4-0 out of 5 stars Good Story
This is good sports story with an interesting off the court plot. This whole series is full of good lessons for kids that older sports fans might find corny.I had some of the original Hilton books as a boy and simply loved them. I read them so many times that I, however, feel betrayed by some of the revisions that the authors chose to make when they re-released the books. The changes sometimes create confusion and may cause inconsistencies in later books in the series. For example, one player who is 6-5 in the original version, is 6-10 in this revised version. No big deal in this story, but a later book in the series deals with the team's lack of a big man.If you are a Hilton fanatic, I think you will see what I mean.Still, this is one of the better stories in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great Chip Hilton Book!
What a great book! The Chip Hilton Sports Series is filled with good sports action and characters I can relate to. Soapy is really terrific in this book, and Chip Hilton is always somebody to look up to. I recommend this book and all the books in the Chip Hilton Series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Like the Hardy Boys, but better
When I was younger I used to read the Hardy Boys books, which were great. Then my dad gave me some of his old Chip Hilton books from when he was young. They were just like the Hardys, except with sports.I didn't know they were back in print until now, but they are definately worth the $5 orso, whether for yourself or a gift for a 10-12 year old. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A LOOK AT GAMBLING
Gambling has always been around in our culture. People bet on horses, dogs, play the lottery, and sports. Gambling in its varied forms has been used to fund both government and religious institutions. At times it was illegal to gamble but today everyone partakes in the gaming industry and the most notable group are teenagers.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Inspiration
"Little Lefty" changed my life back in the 1992-93 school year (fifth grade for me), and for that alone the book deserves a 5-Star rating. This was the book, written by the late Matt Christopher (an early childhood favorite of mine), that inspired me to begin a writing career.5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book Ever
This is the best book ever Author Matt ChristopherIf you like baseball you'll like this book.It is about a boy that is small for his age andleft-handed, but he loves baseball so much that he won't quit. He was avery good pitcher, but he only played two to three inninga each game. Because he was so small, the coach didn't play him a lot. He broke his arm riding a horse.Hecouldn't wait to get the cast offso he could get back to playing baseball. By the end of the season he was well and he ended up winning a big game forhis team as the last pitcher. It was my favorite sports book ever! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The story of Grant Hill through his first year in the N.B.A.
This juvenile biography of Grant Hill came out after his first season in the N.B.A. in 1994-95.Consequently, instead of detailing a lot of the injuries that have plagued Hill in recent years, especially after he left the Detroit Pistons to sign with the Orlando Magic, the focus is on Hill's stellar prep and college careers as well as the promise for superstardom he showed as a N.B.A. rookie.Hill's story is also unique because his father, Calvin Hill, was a former star N.F.L. running back.Young readers will see how having a famous father, who engaged in PGAs (Post Game Analyses), not only impact Grant Hill's personality but also his decision to attend Duke University.5-0 out of 5 stars Well writen book I enjoyed it dearly
I was impressed with this book. It was really well writen. I recommend people to check this book out because it is surprising to what happens to Grant Hill throughout his life.

3-0 out of 5 stars big star but boring author.
the book was slow moving and very boring the author made Grant Hill's life look bad. There was times when I almost wanted to stop reading the book. the book focused mainly on Grant Hill's coaching career. The book didn't talk much about his childhood or his NBA career. The author could have madethe book a little longer by be more descriptive and not skipping threw hiswhole entire life. I don't really think the author really knew alot aboutGrant Hill. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Quebec Rocks! I just don't get the hockey...
Quebec City Crisis was a book that I enjoyed, even though I do not like hockey. I rate it four stars because, being a non-hockey player, I do NOT get the hockey games they play. Roy MacGregor forges books that are both mystery and hockey.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book Again In This Series
The tounrament where some famous hockey stars like Mario Lemieux, Guy Lafleur and Wayne Gretzky first showed the world their talents. Now it is time for the Screech Owls to do the same. The dream trip turns into a nightmare. Travis is asked by a newspaper to keep a diary and someone sabotoged it. The fans start booing them and the Screech Owls must find a way to find the culprit. Will they find him in time?

5-0 out of 5 stars I think......
I think this book is excellent, i have read all the screech owl books in order up to this one, except i read Nightmare in Nagano before this cuz that wuz the only one my friends had that i had cuz we had to do a report. I haven't finished the book yet but i will be finished the book at the end of the month. I love Roys books and i absolutly adore the way he describes the hockey games that the Owls play (i play hockey in real life). I love the way roy has hockey and mystery genre into one book and how all of his mysterys actually make sense after all the hockey games and investigations. I love the mysterys and i plan to read the rest of the owls books (even if i can't keep up with the pace they are being made). Thanks roy for the many great books! Keep reading and never stop writing all those books that i adore soo much. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff
Much like others much more famous than I, I also believe that the Chip Hilton series reminds us all of the basic values of life. I would certainly recommend the series to all young people, even at the risk of them being put off by Clair Bee's "hokeyness". There are great lessons contained wthin each story as Chip and his friends work very hard to navigate through their teen years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sports story for kids
For those readers new to the Chip Hilton series, this is a good book in the series as it has basketball and a good off-the-court story.I feel the earlier books in the Hilton series are the best.I had many of original Hilton books as a kid and absolutely loved them.I re-read them through the years and am truly disappointed my son never got into them the way my brothers and I did.Of course, I was thrilled when the stories were re-released so I could read the volumes I never read. The stories are still great, but I am greatly annoyed by the small changes the authors chose to make, in attempt to modernize them, when they re-released the books.I have found these small changes often lead to confusion in the stories, particular in this book. For example, in "Touchdown Pass" Speed Morris is referred to as being black, which he was not in the original version. No big deal. That is, until this story which dealt with racism very well as the team took a young black player to a hostile town for the first time. The fact that Speed was now black changed the significance of the event, which the author apparently realized and scrambled to make sense out of it.Oh, well, my brother (another Hilton fanatic) told me to lighten up and just enjoy the books!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good book for all ages!!!
I loved this book.Chip Hilton is a good series for girls and boys.I can't wait to read the rest of them.I am going to get Championship Ball today. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Home Run Hero
This is the second book in the Scrappers series by Dean Hughes. Each book in the Scrappers series covers a different position in baseball and bases the story around that position. This book is based on Wilson, the teamscatcher and power hitter. The team members are starting to get frustratedby the number of games they are losing and tempers are flaring. The team isnot working together and there is a definite attitude problem.Wilson justwants everyone to work together, but then he starts to fall into a battingslump and when Coach Carlton gives him advice to improve his bat, he onlygets worse.Soon, the morale of the team will improve and Wilson learnsthat the catcher is the leader of the team and his ability to take controland calm the team down makes him well-suited for this position. He becomesa leader on and off the field.Read more
