4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I liked the beginning of this book because it showed how she got in the accident and it was exciting but in the middle, it got a little boring with her in the hospital. At the end, it was exciting again. I liked the book a lot!
4-0 out of 5 stars Izzy Willy-Nilly
At my school I was assigned to read this book. It was actually a very good book. I am an obcessive reader and I think this was the 8th best book I've ever read! This book will always keep you on the edge of your seat seeing what Rosamunde and Izzy will do next.

4-0 out of 5 stars Minor spoiler....
Izzy assumes that she "won't be having boyfriends anymore." Huh? I hope that was meant to be only a thought in Izzy's mind and not an assumption that amputees do not date. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How Smudge Came
When I first read this book I cried. It is a great tale about a girl with down's syndrome named Cindy. She finds a puppy that she befriends and is forced later in the book to give up the puppy. It is a heart warming tale that children can identify with. We've all lost something we loved, whether it be a family member, a pet, or even a favorite blanket. In educational terms, it is filled with sight words and many new vocabulary words. It also introduces young readers to diversity and is a great way to teach children about disabilities.

5-0 out of 5 stars From A Parent's Perspective
Coming from a mother of two boys with Down syndrome, I was justtouched at the story.Gregory has a captivating way of literallyentering the mind of Cindy and the way she processes her day to dayactivities. This wonderful lesson in empathy helps us realize thatso-called "special-needs" people are a lot more like therest of us than they are different.

5-0 out of 5 stars It has amazing heart and soul and mystery and reality.
I am in awe of what Nan Gregory has been able to accomplish by page 2, the respect she has for her young audience's intelligence, and for all the seeds of other stories she plants along the way but chooses not to tell.Ron Lightburn's gorgeous, moody, illustrations help draw the reader (orlistener) into Cindy's world, far away from sentimentality and cuteness. Agreat book; one day hope to read it (and Charlotte's Web) aloud withoutsobbing. Please give us more of Cindy. ... Read more

Her mother and father don't like the idea because it seems like they don't have any money. 5-0 out of 5 stars emotionally complex and powerful
Calhoun tells a gripping, disturbing and ultimately empowering story. As Rose confronts her worst fears she finds much more than her personal nightmares ever conjured, yet she also discovers more resolve within herself than she had expected.Although Rose has lived a life of bondage that makes her nearly incapable of claiming "mine," her values and the incredibly difficult circumstances she faces eventually enable her to assert herself more generously than those born to privilege might do. The mystical and fantastic elements of this story balance well alongside the practical details of orchard husbandry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!
I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it--one of the best young adult book's ever.I probably read40-50 books a year and this is onmy favorites list along with Jane Eyre, Poisonwood Bible, Crispin, Inkheart and books by such authors as Dean Koontz and Anne Perry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Apart from one scene scaring me, I loved this movie.
The first time I saw this movie, there was one scene which scared me; the scene where Mary's parents are dying from the plague (I think it was cholera?). The music they use for this can send chills down someone's back; I know because it did mine.
1-0 out of 5 stars Worset movie ever
I can't stand this movie, it's one of the worset.
1-0 out of 5 stars Great Story, Awful Acting.
While a wonderful story, this movie ruins it with two child actors who make the movie painful to watch.

The book that I finished reading was The Double digit Club. The book was about a girl who had a friend that was going to turn ten and was going to have a small party. But Sara knew that Valerie Miller was going to ask Katie (Sara's friend)if she wanted to be part of her double digit club which ignored girls who weren't ten yet.
5-0 out of 5 stars THe Double Digit Club
I loved the book i made all my friends read it! I couldn't put it down! Its heart warming story of a girl who lost her best and only friend to a stupid club called "The Double Digit Club." The Double Digit Club or DDC is a club that was made up by a girl named Valerie. Valerie is snotty but her birthday is before everyone so she is the oldest. Well the main character, Sarah, is happy till she fines out about the club. When you turn 10 she asked, no she tells you to join the DDC. Sarah has a friend named Paige who can speak for her self, Paige really wants to join the DDC but then Sarah would all alone. At this part of the book I asked my self, "Will Paige stay with Sarah or will she go with the DDCs?" and "Will Sarah and Paige be friends forever?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting history; touching story
In "The Printer," Myron Uhlberg pays tribute to his deaf father who worked as a newspaper printer during the Depression era.The story portrays Myron's pride in his father while showing the discrimination deaf people faced during that time (and, at least to some degree, still do today). The printer shows that deaf people are not second-class citizens, and in fact, the hearing co-workers end up owing their lives to the deaf workers and their use of sign language.A fabulous book from a wonderful man! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Outdated and dangerous - waste of money.
As the mother of a 5 month old and a 23 month old, I thought this book might be a good mix of ideas for both my girls. The few SAFE ideas presented are things my 23 month old did in her first year. There was nothing new presented and nothing that seemed applicable to her now at almost 2.That said, the baby ideas were a bit on the dangerous side. The book suggests tying toys in the babies crib which seems to create a choking hazard. It also reccommends walkers for babies.Walkers have been strongly advised against by the AAP for years now.Lastly, the book suggests using planks of wood to create a gym in your living room.I don't keep planks of wood around, let along ones that are sanded & varnished with rounded corners.Overall this book was a complete waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Filled with practical ideas
This is the best book I have come accross on the subject, and the only one i ended up using since the birth of my son. Its jam packed with great ideas on childrens activities- which are at the same time educational. 5-0 out of 5 stars Have fun with your little ones!
This is the best book I've found with activities for babies. It's simple, to the point, and a quick read.I'm a nanny for one little girl--this book helped pass the long days when she was very small.I really liked the ideas that didn't require money--babies love household items. They learn so much from everyday objects. If you're looking for some different activities--this is the book to get. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hannah
Hannah by Gloria Whelan5-0 out of 5 stars Hannah is wonderful
This is a wonderful story set in the late 1800's.The story is about a little girl who is blind. No one has ever allowed Hannah to try to do anything for herself. That is, until a new teacher comes to town. She isalways referred to as "poor Hannah".At first glance this is astory about a teacher who helps a little blind girl succeed in her struggleto become more independent. Not only does Hannah struggle withindependence, but her parents struggle even harder with the thought ofHannah trying and failing at doing things herself. However, the endmessage is that not only does she learn courage, but family and friendslearn about courage also.Everyone wins in this story.Enjoy!

4-0 out of 5 stars A nice story
This book does a good job dealing with the subject of blindness.Hannah is considered the "poor blind child" at the beginning, until a new teacher comes to town who encourages her parents to allow Hannah to attend school with all of the other children.Hannah does blossom, makesfriends, and is introduced to braille. My only wish for this book wouldhave been to give Hannah a cane to become independent in her mobility, asshe only led around by people and does does get lost on her own once. Butall in all, this is a very nice story. ... Read more

"All Kinds of Friends, Even Green!" is written and photographed by Ellen B. Senisi. The text and photos tell a story about Moses, a disabled boy who gets around in his wheelchair. At school, his class is given an assignment to write about friends.Moses is inspired to write about a very special friend: Zaki, an iguana.Zaki is also disabled, having lost her back toes after a mite infection; Moses has a special affection with her.5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I really liked this book, and so did my 6 year old son.I have a boy with special needs who is 5, and this author captured the curiousity and excitement of a small child so well, and then revealed the disability of the boy in the book in a very positive manner. My son had fun reading it, and I know that the ideas that were in the background are what I want my son to "get".I would definetely recommend this book.

One morning, a normal morning. All until Bobby realizedhe was invisible. Rubbing his eyes in the mirror, he was scared. While he is invisible,he meets is new best friend Alicia. She is blind and doesnt know Bobby is invisible. She finds out the news and helps him to be visible again. In the second halk of the book Bobby remembers that the morning he turned invisible he slept on an electric blanket that night. He finds people who has the same problem. This helps him find out how he can get visible again. Alicia told him to sleep on the blanket and it turned him visible again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Without a trace
In the book "Things Not Seen" the inital incident started out with this normal kid named Bobby Phillips. He started his day out normal or like any other da, prying himself out of bed, then taking a shower in the dark. His day was normal that was at least until he looked into the mirror to see nothing but a floating towel. The rising action in "Things Not Seen" would be when he tells his mother that he is invisible. There are two orher parts that I can tell you without runing the book. One of them is when he bumps into this girl oa the library and his scarf falls off, the bad thing about that is he is invisible. But it turns out that the girl is blind so it doesn't matter. The other one would be when he calls this girl Sheila.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE sweet-blood!!!
I think this book is awesome!!!
2-0 out of 5 stars I Don't Recommend This Book
I didn't really enjoy SweetBlood. Lucy Szabo was very negative and rude so I found it very hard to like her. When I read a book I want to feel the way the person in the bookdoes; laugh when she laughs, cry when she cries. In this book I didn't feel that at all, I thought she needed an attitude adjustment.
4-0 out of 5 stars me like da sweet blud!
I like the book "sweet blood." Although the beginning is a little bit creapy.quoting:"blood is my friend, without it I die." sounded as though this girl lucy was a vampire that likes blood. But she just tends to think about vampires alot because her theory is that vampires never really existed. She thinks these "vampires" are really diabetics for some reason. She my be a tad bit droopy and scary to some people she as an attitude that I just love. She makes people think that she is mad at them but she really just doesn't care. But when she starts hanging out with "DRACO" or i think wade or something. this guy that gets people thinking is he really a vamp. lucy starts to change a little because she begins to sneak out and drink wine when she knows that can make her glocuse or blook suger goes out of controlle she just doesn't care. But when she finially realizes that she has to do something to controlle herself she makes a complete 180 in her personality. Only with the same attitude. But she shaves her head and acts like the old lucy that was more up beat and happy. That is the thing that I like. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just the right touch
I found this book to be a very sensitive and positive treatment of a topic that needs to be discussed in schools today. As more children with Down Syndrome and other disabilities are entering our classrooms, discussions of pertinent issues are important. Exposure of non-disabled children to books such as this one will facilitate their communication with and acceptance of the disabled youngsters with whom they will be expected to associate. Ms. Glatzer does an admirable job of presenting the information in an informative, gentle, non-threatening way, at just the right level for a young elementary school aged child to grasp. By writing the book as a first-person narrative, told in the words of Nick, the young boy with Down Syndrome, she makes it easy and natural for the young reader to empathize with him. The similarities between Nick and the reader are stressed, rather than the differences. This book (and the others in the same series) should be in every elementary school classroom today. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Working life
This book tells the true story about the life a guide dog named Perry and the blind woman named Sarah that he works for.The book explains how the dog helps Sarah get around in the morning, how he helps her cross the street to get to the grocery store, and how he gets to go where other dogs aren't allowed. It describes how Sarah is able to keep up with her busy schedule of activities like playing music for local schoolchildren thanks to Perry's tireless work. The book also describes an adventure that Sarah and Perry had together when they walked from Boston to New York City. The book is not at all scary. It's a great description of working dogs and the kinds of help they can provide for disabled people, as well as the kinds of activities that disabled people engage in every day.The book has about 650 words.

4-0 out of 5 stars Looking Out for Sarah
Glenna Lang's Looking Out for Sarah, based on a true story about Sarah Gregory Smith and her guide dog, Perry, talks about how animals can help people with disabilities do extraordinary things. In the story, the narrator tells of ways that the black lab helps his blind master complete everyday tasks like go to the market, play in the park, take a train ride, and go to the post office.Sarah and Perry also take a special adventure, hiking from Boston to New York City to show the nation the wonderful capabilities that "helper dogs for disabled people" have.Lang narrates the story beautifully, as Perry would tell it.The illustrations she uses place an even greater focus on Perry. While all of the pages are warm and colorful and all of the other characters such as Sarah and the school children wear bright clothes, Perry stands out from page to page.It is as if Lang wants the reader to be in Perry's shoes, or paws, for a day and see all of the wonderful things he does for Sarah.Overall, Looking Out for Sarah is a delightful children's book, full of big, brightly illustrated pages that can teach children of all ages the advantages of our canine companions.

4-0 out of 5 stars You'll enjoy it as much as the kids!
Fun to read and you'll learn from it, too! Told from the dog's perspective, you'll move through a typical day in Sarah's life as her faithful Lab Perry looks out for her with charm, affection, and a sense of duty. The dog's eye view of the world lends gentle humor, like when Perry faces nearly ubiquitous temptation from crumbs and "street snacks."The author lends her own humor, too, in lines like, "although Perry was not much of a publicity hound."The illustrations are simple yet unique. While the book alludes to Sarah and Perry's 300-mile trip from Boston to NYC, I'm hoping for a sequel that will go into detail! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Would've been better if it was actually in Braille
This book was nice, but was only in English for seeing people. It would have been much better if the Braille was actually readable, so the Blind could read the story, too. Considering this children's book was $20, a book about the Blind should be accessable to them as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars A long needed book for young children to understand Braille.
This book was written for young children (4 to 8 years) so they can understand how blind children read Braille. In simple language and colourful illustrations it tells the story of how Oscar, a blind boy, teaches his friend Lucy how to read his Braille Book. The book is importantbecause today when most blind children are educated in regular schools itis vital that sighted children have books they can read about blindchildren and how they learn. There are very few books available at thislevel in school or public libraries or even in print. Teachers, parents andlibrarians are frustrated at this lack of such materials that are availablefrom major publishing companies.Read more
