5-0 out of 5 stars Bed Time Book
This book is a great book to read kids before bed time. It's about a girl named Susan as she sleeps in her bed at night. It describes a lot of the things that are going on at the same time in the world like animals in the woods, Johnny playing his saxophone, and a boat on its way to dock.It has the rhythm of a lullabye and is a great nighttime book.I have nothing to add to this book because it's perfect the way it is.So I'm giving it 5-STARS and I recommend you read it, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Favorite for Sleepy Time
This book has become very special in our family and is our favorite bedtime book. The author takes a child through the nighttime with animals and people in the garden, the city, on the ocean, in her own home. Easy to read or to read to, easy to memorize, and such calming and gentle versethat you'll find yourself repeating it to yourself at day's end: "Upabove the earth so far,Hang half a moon and one whole star,Hang onewhole star and half a moon:Nighttime will be coming soon. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My son's favorite bedtime book!
As other reviewers have mentioned, this book has beautifully, dreamily painted illustrations. It's written in verse, describing how "momma sheep" get their 10 little sheep to fall asleep. Each turn of a page brings a new stanza, counting down the little sheep as they doze off.The rhyme scheme is rich, perfectly executed and extremely soothing. My son is 19 months old and he usually pulls this book off the shelf to read when bedtime nears. In fact, he pulls it out during the day too. He received it as a gift, and we'll be ordering it for friends as they have children.

4-0 out of 5 stars Counting sheep
This precious story uses soft pictures and rhyming words to lure its reader into a peaceful sleep.I particularly enjoyed how the author creatively used the warm, muted, and gentle, illustrations to accompany her text. Each page is an adventure for the reader to locate the key distractions that are keeping the lambs awake. For example, the reader can look for the blossoms and the ducklings that have been imbedded into the illustrations.Because of this, I feel the author and illustrator did a wonderful job making the pictures an integral part of the text. The author allows the reader to be introduced to new vocabulary terms, which will have immediate connections to the illustrations, thus creating a great deal of learning.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ten Sleep Sheep
While it's not "Good Night Moon", this is a lovely count-down to bedtime book. The numeral/number approach to the countdown reinforces counting skills while the phrasing provides a lovely reading rhythm. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Michelle book
This was a really, really, really goodbook. It was great because my favorite sport is soccer just like Michelle. It was the best Michelle book I have ready - and I have read 7 of them.I am in the first grade.

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny!
This starts with a real life situation that faced my daughter... Michelle is the best player on her soccer team.As a result she is picked for the All-Star team.At her first All-Star practice, she realizes that she is the worst player on the All-Star team!Michelle decides to change that by working on her soccer skills after school... but when will she do her homework?... in the middle of the night while everyone else is asleep!Funny and a good story. However it gets a little awkward because the all the characters from the Full-House series appear in the book even if there is no reason for them to be there. It got a little confusing for my daughter because she does not know the characters from the Full-House series and they kept popping up through out the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Sleeping Allowed
Hooray! Michelle just got picked to be on the all-star soccer team. That means practice, practice and mroe practice. It takes a ton of work to be a soccer star. But Michelle's dad says she has to quit the team if her grades start to slip. And she doesn't have time to practice her soccer and do herhomework. Then Michelle gets a super idea. If she skips sleeping, she'llhave plenty of time for soccer and schoolwork. It's a perfect plan, wellalmost... ... Read more

Editorial Review

Baby's energy knows no bounds--and poor Mommy is "Tired and frumpy /Grouchy chumpy / Oh, what a grump!" After a day of cleaning up Baby's concoctionof squishy applesauce-ketchup gravy and reading story after story to hersleepless child, who can blame Mommy for "slumping, crumpled, sleeping / Fastasleep in her big chair"? Certainly not Baby, "Smart, good Baby," who finallyclimbs into his sleeping mother's lap for that long-delayed nap.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but there are better books for this age
This book evokes a familiar scene to any parent - a tired mother trying to get a not-so-tired baby to sleep. It is fine for a few readings, but it doesn't offer anything particular special to keep you or your child coming back.
5-0 out of 5 stars A book to make you smile when you're too tired to smile...
I stumbled onto this book, and fell in love. My toddler loves the story - the rhythm and rhyme of the words is fun to read and listen to. The pictures are lovely, with plenty of details to point out and ask about with young toddlers and readers. (What's Mommy doing? Where is the bowl? What is Baby doing? Have you ever felt grumpy?) It is a delightful book in two important ways: 1) The Mommy is tired and busy but still has time for Baby (and never yells and cheers up in the end!), and 2) Baby is still a Good Baby even through Mommy is tried and grumpy. Like many tired moms, I find myself worn out at the end of a long day - and this book is a favorite of mine on those days. A 'written appology and explanation' to my 19 month old that, even through I'm "grumpy", I still love and am there for my "Little Lump"5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!
This book is for all the mothers out there that want to explain to their young children that they will always love them, no matter how they feel!Janet Wong is a great story writer and speaker! If you ever get a chance to go to one of her seminars...GO! She is funny, clever, and intelligent. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars loved it
We brought this book home three days ago, and our two year old has asked to have it read to him (or recited by memory as he's going to sleep) at least 30 times. And believe it or not, I'm not tired of it.When Mary Ann and Louie can't fall asleep, Grandpa tells them a tale of his exciting adventures when he couldn't sleep as a boy -- one that surprisingly put them to sleep (and also works on my son).Features sharks, polar bears, walruses, dragons, crocodiles, running uphill, swimming the ocean, and flying via hurricane. One of the best children's books I've ever read (and reread and reread and reread and reread). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Sailing Off to Dreamland
This beautiful classic nursery rhyme by Eugene Field has comforted children off to sleep for generations and has endured as a favorite for good reason. The lovely, peaceful verse sings to us of a river of crystal light, a sea of dew, twinkling foam, nets of silver and gold, a moon that laughs and a wind that ruffles the waves. The illustrations that Johanna Westerman has supplied are the perfect compliment to this treasured story and are executed in watercolors using mostly sea green, blue and torquoise to create a moonlit vision of dreamland as the three children, Wynken, Blynken and Nod, set sail with their cat in a charming boat shaped like a wooden shoe. This is a soothing and gentle bedtime story and I highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute story
This is a cute story with some fun artwork. It shows how a yawn spreads from person-to-person (and sometimes via animal) all the way around the world.
5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have for Kid's Book Collection
My daughter is a little over a year old and she loves this book.It has become a requirement for our bedtime routine. She hands it to me when she is tired as a way to tell me it is time to go to bed.It is such a clever story and has great illustrations. The only problem with reading it to a toddler is that she enjoys turning the pages and tears them sometimes.I would definitely recommend this as a gift or an addition to your own child's library.
