Kid's Review
I actually give this book four and half stars. I liked it a lot and it had lots of good advice about how to be a good friend.It described how I feel when I feel shy. I am five and almost three quarters and my sister who is two liked it also.
Autism Spectrum lifesaver..
.. and should be listed as such.My daughter loves this book, she is very intent as we read it, which means she is taking it in.She has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, which is a high-functioning form of autism.These kids have difficulty with social situations, and they are visual learners, so this is awesome.

great for girls
With caddiness starting at even earlier ages these days, I bought this book to help my 6 year old daughter understand that not everyone demostrates good friendship. She's so sensitive and doesn't understand why others don't respect her feelings. This book reiterates how to be a good friend and how not to be. It praises being kind and caring so it reinforced what she knew to be correct behavior. The illustrations she recognized immediately to be Marc Brown's adorable and colorful characters. A Magical Story of Love and Hope
This is one of the most inspirational children's books I have ever read. The message is simple but powerful and an inspiration for all. It is part Pinocchio,part Pride of the Yankees, and it works. For anyone who has ever had a child go through any kind of serious illness, it is a wonderful reminder of how sometimes the smallest thing can suddenly reach out to that child and bring them back to you, and how you should never give up fighting. For those who have lost a child, it is a powerful lesson in love, hope and strength. For those whose lives have never been touched by serious childhood illness, it is a chance to reach out and hug your own kids and realize just how special each and every child is and how much they bless your life. It's all about believing, and the message comes through loud and clear. This book should be on every child's bookshelf, in every classroom and in every library. It is a story to read again and again. good for younger children
This is a lovely book that addresses the loss of a loved one in simple terms. It also explains that young people can die of tragic and sudden events and does not merely focus on grandparents (as many others do). I highly recommend this book.

Two people on a Grief Care team at our church reviewed this book and believe it is a very good book for children.Information is presented in a way that is easy to understand, but that allows for questions.Good information in the back of the book for parents or loved ones to guide them as they work with their children.

Excellent Book for Parents of Teens & Pre-teens
Great hands-on advice for learning how to love your pre-teen and teenager.I wish now that I had this book when my first daughter was a teen.

Excellent Christian resource on parenting teens
The Five Love Languages for Teenagers by Gary Chapman is a book every parent needs to own.I'll admit, I went looking for a quick fix with this book.The other Love Languages books have a quiz in the back to help you identify your language, and that's right where I went with this book: to the back.I was disappointed to find no quiz in this book, but Chapman explains that teenagers would be quick to figure out how to manipulate the system if they knew that we were trying to figure them out.The book discusses the five love languages as broken down in Chapman's other books in this series, but directs them specifically at how teenagers are affected by them.I learned so much from this book about how to talk to my kids and that both of my teens are quality time people.During the course of reading this book, I've seen a change in my daughter already.She's spent more time talking to me, because I've spent more time listening to her.This is a book I will purchase for my own bookshelf and continue the practices in it for the next 17 years (until my three-year-old turns 20).

Every Child needs to sit on a pumkin at least as big as they are!
I discovered and checked this book out for the first time a few weeks after I had taken my son to the pumkin farm, and after Thanksgiving had passed. We were delighted with the beautiful artwork (colored pencil drawings).The texture and dimension in the artwork is exquisite.The simple story line is perfect for the young child of 2-5.Jamie is met with a variety of curious animals while he pursues a journey of growing and harvesting his very own pumpkin, carving it, decorating his face for Halloween (you hardly notice this in the soft hues of the artwork, but his pet dog certainly does)and saving the seeds for the next season (six, to be exact). It would make a fine early reader as well for a k-2 reader.Nice book!

All the children I've read this too loved it.!
I got this book many years ago, when I took care of a class of 4 year olds.They loved this book and read the book with me.Now that I have a child of my own (almost 2 years old) it is his favorite book.I read it sometimes 10 times a day and it has wonderful illustrations.I never tire of it and am looking to buy more of Jeanne Titherington's books.

Good for teachers
I teach English to a fifth grade that had very little instruction in the past. I gave this book to three girls and they could understand the meaning of words using the picture clues.One of them had never heard the word pumpkin before, let alone sprout or seed. Now they all have a better vocabulary. Last year I read the same book to a first grade that did not have English classes. I used the story to teach plant growth and sequence concepts.The year before I had also used it to teach subtraction and backward counting - Jamie saved 6 seeds. He plants one. Take the scary out of ADHD for your kid
My [...] is a good reader so this book was at his level. However, we both sat down and read through it. It gave me some great hints as well as helping him to view his problem as managable. He especially liked the illustrations and puzzles scattered throughout the book - clearly with ADHD kids in mind! I am currently plowing through some adult books on ADHD and I keep referring back to this book for a more straight forward approach.

Great book
I got this book when my son was first diagnosed with ADHD and it is wonderful.It helped me understand what he was going through and him understand that he was just different.This book helped him to realize that he wasn't alone and that there are ways to help him help himself.My son feels that he has more control of things and is not afraid to ask questions or for help when needed. He not embarrased by ADHD it's just part of who he is.

Not Under 13, But Whatever This is a great read
This book only received four stars because on its own it's not spectacular, but as an extension of the Bloody Jack series it does hold its own. This book is a good follow-up to the other Bloody Jack books.It's not the most rollicking tale of the bunch, but gives readers a more subtle adventure.Although I found the the main body of the book a tad tedious, I still enjoyed it as a whole.Jacky's colorful cahracter carries the story along when it starts to drag, as do the personalities of the other girls.One of my favorite parts of the book is when Jacky tells stories of her life on the streets in London.It gives you a better glimpse at her past and how far she has come from the little beggar of her childhood.I will warn you though, the ending is a killer cliff-hanger.

Once again, Jacky Faber kicks pirate booty...
I am a huge fan of the Jacky Faber series -- just like everyone else who has discovered these awesome books by L.A. Meyer. I've read every one of Meyer's previous books, and loved all of them. Each time, I figured there was absolutely no way he could top the previous one. And each time, I'm stunned to find that he has. 'In the Belly of the Bloodhound' is no different. Once again, Meyer has written a heck of a story that's even better than his last. Like all the others, 'In the Belly of the Bloodhound' was an incredibly fast read -- a book that I could not put down. It's entertaining and definitely won't put you to sleep like some other 'teen' books assigned in school. I have no doubt that this book is headed for a blockbuster movie, once Hollywood discovers Jacky Faber. I'm sure actresses will be lining up to play her. In the meantime, I'm hoping L.A. Meyer is back home writing his next pirate tale. Aye, Cap'n, he's good as gold.

Loving this series.....
I wasn't going to get this title for my nine year old.I thought she was too young.But she REALLY wanted it, telling me, "Mom, I've had tons of crushes already!"I bought it and read it first.While I still think she's a little young for some of the information (especially the "going together" section toward the end), a lot of it was very age appropriate.Rather than just give it to her, we are reading it together.(Thankfully I have a very open and trusting daughter who doesn't get embarrassed by "growing up" issues.)I explained to her that reading about these things does not give her permission to do them.

Ummm to the lady who said not to buy this I have a question for you; why do u care how its worded? This is a book for girls to be comfortable with, not something from a psychology book! consider that! and your knitpicking! U must have no life to complain about wording. Anyway the book is awesome! It helped my daughter become comfortable enough to talk to me about her crushes! She is totally ready!~

Don't Give This to Your Kids
This is a poorly worded and confusing book. This is a good way to get them to be shallow, dumb them down, get them into hellish relationships, and send them running to therapists who themselves need therapy. Giving this to them as a gift is also a good way to insult their intelligence.

Entertaining with a sweet lesson
We bought this for our preschooler to help him understand the everyday life that happens at school, especially all of those unwritten, social playground rules that can be hard for kids to take in.

I used this book as a teaching tool in my new student group. The students loved the story and how a new student can shake up the recess bully just by inviting her to play. I used the story as a tool for teaching about bullying and means for stopping the bullying. Great story!

**TEEN READER**BEST BOOK I EVER READ!It is truely AMAZING
I have to say reading the comment above made me pretty sad. This book was not sending mixed messages and it is definately NOT telling you to be popular and that your parents will only love you more if you get good grades. This book is simply about helping yourself become more of what you want and getting more out of the life you were delt with. It makes me so sad to hear bad things about this book becuase that review probably stopped someone from buying this amazing book.

well.. of course a person like me would have to read what people though before i wrote what i thought! i think that the people that don't like this book need help! why in the world would rich people not have problems!! and there is way more to these people than you think!! just because some of you are shallow and can't use your imagination and have fun with some of the jokes he throws at you doesn't mean you need to get mad!! grow up! there are more people who know that that book was good and i happen to believe strongly in what he wrote!! yes i have money but no i don't have the perfect life promise!! so just because a person has money does not make them unknowledgeable about real life! so think to yourself again maybe you just need to read between the lines or maybe your life was to perfect but i know that this really helped me and i am doing some of the things that he said and it has helped me alot through everything i have been through!!

AMUSTHAVEFORCHILDRENWHO HAVEFEARS.
I have read this book with my two boys ages 8 and 10. We all have anxiety in different degrees and I am trying to help them to learn to cope and move forward. I cannot recommend this book enough to loved ones and parents who have children with fears or worries that are causing problems in their daily functioning. I have read many books on this subject and never found one as good as this for children and even for adults to use. I would not think twice about buying this book if anyone in your home struggles with fears. Bravo for finally writing a book on this subject that children can use. Childhood is where we need to begin to help in this area.

One of the best self-help books for children ever written
As a child and family therapist, I am constantly searching for books to use with the children that I work with. I am usually disappointed with most books that address problems of childhood, because they either treat the subjects too lightly and offer no real solutions for children who have already used the obvious ideas, or are far too complex for the average child to relate to. This book is wonderful. Not only is it written in extremely child-friendly terms, it is comprehensive and gives many good-quality, proven techniques for dealing with fear and anxiety. Read more

Spectacular series!
I started reading these books before the summer started and Im hooked! To live like Massie Block and her friends would be like living among the gods. Sure they are spoiled snobs that we all hate to love, but, Hello?? we're entertained by it. Thats the important thing that we read a good story that keeps us entertained and we want to read more, and more of them. Lisi Harrison should be one happy camper. Cause I don't know anyone who doesn't like her books. THUMBS UP!!!!!!!!!!

i luv this book!!
when i first saw this book, i thought it would be another one of thosesame, old, never-ending popular book about the lives of popular girls, but i was dead wrong! i was bored and started reading the first book and i was hooked! i couldn't drop the books... and i'm not that big of a reader. this book is my favorite one so far... i think. i'm not done with the series yet. the book shows that although some girls can look cool and pretty on the outside, they do have the problems that other girls may have and the solutions are crazy and entertaining. i luv this book and the other clique series book. read it! =] ... Very Helpful Book
Okay, so most of us girls have seen "Ask Fill-in-the-Blank" and "Advice Column".Andmost of us have heard "Fill-in-Name-of-Celebrity is going to be on Fill-in-Name-of-TV-Show tonight to give friendship advice".But most of it, though not all of it, isn't helpful.I found this book interesting and fun to read, while also very helpful.There were a lot of feelings and troubles that I could relate to, and a lot of good advice and stories that girls, having friendship troubles or not, need to read.The quizzes were fun to take, but I wouldn't take the results TOO, TOO seriously.They are about the most accurate quizzes there are friendship-wise, but if you listen too carefully to the ranking, rating, etc. you come out as, you could end up breaking off a friendship that could've been rescued.Overall, I think this book is both entertaining and useful at the same time.Though I don't agree with some of the things that they say, I think most of the advice was really good.I would recommend this book to all girls. ... A great book!
I have read all of the books in this series and they were all amazing. This one was one that caught my attention more than the other ones just because all of the girls in the book are more independent and rebelious. It is a classic girly girl book that keeps you on your toes. I couldn't put it down! It took me only a day to read and it was killing me that I hadn't yet read the last book. I highly recomend it to anyone that likes love stories with a little twist! It tells the story of four girls Bridget, Carmen, Tibby, and Lena. They have been best friends for their whole life and have to again seperate for the summer. Each girl goes to their summer destinations. This can not tear them apart of course, they write to eachother and pass around a pair of pants. These aren't any ordinary pants though they are magical. They bring good luck to each girl and fits each of their very different shapes. A symbol of friendship and love that is with them, like a blanket. Put this on your top for "must read!"

Girls in Pants is the sequel to the sisterhood books 1 & 2. This book is about 4 teenage girls who have magic pants that fits all of them and brings them good luck. The book tells you about thier lives the summer before they all go of to college.
The Septembers are growing up...well, partly, anyway.
Tibby, Lena, Carmen and Bee are now 17 and have just graduated from high school. All are looking toward college in the fall. Not all of them eagerly, but at least with the knowledge that college will help each reach a desired goal. Tibby is planning to go to film school at NYU; Lena wants to go to art school in New Jersey; Carmen to Williams; and Bee, well Bee could go anywhere she wanted. Every school to which she applied accepted her. She chose Brown.

Sweet story
This is a wonderful story for any child who has ever felt left out.Leo is tiny and can't make his light shine.He is teased by the other lightning bugs.His mom tells him to keep trying and he'll succeed.After practicing over and over, he finally figures out how to light his light.The other bugs stop teasing him and he learns to laugh at himself, an important lesson for the younger child.I have a 6 year old and an 8 1/2 year old and they both love this story.The illustrations are wonderful.

My two nephews love this book & CD!
This lovely and lively story became an instant favorite of my two young nephews -- which is saying a lot considering that their bookshelf is well stocked!The CD that accompanies the book (making the price a real bargain) is no afterthought -- it is just as rich in detail and as well-produced as the book itself.And having a CD of the book comes in very handy when the boys are in the mood to hear the story AGAIN (and again and again and again...)

An awesome book!
The Sister Hood of the Traveling Pants is an awesome book.It talks about the trials and tribulations about four teenage girls who have to be separated for the summer.It may not seem like a big deal but it is to them because they have been friends their whole lives.Their moms met in a yoga class when they were pregnant.All of the girls end up in different places of the world: Lena ends up in Greece, Carmen leaves for her dad's house, Bridgett travels to Baja Mexico for a soccer camp, and Tibby stays at home.Before they are about to separate, they find this pair of pants that Carmen got at the thrift store.It fits them all perfectly, as if by magic.So, they make up the sisterhood and make up all of the rules.They record all of their adventures of the pants at the end of the summer and share them with each other.Its' a great story and I would encourage anybody to read it.

Anderson has a very interesting writing style in Speak. She sets her book up to be like a report card, each section signified by the marking periods of a school year--starting with first marking period to forth marking period. Each of the four sections is a chronological explanation for why Melinda is the way she is. Within the "marking periods" the sections are indicated with a title telling the reader what she will be talking about. The passages are written much like a play format. Anderson is very descriptive in her text. With each dialog is a bracket explaining what the person talking is doing, wearing, or gesturing, much like she is directing a play and the actors need to know how to stand or move. Her language is sophisticated yet simple. She writes to an older audience. She uses pronouns like "IT," talking about Andy and "Them," to address her parents. Her usage of the pronouns allows the reader to feel the separation from the characters. By calling Andy "IT," she is letting the reader know that he is a character she would like to forget and could care less about. Calling her parents Them, excludes her from feeling like she is a part of them. Anderson spells words wrong so it seems as if it could be a diary and the narrator, Melinda, is reflecting upon what happened but cannot spell. It allows the reader to connect to Melinda better.

a haunting, painful read
This book is painful, but then again, so is teenage life for many young people.Those who have felt alone, scared, confused and without a voice will not only feel Melinda's pain, but her triumph as she finally finds her voice. However, it is the people who never felt like her at all who need to read this book most of all.Maybe it will help them understand the trials that many of our young ones are going through so that we can find ways to show them that they are not alone.

It'll Shake You Up and Set You Down Again
When I began this book, I didn't like it.It was so negative, and absolutely depressing.There's a reason for that.It's about a girl who is suffering through depression over something that happened.It's written in first person, so you feel everything she feels.Her depression really gets into your head.You go through everything--from the depression to the recovery--yourself.At the end, things start getting lighter, freer, and after the rest of the book, it's such a release.I do recommend this book, for people who are going through depression themselves.It has mature content--probably not suited for the average 12- or 13-year-old--but I recommend it to people--even young people--who have gone through or are going through the same things.The ending makes up for all the negativity throughout the book. ... That was then , this is now
The theme of the story "This was then this is now" is changed throughout the story the boys Mark and Bryon seem to be in school and walking down the streets most of the time and wondering anywhere there situation is. The aspect of the story I personally liked was that Mark and Bryon are in different situations, like Bryon has a girlfriend that mark and is constantly getting into street fights and mark is jealous of Bryon having a girlfriend. And at the same time mark seems to be coming up with money and can't control himself and won't seem to quit most of the time. The aspects that weren't so interesting to me were that Bryon gets into street fights the were caused by the stupidest things and doesn't want to resolve the problems he just wants to fight all the time and he gets tired of fighting already. I think that images that Hinton put out were very persuading to the person whose reading the book, because he said how Bryon sticks up for mark in a fight and how there on the streets dealing with the problems, I also thought that the main characters were believable because I would think the boys were just the typical best friends that get in to situations that the boys get into in the story.The story was an adventure that two best friends have in a lifetime.

Oustanding, Hard Hitting
As a 7th Grade Language Arts teacher in search ofgood book for my students, I hit a home run with this one.Wow! Powerful!
