1-0 out of 5 stars THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL, "STUPID TALES"
THERE WAS NO DOUBT I WASN'T WARNED BEFORE PURCHASING THIS, WHAT I WAS GETTING.IT'S SARCASTIC, PARTS ARE FUNNY, BUT I COULDN'T BRING MYSELF TO WASTE ANY MORE OF MY TIME BY FINISHING THE BOOK. HOWEVER, HIS BOOK ABOUT THE WOLF & 3 PIGS WAS MUCH MORE CLEVER AND ENTERTAINING.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tails
A fantastic book not only for the young, but all ages. However, if you do not have the background knowledge in the many original fairy tales, you may fail to see the humour throughout the book. I love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stinky Cheese... funny? YES!
The story is narrated by Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. It is separated into a few short funny stories based on well known fairy tales.Jack talks to characters in the stories as well as the reader throughout the book in a very comical way that keeps the readers involved and entertained. All of the short stories are very funny and separate from each other; however, the characters sometimes travel from one story to another as a sort of underlying plot.

Editorial Review

"There has obviously been some kind of mistake," writes Alexander T.Wolf from the pig penitentiary where he's doing time for his alleged crimes of 10 years ago. Here is the "real" story of the three little pigs whose houses are huffed and puffed to smithereens... from the wolf's perspective. This poor, much maligned wolf has gotten a bad rap. He just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, with a sneezy cold, innocently trying to borrow a cup of sugar to make his granny a cake. Is it his fault those ham dinners--rather, pigs--build such flimsy homes? Sheesh.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The True Story Of The Three Little Pigs
The true story of the three little pigs is about a wolf who needed a cup of sugur for his grandma's birthday cake. The wolf was also sick.So the wolf went to the first house. It was made of hay.The wolf said hello is any body there?
5-0 out of 5 stars The True Story of The Three Little Pigs
Jon Scieska wrote the book The True Story of The Three Little Pigs. The genre of this book is Fiction. In the book, there are four main characters. They are Alexander, and the three little pigs.
5-0 out of 5 stars AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT
This is a wonderful, delightful and simply funny off take on the old three little pigs story. It is told by the wolf and the story is through his eyes. Now whether you choose to believe his story or not, is completely up to you.The wolf is able to tell a pretty convincing tale, but you just don't really know. This story could be pulled from the newspaper of any of our large city papers today. The author has a true wit about his writing that is appealing to bothyoung and old.The art work is great and fits quite well with the text.Recommend this one quite highly. ... Editorial Review

When poor James Henry Trotter loses his parents in a horrible rhinoceros accident, he is forced to live with his two wicked aunts, Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker. After three years he becomes "the saddest and loneliest boy you could find." Then one day, a wizened old man in a dark-green suit gives James a bag of magic crystals that promise to reverse his misery forever. When James accidentally spills the crystals on his aunts' withered peach tree, he sets the adventure in motion. From the old tree a single peach grows, and grows, and grows some more, until finally James climbs inside the giant fruit and rolls away from his despicable aunts to a whole new life. James befriends an assortment of hilarious characters, including Grasshopper, Earthworm, Miss Spider, and Centipede--each with his or her own song to sing. Roald Dahl's rich imagery and amusing characters ensure that parents will not tire of reading this classic aloud, which they will no doubt be called to do over and over again! With the addition of witty black and white pencil drawings by Lane Smith (of Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars james and the giant peach
This book was an okay one. It was a little weird, but I liked to read it. They had a lot of unrealistic stuff in it like a peach growing at an amazing rate. There was a cloud that turned into a mean rhino and scared James. There was a flying peach because they made a balloon. This book is recommended for grades 5th to 6th.

5-0 out of 5 stars Always a Pleasure!
We do seem to love the story of a child whose life is so miserable that it begs for a magical rescue and an exciting, dangerous and hair raising adventure. In James and the Giant Peach we meet one James Henry Trotter, one of these very same children who like his predecessors and successors (Harry Potter, Cinderella, Those Lemony Snickett Children, Hansel & Gretel, ect...) is leading a desperate and miserable life with is two wicked aunts...his parents were eaten by a wild, rampaging rhinoceros (naturally). On one particularly bad day, Henry hides behind some bushes and meets a strange old man who gives him some magic crystals (green glowing pellet things), which he is supposed to drink (mixed with water and ten of his own hairs), but of course he promptly trips and spills them on the ground under an ancient and withered peach tree. 4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read!
James and the Giant Peach is about the adventures of a boy named James and his gigantic peach. At first James lived with his parent's until they died. Then James came to live with his Aunts. The Aunts were mean to James. When James was out one day an old man gave magic seeds to James.James was supposed to run home and drink them for his life to get better. But he dropped the seeds into the soil and into the peach tree and the peach tree grew a gigantic peach. One night James went into the peach and saw huge bugs with real personalities. The Peach rolled into the ocean and the bugs and Jame's were trying to get out of the ocean. The silk worm made string and attached them to sea gulls. They caught so many sea gulls that they started to rise from the ocean then they drifted off into the sky and eventually they got stuck on top of the Empire State building's needle. The policemen got them off the building and onto the ground and they were all treated like heroes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Train Your Child To Be An Analytical Thinker (and Innoculate Him Against Math Phobia)....
After her math teacher "Mrs. Fibonacci" says that almost everything could be thought of as a math problem, the narrator enters a bizarre realm where "everything seems to be a problem," and it gets increasingly worse, as she becomes a "math zombie" before the brilliant (and for older folks, profound) conclusion. The math problems start out simple ("It takes me 10 minutes to get dressed...If my bus leaves at 8:00, will I make it on time?"), even English is a math problem ("If mail+box=mailbox... Does lipstick-stick=lip?)"Money, time, measurement, fractions, sequences, estimation, sets, logic and more are covered--there's even a quadratic formula and mention of Zeno! The brilliance of this book is that it anticipates and removes the obstacle of math phobia, specifically fear of word problems, that I saw more often than not back when I was a math teacher.Although the bookcover says "For ages > 6 and < 99,"and that is true because of the layers of relevance, I'd especially recommend it for early third grade, that way by the time the onslaught of word problems begins, word problems will seem more like word "puzzles" and fun.Great critical thinking tool, fun both in its story and visuals.

1-0 out of 5 stars Um...yeah
This book is really stupid and, honestly, if I had children, I would not ever put them down by giving them this book.Anyone who has a brain with a capacity higher than that of one with F.A.S. should be able to figure out the answes within two seconds or less and is a waste of money and time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Real-Life Math Book
This book is great for showing kids how math constantly appears in real life!

5-0 out of 5 stars Who cares if it's silly?
My boys (7 and 5), my wife and I think this book is total gas.Plus, we do something unique when we read to our kids: We TALK about the books!"J,P,G & B" has opened up lots of great conversations about real history with our sons. They "get" that Paul Revere didn't sell underwear, but played a pivotal role in our nation's beginnings. And they understand that Ben, George, John and Tom are bona fide American VIPs. (And I'd say it's a safe bet that at least Ben knew how to laugh at himself.)Lighten up, folks -- life's too short to miss out on good, clean giggles!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book
Lane Smith has done it again. In the classic form as the Happy Hockey Family and the Stinky Cheese Man, John, Paul, George & Ben is a classic Lane Smith take on some of our country's founding fathers. As always, the animations are what makes this books so special. My six year old loves reading the story and my 3 1/2 year old loves the pictures -- a wonderful book!

5-0 out of 5 stars I bought it for my kids, but I love it as much as they do!!
I saw Lane Smith on a morning news show (CBS-I think) on the 4th of July, and he read an excerpt from this book.I immediately rushed out to buy it for my kids.My daughter, 6, liked the underwear part. My son, 9,(a "president/history nerd") liked it, but was quick to point out the "mistakes" in the book.He (as well as I) was glad to see the section in the back that "sets the record straight."I love intelligent humor, and was glad to see this book offering that, as well as being interesting to kids.In a world where some children (and some adults) have no interest in anything that isn't on TV or the internet, this book is a funny, smart, way to introduce children to the story of our country's founding fathers. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Science Verse
"Science Verse" and " Math Curse" both are hilarious books. The tapes they come with also come with the funnyness of the books. I find "Science Verse" a lot more non-thinking-about-it book than Math Curse, but "Math Curse" is more brain racking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful assortment of Dahl's childrens work
This is a beautiful book full of colorful illustrations, which is always a major plus, most of which are by Quentin Blake. This has some of Roald Dahl's poetry (such as his hilarious fairy tale retellings), short stories, excerpts from his children's novels, recipes, letters from fans, and other nice little tidbits, like a sheet Dahl filled out about his birthday, favorite color, food, etc. I think this book is well worth the money, because I got this a few years ago and haven't grown out of it since!

5-0 out of 5 stars A superb, fantastic, and wonderful book
This book, like all other books of Rohld Dahl, is detailed, humorous, and just plain good. I spent 9 hours just sitting in a chair, reading this book, defanatly another fanatic book of Rolhd Dahl. I loved it. WOW!

3-0 out of 5 stars What I liked and didn't like about the Dahl Treasury

5-0 out of 5 stars Egypt...... in time warp land
Time-traveling is not as cool as you think. Being mummified, being trapped in a secret room and having your friend almost eaten by a crocodile is not cool. But what is cool is being treated as a royal guest in Thutmose III's palace, sailing in his boat and teaching him basketball. So, if you like things that are cool and not, you should read this hilariously funny book.

Every once in a while a book crosses our desks that makes us sit quietly delighted--except for a few squeaks of unmitigated joy--and this oversized, energized, stylized, highly prized book of fables is one of them. Jon Scieszka has a simple philosophy of the fable: "If you can't say something nice about someone, change the guy's name to Donkey or Squid." After all, the alleged Aesop did it. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Silly Morals
This book has beautiful pictures. The situations are ones that kids can relate to - and offer an opportunity for kids to learn some appropriate behaviors in difficult situations. Then they follow it up with a moral that is pointless.I am disappointed in the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't say something nice about someone?Make them a squid
Those of us who remember Jon Sciezka and Lane Smith as the author and illustrator of "The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs!" will know exactly what they are getting into when they pick up "Squids Will Be Squids: Fresh Morals, Beastly Fables."The thesis here is that even before Aesop a legion of storytellers have told stories about annoying, weird, pain-in-the-neck people, turned them into animals, added a moral, and thereby changed rude gossip and bad jokes into fables. The idea here is present a collection of fables that Aesop might be telling if he was alive today. The moral, according to Sciezka and Smith, is that "If you can't say something nice about someone, change the guy's name to Donkey or Squid."Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great but not for young children
My husband, my 2-year-old daughter, and I are huge fans of the sequel - "The Happy Hockey Family moves to the country."So we were all very excited to get our hands on this book also.It is, as expected, a very funny, wry satire that is well-drawn and fun to read, BUT unlike the sequel it is really totally inappropriate for a small child. The book contains a segment about the very, very scary monsters that come in through the windows at night which is very frightening. So be warned that it is really a book for older kids (and parents) to enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very funny cute book by Marie U.
This book is a little kid book, but I'm 13 and it still made me laugh with joy. This book is very simple yet funny about a little twisted family. I think everyone should read this book because it would make the grumpiest person.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for kids!
This book is great for kids because it's so creative! It's sort-of like the Disney channel show "Rolie Polie Oile."Young kids will enjoy it because the words are mostly small words and there are many short stories within the book. They will understand everything going on and will laugh through the whole book.I highly recommend this book to young children, I know they will love it! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as others
I have been a fan of Mr. Sciescka [sic] and Mr. Smith since I discovered their "The True Story of The Three Little Pigs by A. Wolf" about ten (or more) years ago. Their "Stinky Cheese Man" and "Math Curse" and "Science Curse" are wonderful.I find their "Frog Prince" and this book to be a lesser effort.
5-0 out of 5 stars What is art?
What is art? people have been trying to figure this out for centuries.this book introduces the eternal question to children in a fun, silly way, as well as different genres of art and the hilarious pompousness of art critics.the innocent hero just wants to find his friend Art, but everyone keeps showing him new room in the museum.children will appriciate the collage of sparse illustrations and famous art works, as well as the implied commentary about the innocence of children and the silliness of grown-ups.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seen Art
I absolutely love this author.I also love how he takes already often established text and tells a story from another point of view. This books is on Art of some very famous artist.Rich language and lots to learn from this book.Great addition to any children's library and to any art study program. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Poor langauge and inappropriate humor
I was very shocked when I read this book to find that so many people deem these appropriate for children. They do have some information for the kids to learn from (the reason I chose them originally) but the way the children talk and act is terrible!I had only thumbed through one and chose it from the library from my son, then I let him read the rest of the series and suddenly had him calling names and being disrespectful and LAUGHING about it!
4-0 out of 5 stars A little too much like magic tree house
These books are really nice, but my daughter has already read a bunch of the magic tree house books and these are just too much like them.. she thinks these are funnier but the idea has no sparkle for her any more.. but I would recommend these books if you haven't started reading the tree house series..

5-0 out of 5 stars Let's Do the Time Warp Again
I was going through some old books the other day when I happened upon my "Time Warp Trio" collection. What began as thumbing through "Knights of the Kitchen Table" ended with my reading all four of the stories right then and there. They were terriffic when I was little and they are terriffic now. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Little Illustrated Fairy Tale Short Story for All Ages
In the small town of Frip - three houses and three families living by the sea - the main economy is goat milk and goat cheese. But, the town is plagued by Gappers; Gappers are small dim-witted, multi-eyed, orange, sticky, ball-sized creatures (like Tribbles, but not as cute) that love goats. They love goats so much that, if left unattended, they cover the goats from head to toe and so traumatize them that goats stop producing milk and thus shut down the economy of Frip.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant adult allegory masked as children's tale
Saunders' brilliant, hilariousadult allegory is masked as a children's tale but is really more of a profound critique of American social Darwinism and the false idea currently held by many rich and privileged that they are rich and privileged due to their own superiority, hard work, or God's election, and not to pure luck. The book is also a thoughtful, funny response to libertarian myths of radical individuality that currently infect American politics like those Gappers of Frip.Older children might enjoy the book as well.I could imagine teaching this book, with wonderful illustrations by Lane Smith, to intelligent ten year olds, but might also integrate the book into a high school English course.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Silly, Fun and it includes a good lesson!
"The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip" is truly delightful and funny and for readers of all ages.George Saunders creates a tale about a small village (of all of three houses) that live by a sea where the 5 little children go out three times a day to brush gappers off their goats, which supply the milk and literately the income of the village.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE MOST FANTASTIC BOOK YOU'LL EVER READ!!!!!!
It all starts out with someone I really would call a "Not so Jolly Roger."They have pistols, daggars and lots of cool weapons in this book. (Violent). Something always goes wrong-wich always happens in books-of course.Get this book or I'll be "The not so Jolly Roger."

5-0 out of 5 stars The not so Jolly Roger
I liked The not so Jolly Roger becuase it was a mystery and I love myseries. My favorite part was when Fred was reading a book and Fred got sucked into one of the pages. The not so Jolly roger could be better by taking out the part when a pirate shoots his mates after they got done buring the treasure they found. Iread the story becuase in the first book of the series, it was really interesting,so it made me think The not so Jolly Roger was going to be interesting.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Time Traveling

5-0 out of 5 stars My Review of Your Mother was a Neanderthal
I think this book should be rated 5 stars because it's really funny and has a lot of smart remarks. In the story Sam Joe and Fred, in other words the time warp trio travel to the time 40,000 BC.There they meet cavemen and cave women. The problem is that they have to find the magic book to get back to their own time. There they met three cavegirls who took them up to meet their leader Ma.Then Ma locked them up a cave and that's when thier problems started. But they finally escaped by running away when Ma opened the gate. After awhile they met cavemen and their leader Ug.Then Ug showed them maggot infested meat. When Sam Joe and Fred tried to get out of the smelly hole in the ground Ug pulled them down and said no caw. That's when they saw a sabre tooth tiger and they came up with an idea. They dressed like a really ugly monster and scared the tiger off. Then they went back to the cave and found the book. They used the book to go back home.
4-0 out of 5 stars Mostly entertaining
Overall, this was a pretty good book, but it doesn't match Knights of the Kitchen Table and Sam Samurie for Time Warp Trio fun. While it was entertaining to watch them run from the girls, hide from the sabertooth, etc., it was hard to believe that they were in any danger. The dialogue was often witty, but the plot a little thin which took away from the adventure. If you've read the other Time Warp Trio books, then you should read this one, but if you've never enjoyed the adventures of Fred, Sam and Joe you should try one of the better ones first.Read more

Do you like funny things? Because if you do this is the book for you. It's about three boys named Fred, Sam, and Cookie who use magic to go back in time to 1816, the western time period of time.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
