4-0 out of 5 stars The books are still great but the illustrations are different!
This set, 'Wayside School Boxed Set' is also known as 'The Wayside School Collection' and contains all three of the "real" books in the 'Wayside School' series. 'Sideways Stories From Wayside School', 'Wayside School is Falling Down' and 'Wayside School Gets A Little Stranger' are as entertaining as they always were. The price is very good and you even get the three boxes together in a box. Please note that you do not get the Wayside Arithmetic books, which really were for more devoted fans and did nothing to enhance the actual storyline found in the three major/main books.

This is the school where it is not weird to read a story backwards, bring a hobo to school for show and tell, or see faces in your cafeteria lunch goop.
5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves these books!
My son just could read these books fast enough. I think he's become a big fan of this book series. He's even got me reading them. They have a wonderful wackiness about them that can't help but make you giggle at the genius of the silliness that is Wayside School. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Resource
Aaron Shepard is a generous contributor to the field of Reader's Theatre. This book is no exception. It's well-laid out and chock-full of interesting scripts. I've recommended to several folks interested in RT.

Editorial Review

The Wayside School was supposed to be one story high, with 30classrooms side by side; instead, it was built sideways, with 30 one-classroom stories. As befits such a strange school, these tales are a bit strange too. In one, Jason is stuck to his seat by a large wad of chewing gum. His teacher tries throwing ice water on him (to chill the gum to brittleness) and turning him upside down. She even contemplates cutting his pants off. Finally, though, he falls from his upside-down position when kissed (ugh!) by one of the girls in the class. Other tales include a bit of a moral, such as the story of Kathy, whose assumption that no one will ever like her is proved right, or the story of Bebe, who draws quickly but without artistic merit. The quirky humor in this book is appealing to children, and it makes a good read-aloud book for the younger set. (Ages 5 to 12) Read more

I think this book is very funny and I like a lot of short stories more than a long story.i love this book so much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read it in 1998..
I was in 2nd grade in 1998 when a teacher read this book to my class. We all adored it. Louis Sachar uses a brand of humor that almost comes through as anti-establishment and of course appeals to children. One of my favorite quotes is about children being smarter than teachers, to which the child who hears it replies, "Oh, everyone knows that."

4-0 out of 5 stars Wayside School Is Falling Down
Do you like funny stories?Do you like stories with cows?Well if you said yes then you should read Wayside School Is Falling Down by Louis Sachar. There are lots ofcharacters in this book. For example, Benjamin Nushmet, he is a new student at Wayside school and says his name is "Mark Miller".Another person is Miss.Jewls.Miss.Jewles is a fun teacher, whoose classroom is o rge top of Wayside school. There arer lots of other people to.You should read Wayside SchoolIs Falling Down because it is very funny and has a lot of stories!(The chapters are stories, that take place in Wayside school.)I liked this book beacuse it was really funny! My favorite chapter was the last chapter because the school was filled with cows!!So you should read Wayside School Is Falling Down!

4-0 out of 5 stars A funny and weird story about school
This book is about a school with a teacher who is not very smart at all.She says things like "It matters what is on the inside" but what she means is wearing expensive underwear. The kids love her because class is very easy. One teacher is on the 19th floor, but there is no 19th floor. This book made me laugh because school is usually serious and this was just really funny.I would recommmend this book to kids who don't like school because it might make them relax and see that school can be funny too.JG ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a long trip
I originally checked this out of the library for our summer vacation.I was surprised to find that not only did my children enjoy it, but my husband and I also found it very entertaining. It is filled with subtle jokes like the color coded elevator that only goes one direction. The series of substitute teachers all with some funny twist, such as an extra nose or ear, but that is not the strange part. These substitutes have special powers and the students at Wayside School are thier unwitting victims. We enjoyed hours of jokes and the kids were not glued to the DVD.The best part - no one got car sick. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Open Again
Wayside school is having to close, and it's reopening. All the students had to go to different schools, for one whole year. Then the yard teacher, Mr. Louis sees that he misses the kids, so he prepares the school and pretty much rebuilds it.So Mr. Louis starts, and cleans every square inch of the building, from the 1st floor to the 30th floor, but there isn't actually a 19th floor, but you'll find out about it if you read this book. Then finally the school opens, and everyone gets to meet their teacher. But there is one thing,Mrs. Jewels is pregnant andcan't teach the rest of the year, so she has to have a sub to teach the restof the year, and everyone knows what that means.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun!
I love incorporating words with math!It makes it fun and interesting.I am not big on math (nor am I very good at it), but when you incorporate language, it makes it fun.I really found this enjoyable! You do neet time, paper, and a darn good eraser, but this was a blast! It has the same kind of stories as the other Wayside books, but it incorporates math problems to go with it.(BOYS + GIRLS = SILLY)And it's your job to figure out number substitutes for the letters. It's a lot of fun to do, and improves math skills and language skills. It's a blast!4-0 out of 5 stars WORSE THAN IQ
I can garantee the you will have a hard time discovering the arithmetic problems in this book. Sachar surely showed the humor and his intelligent brain. The way he expressed the problems is very easy to be understood, but i think you may need a big pile of paper, and a big pile of TIME. 3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first
