5-0 out of 5 stars Spend the Day in Ancient Greece
I love this book!Tons of SIMPLE yet fun hands-on activities to learn about Ancient Greece.Coupled with Laurie Carlson's books, Kids Create and Classical Kids, my kids are "living" ancient history. From verysimple peplos (like a toga) to a whole set of Greek armor to vases, I havefound these to be very budget and time friendly. Our most recent projectwas making a weaving loom from yarn and a piece of cardboard. My children(ages 5 and 7) loved it! As we homeschool, not only would I buy this bookagain, but we are going to buy "Spend a Day in Ancient Rome" fornext year.My kids especially enjoyed the make-believe story of the twochildren that we "spend the day" with.Excellent! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Illustrations are fabulous, content should be more kid-friendly
The illustrations in this book are very colorful and lively. I liked that each page had a different illustrator, so there is a good variety of visual attraction. However, the language could be simplified so that the content is more appealing to the average young child. As it is, the language seems more geared to an adult audience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learning about Children's Rights to Create Respect for All
In 1989, the United Nations adopted 54 principles in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. If you are like me, you are probably unaware of what these rights are. This beautifully illustrated book captures almost a third of the rights in a way that will help your child expand her or his awareness of the problems that other children face.In the process, you can help your child to learn how to become an effective, caring person. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is a really good book, I'm 12 and I got this book when I was about 10. Still, whenever I'm feeling down or a little upset I always enjoy curling up in bed and reading Real Beauty. It really does make you feel better about yourself. I think It is a very good book for pre-teens and teens.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Real Review On A Book Called Real Beauty
This book tells you what real beauty truely is. And it gives you the whole truth on having real beauty. I thought that this book was really, truely awesome and helpful. Also I think that every girl that's 12 years old should read this book because this book helped me and I think other 12 year old girls should read this book to help themselves with real beauty too. Also I think girls who wear braces and/or glasses would love this book too! So that's my wonderful, real review on a book called Real Beauty!!!! :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars May be for Young Adults, but excellent for everyone
I didn't realize this book was categorized as "Young Adult" since I found it in the new books section of my library.Braude has done a stellar job of representing multiple aspects of the complex issue of womenand american religion. While she takes a chronological approach to thesubject, Braude still manages to represent all religions, includingalternative and native american religions on which much "primaryscholarship" does not exist (and therefore they usually get excludedin overview books like this one).I gained a real understanding of howvarious movements surrounding issues of immigration and within the variousProtestant sects emerged in the larger context of American History.Thisbook is one of a lengthy series on Religion in America, and I plan onseeking out the others to see if the quality is as good. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Illustrations are not very vivid or saturated.
This is a lovely volume at a very attractive price. However, I was disappointed that the illustrations were not as good as I remember. Perhaps in childhood I had a different edition. The colors look somewhat washed out and, while there are many rhymes, there are not many full page illustrations.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sublime and significant
This is an extremely lavishly illustrated book, with excellent typography, detailed lithograph quality period illustrations, excellent color separation, and wonderful line detail. Many pages of this book are suitable for framing.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Beautiful, Always Classic "Mother Goose"!
I recently purchased this book for my new granddaughter and myself. It is beautifully bound in royal purple cloth with gorgeous endpapers and original front page illustrations by Milo Warner. The illustrations throught the book, however, are Blanche Fisher Wright's and they are just as beautiful as the original 1916 ones.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dress, dance, draw, build and play like an Ancient Egyptian
I freely admit that as soon as I saw the over of "Pyramids: 50 Hands-On Activities to Experience Ancient Egypt," that I immediately saw in my mind's eye teachers yoking their students to harnesses so they could drag giant stone blocks around the playground (think of the scenes from "The Ten Commandments"), or subjecting a most unruly student to mummification. Now, all of this would be wrong, very wrong indeed, so you should just stick to what Avery Hart & Paul Mantell come up with for young students to do in this Kaleidoscope Kids book.
5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful creative ideas
This book is packed with many wonderful creative ideas to help children become very involved in learning about ancient Egypt.I was really impressed. We homeschool and found this to be one of the best purchases we've made while learning about this ancient civilization.I should note that online the recommended age is 9-12.However, on the back of the book it is clearly printed for kids ages 6-12.My daughter is 7 and we found it to be age appropriate.

5-0 out of 5 stars What an asset
THis book is jam-packed with great activites and information.I have went through it numerous times and found new things everytime I pick it up. The activities are not difficult and do not require alot of expense to create. 3-0 out of 5 stars Be careful with Native American activities
Apologies--I haven't read this book yet, but I had to say something about this point. While Wiley & Son's activity & craft books are generally outstanding, there is a potentially serious problem with this one. The Hopi and Navajo activities included here should be handled with extreme care.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book brings the Pioneer life into *our* lives.
PIONEER DAYS is a wonderful hands-on approach to teaching our children the pioneer lifestyle. The book follows a ficticious family thru the year 1843 and allows you to learn with your children what life on the homestead waslike, including crafts, recipes, games and more.I would recommend it tohomeschoolers especially as a good source for pioneer study. It has a goodbibliography in the back for additional readings on the time period, including the LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE series. If you are hooked withthis style of learning, there are other titles in this series (AMERICANKIDS IN HISTORY) with which you may continue your study of AmericanHistory. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars How the Stars Fell into the Sky: A Navajo Legend
My son is in 2nd grade and they're doing a unit on Native Americans. We read this book together and enjoyed the story as well as the beautiful illustrations. This book also lends itself to do the shadowbox project that goes along with the class studies. I enjoyed the Navajo concept of how the stars are patterned in the sky. We would recommend this book for the 7-9 year old group. ... Read more

Do you have a child around the age of seven? This magical collection of read-aloud stories has been especially chosen for that age group. It contains forty-one short stories, with a few black and white drawings scattered throughout, that will take you through the entire year of seasons, holidays and birthdays. The one character that accompanies the reader throughout the whole book is Sylvia.Sometimes she is the subject of the story and at other times her mother is telling her a story. You'll read about princes, dragons, animals, fairies and more! This collection is suitable for both boys and girls ages 6 to 8, but most especially seven-year olds. This book is out-of-print in the U.S. and a rare treat when you can find it! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Review by a 5 year old
My son loves the book How Ganesh Got his Elephant Head! I have read it to him and his friends at least a hundred times! Although the author's choice of vocabulary is complicated for a five year old, my son has learned many new words and their meaning.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great book, my daughter loves it, but not 100% authentic
My daughter who is four loves this book.I was a little surprised that she liked it so much, since it is a little advanced for her.The only reason that I do not give it five stars is that the story has been altered slightly to be more palatable to today's kids. For instance, the Gods ask permission from an elephant mother before taking her son's head and putting it on Ganesh's body. This was not in the original story, and since we are talking about a religous text, this is the equivalent of telling children that Jesus drank grape juice instead of wine.Still a great book, but the story has been slightly sugar coated.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful collection of classic Indian stories
Kids ages 6-9 who are sampling multicultural folklore will relish How Ganesh Got His Elephant Head, a wonderful collection of classic Indian stories. Pieter Weltevrede's bright full-page color drawings enhances these Indian classic folk tales, which should be part of any serious picturebook multicultural collection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Book A {atriotic Primer
It is a excellent book for both children and adults.I have purchased this book for my Granddaughter who is 6 years old.

3-0 out of 5 stars Left wing anti-semites don't read this
Why is it that outside Savage and Coulter it is the lefties among us that use the most intemperate language. The absurdity of an anti-semite calling a reasoned intelligent woman like Ms. Cheney a Nazi is laughable. Take a look in the mirror pal

5-0 out of 5 stars YIPPIE-SKIPPIE, Mrs. Cheney!
With patriotic colors of red and blue, symbolic frames and borders full of educational themed graphics of brotherhood, victories and celebrations, the pages of this book BURST with motion "from sea to shining sea".Each page softly depicts the heart-felt words of freedom, equality, constitution, declaration, patriotism, rights, valor and heroes. The modernized historical quotations such as "The noblest question in the world is: What good may I do in it?" from Benjamin Franklin is most encouraging for children who are looking for 'action' around every corner... and what child isn't?My favorite page is "Y... is for YOU and all you will be in this greatest of countries, the land of the free."What a lovely way to connect America's children with their country at an early age while providing a foundational glimpse of the development of America's backbone.YIPPIE-SKIPPIE, Mrs. Cheney... way to go!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely imperative if you are a woman
I consider myself quite well informed about current women's issues, but had always wondered what the impetus was behind Title IX. I had no idea that the law we hear about that applies to women's equal access to sports, was aimed at equal access to college admissions and financial assistance.I cried several time while reading this book; I was mad at the earlier treatment of women, I was saddened by the personal stories of disappointment suffered by the women who were shut out of playing games they loved only because they were girls.I was also proud of the triumphs of the recent past, but mostly I was moved to buy another copy and pass it around to as many women as I can.ANY WOMAN WHO HAS PLAYED SPORTS OR GONE TO COLLEGE IN THE LAST 30 YEARS, OWES IT TO THEMSELVES TO READ, APPRECIATE, AND SHARE THIS BOOK WITH THE NEXT GENERATION OF GIRLS.Laurie in Utah

5-0 out of 5 stars Linking women's equality to Title IX
Let Me Play puts a passionate perspective on the plight of women in the fight to obtain simple civil liberties and human equalities. Author Karen Blumenthal presents her work in a format targeted to a young audience, making this easily manageable book appealing to people of all ages that appreciate the continuing battle for equal rights.
5-0 out of 5 stars Much-needed history for today's young women
I'm so glad to see a history for today's young women about what it was like before Title 9 - which, while it wasn't that long ago, seems unreal to my daughter's generation. I remember The Days Before, when the boys got the gym and were formed into athletic teams while the girls got WHAT PASSED for PE - calisthenics in the cafeteria! (and instructional time was used to move the tables and chairs aside)

5-0 out of 5 stars Spark Great Conversation in Your Home!
My 7 and 9 year-old sons love this book.It talks to them about real experiences they have to deal with every day in real life such as losing stuff, games, and confidence. I had thought we would skip the parts that donot apply to our experiences, such as losing a body part or a loved one,but they want to hear it all.We read this book aloud and it generatesgreat family conversation. The boys kept having me renew the library copyI had, so I had to get my own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lost and Found: A Kid's Book for Living Through Loss
Talks about the good that can counter balance loss in life.It starts with minor loss (things), then pets, friends, (moving, etc.), then death. It says it is good for someone as young as 8 years old, but mine would notlisten to the first chapter. Is has a "lecturing" quality tosomeone less informed. It also makes some good points.Contains black andwhite illustrations.I would recommend this one to students from the 4thgrade up, as well as teachers and parents. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Little Krishna
A wonderful book for children and adults interested in Hinduism. The illustrations are spectacular. Even though the story is from an ancient time the lessons learned are about life and showcase the importance of a mothers love for her child, a theme that will cross all language barriers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent children's book
I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish it had been longer. Great artwork and wonderful summaries of Krishna's boyhood days. ... Read more
