Editorial Review

No one in the world can resist a great big yawn, especially when itcomes from the sleepy moon herself. From the first yawn of the night, beginning"with a baby's tiny mouth wrapped around it," and moving on to the baby'smother, the family dog, children in countries far away, and even the moon, nighttime overcomes the planet, village by city, hemisphere by hemisphere.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Loving story to share with your children!
I really love this book.It starts off with a baby's yawn and how contagious it is and soon the baby's mother is yawning, then the dog, then people all over the earth. The pictures show different international people and are beautiful and loving. My 26 month old really thinks it is funny because the pictures make me yawn as a I am reading it.The perfect bedtime story. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential part ofa bedtime routine
This book should be included in the bedtime story canon, along with classics such as Goodnight Moon.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
Both my five year old and three year old love this book. There are some familiar sleepy animals like bears, horses and dogs, but there are also a few that we don't think about very often like moths, cranes and even crickets. The children find it so interesting to see how other animals sleep and then compare it to how little boys and girls sleep. My kids have a hard time "winding down" at night so this is a good transition for them. They also get to see that EVERYBODY sleeps. Also worth noting is that the images are truly beautiful. And I like the fact that while this book reads like a poem, it doesn't rhyme.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Time For Bed.....
Every living being sleeps, from the bear in his dark cave, fish among the water ferns, and horses standing up switching their tails, to the snowy crane who sleeps standing on just one leg, turtles inside their shells, seals with their flippers against blocks of ice, and of course little boys and girls.Originally published in 1958, Charlotte Zolotow's Sleepy Book is as fresh and wonderful today as it was over 40 years ago.Her simple, gentle text is full of imagery and magic, and complemented by brand new, evocative illustrations.Artist, Stefano Vitale, has really captured the essence of Ms Zolotow's poetry with engaging pictures of sleeping animals in quiet, subdued tones.Together, word and art create a soothing and comforting bedtime story that will lull little ones off to dreamland."...but little boys/ and girls,/ when the night/ comes/ and the wind/ whispers gently/ in the trees/ and the stars/ sparkle and shine,/ sleep/ warm under/ their blankets/ in their/ beds." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Kids love it
A very simple little book; my 3 grandkids (twins age 3 and a girl 5) just love it. One review mentioned that the text doesn't flow. I also found it clumsy the first time thru, but after that it'll be easy to read, because your kids will insist on it every night.

2-0 out of 5 stars Can't Sleep - Not a bedtime winner.
Although this is a relatively thick board book, I honestly don't feel it is worth the paper it's printed on.The drawings are colourful but badly drawn, the text is simple but doesn't flow well making it almost boring. The story itself is reassuring for little ones hesitant to go to bed at night, but I do wish that a better job was done with this book.If you are looking for a cute/fun bedtime book you are better off checking out the Sandra Boynton selection. This book would only benefit someone trying to ease a childs fear and even then, the book is not that interesting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Such a sweet book
This book is so sweet and simple. It indirectly addresses the fears little ones may have about being the only one awake in the house, while reassuring them that someone is always awake watching over them.It is not wordy in the least.Everything is conveyed through colorful art and positive text.My two year old loves this book and so do I.It's a classic. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An enchanting story for all toddlers
This is one of the most creative and enchanting stories for children I have ever read, with captivating illustrations to boot.My 2 1/2 year old daughter asks for "Hubashy" every night before going to bed.It simply is the best book in our collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'Night, 'Night, Sleep Tight.....
It's the end of the day, and creatures large and small are worn out and in need of sleep. From the mother cat with her little kittens, three very tired, suitcase carrying bears, a weary, droopy-eyed fish, and a too-long flying goose, to the man in the moon who'll be sound asleep soon, an eye rubbing, sleepybaby in a boat, and a frog who's tired and dry from hopping all day, all are looking for a place to rest, hushabye.....Award winning author and illustrator, John Burningham, has created a soothing and comforting bedtime story that's just perfect for preschoolers as young as one.The calming rhythm of his simple, quiet, sometimes rhyming text, begs to be whispered, and will lull your little ones to sleep with its gentle motion.Expressive, colorful, and childlike artwork, along with pencil sketches enhance his words.Hushabye will easily become part of your bedtime ritual."You are tucked up in bed./You toes are all warm./You're out of the wind/and the rain./Your head's on the pillow./You'll soon be asleep./Hushabye/Hushabye/Hush" ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully soothing nighttime story for toddlers+
My kids recently fought over who would get this book in their personal bookcase. My boy is 5, my girl 3!Even little boys who like to watch action shows during the daytime and make guns out of tinkertoys will enjoybeing put to sleep with this book...it is soothing and repetitive, andcalmed both my children right down. They have nice bedtime memories, and Icould probably read it every night as a ritual and they wouldn't mind. I ambuying a copy for my sister-in-law's little baby who is due in May.Mykids enjoy watching everything slowly going to sleep, and finally too, thereluctant little girl, who is limp in her mama's arms by the end of thebook (as my own children were!).Highly recommended bedtime book, right upthere with Goodnight Moon. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars A Sleepy Novel
I think Diane Hoh must of been "Night Writing" when she wrotethis as it seems very loosly written and tirsome.I have read all theNightmare Hall books in secquence, so this in my nineth, but if the nextone is as bad it will be my last. The plot to this book is okay, but theending is just awful and totally predictible

5-0 out of 5 stars Ideal for sharing with young ones right before bedtime
Oh, Crumps!/Ay, Caramba! by Lee Bock is a thoroughly "kid friendly", English/Spanish bilingual picture book, about a tired farmer with an endless list of chores to do - and who becomes sleeper and sleeper as he works into the night. A friendly story illustrated by Morgan Midgett in whimsical color, Oh, Crumps!/Ay, Caramba! is ideal for sharing with young ones right before bedtime and a very strongly recommended addition to school and community bilingual picture book collections for young readers ages 4 to 8. ...
