3-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup
This was a very good book though the age range should have been more like 11 to 16 because of some of the issues that is talks about. This book has real stories by real girls about real issues that girls go through. It is very comforting to know that you are not the only one going through these things.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup for the Girl's Soul
This book was wonderful. Different short stories about troubles, special moments, death, depression, friendship and popularity, crushes, everything a lot of girls go through in their teenage and preteen years.
4-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup for the Girls Soul
In this book girls write about embarasing moements, deaths and times when the girls or their friends had mentalproblems. Some of the stories scared me a few mad me giggle and the others mad me fell bad. I learned that you arre not the only one who makes mistakes or is going through hard times. 5-0 out of 5 stars One Of the very best books available on such a delicate topic
I researched for many days every book avalable on this subject, as my husband left me a young widow at 26, dying very suddenly and tragically of a brain annuerisym in the middle of the night, beside me in the car - two weeks before Thanksgiving. Although I am cursed that I have not been left with our own child, he did leave behind several nieces and nephews profoundly attached to him; he was the most loving and adoring man toward children, much like one himself, which is why they loved him so...... so I knew when he died, looking at their faces they simply could not understand, - let alone cope or come to terms.... to make matters worse, the rest of the family demanded I not cry or show emotion in front of them - "Don't upset the children"...... what a terrible mistake. Hiding your emotions from such delicate and tender minds teaches them to hide and be confused about their own feelings. It was so painful for me to not only lose him, but feel I could not have or give support to those who suffered with me. 5-0 out of 5 stars An Important Book For Every Teacher To Have
Learning to cope with difficult emotions is a most important achievement for young children who are experiencing grief from some form of loss. The experience of death needs an adequate explanation using correct terms and simply stated definitions. When vague terms are used, children become confused. When children are given the opportunity to ask questions and to express feelings of grief through physical and creative activities, they are able to develop healthy coping patterns that will continue through adulthood.

And so the experiment begins. Can crude Teri and sweetMikey, combined with the rejection letter, form the catalyst that will shakeKate out of her selfish tunnel vision and force her to deal with the suppressedpain of her mom's death? 3-0 out of 5 stars nicole's book!!
This book was about a girl named Kate Malone. I liked the book because it was not predictable. The book was about this girl named Teri who is like a bully, but she is only a bully because she is getting picked on by other kids. Then her house burns down by a fire, so she moves in with Kate and her family and they are planning on to rebuild and remodel their house. But one day when they are eating lunch, they let Mikey go up and play in his new house. They thought that the door to his room was locked, but it seemed that it wasn't. So when they heard a loud scream coming from Mikey's room they were all wondering what happened. When they got up there they saw little Mikey lying on the floor dead. The open outlet electrocuted him and he died. It was so sad.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for Catalyst!
The book {Catalyst was such an awesome book. The characters: Kate, Terri, Mikey, and Mitch were my favorites especially Mikey. Towards the end of the book is the best part of the whole thing. You don't want to put it down. It reminds me of my brother's life. He is a lot like Kate in so many ways. This book is about a typical teenagers life; the pressure of school, the pressure of friends, waiting for your college acceptance letter (hopefully), and just life at home. I would highly recommend this book to anyone especially those between 12-19. This book is in my top two. It's basically about an average 18-year-old girl named Kate whose mother died and her father is the town pastor, she has a 14-year-old brother and a boyfriend named Mitch. She's waiting for her acceptance letter to MIT, the school her mother went to, and a tragedy befalls the neighbors, which leads Kate from her normal happy life to a rude awakening.

3-0 out of 5 stars Catalyst...was good but could have been better!
Kate Malone is a straight A student whose dream is to get into MIT, which so happens to be her dead mother's alum school.Kate loves chemistry, and her boyfriend has already been accepted early decision to Harvard, so she is feeling the pressure to get in!One catch: she ONLY applied to MIT because she was so confident that she and her love of chemistry would get her in. However, her perfect world unravels beginning with a fire that destroys her neighbor's house. Her neighbor happens to be Teri Litch, a bully who Kate has always hated.Because Kate's father is a caring reverend, he lets Teri and her "brother" Mikey stay at their own house.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book moved me to tears
I came across this book in a local children's hospital resource library. The first page describes a speeding race car with no brakes, and how it might go off the road or even crash.Page two goes on to draw a parellel between this race car, and and explains that having ADHD is a lot like being a race car with no brakes, 'You have a great engine with lots of thinking power, and a good, strong body, but no brakes'.I broke down crying right there in the middle of the library - it was like finally getting inside my child's head and knowing how he feels and why he just doesn't seem to know when to quit.5-0 out of 5 stars A Powerful Resource for the Parents of ADHD Kids!
One of the most difficult things about parenting an ADHD child is explaining attention deficit disorder to that child. Patricia Quinn and associates have given a powerful resource to these parents - a true gift to empower them. In simple language, illustrated with eye-catching graphics, PUTTING ON THE BRAKES explains not only the nature of this disorder, but also how children and their families can learn to manage it. As an ADD Coach, I find this to be the most important resource that I can put into the hands of parents.

4-0 out of 5 stars Putting on the Brakes
A very good book for children with ADHD.It's easy to read and gets to the point, something all ADHD children need.It explains what ADHD is, that others have the same problems, and how it effects their home and school lives. It gives some wonder information about how they can help theirselves.I have read it to both my children with ADHD as well as ADHD children I work with and they all enjoy it, and can relate to it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars It might save a child from a life behind bars
It's aimed at junior and senior high school kids to keep them out of gangs. I'm not going to go into my feelings toward this guy or the death penalty or his execution. As far as the merits of this book, I think it might get some kids to think. Williams does a good job of describing prison life. For some kids it might be the smells, others the rules or something simple like never being able to have a soda again. But if he can help one kid stay out of prison he has done something good with his life. Does it make up for the bad? I'll leave that up to God, karma, whatever. It's not for me to decide.
1-0 out of 5 stars A child's book
I guess I should have read the reviews before purchasing this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Glenn's Review
Stanley Tookie Williams is the main character in this book. He is now in prison on San Quentin's Death row because he was found guilty of killing 4 people in 2 robberies. He wrote this book from death row. I believe that if Tookie really was guilty of this heinous crime that he would have confessed to doing this, because he is a real man and as a real man, you do a lot of things differently. Tookie doesn't really change throughout the whole book, but he does talk about redemption.

5-0 out of 5 stars a wonderful gift for any age "kid"
This is a perfectly wonderful concept with super illustrations just waiting for a touch from the reader. It is impossible to read this book without laughing. Underlying lessons are as easy to take as a spoonful of sugar making the medicine go down!

5-0 out of 5 stars How adorable was this book!!!!
The little cuties make outfits with the fuzz from the ball. That in itself is a reason to buy the book.Cook-a-doodle-doo is still my favourite but this one is a close second!

5-0 out of 5 stars My second and third grade students loved this book!
Picture books must be truly intelligent, creative and entertaining to amuse my second and third grade class. This one was the biggest winner of the year with my students! They laughed UPROARIOUSLY at every detailed picture and continued to talk about it well after the story was over. It's great for Read Aloud because it gives parents/teachers the opportunity to "ham up" the voices of the prairie dogs. The content is appropriate for younger students, but the humor keeps elementary school kids riveted! Fun for adults, too! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mesmerizing...
I finished this book last night and must say it's one of the best books I've ever read.I feel as though I went along with Mark on this journey and am thankful for the depth and the insight it provided.
3-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book
The novel "I Heard the Owl Call My Name" by Margaret Craven is about an American who moved to an island to live with an Indian tribe.I thought it was interesting at certain points in the book, but other parts were boring. In the book, people would die and nobody would mourn or show an emotion toward the death.I thought that was unusual to read about people who acted like they didn't care, compared to reality.I also thought the book was interesting because I got the feel of the Indian culture and how they lived their lives. It was different to me when I heard their views about education. They want their children to receive an education, but they hate the results of it.The Indians want to keep their culture alive and thriving, but every time an Indian receives an education a part of their culture is ripped apart.Eventually each educated Indian will not want to live their lives as an Indian, they will want to live their lives as an American.I would recommend this book to people who are interested in the Indian culture.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I thing that EVERYONE of Andrew Clements books is one of my favorite books but this one get higher that most of the other ones. It's about a newspaper boy who is delivering news paper's and then he bikes past a house that no one has lived in for a long time and he noticed some thing in the upstairs window! And if I tell you anymore it will give something away. So I defiantly Recomend this book to anyone that's looking for a really good realistic fiction/ Mystary book!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed
I found this story very average. Just so-so, not a page-turner. The writing is average, the story is average. I was surprised that the author didn't seem to know about point of view. He kept hopping heads in the same scene--very amateurish. I advise you not to waste your money. If you want to read it, go to the library.

5-0 out of 5 stars The story of a fifth grader in the process of working out a good mystery
Keith Nobbs has appeared in Broadway productions and also has film credits to his name: his voice lends equally well to Room One, the story of a fifth grader in the process of working out a good mystery one upon which the future of not only his small classroom but his entire town may rest.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Theory, Worse Practice
Dr. Moats' theories have been excitedly received by politicians (particularly those with very strong conservative views) and slavishly followed by publishers. These interests claim her work to be informed by scientific research and met by strong results.
5-0 out of 5 stars This knowledge is esential!
I was lucky enough to take a two week intensive course with the author when she still offered those classes in Vermont. This book is excellent if used as a textbook for a class on language esssentials that teachers of reading need, but can also be used alone. Anyone who teaches reading/writing at any level must really know what this book contains!A necessary resource for all who are involved with language instruction of any kind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fly Away Home
This book is great and kind ofsad. The way it's sad because it was about the kid and his father being poor and they got to live in an airport and they could be kicked out from there. Also, they are trying everything to get out of there and live a good life. Out of all the way the writing of the book is good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fly Away Home
Fly Away Home really shows the difficulties of being homeless, from a little boy's point of view. This story is placed in a airport, where the boy (along with his father) plays the game of not getting noticed and not getting caught. You really feel bad for them, and the harsh truth is that there are people like this. But the boy still has hope that they won't be homeless and will have a better life. This really makes you think of how lucky we truely are. I give this book 4 stars out of 5 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book for Realistic Fiction Lovers!
Willie (Will) Beech, the likable main character in "Good Night, Mr. Tom", is a shy, scared, malnourished 8-year-old evacuated to the English countryside from London in World War II.Willie goes to live with a kind older man, Tom Oakley, whom Willie affectionately calls Mr. Tom.Willie, who was frequently abused by his mother in the past, learns new, loving ways of life while in the care of Tom.He grows both physically and emotionally during his stay, but many times this growth is interrupted by thrilling plot-twists.
5-0 out of 5 stars A real tear jerker, but a great book.
My son had to pick a book from a long list to read over the summer for school. After reading the reviews for this book, we chose it.It was a very touching story, sad in places and happy in others. You really are cheering for Will and Mr. Tom.The author uses colloquial accents of rural England, but you really get used to it.My son is reading the book now and isn't having a problem understanding what the characters are saying. He is also enjoying the book a great deal, and having a hard time putting it down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love is Overpowering
Experience the life of a young boy who has never known what love is until he moves in with a man who loves him like his own. Good Night, Mr. Tom is a realistic fiction novel that everyone at any age would enjoy. The author, Michelle Magorian, uses such enthusiasm to make you feel like you are actually part of the story. 5-0 out of 5 stars This book is amazing
I was given the amazing opportunity to spend time with Virginia Fry while living in Vermont this past winter. My 14 year old sister had recently passed away after her stuggle against cancer. I was completely lost, and met with Virginia several times. She is one of the most amazing people that I've ever been priviledged enough to have come into my life. This book enveloped every part of her ideas and extremely heartfelt suggestions to get you through the most horrible times. She is such an amazing person and this book reflects that to the fullest extent.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very realistic book (coming from me)
I have family members that have expierienced this adventure of "crossing the wire". It is not only hard but its also sad, sad because not only are you suffering but you see other people suffer and that ther can get really tough. This book goes in detaial what one person, Victore Flores had to do to cross. Now if whatever happend to him in the story affects you in any way, just think about all the people that are crossing just to see how it is like here, or even to get money for their family. I think they deserve a little simpathy. Overall this book is a great book to read, you'll get addicted i guarantee it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it
As an author, I was freaking out about how timely this book was, given all the talk of illegal immigration, etc. Then I read it, and was even more impressed. This is a terrific book, far more interesting than a lot of news stories I've read on the topic, from a master of the genre. I fear it won't get the attention it deserves, solely because it's a YA book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read And You Might Learn Something
Once again Will Hobbs has put together a boy's story that leads the reader not only on an adventure but also gives insight into ways of life in which most of us are unfimiliar. Overwhelmed in the knowledge that his mother and little brother will soon end up living on the streets the young lad of Crossing Jordan decides that he must sneak across the American border where there is hope he can make enough money to send home. The adventure is the telling of all the efforts, and failures, the boy must go through to accomplish such a feat.

4-0 out of 5 stars America
Candace Fleming goes out on a limb to tell the story of Lowji a young boy who moved with his mother and father from India to a small midwestern town in the United States of America. This story is charming, light-hearted, and well written. Lowji is an endearing character that comes to understand his new home. He is challenged by cultural misunderstandings and learning the funny expressions that English speakers of the United States often take for granted. In a very innocent way Lowji makes the adjustments to life in the USA. He makes new friends and settles into a new home. The acculturation experience is one that many new Americans may endure. Fleming handles the situation with clever conscience without vilifying either Lowji's family or the townspeople. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Internment from a child's point of view
This was interesting to me since my mother was about Yuki's age when she went to "camp".My mother doesn't talk much about that time, maybe because some things you just want to forget. It helped me understand some of the fear and prejudice towards Japanese Americans during the war.I have mixed feelings about the internment. It was horrible how so many people lost their livelihoods, but on the other hand, in camp, they were sheltered from the hatred and hostility they may have experienced at home. This was wartime, so everyone was feeling some kind of unhappiness.I give this book 4 stars and 5 stars to Uchida's "Journey Home", the story which follows Yuki's family out of camp.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Review
Yuki Sakane is a Japanese-American girl, who lives a normal life in Berkeley, California. In her school, kids make fun of her for being Japanese. They also call her "Jap" which is insulting for Japanese.
4-0 out of 5 stars Yuki's Adventure
Yuki and all the other Japanese living in California have to evacuate after the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor. Yuki and her family have to leave their pets, friends, and furniture behind and head to a camp in Topaz, Utah. People have to live in horse stalls and share bathrooms with people, but Yuki manages to be optimistic about it. Yuki gets a new friend named Emi and they always pal around together until Emi has an unfortunate illness. It is sad at parts when Yuki loses a loved one, but it has a happy ending. I liked this book because it taught me a lot about Japanese concentration camps in the 1940's and I thought the characters were very likeable and unique. This is a good book and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about the Japanese concentration camps. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Read
I really loved this book. Being a highschool student i could relate to a lot of the issues that the girls had to face, i love their idea of the notebook, my friends and i always just pass notes which has a much greater risk of getting caught. I thought it was a great read and i seriously couldnt put it down !

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I thought I would give this book a shot. Boy, was it stupid as hell!! My fault though. It's just a bunch of diary notes of high school BS. They think they're cool now but wait until they get older and more mature. They'll look back on this and go "Man, I was a real dips**t back then".

3-0 out of 5 stars If you're looking for it, don't look here
I was first interested in this when I saw the girls on "Today", and they talked about the book like it entailed many interesting girl-teen stuff (i.e. smoking weed, sex, etc). There really isn't much sex stuff in this book. One recounts about their first time, and the most interesting page in the whole book is where one describes what it's like giving "head" for the first time, but she doesn't go into details.Mostly just joking about "penis" and stupid girl stuff. One of the girls' handwriting is terrible, the book can sometimes be hard to read.I was left disappointed in it.I read it at a books-a-million without buying it, thank the lord. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup For the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal School
After reading this book, I found all of the stories included in this compilation very touching. I liked how each short story aimed to teach a little life lesson. The inspiration that these stories carried along with them made me realize how much this book was worth reading. I also enjoyed reading the quizzes and tidbits of information on various topics. The only complaint I would have against this book would be the authors' anecdotes from their own lives. They attempted to relate to teens, but fell short when it came to accuracy. It has been a while since they have been teenagers, and many things have changed in high school. Not only that, but their stories proved to be a bit dull. Other than that, I really did enjoy reading this book, and I look forward to reading other books in this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids love it
Kids love books that don't always appeal to adults. This is one of those books.

3-0 out of 5 stars redundant but fun
I like most of his books but if you have one you have them all.It is also important to follow the age guidelines on these books.Younger children don't get the "joke".

5-0 out of 5 stars For 5 and Up
This book is hilarious! Ted Arnold is a brilliant storyteller-both with words and images. I bought this book for my 2 year old nephew and highly recommend you DON'T read it to a child that age. It freaked him out. I have, however, observed older children reading this book with pleasure. Follow the age recommendation given with the book and the reader will enjoy learning about the body and the humor shared with the protagonist.
