to his5 boys and they liked a lot. My son lovedit. It has a lot of info on boys, their bodies, their issues with friends, and such necessary details as how to buy a corsage and tie a tie. My son asked intelligent questions, sparked by the book, and has read bits of it over and over.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Teen Reference book...
I enjoyed this book and I'm a grown man. lol. It presents the information in a very non threatening way for teens and fathers of teens about the "sex" questions. Fun read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Uses Great 50's Car Photos -- A Great Book for Dads to Use
This is "THE BOOK" for Dads to review with their sons. The author successfully uses "car talk" to explain becoming a man.Clever chapter titles include: "Under the Hood: Parts," "The Ignition System: How It All works,""Road Hazards: STD," "Maintenance," etc. I got a kick out of discussing the old retro-car photos with my sons. The funny retro-pictures kept the topic from getting uncomfortable and gave us guys something else to talk about other than sex ... when things got a little too uncomfortable. My sons reread to certain often.Definitely buy ............................................. 5-0 out of 5 stars How You Are Changing
My husband and I have read through the book and feel that this is the place to pick up where previous discussions have ended.Having a biblical basis was very important to us and this book does so wonderfully.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW
This has so much info in it, I am afraid it had a little too much for my 11 year old.She became a bit nervous atsome things I thought she would not.I would not let a child read it alone, as suggested, until a parent has read it first and made sure there is nothing too mature for the individual child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for
I've been searching for just the right book for my 11 year old son and this is one has just the right look and information I wanted for him. Many other books were way too long, some with pages in the hundreds and other books were too immature for his age. This is a great beginner book for covering all of the facts and terms. An 8 yr. old would need help reading it but an 11 yr. old could read it alone. I think it would be fine even for 12-13 who hasn't learned much about reproduction and puberty. The illustrations are simple but accurate, not like some I've seen that are more like from a medical textbook or cartoonish. There is a glossary with pronunciations and definitions. I like that it is Christian and family based. It's everything I was looking for!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, if you are mainstream...
... but if you are planning an out of hospital birth or a birth with midwives, it's not quite as peachy. There is an illustration of mom at the doctor's office getting checked out early on, a reference in the text to her seeing the doc when baby drops, and then she rushes off to the hospital to push and push in the final pages. No room for birth center or homebirth, the midwifery model of care or self-care.4-0 out of 5 stars Good for toddlers
Our 2 1/2 year old loves it.It's the only good book we've found that demonstrates what's going on during the pregnancy, as opposed to when the child is already old enough to play with the sibling.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best book for preparing toddlers
I ordered this book, along with several others, to help prepare my 2-year old daughter for the arrival of her new baby sister. While the illustrations are charming and the text is cute, this book is much better suited for the older child, of the amusement of adults. It simply does not hold my toddler's attention. ... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars All parents should read this book
This was an extremely informative and enlightening book. I bought a copy formy teenage daughter, my teenage son as well as my niece. This book dispells all myths about pregnancy and offers very valuable guidelines on what to do if you find yourself pregnant.
4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good...
If you're a teenager who wants to get pregnant, want to learn more about teens who get pregnant(my reasoning), or have already gotten pregnant, you should read this book.5-0 out of 5 stars This book really helped me!
A year ago, I found out I was pregnant.I was scared stiff.I was only 15 and I didn't have any time or patience to be a mother.I didn't believe in abortion, my parents didn't want me to give it up, and I didn't want tokeep it.I was very confused and I felt like I was alone. Then I readthis book.It really made a difference in my life!I read what othergirls did about their pregnancies and how they felt about their choices. Thanks to this amazing book, I decided to give birth to a beautiful babygirl, and now I know that my daughter Carisse is living with a very nicecouple. She's the baby they always wanted, and none of this would'vehappened if I had never read "Dear Diary, I'm Pregnant-Teenagers TalkAbout Their Pregnancies".Thanks to a great book! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Class
From my perspective as a sexuality educator and sex therapist, I highly recommend The Naked Truth About Sex.It is an ideal book for parents, young people, and anyone who works with young people.Dr. Libby's book is sex positive, straight forward, factual, and accurate. This is the best book that I have read on this topic.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Teens and Twentysomethings
The Naked Truth About Sex serves as a handbook for teens to guide them to make intelligent sexual decisions. Through his book, Dr. Libby relates to teens on a different level. He doesn't use the "abstinence only method/ 'just say no' approach" that teens are used to and tired of hearing and offers safe sexual choices in an honest and sincere tone that allows the reader to trust his advise.
5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Book for Teens
Before reading this book, I was already in a serious 3-year relationship from which learned a lot both beneficial and painful. While reading Dr. Libby's book, I realized that I had tried to have a serious romance (which included a sexual relationship) at too young an age. (I was 15 years old). I will never forget the experience of my first love, but I wish I hadn't been so young and naive.

5-0 out of 5 stars honest and tender
I had this book as a kid in the early 70s, and I loved it. I bought it for my six year old daughter, and it seemed to be a good fit for her. The authors give enough information without being preachy or technical, without stating values other than creating a human baby is a special relationship. I really dig this book, and would recommend it to other open-minded parents.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected
This book was a bit too graphic for our purposes. I'm pregnant, and I wanted a very basic story of where babies come from to read to our 3 year old son. But this book's pictures were just too graphic, including cutaways of a women's uterus and man's sperm entering, showing a man and woman under the covers, animals mounting each other, etc. This would be appropriate for an older child, but the reviews I read made me think it was appropriate now. Well, not for us.

5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect place to start
Oh, my goodness, I can't believe it's still out there.Like another reviewer, I remembered the book with cut-outs that my parents gave to me to read about the "facts of life," more years ago than I care to remember. It is an absolutely wonderful tool for parents attempting to teach their child(ren) about something that is still, in this day and age, a difficult subject. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.
5-0 out of 5 stars great book
This book is simple and to the point! My kids loved it, especially my 6 year old son.It was just enough for him to know at this time.
3-0 out of 5 stars NotFor Kids Who Were Adopted
I do not like this book overall. While it does have age appropriate discussion of sex and pregnancy with a Christian focus, the text is too long in my opinion for a child of the target age to sit and listen. My primary objection is that this book is not appropriate at all for adopted children. The stories are told entirely from the point of view of a birth child. The comments and discussions focus on the idea of children being born into the family, nursing to be fed, and so on.There is a very tiny discussion about all families being "different" and a particular child not looking like his birth parents b/c he was adopted; this plus the strong focus of the text on birth families would alienate a child who was adopted rather than inform him/her.If you are looking for a facts of life book and your child was adopted, do not get this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Resource for Parents!
Whenever the topic of talking about sex and sexuality with our children comes up, I share this title. The book is written for parents (or other adults).Of course it covers sex, but it does also talk about love and relationships and their connection to sex.
5-0 out of 5 stars Highly informative, and definately worth reading!
This book is highly interesting, informative, organized and educational. The title says the book is a guide for parents, however, I found the book to be most rewarding as a Health Education major. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and family friends should even get their hands on this book... you never know what questions may pop up about sex and relationships! The book's goal is to break the uneasiness, and sometimes embarassing or awkward moments of educating your children about life's issues. It was extremely easy to understand and very real to life. The authors themselves have their own family so they talk from their hearts as "real" parents. They cover everything from initiating converstion to sexual development and sexual orientation. The Mirons took great concern considering the different lifestyles, beliefs, and morals of each individual circumstance and family. The book has two sections called, "Try This" & "Just the Facts." They provide alternative ideas to aid in the education process and important statistics parents may not know. The book has very few faults and has better prepared me for when I start to teach. It has greatly boosted my confidence level and I am sure to hold onto the book both as a reference and as guidance. Take a look for yourself, I promise you that it will not be a waste of time! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Compelling and provacative
When first published in 1970, this book was a manifesto for a generation of women. Although it has not been updated since, it demonstrates how farwe've come and what is the next step for women.Uneven style and tone ofwriting give this unquestionable realness not often found in morecontemporary feminist anthologies.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I liked it!
Well, after reading the Amazon reviews, I wasn't sure about this book, but got it anyway.I was pleasantly surprised. No, it's not all about human reproduction (although that is mentioned in there). We have "Where did I come from?" for that, and that does an excellent job. This instead shows how a lot of different animals reproduce and truthfully, I learned some things.Plus, the illustrations were really cute and didn't take long to read.I really liked it and the kids liked it too.

5-0 out of 5 stars 7-8 year olds
I like how this book focused on love and attraction, not just the physical mechanics. It was a good seg way in to adding your own moral thoughts.

2-0 out of 5 stars Confusing & not very informative
I got this book thinking it would actually explain the birds and the bees to my daughter. No such luck.Because it's all in rhyme, it doesn't really make much sense to a small child. And it gives trivia without explaining well how babies are actually made.Example: it tells you that "a male octopus captivates/the interest of intended mates/by changing into shimmering stripes/which pleases even the shyest types...etc. etc.How do they actually mate?It doesn't say.If you're looking for a cute little book that could spark some conversation, this is it.If you're looking for a book that is heavy on factual information that will teach your child about the birds and the bees, look elsewhere. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars afternoon fun
what a nice book...there are so many truths in there which even my aunt has shared with us after college, like afternoon sex and dating your boss. Anyways, while this is a bit of a dated book, it is funny, witty and presents a lighter side of an otherwise tabou topic (in most families, not in ours!).

4-0 out of 5 stars Still Crazy After All These Years
During my freshman year of college one of my friends gave me this book for my birthday.I was slightly shocked to receive it, but after one week it was well worn through by nearly every girl on our floor. It wasn't really so much about sex but more about being a single woman and dealing with things like being boy crazy and whining about the lack of quality men.
1-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous
Well, I am torn between giving this book 1 or 5 stars. If taken seriously, 1 is too generous a number. However, my friends and I enjoy her ridiculous takes on such timeless issues as race relations, father fixations, masturbatory techniques, zen and the art of diaphragm insertion, and a guide to horniness (symptoms include nauseau, blurred vision, and SARS like sickness), to name a few. 5-0 out of 5 stars True Love Waits
I give "True Love Waits" presentations around the country and SexSmart, by Susan Browning Pogany is the sole book I recommend to all teenagers and parents. It is the most accurate and readable abstinence resource I have ever encountered. IF I WERE MADE OF MONEY, THIS BOOK WOULD BE IN THE HANDS OF EVERY TEENAGER IN AMERICA!!Please get it for those you love.5-0 out of 5 stars The book I thought I'd have to write myself
Susan Browning Pogany has written a book I really thought about writing myself. As the mother of a 13 year old daughter, I've stayed up late into the night thinking of all the things I will need to tell my daughter, and should probably write out. How boys think of sex differently than girls. How teens are being manipulated by the media through a bombardment of sexual images via magazines, movies, television, the internet and music - for no other reason than to draw them in as consumers. How teens can fall prey to peer pressure when they loose track of what is important to them. These are only a few of the points Susan Browning Pogany offers for teens to consider in "SexSmart".5-0 out of 5 stars Sex Smart
The book I read was interseting.Sex Smart by Susan Browning Pogany wrote one of the most informing books for teens Ihave everread. The book specifies about the relation of sex and how to exclude it until a mature age.You can read about teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, date rape, condom use, etc. I highly recommend this book for teens who are curious about sex. ... I tried unsuccessfully to erase my negative review of this book since no one found it helpful. Most people seem to find positive reviews helpful and negative reviews unhelpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book to Help You Talk to Your Children
I recently read "Boys, Girls & Body Science" to each of my twin 9 year old daughters. They both appreciated the straight-forward approach of the book and they were very interested in the explanations provided. The book was at the perfect level for their age.It helped me talk to them about "The Facts of Life."I was able to use the book as a way to talk to them about the issues they are concerned about.I highly recommend this book to anyone unsure about how to start talking to their children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book on the facts of life for my 8 year old
This is really an extraordinarily well balanced presentation of the facts of life for an 8 or 9 year old. The characters in the book reacted exactly like my 8 year old when hearing the somewhat embarrassing (for him) facts of life. My son laughed pretty hard as the character in the book said "Yuck!" when hearing how babies are made. This book had tactful but direct illustrations and overall the book is a wonderful aide to any parent who wants to make sure their children understand the basic facts of life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Listen, this book helps out so much it makes kids understand things and gets ride of those crazy old wife's tales that scare kids to death. The topics in this book tend to be viewed as taboo but in reality it's all part of life and there is no reason to be ashamed of your body. So keep reading people and just be down to earth about this it's not porno and its not promoting sex. Look if I was a kid at age 10 in the 21st century, there are far better place to look for porn i.e. the Internet. Anyway lets face it is "perfectly normal"

1-0 out of 5 stars I was sexually abused because of books like this...
When I was about 5 as a little girl I was playing at another kid's house. That other kid was 5 years older and MUCH larger than me. She told me that she wanted to show me something and that it was a secret. I was excited about a "secret" and wanted to see. She led me into her room and closed and locked the door behind her. Her room was cluttered like any kids room and she pulled a book from underneath some small blankets on the floor. It was a book with cartoon pictures inside. They were cartoon drawings of boys and girls similar to the ones in this book. Some of those pictures included vague sexual activities. As a child I was curious about the book and in awe of what it showed. I was too young to understand all the words and I do not remember much of what I did understand. I remember reading the word sex, but that is the only one that I can confirm.
5-0 out of 5 stars amazing
im 16 now and i read this book when i was younger, this book is very helpful in relaying all the facts that i missed out on while ignoring everything in my family life class. all the people who said this book only deserves one star is the people who are religious nuts who believe that god needs to be included. this book does not tell you what to think, all it does is tell you all the facts about both sides of abortion (let the women descide what to do with it, its not your kid or your descision) it even mentions gays and lesbians as if it isnt a big deal(which it isnt, let people do what they want) overall this book just makes kids and adults alike more comfortable with the subject of sex and growing up so nothing comes as a suprise and the child is never left with any questions when he or she may truly need it (like when they are ready to have sex) This is an amazing book ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best book I have read in a long time!
This book was awsome!I read the whole book in a day.It is so good that you can't put it down.It helps you understand the pressure that teen parents are under, and what decisions they have to make.I recomend that everyone reads this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Inspirational
Being a teen mom, I found this book very helpful to understand my son's father's point of view. Like Christy I was TOTALLY against aborion and we struggled quite a lot with that issue. We are no longer together, sadly to say, but I feel like if I would have read this book sooner, it could have helped us to work things out instead of fighting all of the time. I would strongly recommend this book to many teen moms that feel stranded, and like they are the only one out there in this position.

5-0 out of 5 stars A powerful book that every teenager should read!
This book touches on many problems that a teenager might face in today's society. It is an extremely fast-reading book that I absolutely could not put down!Read more
