5-0 out of 5 stars Keeping it simple
How do you go about explaining something to your children that you have difficulty understanding yourself? Well Barklay and Eve make the process easier. This wonderful book describes the most complicated procedures in simple terms without talking down to children. I found the illustrations and story content charming and informative. Children will find the common hair loss of cancer a much less frightening process when they see the fun that Eve has with a wig. While dealing with cancer can't be made easier, Barklay and Eve can make explaining it easier. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of great information
It's almost overwhelming. There is no way you can spend this much time teaching everything, but it's nice to be able to pick and choose fun things to do with your baby. It's easy to use in a well thought out layout from birth on, divided by sensory perception.

5-0 out of 5 stars What do you do with a baby?
As a first time mom,of a child with special needs to boot, I had no idea. This book and the others in the series are great resources for finding things to do with your child other than watching Teletubbies for the thousandth time. If your child needs extra help in a certain area, like fine motor or listening skills, you can easily find a variety of exercises to help here. The later books in the series (Threes, Fours, and Fives) would also be a great resource for a homeschooling parent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Active Learning for Infants
Not just for daycare!I am a first-time, stay-at-home mom and needed away to tell if I was "doing all the right stuff" in regards toplay, development, speech, music, etc. This book gives you exercises thatare so easy for each stage of the first year of life. There is not a lotto read like a typical baby care book, but each section outlines what thechild should be accomplishing and gives you exercises to ensure that yourchild reaches those development milestones. If you can look past the ideathat it is written for daycare providers, you will find this book extremelyhelpful.I knew I was giving my child all he needed because I had theseexercises to use as a handy guide.Good luck to you! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A cute one
There isn't really a plot here - you're just looking for Elmo's blanket through the flaps, but it's fun for my [...] daughter. There are plenty of flaps, and so far they are sturdy enough to withstand her handling, and the illustrations are nice. If you're looking for fun rather than content, this one is for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but better for 18 mos and above
My 15 month old Elmo lover enjoys this book. There are certainly a lot of flaps to open.I think he will enjoy this book more when he is a bit older and able to appreciate all of the characters. As a blankie and Elmo lover, I am looking forward to sharing this book a lot with him.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little busy, not much to read
Even though there aren't many words to read and the book is a little busy with so much going on in pictures, my 15 month old still loves Elmo. She loves books. This isn't her favorite book, but it's okay for a quick look. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hidden message
"The Gingerbread Man" is a great story for young children. However this story also has many hidden themes that your child might pickup on while reading this tale. "The Gingerbread Man" supports the idea that women are mearly the creaters of life and house keepers, and warns young children of the consequences of being arrongant and disrespecting your maker.Even with these hidden themes any child should enjoy this story.

4-0 out of 5 stars fairy tales and popular culture
The story of "The Gingerbread Man" has for centuries enlightened the hearts of its young readers. It has helped to redefine the way that popular cuture work helps to shape an individual's way of interpreting the ideological work that the story portrays. That utopian feel to it; where people want to see the hero win in the end and come up on top.In fact the gingerbread man gets eaten in the end, which goes against that utopian type of fairy tale that the public genre tends to enjoy more. But for some reason this fairy tale has been one that against all odds, has remained popular, and entertaining and plain old FUN.Which is what the everyday reader wants to read, something that is fun and entertaining when it comes to fairy tales.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful version of the classic tale
Lovely illustrations and repeating, predictable text. The illustrations are "old fashioned" looking and were drawn in ink then colored with watercolors and gouache. A classic tale about a gingerbread cookie man that gets up and runs away when he is released from the oven and leads many on a long chase. My children want me to read this story over and over again! There are many versions of this story in print but we especially like this one. As a bonus, the recipe for gingerbread cookies is on the back cover. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
Just received this book and am returning it pronto. It starts out picturing a kid in a classroom feeling he has nothing to write about because he's not rich like the other kids. It actually suggests giving kids ideas for writing through such life experiences as their parents fighting and them having holes in their socks, to such imaginary experiences as a tree falling on their house and killing their mother in her sleep!! Give me a break! There are MUCH better books out there -- I plan to keep the other 6 writing books for kids that I ordered from Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for classrooms
I used this book in a 3rd grade classroom where I am student teaching. The students hate to write, but they loved this book. They realized that they really do have a lot to write about. We brainstormed a list of possible writing ideas for the days when they are stuck. They love to get out their list and pick something to write about. This book is a must have for any classroom!!!!!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great idea but needs monitoring with younger kids
The quality of the book itself is great - sturdy, thick, laminated pages with high quality graphics and color. The stickers are reusable. However, while they are thicker than just a regular sticker, they are made of paper and still tear if pulled off at the wrong angle.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Stickers & Great Price
This is a great book, the stickers ARE reusable, the book is sturdy, high quality. The book has great scenes for stickers to be applied, blank pages with suggestions on different ways to play, and pages for matching (ie: wheels to cars) included. 5-0 out of 5 stars george is wonderful
George is good to read after an exasperating day with your toddler or preschooler. It reminds you that it could be worse, you could REALLY have a monkey to care for, and your monkeys don't really mean to get into mischief, they are just very very curiouus.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just as good as the original stories
To date my daughter has been reading the "Curious George" books that belonged to my husband when he was a child. I was a little skeptical that the newly written stories would capture the same spirit as thosewritten more than 30 years ago. However, my daughter absolutely loved itespecially as both the storyline and the illustrations were more detailedthan usual and made it fun for her to point out different things and extendinto a discussion with us about beaches, lifesaving etc. Like her other"George" books she has reread this one over and over. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars a great novel about the passions, dreams, and aspirations of a young boy

4-0 out of 5 stars Mickey and Me
Mickey and me is about a boy named Joe Stoshack that can travel through time using baseball cards. His father gets in a car accident and asks Joe to go back in time to keep Mickey Mantle from an injury that ended his career as a great player. He travels back in time with a Mickey Mantle card(or so he thinks). He does meet Mickey, but is it the right one? Read this book to find out.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is the best ever
What I like about this book is how Joe Stoshack's dad has been hiding a Mickey Mantle baseball card for years under a floor board! I hate how they threw trash at people back then if something totally bad happened in baseball. I like when Joe was dressed up in a chicken suit as the team mascot and he had to throw a ball through Hitler's tooth. If he did it, then everyone in the ball park would receive a free movie pass to see Judy Garland's "Meet Me in St. Louis."He missed, so they threw trash at him! Later on in the story he had a chance to do it again and he did it. My most favorite part of all is when he's sitting next to 13 year old Mickey Mantle on a train and he never even realized it! I never thought Joe would be bullied in the story. In the story the girls from the past called him Josephine.Joe is supposed to go back in time to Mickey Mantle, but instead he meets a different Mickey. So the question is where is Joe Stoshack?

Editorial Review

Alfred's life is going nowhere fast. He's a high-school dropout working at a grocery store. His best friend is drifting behind a haze of drugs and violence, and now some street punks are harassing him for something he didn't do. Feeling powerless and afraid, Alfred gathers up the courage to visit Donatelli's Gym, the neighborhood's boxing club. He wants to be a champion--on the streets and in his own life. Alfred doesn't quite understand when Mr. Donatelli tells him, "It's the climbing that makes the man. Getting to the top is an extra reward." In the end, he learns that a winner isn't necessarily the one standing when the fight is over. Teens and adults alike will be knocked out by this powerful story of how a frightened boy becomes a man. ... Read more

My 4 and a half year old son LOVED this sticker book. I bought it just after the movie came out and he didn't put it down for 2 hours !It would have been perfect for a long trip. Now that he's four these types of books are great--finding the correct sticker to be placed in the right spot--then he would ask us to read the caption.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful product to teach about money matters!
I have heard wonderful things about this giving bank and finally decided to implement it with my 5 year old daughter and 2 year old son.Obviously the 2 year old is a little young for the concept, but I drew up a chore chart and at the end of the week they each get $3.00 and each dollar goes into the separate banks.I explained each bank and my 5 year old cannot wait to give her money to "those who don't have any".It's a great teaching tool!

5-0 out of 5 stars Kid-friendly money manager
We bought this for our son when he started earning an allowance for chores this summer. We keep a tally of what he earns each week, then break down his earnings into the bank's three categories--church/charity, savings, and spending. Helps him see how you should put aside certain portions of your earnings, not just spend it all. The bank comes with a brief, helpful guide for teaching your kids to be good stewards of the money they earn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Way to Teach Savings
I was looking to a savings tool that would teach my 3 year old to save the money she was receiving.I went over to a friends house who was teaching her son to save short-term and then also for tithing. She was using plastic containers.I checked on amazon and found My Giving Bank that also had long-term savings all in one.My daughter loves it.My husband comes home and gives his change to her and she puts money in all three sections. When grandma comes over to give her money, we pull out her giving bank and she now knows exactly what to do.When we go to church, she takes the money out of the church section and she puts it in the tithing basket. She loves it and she feels apart of the tithing process. We have not taken any money out of the other sections yet.I want to wait until she is old enough to ask for things she wants at the store.I highly recommend this as a way to teach finacial responsibility. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My 3 year old LOVED this book!
We have many of the Kumon workbooks and love them all, but this one is my son's favorite. It's perfect for 3 year olds.It starts with very simple mazes and then each progressive maze gets a little bit harder. When we first got the book and I looked towards the end of this book, I thought there was NO way my son could do this at three years old. . .but the book gradually increases the difficulty level so slowly that it WORKS!This is the one workbook that my son BEGGED to do and would do three or four pages at a sitting! And now he's on the next "Amazing Mazes" book in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mylittle boy loved this book!
Kumon's MY FIRST BOOK OF MAZES is a wonderful introduction to mazes for children. They recommend this book for a child aged 3-4-5...well, I would find it hard to believe a 3 yr. old could do some of these mazes! My son is 8 and he had lots of fun with this book. Some were very easy, but some were challenging. Note the cover art is nothing like the inner art. The inner art is beautifully done, with the even page mazes up to page 28 being softly colored 3-D looking mazes of city streets, a forest, a farm a zoo, a garden, a racetrack, etc. The odd numbered pages have mazes in black and white and are flat, in various creative designs, and are more challenging than the 3-D style mazes. Mazes #29 on are of animals: work your way through a soccer playing fox, a doggie waiter, a pig out shopping, a lion king...very fun! The animals are done in black and white with colorful backrounds. A very nice book printed on heavy paper, nothing cheap and junky in the feel at all. I have heard of someone who had their child move a counter or plastic chip along the maze to find the way through, and then have them go again with the pencil or crayon. This prevents frustration with erasing because of wrong turns, and aids in remembering how you went through with the chip. When your child has done this book, they would probably enjoy Kumon's AMAZING MAZES, similar to this one, but a bit harder. These would make great gifts for a child who has everything. Kumon has many many wonderful workbooks that any child would love...check them out! Books on cutting, pasting, crafts, numbers. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Bedtime Story
My 2-year-old son, Max, LOVES this book. He insists we read it every night, immediately followed by _Max's Toys_. The touch-and-feel areas are very small, although it doesn't seem to bother him. He just loves to open and close the window.

4-0 out of 5 stars GOODNIGHT MAX
It's a very sweet, short story-good for 2's and 3's. A great book? No. A cute story with two rabbits? Yes!

4-0 out of 5 stars You have to be a fan
I bought this book after reading all the great reviews. It is a nice book, bright colors, lots of attention to detail, silly story line, but I didn't think the areas for the child to feel were large enough. The sticky candy in Max's pajamas is just about the size of a child's fingertip, the lace curtain is just a thin slip of fabric, the lightning is a skinny zig-zag of foil and the "cookie crumbs" sandpaper is only about a quarter-inch high. There are other touch-and-feel books that provide a much larger exploratory surface.Still, this book does contain a good variety (sticky candy, rough crumbs, fur, smelly sock, etc.)I'm not sure why, but that smelly sock always seems to be such a hit! ...
