3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Davis fans Adequate for others
This biography will delight young fans of Terrell Davis although readers without a working knowledge of football may have difficulty following the play-by-play descriptions that occur at different points in this story. The vocabulary is acceptable for the target audience, and while the writing is not outstanding - it is adequate. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars good book BUT........
My son loved this book because his name happens to be Billy.I thought itwould be okay to let him read a "big boy" book.Boy was Iwrong!!!!! In our home "damn" is a curse and is not used byanyone in the house. We, as parents, are trying to teach our boys manyimportant values such as respect, charity, kindness, love, etc. We also tryto enforce the use of good words and not words that reflect anger, hatred, etc. How can you as a "kids" author use language that is"bad" and offensive? So what that the world says its okay. There are many parents out in the world who teach their children not to usecurse words or to listen or read articles that contain curse words.

5-0 out of 5 stars Run Billy Run is a good book by Matt Christopher
Once there was a boy named Billy who had a very poor family. He hadto run very long distances to get places. He had to run to the grocery store to get medicine and groceries. It was about 4 miles. He joined the track team.He missed a lot of days of track, because he had to work and chop down trees with his dadIn track he didn't do as well as he thought he would.Billy finished in last place almost every race. One day his coach put him in the 1 mile run, and he whipped all the other racers. The very next meet he won the 1 mile race and the 2 mile race.In the 2 mile race he beat 1 of the fastest boys in the state. Finally, his dad bought a new car. They didn't have one before.I liked the book because the author made you feel like you were in the book.I would recommend this book to a child or adult. By Daniel Lahrman ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Full of action and adventure
One of the best books I have read in the past year has to be Fence Busters by Chip Hilton. It is a marvelous book about how Chip and his friends make it into the collage baseball team. One of the major reasons I enjoyed this book so much is that it is about baseball. It is a sport where different people play. Another reason I found the book to be so wonderful is that it was baseball because that is my favorite sport. The reason I picked out this book is because I used to play baseball for 8 years. Of course, my favorite reason for loving this book is it is a sports book. As you can see, Fence Busters By Chip Hilton was truly my favorite book.

4-0 out of 5 stars critique of pee wee scouts, pedal power
Im reading the book Pee Wee Scouts,Pedal Power by Judy Delton,it is a realistic -fiction book.I was reading the book and it wasn't that interesting at firstbut thenitstarted geting queer.I highlyreccomend this book to readers because its funny but kind of simple. This book is mostly about some scouts helping, doing,or saving people, but it getsmonotonous some times. I'm enjoying this book because its abouttheese scouts savig people and its fantastic for me because it tells people from good and bad. And there wasn'tnothig that I disliked.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for teaching saftey and the importance of rules.
My 7 year old loved this book and the others we have read in this series. He can relate to many of the characters and likes that the kids which all have different interests can still play together even if they don't alwaysagree. We used this book as a group bedtime story for my 3 kids: 3, 5,& 7 and it held all of their attention while provoking questions aboutsaftey that we could talk about. We loved it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Kids Sports Story With Substance
Book #5 of the series explores the personality of Gloria Gibbs, the star shortstop of the Scrappers. Gloria has a lot of talent however she always seems to be putting her foot in her mouth. Her "in your face" approach is grating on the coach and players. The team chemistry is quicklydissolving as Gloria's comments continue to upset almost all of the playersand coaches. It's never good enough for Gloria. She can do no wrong.Readabout Gloria's background, growing up with brothers and a father who aren'tthe sensitive types. Her father, the owner of a junkyard (for whom the teamis named) hasn't got patience for anything or anybody and Gloria is muchthe same. The book gives us a different view on girls in sports. Gloria'sbaseball skills are excellent. She excels in the field and at bat. One ofonly three girls on the team -she's not backing down to anyone. As youfollow through the story we see how Gloria comes to understand that her wayis not the best. She learns how to help her team mates. To think firstbefore talking. To control her temper and understand how to get your pointacross in a socially acceptable way. The book deals with resolvingconflict, but keeps it light, using the sports theme to soften the impact. It's a good way for your child to absord this important information. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Return of the Home Run Kid
Sylvester was a kidthat the last year only hit homers but these year he was playing badly. His coach Mr.Baruth asked him to be a bench warmer for the Redbirds team.Sylvester, in his way home, knew a misterious man called Cheeko who helped him to play better this season. Sylvester now is playing hot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Return of the Home Run Kid
Sylvester Coddmyer III was a pretty nice kid who grew up in a nice family. He was an only child at the age of 12. In the past year Sylvester had an almost perfect homerun season, he had Mr. baruth's coaching tips to help him get through. The next year came along and there was no Mr. Barthum to help him out. He started out as a bench warmer, if he ever got to play it would just be for an inning or so. One day on the way home from practice a man named Cheeko said do you want me to help you out a little. Sylvester said sure, they practiced about 4 times aweek and befor you know it Sylvester is back hitting homeruns. Inside Sylvester really wondered who this Cheeko guy was anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is cool how he hit home runs as he did last season.
Last season, Sylvester Codmyre III hit home runs every time but once, when he was up. But in his second season, again he started out slumping. Then he started hitting them back into home runs and he started being good atdefense again. It is a good book because it's the second version butSylvester has a different helper. ... Read more
