5-0 out of 5 stars This is what did it
DD found this book at the library and wanted it read to her CONSTANTLY, around the time she seemed to be getting interested/willing to try the potty. She liked it so much I went and bought her her own copy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book for my Daughter
My daughter really seeems to pay attention when I read this to her and she seems to understand about the potty.I bought this book and the "Too Big for Diapers" book with Ernie featured. She liked the "Too Big for Diapers" book she knew Ernie. She really related to this book because it was about another little girl. I would recommend both, unless you have a little boy then I would a book about a little boy.

4-0 out of 5 stars An art educators delight.
Learning Through Art is a wonderful teacher tool to expose students to art and artists through fun filled reading, writing, and observational activities. Many students have never visited or explored a museum. Learning Through Art gives students a feeling they have been able to visit a museum to discover and learn about art, art history, and art of many cultures. I share this book with students at the beginning of every school year and they love the activities. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Anything by this author is good.
My daughter (2) is a little young for this book yet, but I read it and think it is wonderful for children. If you have children about 6 or older who are having a difficult time or are angry about something, this book would be great. Even if your children are happy though, there are wonderful lessons here for everyone and that can help the world to become a more peaceful place.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very different

I really enjoyed reading this book. The Authors did a great job of telling these amazing stories.I have heard of the organization that Dr. Morsch started and of all the great things they have done.I would encourage everyone who feels like there is something missing in their life or anyone that is searching for lifes meaning to read this. There really is power that comes from serving others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, challenging
I picked this book up after it was recommended by one of my favorite authors, Donald Miller. It's short but does a great job of sharing the authors' hearts concerning learning to see peoples' needs and further, figuring out ways in which we can meet those needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Presicion through simplicity
As an individual unfamiliar with the nuances of AS, I found "My Social Stories Book" particularly effective in identifying, conveying and demystifying what is mundane for most people, but what can be overwhelming for those with AS.Sean McAndrew's brilliant translation of the text via child-friendly illustrations relevant to their respective scenarios are what make a publication like this one truly work.Much like crosswalk symbols, these illustrations must be absolutely simplistic in order to be unmistakeably understood. Much respect to McAndrew who rendered the abstract idea of divorce in such tender illustrative grace.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great story of friendship, art, and puns, too!
This terrific book recounts the rivalry and eventual friendship of Picasso and Matisse, er, ah, excuse me...I meant, Pigasso and Mootisse. The protagonists in this story live across the street from each other and first hurl insults like,"You paint like a wild beast", (that's called "fauvism" for all you art lovers or snobs out there!) while Mootisse retorts, "You are pig-headed".Throughout, the paint and puns fly.

5-0 out of 5 stars great
it has great pictures and is short but to the point that for things to work out well there needs to be rules.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reinforcement of concepts taught at home and school!
I bought every title in this series (13 so far). And while they may seem a little expensive I truly believe they are worth it becuase of the positive social lessons they teach. The books are simply worded and straightforward.Because of this, they would also be very good for children with special needs. They are uncluttered, the print is large and they are ever so cutely illustrated.I'm sure you will love them and I know your child will learn something from them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Counselor Kim
I love this book!I'm an Elementary School Counselor and I use it for Classroom Guidance. It's also been fantastic with my toddler! The pictures are so bright and engaging. When we have one of those naughty moments, when all is calm again we read the book.He really enjoys it. The message is simple enough for him but also hits home with early elementary kids.I highly recommend this book as well as the whole series--"Learning to Get Along". ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars cute book but not ideal to teach about "not hitting"
I ordered this book to reinforce with my 2 year old why hitting is wrong. My son doesn't hit alot, but at age 2, he gets angry and doesn't know how to express his feelings.I was hoping that a picture book might help him to identify his emotions and maybe identify some empathy for the person on the receiving end of the hitting.
3-0 out of 5 stars Examples are a little odd
I agree with the reviewer that found it odd that one of the examples in the book suggested that instead of sticking out your tongue you should lick an ice cream cone.?? The examples were a little strange and the book isn't completely focused on hitting.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not as Good
This book is true to form, beautiful colored images that young children love to look at, but the story is weird. It talks about how to deal with frustration other than through hitting. However the advice didn't really make sense...the author writes that instead of sticking your tongue out at someone, stick your tongue and lick an ice cream cone instead....????? I didn't get it, and I didn't want my kids expecting me to give them ice cream everytime they got angry!

5-0 out of 5 stars We Love Red Beans!
I really LOVE this multicultural food series in board book format. The collage illustrations along with the simple, rhyming text are perfect for both child and adult to enjoy! I also appreciate the word glossary, which is provided at the end of the book. Good rhythm and flow throughout the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars SO cute, love this entire series
Bought this, my first book of sushi & let's nosh - my son LOVES them. They are very clever little books and I love that they are short, whitty and fun to read (especially when your toddler wants you to read the same book over 20 times in a row...it better be fun:) I also just bought this for my sister's new baby girl and she loves it too. These are a must have in a baby/toddler's library. WARNING: make sure you've eaten before reading - book will make you hungry!

3-0 out of 5 stars An interesting idea for a book
The art is neat and interesting, the rhymes are awkward. We like it because we eat dim sum with the Chinese side of our family, and take our daughter to dim sum whenever possible. At 16 mos old, she is not at all interested in this book yet (if ever) although she loves most of her books. It is possible she will grow into it as she makes the connections between the book and Chinatown. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great resource!
We live our whole childhood trying to figure out who we really are, and now there is a book to help our kids explore their personalities even deeper. It contains 40 fun and easy-to-follow psychological tests that offer a wide range of insights into a child's personality. At the end of the book, there is a summary sheet to tie together all the results in a nice and easy to understand manner. This is a great book for parents to share with their grade-school kids, and the best thing about these tests is that there are NO WRONG ANSWERS!!

3-0 out of 5 stars not what I hoped
This book does have a lot of self-discovery experiments- in fact that's pretty much all it has. There isn't much information included to validate the experiments or to explain why they are significant to psychology. However, the book does refer you to other sources.I ordered the book, hoping to use it with my High School Gifted class but found that the text was a bit too juvenille. This book could be a good supplement to a psychology unit, but it is not something from which to teach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great conversation kick-starters!
My kids and I spend Sunday mornings taking hikes and having long discussions about life, religion, school, etc.We take this book along on our hikes as our springboard for discussion.I read the questions out loud and let the kids answer them, and sometimes add on my own opinions when they're done.It gives me a chance to chime in about what I think is important and it keeps us talking.I think these conversations also help build empathy, understanding, and listening skills, as well as helping us to all remember to think before we speak. Some of the questions are lighthearted and some are more serious, and none so far have proven to be offensive to my family's ethics. My kids enjoy the questions, especially my nine-year-old son, and look forward to our hikes & talks all week long.I'm thrilled to get glimpses into my kids' heads on topics that are well worth discussing but might not otherwise come up in conversation.

5-0 out of 5 stars perspectives through kids answers
I've used this book with my own kids, and I've used it in my classroom. It was enjoyed by so many students that I hate to say it, but one student walked off with it at the end of the year. I work in a school where a lot of the kids are at risk, and this book was wonderful as a tool to help them examin their attitudes, their fears, and their feelings about things. It takes a little time to look through and evaluate what would be good for your classroom. That's a subjective thing anyway, and you have to know your students, but over all, I find this book to be worthwhile and fun at the same time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Much more appropriate for class than its predecessor
I use this in my public speaking class to start discussion groups.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensible Resource For Those Dealing with AD(H)D Student
This book is an invaluable aide for parents, educators, and professionals dealing with the challenges faced by AD(H)D students in school. It is a book that can be given directly to students as well. Written in a clear, visually appealing format, it presents worksheets and quick exercises thatguide the late grade school, middle school or high school student to anunderstanding of how this disorder affects their ability to learn. Itprovides information such as how to choose and adopt various studytechniques that will help children with AD(H)Dbecome successful students. It coaches students in using active study techniques to remember what theyread, or to develop written reports. Students are not resistant to usingthe concepts because of how they are presented and is a book that hasapplication to non ADHD students as well. I highly recommend this workbookand have found it much more much more useful that the "Putting on theBrakes" book by the same authors. Of all the self help books I havelent out to people, this is one that people use so much they forget toreturn it! I just keep buying more copies because I don't want to bewithout the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Basic.
It is a good book. It shows their are consequences for rude behavior. Not even Papa Bear is excluded. Mama Bear is right in her rules of being polite, but so is Papa Bear in sometimes people have to interrupt, etc. I give it four stars overall.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for manners
We love this book in our house. It teaches what happens when a home runs amuck with bad manners. Shoving, name calling, blaming, throwing food, you name it, the bears have it and mama is tired of it.So, she puts together the bear family manners plan and if they forget them, then they have certain chores they have to do as reminders. Now, I agree with the other reviewer that chores as a punishment isn't exactly the best approach, but when they're chores that normally are not pleasant (such as cleaning up after an animal's waste) and have to be divided equally, then I can see the punishment factor coming into play there as being appropriate.I've emptied cat boxes most of my life and I still don't enjoy doing it so I can see that as being an effective punishment for bad manners.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
The world lost a real gem of a writer when Stan Berenstain passed on November 29.Together, Berenstain and his wife, Jan, and eventually their two sons, created books featuring lovable but flawed characters who tackle just about every real issue that faces families.

For the sake of the future of this country we must hope that the insanity manifested here dosn't get passed on to the next generation. These are the people who maintain that believing in individualism as opposed to a "more collective ideology" is "Cultural Racism."So... down with the Declaration of Independence and the pursuit of happiness, down with self reliance, and, ultimately, up with Big Brother. This increasingly is the philosophy of the educational establishment.Heaven help us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really cute
The pictures in this book are really cute, and it makes a great gift for moms who are more likely to dress their baby in a black onesie instead of something frilly and covered in ruffles. It is the modern life of the cool baby explained!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hip board book for urban dwellers
This has to be the best board book I have read in a while! I work as a librarian in a trendy area, and it so reflects the activities and lifestyle of the hip hot mama set in my neighbourhood. Gap babies, Running room joggers, yoga and more. If you know someone with a baby - tell them to get this book!5-0 out of 5 stars Fun in the City

5-0 out of 5 stars COLORFUL - in every way!
My kids love turning the pages of this book - the colors and freshness of the illustrations are very eye-catching.Most importantly, the message is a natural, beautiful one about color and skin.My 2nd grader is studying a unit on Ellis Island and immigration and how America has been built by many people from different nations. This book is a great complement to their studies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Our Littlest Reader Gives "Beautiful Skin" 5 Stars
This rhythmic poem with pictures of children, encourages each of us to look in the mirror and celebrate who we are and the joy of friendship. This is a collection of simply presented thoughts about self-esteem, acceptance, and diversity. Our Preschooler loves the the rhymes and talks to the children staring at her from the page. We've had nightly requests for this book for more than a week now. What a great book! The message is visible in simple phrases with comparative language that young readers can comprehend. It offers kids a positive, new way to look at the world. Parents will enjoy the book as much for its fun as for its message. The illustrations are bright and engaging; and the poem is just what you want to introduce acceptance and the beauty of diversity ... without being onerous or dour. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book amused myself and others!
I received this book for Christmas and it is one of my favorite books. It has crafts and activities ranging from preserving flowers in wax to turning an old straw hat into a drawstring bag. Along with fun crafts and games, and even interior decorating, this book shows one how life was like back in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This book is over 100 years old, and the activities are still really fun and easy to do! I recommend this book to any girl, young or old!

5-0 out of 5 stars A book of exuberant charm
Sure, it might be a little outdated, but it's a great glimpse into a past time. And today's kids would probably enjoy the chance to do some old-fashioned things described in this book, like making their own hammock or refurbishing some old furniture. The instructions for painting and drawing and basic and useful, and many of the ideas presented are things forgotten about and could stand resurrection.Lots of attention paid to girls getting exercise and being healthy, contrary to modern perceptions of Victorian women.Good for parents and teachers, and kids who are fond of history and open to old-fashioned ideas.

4-0 out of 5 stars A 1887 Gem!
For mothers who are not ashamed to have their young girls grow up knowing "feminine" arts, this book is a gem! There are some complicated projects (hammock making) which most of us would not have time orinclination to do, but others (corn husk dolls, botanic art, flowerpressing, and home-made candy recipes) which any mother could help evenvery young daughters accomplish. In addition to the projects resource thatit is, the book is a homey, nostalgic history of the things which used tooccupy the time of young women preparing for homekeeping. ... This is the last of the four Mrs Piggle-Wiggle books, but it was probably my favourite when I was little - I loved horses as a little girl, and these stories include a pony. My parents read the Mrs Piggle-Wiggle books when they were kids, and these books have been a family tradition.5-0 out of 5 stars A children's classic
I grew up reading the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series. I loved every single story and I still remember them vividly. They may be a little dated but the lessons are still current and they are still very amusing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book. I'm ordering them for my daughter!
I remember sitting in the library when I was little reading Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books over and over again.I loved everyone one of her "cures" and now that I have a daughter of my own I want her tohave her own copies of these classics from my childhood. ... Read more
