GREAT GANG IDENTIFICATION BOOK!
Sach's book has been used here at our local high school for the last several years, when one of the city's juvenile probation officer brought it to identify a piece of school graffiti. Bought several copies for the teacher's lounge / library. A welcomed addition! Great illustrations, author knows his gangs. Excellent chapter written just for schools----includes an assessment tool to evaluate gang infiltration within your own school. Would highly recommend for anyone who comes into contact with gangs.

Very Well Researched
A very well researched book, by a knowledgeable author. A few things were out of date, but with the fluidity of gangs, turf wars, etc. that can be expected. More books should be available for people to inform themselves, like this one. ... Read more

A Biased Review From a Proud Librarian
It is important to note that I have never reviewed books online for anyone, but I have made an exception for the work of these five former students of mine. Their hard work on this book, begun when they were in the seventh grade, has really paid off in this handsome and direct guide for anyone trying to negotiate the halls of their new middle school. Funny, insightful, and full of real-life information teens can put to immediate use, this is an essential book to have for the transition into the teenage years.

Fantastic Book!
A great book for anyone heading to middle school!It's not only full of terrific advice; it's also an inspiring story in itself (amazingly enough, the five authors wrote it while they were in middle school!).I sure wish I'd had a copy of this book back when I was eleven or twelve years old.

Lovely
This is an adorable children's book that portrays Ainu culture through the words of notable Ainu activist, Kayano Shigeru.The stories are fascinating and the pictures add a meaningful touch.This book is a prime example of the notion that beauty exists in simplicity.Overall- a wonderful introduction to the Ainu worldview and lifestyle.

Ideal book for preparing children to attend a wedding.

a enjoyable story for young readers
Something is definitely wrong in the Robinson household. Mom and Dad's responses to the children's misbehavior are completely unrelated to their actions. For example, when Sukie kicks her brother Brian, her mother responds, "Waste not, want not." Another time Sukie is running through the living room with glitter in her hand. When the glitter spills, her father's response is, "If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you jump off a bridge too?" Another Great Book By MPH!!!

IF I WERE A LION I WOULDN'T BUY THIS BOOK
A WILD, YOUNG GIRL IS IN TIME-OUT & TALKS ABOUT ALL THE ANIMALS THAT ARE WILD COMPARED TO HER. CHECK THIS OUT FROM THE LIBRARY BEFORE BUYING IT. I'D RECOMMEND 'BAD CAT' INSTEAD.

This is a wonderful book told from a kid's perspective!Great!We have 2 kids with Down syndrome, so this subject is very dear to our hearts.It even discusses the use or misuse of the word retarded.Loved it!

My daughter loves the pictures of little Jai, but the text is too detailed for young readers on one page, appropriate on all the others.My biggest concern is the line "there is nothing we can do to make Down syndrome go away" -- which teaches siblings the assumption that it should.My son has Down syndrome and I wouldn't change him for anything, nor do I wanthis sisters to think that we would prefer him to be someone else. ... National Geographic publishers have turned their sights to the world of poetry, it seems.But not your namby-pamby flowers and sunshine type poems.No, sir.Poems with blood.Poems with gunfire.Poems with pirates!And what better way to celebrate all things piratical than with a little Blackbeard action, eh?With all things pirate hotter now than ever, the time is ripe for a book that can be part biography and part illustrated history.Throw in a couple pirate poems and the concept is a touch confusing, but no less amusing.Author J. Patrick Lewis culls together what little we know about Blackbeard's life and sets it ah-rhyming.Though a bit awkward and difficult to follow, I can think of no better work of poetry to hand to those boys forced to do poetry book reports against their will.Or, for that matter, pirate loving lasses.

Calming Influence
This is a wonderful book.I can be having a totally awful day and when I sit down and read it I feel so OK afterwards.I love the pictures and the words (my favourite is "Nothing passes by you that's for you") and I think about the quotes when I feel depressed or angry.

A must have for any girl or woman
what an inspirational book! Usually, i approach these 'self help' books with apprehension, as thought they had nothing to offer me - and boy does this one prove me wrong. In today's consumer-driven society the 'natural woman' is on the brink of extinction and Paul writes on how the reader can maintain their vitality and their zest without submitting themselves to the will of 'the pack' - ultimately it's about individuality, and how you can find yours. I highly recommend this to any female of any age - it teachs spiritual growth, and that's something one can never get enough of.

When I first looked at this, I cringed. I mean, Britney Spears likes it (and thats really scary). But it IS beautiful, even if it appears very mainstream and clichy.
