Every Parent of Every Child Should Own this Book
I am the mother of three daughters, ages 16, 18, and 22.I had heard about this book several years ago, and had looked for it over the years at our local bookstores.Realizing that I was never going to find it locally, I purchased the book online and read it immediately.I have since insisted that my husband read it, all three of my daughters have read it, and it has since moved on to the boys they are involved with.
Wonderful support for parents and teenagers!
I recieved my copy of Howard Schiffer's "How to be the Best Lover: A Guide for Teenage Boys," with eager anticipation as I have two teenage children. My son is 18 and just started college. I am delighted that Eric is so much better off than I was so far as having close loving relationships with other young men and women. I am all too painfully aware that my own involvement with Eric as a father in talking about sex has been far from what it should be. So when I read Howard Schiffer's short, but very real and moving account of his own awkward determination to talk to his son about sex in a meaningful way, I felt connected to him. As I read the book, I was very impressed with his style and substance.

Useful resource (though more useful eight years ago)
Though it's out of date and the appendix containing addresses and phone numbers of gay-friendly religious organizations around the country and gay/lesbian/bisexual youth associations is sure to be inaccurate at this point, the text itself remains relevant.The book is well-written and researched and has content very appopriate for a questioning teenager.The authors continue to stress self-acceptance and express a compassionate and understanding viewpoint of differing sexual orientations that numerous people are still loath to accept nearly a decade after the book was written. Extremely helpful in my journey out.
I found this book extremely helpful in my journey out.It is geared toward gay, lesbian, bisexual, or just plain curious teenagers.However, it would be helpful to anyone, no matter the age.The book is written in a simple style and very easy to read.There are lists of resources that aperson can utilize to help them on their journey out.The most important part of the novel was the chapter on coming out.This chapter gives the reader advice on how and when to come out.Another plus is that there are little blurbs from actual people interspersed in the book.This book is a must read for anyone who is gay, lesbian, or bisexual! ... Great for Parties...
Adult parties, that is.As a person with a dirty mind, I loved this book, as a mother, I was offended.It had cartoons doing "it" in several positions.The pictures were too much, and I will never show my kids this book.

appalling
I'm surprised this book isn't banned. I'm not a prude or religious at all and believe children should learn about sex. But there's a limit to what they should know and how they should be taught. There are many other, more civilised, ways to bring up the subject. Babette Cole brings up very inappropriate subjects for kids with very inappropriate illustrations. If you think this book is shocking, try reading "Mummy Never Told Me", by the same auther.

little torn-great book, but needs some tweaking
All in all, I would say this is a great book, with a great concept. However, it could do without the sexual positions page, on which you see mommy and daddy having sex on places like an inner tube or a swing set. It's also a little disconcerting if you read it in the situation that I did: I was babysitting and it was bed time. I told the young boy to pick out a book, and he chose it, saying it was "really funny" I said ok, and started to read... I was NOT prepared for what was to come! Some concerns
I am not Christian but was having difficulty finding a book on puberty for my 10 year old son that advocated abstinence and did not say that homosexuality is acceptable. Although I was concerned about the word "Fearfully" in the title, as I did not want fear associated with puberty, I purchased the book anyway.Warning-the drawings in the book are quite detailed.Most of the book was fine. I expected the references to Satan-the usual fear, shame and guilt stuff-I marked those out.My biggest concern was with a section that described oral and anal sex and basically said it was alright as long as you were married.Aren't oral and anal sex sodomy and against Christian teaching?Strangely of all the books I readthis is the only Christian one and the only one that mentioned anal and oral sex. Wonderful Book
This is a wonderful book for parents and teens. Its smart and interesting and correct. Its not the easiest thing to have your child ask you about sex and this book helps make that discussion not only less stressful but educational as well. I wish that I had had this book when I was a teenager. It dispells alot of misinformation that friends always end up giving each other. Like you can never get pregnant the first time you have sex. It also helps parents deal with the realities of life, that one day our children will be having sex (just like our parents had to deal with) and it is better to have our children well informed instead of ignorant of the possibilities of pregnancies or getting sick from an STD or AIDS.
