5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
I found this book for my little girl, after discovering a Dinosaur and Shark book for my son. It is so beautiful I sat in awe for about 30 minutes looking at it when I first received it. It's not Disney's Cinderella, so don't look for any comparisons. Instead, it is a beautiful story full of imaginative pop-ups that allow little girls to pretend they are in the story as Cinderella herself. My little girl (2 years) just loves to sit with me and my husband and flip through the story. Even my 3 year old boy loves to look at it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cinderella:A Pop-Up Fairy Tale
A fabulous & fun pop up book with extra surprises on each page, in each corner.Bought as a gift for my niece (age 6) and she absolutely loved it!

5-0 out of 5 stars More than a pop-up
This is an exquisitely done work of art, with pop-ups that rival origami.I purchased it for my four year old granddaughter' birthday, but found that even at that age, supervision when reading (and care turning pages) is advisable. It is a book to be kept for years and handed down for generations.A great find and well worth the investment. ... Ever since Mark's parents died, he has been living with Bryon. The boys are more like brothers than mere friends. They've been inseparable--until recently. Something seems to be changing between them, and Bryon can't figure it out. Is it Cathy, Bryon's new girlfriend? Is Mark jealous? Bryon is also tired of the street fighting, but Mark seems unable to quit. And where is Mark getting all of that money? In Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars That was then , this is now
The theme of the story "This was then this is now" is changed throughout the story the boys Mark and Bryon seem to be in school and walking down the streets most of the time and wondering anywhere there situation is. The aspect of the story I personally liked was that Mark and Bryon are in different situations, like Bryon has a girlfriend that mark and is constantly getting into street fights and mark is jealous of Bryon having a girlfriend. And at the same time mark seems to be coming up with money and can't control himself and won't seem to quit most of the time. The aspects that weren't so interesting to me were that Bryon gets into street fights the were caused by the stupidest things and doesn't want to resolve the problems he just wants to fight all the time and he gets tired of fighting already. I think that images that Hinton put out were very persuading to the person whose reading the book, because he said how Bryon sticks up for mark in a fight and how there on the streets dealing with the problems, I also thought that the main characters were believable because I would think the boys were just the typical best friends that get in to situations that the boys get into in the story. The story was an adventure that two best friends have in a lifetime.

As a 7th Grade Language Arts teacher in search ofgood book for my students, I hit a home run with this one.Wow! Powerful!
5-0 out of 5 stars Another outstanding novel about teen boys in trouble
When I was in tenth grade, my English teacher read "The Outsiders" by S. E. Hinton to the class. I loved the book so much that I reread it one year later and consider it one of the best examples of fiction about teenagers. While this book isn't quite the caliber of "Outsiders" it is another excellent novel about teenagers experiencing troubles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended autobiography
Chinese Cinderella is a heart-wrenching and sorrowful tale of a young girl growing up in a classic Cinderella setting. Treated harshly by her step-mother and ignored by her father, Adeline's life seems doomed to perpetual sadness. Every time something arrives to lighten up her life, it is taken away from her. She has to deal with loneliness and despair, but throughout the story she never gives up hope, that someday, somehow, things will get better.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book I've Ever Read!!!
I first read this book when I was in the 3rd grade. It was a fantastic true story (I'm mostly all about fantasy) that I enjoyed reading. I have read that book at least once a year every year since it was published. Each time I'm drawn into her world and remember how blessed my life is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great memoir
Adeline theoretically should have everything she wants in life- her father is very wealthy, she is able to attend prestigious college schools and afford an education, and she is extremely intelligent, remaining at the top of her class through the years of her youth. While she presents the fa?ade of having a happy family life, however, she is the despised child of a large family. Her mother passed away as a result of her birth, causing her father and four older siblings to blame her for their mother's death, considering her unlucky and barely a member of the family. When Adeline's father remarries, life continues to deteriorate- she, as well as the rest of her siblings, are scorned by their step-mother, who favors her own two children highly.Adeline struggles first to find acceptance in her family, and later to at least escape her family by putting her brilliant mind to work, immersing herself in her schoolwork so she will one day be able to support herself and her aunt, who is her only faithful friend.

Editorial Review

MacLachlan, author of Unclaimed Treasures, has written an affecting tale for children. In the late 19th century a widowed midwestern farmer with two children--Anna and Caleb--advertises for a wife. When Sarah arrives she is homesick for Maine, especially for the ocean which she misses greatly. The children fear that she will not stay, and when she goes off to town alone, young Caleb--whose mother died during childbirth--is stricken with the fear that she has gone for good. But she returns with colored pencils to illustrate for them the beauty of Maine, and to explain that, though she misses her home, "the truth of it is I would miss you more." The tale gently explores themes of abandonment, loss and love. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sarah, Plain and Tall
Sarah, Plain and Tall is a heartfelt story about a family who lost a mother and wife. Jacob, Caleb and Anna's father, must make the decision to place an ad for a wife and mother for the best for all of them.Sarah, a young lady from Maine, returns letters back and forth to the whole family getting to know them better. She decides to come down to the prairies of Kansas from the sea for a month to see if this is a life she could become accustomed to.When the children see the yellow bonnet coming down the road, excitement was in the air along with anticipation.Would she decide to stay and marry Jacob, or would this place be too small and too far away from the sea for Sarah.
5-0 out of 5 stars great great GREAT!
The book is about the Ann and Caleb's mom dies in her sleep after having Caleb. After a few years Jacob (the dad) writes an ad asking for a new wife. And Sarah answered back, and she answered all the questions.

Forged by Fire influenced me in may different ways. The more I read the book themore it became violent. It made me think what if I wa sin this situation.Would I have the courage to stand up to my step-father and get help.I learned to perserver and not give up.That is what I learned from this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Review by Aaron
I think that Forged by Fired is a good book for teenagers to read. I think it is a good book to read because it tells what to do if you are getting abused by your parents. This is a book that could happen in real life. I think both girls and boys would enjoy this book. I listened to this book on audio tape and I like how the guy could talk in many types of voices. The suspense of the story made me wanting to keep on listening to it. This book is the second book in a set of three. I would recommend reading the other two.

2-0 out of 5 stars Stop fast forwarding, please press "slow"
I want to stress that the actual plot of the story and the characters were interesting and I enjoyed their purpose, action, dialogue. But I read a review about this book somewhere that said that too much happened at once in the beginning. I don't take peoples' reviews too seriously until I read the book, but this time around, I wish I would have listened. The author tried to cram FAR too much into one small book of 156 pages. The boy was 3 years old at the beginning and by the time it ended, he was 17.People were on drugs, in jail, out of jail, court cases complete, basketball tryouts, friends made, learned to cook, car accidents, dying, all within a few pages. The whole time I read this story, I felt like the author had written an outline of what should happen in each chapter and instead of fleshing it out and letting it grow progressively, she just rammed it altogether and then threw in stuff that happened in a previous book.I read one book by her and bought them all...and now I'm starting to regret it.I hope the fourth one is better, because I loved the first one about Andy, couldn't get into the "Romiette and Julio" book at all, and now this one is crammed.I'm confused over whether I like this author or not--in the book about Andy, the dialogue was on point and the plot was organized and easy-to-understand.In the "Romiette and Julio" book, the dialogue was out of wack and the story was slow. This book had great dialogue and an interesting plot like the Andy book, but it went entirely too fast.I feel like I'm reading books from several different people instead of one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More about Sarah and her family
Hi, I'm Paulina and I'm one of Patricia's biggest fans.I read the book, Skylark. It started out as a story about family and life in the frontier land.A week had passed and there had been no rain.It was very hot, opening windows was no use.The cow had her calf and then the barn burned down, meanwhile Sarah's aunts had sent her a letter inviting her to come to Maine, papa wouldn't go because he wanted to take care of the land, so he sent Sarah and the children. After a month without papa everyone was getting homesick and missing him very much, finally they saw papa rushing toward them yelling "it rained!"Papa had come to take them all home.

This book was not my favorite book in the world but i definitely learned from it. I learned that people can change. I learned that you should't ddoubt someone when you don't know the details. I would recomend this book to people who like realistic books.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'More Perfect than the Moon' is a perfect read
Author Patricia MacLachlan, most famous for "Sarah, Plain and Tall," invites us back to re-visit the Witting family in "More Perfect than the Moon."Mother Sarah is pregnant in "More Perfect than the Moon," much to youngest daughter Cassie's chagrin.Cassie chronicles her feelings and emotions about the upcoming arrival of the 'terrible baby' in a private journal she keeps.Cassie's private journal entries are sometimes true happenings around the Witting farm.Other times, the entries are what Cassie wishes would happen.Either way, the entries had me smiling and laughing out loud.MacLachlan holds true to her typical writing style and shows us that change is inevitable and made bearable by the love of family.Another heart-warming, laugh-out-loud, easy read by MacLachlan.

5-0 out of 5 stars A STELLAR READING
Versatile and always impressive actress Glenn close surely merits all the accolades and awards she has received (4 Oscar nominations, 3 Tony Awards, 1 Emmy Award, and 3 Grammy nominations).Few will forget her over the top performance in Fatal Attraction then a remarkable switch of gears to 101 Dalmatians. She uses her considerable gifts to vivify the narrator in this, the fourth installment in the Sarah Plain and Tall stories.

Branwell Zamborska's baby sister Nikki is in a coma.No one knows what happened except Vivian, the English au pair, and Branwell.Vivian got on the line that day and said that Branwell dropped the baby, so he's in a juvenile detention center.Branwell hasn't said anything since the Nikki stopped breathing.Connor, his best friend, doesn't believe that Branwell is really guilty, so he starts visiting and trying to communicate with him.Piece by piece Connor finds out what really happened that day, but he has to find enough evidence to get Branwell out of there. This is a great "serious" book that's light enough to appeal to young adults.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read
This exciting novel makes you want to read it over and over again, to make sure you didn't miss a single clue or hint when the story is unraveling.Konigsburg writes a suspenseful lead by beginning the story with a 911 call where Branwell, a thirteen year old boy is struck dumb.Just after reading those first few pages, the reader is compelled to read the rest of the story to see how it will unfold.Since this story is told from Connor's point of view, it makes it easier for children to relate to when they are reading it.This book portrays the realities of life for some of today's children since many children today have nannies or au pairs and many children are dealing with troubled friendships and families. It discusses serious issues, such as emerging sexuality that mature middle school children and high school students could relate to.The author touches on those issues in a gentle but mature manner.Konigsburg also focuses on the meaning of friendship and family throughout this book. Connor and Branwell rekindle their friendship and realize how important it is to have a true friend you can trust telling your deepest thoughts. Both teenagers realize the importance of supporting and relying on their family members, especially in a time of need. This book is definitely a "must read." ... God loves us just the way we are weather it be in a mink coat or rags.

I enjoyed this book a lot.I think that it speaks to how difficult it is for all of us to accept new situations and how difficult it is to lose someone that we love. One of this girl's prize possessions is her memory string and as the story unfolds around it, we get to see her learn to accept the new turns her life has taken.I found it fascinating to go and research button charm strings of the past after reading this book and then help my daughters to create memory strings of their own.The illustrations are beautiful as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE FOR ALL GIRLS THAT ARE IN A DIVORCE SITUATION!!!
A wonderful book!It explains what and why girl's are feeling and thinking the way they do in a manner that is FAIR to all parties. It doesn't show bias to any individual (Mother/Father/Step Parent/Child).This book can help show a child that they are not alone and that it is normal to think and feel the way they do.It also explains when/how a parent is putting the child in the middle and how that shouldn't happen. And how a child plays both parents and shouldn't.The book stresses that the child should talk about their feelings with their parents. This book is a must have for any girl that has experienced divorce, whether it is happening now or happened 10 years ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars HELP! Has helped much more than I ever thought.
After Separating, I realized things were becoming increasingly difficult for my daughter. I knew I needed help. So when I saw the title 'HELP!' I bought this book immediately. I have never been so impressed with a book. It asks the questions that kids have, but often are afraid (or unable) to ask and gives parents a way to answer - without too much information. HELP! assisted my daughter in breaking the silence with her therapist and to sort out some issues she had with her mother and me. It acts as a guidebook - informing children of some ways to speak up if they feel that their feelings are being squashed or if basic child/parent rules are being broken. HELP! even describes what some of those basic rules are. I'm actually purchasing one for my Ex-wife that she can read with our daughter. One of the best things that has come from this book is that my daughter now keeps a notebook and writes down questions for me in it, I respond to her and we bring those in to her therapists office. This approach lets us all know what important issues are on her mind, and how best to HELP! her through these difficult times. The best review though - I can't go more than a few days without being asked to read from the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Role Play
Being a stepmother of two beautiful children that came from a not so beautiful divorce, I was determined to help them understand the divorce and my role in their family. This was a wonderful book that allowed me to sitdown with my stepdaughter and read the book together. The book is brokendown into sections ranging all the way from feelings of divorce, mom anddad dating again, to acquring a stepmother or stepfather. Each chapteropened up with a fictional "letter to the editor" type letterwritten by a children asking for advice. My stepdaughter enjoyed readingthe letters out loud and I would respond with reading the chapters outloud.I would end each chapter by asking her how she related and what herthoughts and feelings were. This book allows a great opportunity forstepparents to interact with their stepchildren and provides someclarification to the child as to what divorce is all about. ... Mikey is a boy that has very strong beliefs and has to work already at the age of thirteen. He has a dad, and he works on the charter boat too. They set out on a big charter weekend and catch a monster fish that will go down in the record books. But there is a problem. This fish can't go down in the record books if one of the skippers hooks it, and Mikey hooked it. But Cal somehow bribed Bill to say that he caught it. He isn't ready for the clients that are using the charter boat for three days. Cal and Ernie are two brothers from Wyoming that are up for a big adventure. 5-0 out of 5 stars Gingerbread
Overall, I'd say this was fun to read. Cyd may seem sarcastic and snobby but the way she talks makes everyone know she's really a good person. She's just got the rebel thing going on, since she doesn't like her parents much and she's always fantacizing about how things could be different and what could happen when she gets older.
5-0 out of 5 stars READ ME!!!!!!! I AM #1!!!!!!
"Girl, you look like trouble." That girl is Cyd Charisse, the protagonist of Rachel Cohn's book Gingerbread, the first novel of a two-book series. Sid is also the name of her stepfather. Cyd's biological father, or as she calls him "Frank-real-dad," lives in New York with his two children. Cyd hardly remembers him now: she's only met him once when she was five, at the Dallas Fort-Worth airport. Frank bought her a dolly at the airport and Cyd named her Gingerbread. Now she is faced with many problems and her boyfriend, her friend Sugar Pie, and Gingerbread are all she's got.
5-0 out of 5 stars fun bad-girl-repentance story
Cyd Charisse (named after the famous dancer and actress) has just gotten kicked out of boarding school, and is having trouble settling back in with her uptight family, and her boyfriend, Shrimp, suddenly wants his space. So her parents agree to send her across the country to New York City to visit with "Frank real-dad," who she's only seen once, and who gave her her beloved ragdoll christened "Gingerbread."This heartwarming story tells about true family values, no matter how spread out your family is. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Reconsidering My Review Now
I laughed so hard when I read this book to my sons that I actually had tears in my eyes.I think they got more of a kick out of seeing how much I enjoyed the dialogue and pictures than anything else. After reading the review titled "Think twice", however, I have to admit that I feel a little chagrined.I come from a group of people that is very misunderstood (i.e. Muslims) and I am sorry to see that I fell into the trap of laughing at "stereotypes" without thinking twice about the offense that might be caused as a result.I thought I was more evolved than that.My bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars Down Right Purdy!
I thought this was a beautiful Americanized version of Perrault's "Cendrillon".Unlike another reveiwer, I was not at all offended and thought this was a charming tale. The author's interpretation of a down-home style Cinderella story was right on target.I loved the idea of the hog replacing a fairy god mother!A fun read!

1-0 out of 5 stars Think Twice
This book is a mockery of Southern Appalachian people. Not only is the dialect incorrectly conveyed, but the pictures are demeaning as well. Mr. Schroeder, a native Californian, obviously made little (if any) attempt to get to know the group about whom he writes. ... Read more
