the hardship in baseball
Teammates Awesome!
This book teaches you alot about how blacks were treated back in the day. When Jackie Robinsion was signed to the Dodgers the fans and players treated him really badly. People threw stuff at him. Then a young teammate stood up for him and saved him from being ban from the team. So you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.

Moving, motivating, and inspirational
If you are looking for an example of courage to follow, this is it. I can think of no better account of what a single human spirit is capable of.

Good to read this story again after so many years.
I first read Robin Lee Graham's account as it was printed in installments in National Geographic at the time of his voyage more than three decades ago. I was a few years younger than he, and fascinated by the narrative and photos of his exploits.
Not bad
Any book that someone writes about sailing around the world can't be bad. I thought it was a pretty good story but not the best. Later in his life he moves to the middle of the North American continent & is nowhere near the ocean. I think he doesn't love the ocean like most other circumnavigator's. That said it is still an incredible journey for someone so young to undertake. A better book is Maiden Voyage, by Tania Aebi.

Fun Review
Very good review of a current sports star.Easy for my 7 year old daughter to understand and keep her interested.

Mia Hamm and How She Started
I would recommend this book not only to people who love soccer, but to everyone who enjoys a true story about a great athlete and role model.The story of Mia Hamm is basically about how she was introduced to soccer and how she follows her dream to be the best women's soccer player in the world.

The book is really better than it looks like!

The Greatest boxer ever
The Greatest: Muhammad Ali (The Greatest)
Good book for kids
I bought this book for my fifth grader for a report he did on Ali.He enjoyed the book and pictures very much; to the point that he became quite interested in Ali's life (beyond just boxing).The boook was easy to read, not too long, and had some great, famous photographs.

Lyrical pictures of the Babe hitting a home run
When I first saw the cover painting by Mike Wimmer on "Home Run" I was not sure if it was supposed to be Babe Ruth.In his glory days the Bambino had a body like an inverted pyramid, with those broad shoulders tapering down to those thin little ankles and tiny feet, and there are some paintings in "Home Run: The Story of Babe Ruth" that do not especially look like the Babe.However, those are few and far between. For the child who loves baseball and has two left feet.
Purchased this for my nephew who is overweight, uncoordinated and loves playing baseball.Reading this to him increased his joy of the game and gave him confidence to keep trying to improve his own skills.Taught him to do best with the skills he had right now and even how to deal with successes in life.This level of understanding was terrific for children and adult alike.Excellent book for sharing special time with children.

A book that lives in the moment
This books opens with the Great Bambino as a child. Remindingyou of your own innocent childhood. It then leaps to his professinalcareer where it slows down to one at bat. (the moment) It is written with a grace for detail that makes you feel like part of the story. You hear the crack of the bat, feel the dirt under your spikes, the "soft hardness of the base", and hear the defening sound of the crowd. A great little read :-)
I reviewed Game Day earlier in the year after buying it for my nephew and both he and I (yes I admit it) loved it.Full of great pictures and a nice message, this is similar to Game Day in that respect.

Highly Recommended - They did it again!
I ran out and bought this book for my 7 year old son after getting their first book- By My Brother's Side.
Good story about family ;-)
What a really cute book.I got this for my little nephew who loves it.The pictures are lovely and so well done, and the story is real.It is about family and being there for each other.Of course there is the sport which will keep all kids entertained.It's a great effort from a (cute) very talented Giant of the game.Especially good for little boys, they will want you to read this over and over.

The true story of the famous twin football players
Young Tiki and Ronde Barber play football for their hometown team in Virginia.Tiki often gets the ball and scores more often than Ronde, who is feeling a bit neglected and overlooked as a result.His blocks help Tiki score.Why don't people recognize that fact?His mother and his coach are fortunately of the mindset that every effort is worthwhile and that teamwork is what wins games and spells success.Ronde feels some of that spirit by the end of the story.

Best shortstop in New York history
I am a huge fan of Derek Jeter's. That's why I chose this book. I gave it five stars because Matt Christopher described every part of Derek's life accurately. I had already read Derek's autobiography and in that book I learned that his Dad made him sign contracts. In these contracts with his father, Derek had to promise to get good grades -- or else he didn't get to play in any All Star games or anything. Later, dude!

Must read at the Plate with Derek Jeter
The book I'm reviewing is At the Plate with Derek Jeter by Matt Christopher. I think this book deserves five stars. This book is a Derek Jeter biography. A problem that occurs in this story is when he's in high school. He almost gets cut from the team. This tells you how Derek Jeter became a pro baseball player. I would recommend this book to anybody.
Great book to read with a young baseball fan
This series in general, and the Jeter book in particular, are great for a 5-10 year old sports nut.I read this with our 6 year old, a chapter a night for a couple weeks.

How Jenny dealt with the negative peer pressure

A homeschoolers review
This is a true and exciting story that will make you never want to give up on your dreams.I really liked this book and recommend that you read it.

Classroom Book
I have used Wilman Unlimited in my classroom for the past few years.It is a fantastic book to use any time during the year, but good for Black History Month also.I use it with fourth graders to teach sequencing and analyzing character.I highly recommend this book.

Running just as fast as she can
Inspirational stories fill hundreds of picture books every year. Most are simply awful. They either tell tales that are loose plots barely supported by facts or they paste together a slapdash concoction of truth and fiction with as little thought as possible. The truly beautiful bio-picture books out there are as rare as hummingbirds in autumn. So it was with great joy that I located "Wilma Unlimited" and found it to be not only inspirational but also a darned good read. Written by Kathleen Krull (the woman who could make long dead musicians fascinating in "Lives of the Musicians" and bring Cesar Chavez to life in the recent "Harvesting Hope") and illustrated by David Diaz the book is the best possible way to introduce kids to one of the world's greatest athletes.Read more

"Tony Hawk: Professional SkateBoarder"
I injoyed this book alot because it has influenced my life. The book has influenced my life by not judging people for the things they do.Another aspect is that he has showen is Intellectual Perserverance in his every day life. He has done this by not giving up on his Skateboarding company when times were rough. He has reminded me of my own family and how we all have overcome hard times and how we still keep positive.

I felt like this book was pretty much the same as Occupation Skateboarder. Lots of the same pics and stories, but okay.

Michael Jordan
This book was an awesome book.It has a bunch of information aboutMichael Jordan throughout his whole life.It has information from when he was a young boy all the way into the NBA.I definitly recommend this book to anyone that has an interest in Michael Jordan or that is a fan of the NBA. This is a well written story that has great facts and stats of Michael Jordan.

Michael one of four children was born.The youngest son of theJordan household, baseball was Michaels favorite sport. Golf's never been so interesting
Boy or girl, young or old, readers will love reading about Tiger Woods' inspiring rise to the top of the golf world. Overcoming racism, economic hardship, and personal limitations, Tiger leads the pack at an incredibly young age. My 9-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter and I read this together, and we were all equally enthralled and inspired by Tiger's story. It was accessible without being overly simple. We're looking forward to reading more entries in Matt Christopher's biography series.

GREAT READING AND PICTURES
I enjoyed reading this book.It was easy to read and interesting.

Entertaining look at the sport as well as an honest bio
Fans of Ms. Cohen's career will not be disappointed at her frank autobiography and a career still very much in progress. A favorite for the gold medal in Torino, Sasha spoke openly about the pressures and gained my respect when she maintained her dignity despite cutting observances and outright rudeness from the international press. Despite two falls in her long program and her own inner belief that all chance of any medal at all was gone, she got up off the ice and gave the program her all. Her perseverance rewarded her with a silver medal and inspired a generation of skaters to never give up. Great book.

Don't waste your time.
From beginning to end, I found this book to be dreadful, and an utter waste of my time. Champion? Of what? She is the queen of making excuses, and really, isn't it too soon for an autobiography? Do yourself a favor, skip over this book. ... Read more

the best athletic bio I ever read!!!!
Michelle Akers is the example of what persitence can do for you in any area of your life. We are taken into her world and shown what the career of an athlete entails. I was presently surprise to not be hit over the head with a sermon of why I should be Christian. In this book metaphors can be drawn and you can take her inspiriation to apply it to your daily life. An easy read and you don't have to believe in Jesus to love this book!!
The Best Book EVER!!!
I play select and I alway enjoy reading books on awsome soccer players. When my friend told me about this book I jumped at the oppertunity to read yet another soccer book.
