My Dog Never Says Please is as silly as Amelia Bedlia dusting furniture with dusting powder.First, you have a girl who acts, eats, and does everything like a dog.Second, you have her little brother correcting her on her manners. Finally, you get the girl to realize that she doesn't want to be a dog.I would highly recommend this book to any parent who wants to read to their kids.I also recommend this book to read to kids who need to learn that you may not want something you may just want it because someone else has it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heroes Who Changed the World
In SCIENTIST, HEALERS, AND INVENTORS, Wade Johnson provides a wealth of information about famous African-Americans who have made ingenious contributions. The book contains not only entries for several well-known individuals such as Benjamin Banneker and Madame C. J, Walker, it also includes several lesser-known individuals such as Susie King Taylor, a Civil War Nurse, and Jan Ernst Matzeliger, the inventor of the shoelasting machine (a machine that allowed for the mass production of shoes).5-0 out of 5 stars Concise and succinct biographies
Book Of Black Heroes: Scientists Healers And Inventors by Wade Hudson is an impressive survey of learned and able African-American men and women compiled and presented especially for young readers. Each individual page features a photograph of a notable personage from the nineteenth or twentieth centuries, accompanied by a concise and succinct biography summarizing his or her life and achievements. A truly great introduction to remarkable and intelligent people of color who made their mark on history and science itself, Wade Hudson's Book Of Black Heroes is a welcome and highly recommended addition to personal, family, school, or community any Black History collection for children. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Gave Me an Awkward Feel
from Blue Jean Online (www.bluejeanonline.com)5-0 out of 5 stars A great new addition to the Girlfriends family
True to the form of the other books in the best-selling Girlfriends book series, Teen Girlfriends zeroes in on friendship as today's teen girls experience it. Friendships in adolescence have their ups and downs, and this book reassures girls that what they're going through with their friends is normal. The girls interviewed are candid to the point that every girl who so much as skims the pages will relate to some, if not most of, the material.Girls' connections with their friends are especially critical now, during this time of national challenges, and this grounded-in-reality book is the perfect comfort and companion. Every one ofAmerica's daughters, granddaughters, and nieces deserves a copy!2-0 out of 5 stars Eh, so so
I read a variety of teen books, then give reviews on them to the local bookstore which I work at. This book may stand out from the rest because it actually quotes what others teens themselves have to say on various topics. However, it lacks content and appears to be like many other teen books, addressing similar issues in similar ways. It won't bore you but it definitely won't leave you breathless. If you want a book with the same edge but filled with content try "Stories for a Teen's Heart" by Alice Gray or even Wade F. Horn's "New Teen Book." I can't think of many other books of this nature but the lack of content spoils a lot of the originality of this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids and adults
This is my first review for Amazon.I felt compelled to write about this book because I find it to be so fun and educational for me and my children. The book uses letters, both upper and lower case, to create pictures that begin with that letter. The letter "m" is my favorite because it uses the whole word "mouse" to create a picture of a mouse. We've been doing a letter a day at our house.I take a sheet of paper and draw a big letter and fill it in with something (for instance today is W day and I filled in the big W to look like a watermelon), then we draw the pictures from this book.Today it was witch and walrus. Most of the drawings are simple enough for my 5 year old to do, and I (a 35 year old) am able to do all of them :)Many of the pages have little side pictures in addition to the main pictures that also use the letters. My only wish for this book would be for more of the letters to include these "extra" pictures, since I have no imagination!Otherwise, a wonderful book.

4-0 out of 5 stars D is for Doodle
This is a great book. For children who love to doodle/draw it is great fun. Also, a great way for children to learn their letters capital and lower case and also the letter sounds. Great fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Oodles of Great Doodles
D is for Doodle is full of ingenious, fun and yet simple to draw cartoons. My daughter loves the way Deborah Zemke turns letters and shapes into animals and characters. My daughter loves to try new doodles and D is for Doodle also inspires to make up her own doodle characters. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars More Big Bang for your buck
If you were to walk up to me as I sat at my Children's Reference Desk in my library and ask me to come up with as many picture books written by Unitarians that I could think of, you'd have me stumped. And if you were to walk up to me and ask me to come up with as many spiritual Big Bang picture books as I could think of, you'd have me stumped. In general, I'm pretty easy to stump. Now I've at least one book to consider should either question come flying at my Reference Desk from parts unknown. We have, before us, "The Everything Seed".Coming via the publisher Tricycle Press, the book is a kind of experiment in combining a worthy subject alongside beautiful art, then failing to package the title in a pleasing manner.Do not, under any circumstances, get me wrong here. This is a book that definitely fills a need.Just the same, it would have been nice if the publisher could have granted this title the care and attention it so richly deserved.
2-0 out of 5 stars Only one detail awry, but it's the big one.
The Everything Seed was read as a story-for-all-ages in my church recently. It is a beautiful book that seems at first glance to be giving preschoolers an engaging foretaste of the mystery and grandeur alive in our best current understanding of how the universe developed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Acknowledging the spiritual aspect of all creation
The Everything Seed: A Story Of Beginnings is written by Carole Martignacco (an ordained minister serving the Unitarian Universalist Church of North Hatley, Quebec, Canada) and illustrated by Joy Troyer (a Batik artist and seminary student). This the story of the very first seed, the one that unfold to become everything in the Universe. Author Carole Martignacco incorporates scientific theories while acknowledging the spiritual aspect of all creation in a work that will resonate with young readers of all religions and denominational backgrounds. The batik illustrations are beautiful, simple, elegant, and perfectly showcase a story of our beginnings that is as thoughtful as it is entertaining. The Everything Seed is a very welcome and highly recommended addition to family, church, school, and community library collections. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiration and Survival
A lot of useful inspiration and practical information from the world's spiritual and religious traditions has been brought together in this psychic survival guide for teenagers. With many quotes from both modern writers and sacred traditions, the focus is on learning to be strong in oneself and compassionate towards others, what Johnson calls being a spiritual warrior. The tools and insights are directed toward the transition from childhood to adulthood - learning to be an independent person in the world. Johnson calls this time, which people are called upon to face in their teens and early twenties, the thundering years.Native American wisdom is used as a principle guide, but many sources of wisdom are brought in - Christian, Buddhist, Sufi, modern psychological. Young people are encouraged to live creative lives and to tells their stories. A cornucopia of techniques for living a vital life and dealing with its challenges are presented - everything from meditation, working with dreams, drumming, and various forms of exercise to helping others, connecting with nature, and creating rituals to mark the changes in one's life. Many useful books, resources, and Web sites are included at the end of each chapter. As most topics have to be dealt with relatively briefly, these references allow readers to delve more deeply into areas which they are drawn to. This is an inspiring guide and companion, not only for young people, but anyone hoping to ride the waves of modern life more effectively, and enjoy the ride.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book moved me to tears
I came across this book in a local children's hospital resource library. The first page describes a speeding race car with no brakes, and how it might go off the road or even crash.Page two goes on to draw a parellel between this race car, and and explains that having ADHD is a lot like being a race car with no brakes, 'You have a great engine with lots of thinking power, and a good, strong body, but no brakes'.I broke down crying right there in the middle of the library - it was like finally getting inside my child's head and knowing how he feels and why he just doesn't seem to know when to quit.5-0 out of 5 stars A Powerful Resource for the Parents of ADHD Kids!
One of the most difficult things about parenting an ADHD child is explaining attention deficit disorder to that child. Patricia Quinn and associates have given a powerful resource to these parents - a true gift to empower them. In simple language, illustrated with eye-catching graphics, PUTTING ON THE BRAKES explains not only the nature of this disorder, but also how children and their families can learn to manage it. As an ADD Coach, I find this to be the most important resource that I can put into the hands of parents.

4-0 out of 5 stars Putting on the Brakes
A very good book for children with ADHD.It's easy to read and gets to the point, something all ADHD children need.It explains what ADHD is, that others have the same problems, and how it effects their home and school lives. It gives some wonder information about how they can help theirselves.I have read it to both my children with ADHD as well as ADHD children I work with and they all enjoy it, and can relate to it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!!! Great social story for whining!!!
I have twin 4 year olds who are constantly whining. This is a beautifully-written and illustrated book that teaches you get NOTHING when you whine, and you are rewarded for good behavior. I read it to my boys last night and they loved it. This morning, when one of my boys started whining, I said, "What do you get when you whine?" He replied, "Nothing... I'm sorry." A lesson also for parents to be consistent and to remain calm instead of yelling at your kids to stop (which never works). I'm already convinced that with repeated reading and consistent parenting (you can never give in) the whining will stop! Thanks for this book, and PLEASE write more!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A better way of writing childerens books
This book is about Mamma cat, Daddy Cat and their 3 childeren and their adventures during a typical day. The book also teaches childeren a lesson about why it is not good behavior to whine.
