5-0 out of 5 stars Charming adventure story
The story (and series) centers on a family of four orphaned siblings, 14 year-old Henry, 12 year-old Jessie, 10 year-old Violet and 5 year-old Benny. The four have runaway and are attempting to live on their own in order to avoid being split up or sent to live with their mean grandfather. They locate an abandoned boxcar in the woods and set up housekeeping there. They manage quite well until Violet falls ill causing them to ask the local doctor for all.In the end though all is well.
5-0 out of 5 stars So simple and so wonderful!
These books are wonderful. My son who loves sci-fi, dragons and lego, thinks these wonderful books are AWESOME! They capture his attention like no others. As I read these to aloud to him, he laughs, asks questions and wishes he could be there. Although the writing is very simple, the ideas behind them are not. When I first started reading this series to him he said to me,"Mom while you are reading I always feel like I am there with the children doing what they are doing." "YEAH!" Great stories about children who are THINKING and I love my son to want to emulate that!

3-0 out of 5 stars If I were king of the forest...
I used to like these books. Now I think they are stupid. Especially Benny. He is so stupid. And he's really annoying. There has to be at least five billion books in the series. Anyone that has all of the books in the series must really, really, really, really, really love them. Why do they call their grandfather "Grandfather"? Violet's like "Oh Grandfather! You can have all of my internal organs if you want." Then Benny's like "What's green?" Then their Grandfather is always taking them on these pointless trips for no reason whatsoever. You would think that they would either run out of places to go or get tired of going on the trips. I would be suprised if they had a week at home in one year. Why do they call them the Boxcar Children? In some books they probobly don't even have the word boxcar in some of the books. Don't they ever go to school? Acually I wouldn't be suprised if Benny didn't go to school considering he's so stupid and annoying. They are so cheesy. No family gets along that well and never fights. If there was a family like that it would be a miracle. And I'm talking about ones with more than one child. And nobody has that perfect of a life. I bet they never had one problem or something bad happening to them in the hole series. If I never liked these books then I would have given this series one star. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great series!
My kids, 9, 6, and 3, love these books, which is a surprise since they don't contain any electronics, fantasy adventures, or magic. They beg me to read "just one more chapter!" everytime. So refreshing to read about kids interacting with nature and who are so polite to adults.Definitely a good purchase.

3-0 out of 5 stars Generally okay, but mixed
Warner's second in the Boxcar series is pretty much more of the same. Gone however is any real novelty or discovery.
5-0 out of 5 stars So many surprises!
When I say "So many surprises," I really mean it!For example, the children find Indian artifacts, when they never thought they would.Benny and his friend found a mini-cave.I like this book because it had so many surprises!

5-0 out of 5 stars MYSTERY RANCH
I love this book it kept me on the edge of my seat. i recomend this book to people who like mysteries.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's not so mysterious
Why isn't this book as good as the rest? I hated it when i was little, much as I loved the rest of the original series. Years have passed since then and I read it again and it's not so bad. But the other reviewers are correct in the fact that this is no mystery, really. 1-0 out of 5 stars What a flop!
This is the most boring book I have ever read! I loved the boxcar children books, and all of them I would rate better the 3 stars, but this one was so borring. MYSTERY ranch? What MYSTERY? The was no mystery in this book at all. The whole thing was just so borring. It's the worst boxcar book I have ever read, and I have read about 42 of their so far 87 books! It's just so borring. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It's hard to believe, but....
I find myself amazed that I, childhood (and lifelong) fan of the Bobbsey Twins, Encyclopedia Brown, Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, the Hardy Boys and others... I somehow missed the Boxcar Children until now.Don't let this happen to you!
5-0 out of 5 stars Benny, Jessie, Henry and Violet teach School?
Schoolhouse Mystery was good. When Benny's friend Max challenges him to go to a little town that he says has no mystery, they ask Elizabeth Gray, who owns the schoolhouse, she lets Benny, Jessie, Violet and Henry be schoolteachers. One day in school, Benny's student Isabelle tellls him about TheMoney Man, Mr. Fred Willet, he had traded antiques for money or nice andshiny things. In the schoolhouse there is a painting of George Washington, and on one of his buttons, instead of a button, there is a space. At theend, when John Carter and Benny discover that there is a secret place inthe chimney, that Freddy Willet has 3 names and stole schoolroom books andlibrary books. At the end, Freddy gets aressted. If you like mysteries, then this book is for you!

My daughter told me about this book and how she thinks it deserves "4 stars". She said that this book was about the Aldens (also known as the Boxcar Children) and how they get new neighbors. They make friends withthe neighbors and start to build a treehouse. They discover somethingmysterious while looking out of the treehouse. She wants me to read thebook to find out what happens. 5-0 out of 5 stars Go Mike
This, along with The Woodshed Mystery, was my favourite book (not just Boxcar Children, but books in general) for some time. It brings back to life the definite promise of adventure from the third book that slumbered through the fourth, and is one of the most well-laid-out and realistic of the series. At least I've always thought so. :)4-0 out of 5 stars This Book Was Great!
This book was a great book. When Mike's house burns down the Alden children hear a rumor that Mike burned his own house down! But the Alden children know he didn't do it. The only reason why I didn't like it is because they only mentioned Snowball once, and I LOVE HORSES and all other animals.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book was a very interesting book.
One warm night four children stood in front of a bakery. No one knew them.No one where they had come from.Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny used to live alone in a boxcar. Now they have a home with theirgrandfather and are spending the summer out west on Mystery Ranch.Theexcitement begins when they meet their old friend, Mike. When Mike isblamed for starting a fire, the Boxcar Children know he's innocent.Butcan they discover who's really behind Mike's Mystery-before it's too late? I really enjoyed this book there is a lot of mystery in this book.I thinkthat this book is definitely worth reading."The four Alden childrencould hardly wait to get back to Mystery Ranch."That's probably theonly thing about the book that I don't like.Which is those fake names ofranches or towns or something like that. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Bound for fun
The Snow Boun Mystery is actually my favorite Boxcar Children Book, I'm not kidding either! Once when I ran out of books to read and my Mother refused to take me to the librarie I read the whole book twice. Since I've been reading other childrens mysteries the book is harder for me toremember.Ifeel like reading it right now! some things I remember are thatthe Aldens Grandfather ,James Alden, has a friend who allows the Aldenchildren his log cabin for some time. Also I remember a grocery store abouta mile away and a nice family in which lives there , On the way to bringfood to the Aldens one person gets stuck th others get to the Aldens andthey get they get that person safe and sound where the family stays untllthe storm wore off. There is also apart about finding letters in the attick, apart about Viiolet disapearing, and a part abouta closet near the fireplace. I don't want to give all of it away but, it's just hard not todo.Thankyou for your time to read all about this fabulousbook! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Benny Uncovers a Mystery
In general, the Boxcar Children series has one flaw - although I don't think I've ever read the kids' ages mentioned, there are clues to them in things like the fact that they get jobs, and that Henry is going to college in the fall. They all, however, tend to speak like very young children, which I find a little patronizing to the reader.

I think this book is about four children who want jobs and they find one.The two boys went to their job and found a mystery about somebody stealing jewelry. My favorite part was when they uncovered the mystery.I think kids 7 and up should read this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars why i liked The Mystery Behind the Wall
There are many different Resons why i liked this book.one reason is because it has great characters the Two main characters are boys who become good friends over vaction. They become good friends because one of the boys is staying at the others house and they find something verry intresting behind the wall in the Guest room and they start trying to find out what it exacle is so they find out that there are a lot more clues, and they don't give up they keep trying to find out all the clues. Another resons why i thought it was a great book is because it gave great Clues and very intresting ones because the clues were'nt in ovyouse places they took a day or too to find the clue. I was always woundering whats going to happen next and if they where going to find out the Mystery at the very end. The reson why i rated this book 3 stars because it was'nt my favoirt book i've ever read but it's near to my favourts.i got really into the book and really enjoyed it. I saggest this book to people who like Mystery books they would really like the Mystery Behind The Wall.

1-0 out of 5 stars A real shame
This is the first of the shameful series of Boxcar Children books that were written long after the author's death. The first 19 are wonderfully written classics of children's literature. The rest, for the most part, are pointless fluff, not engaging for parents or most children. If you are reading them all to your children, and in order, they will also become very confused here: Throughout Warner's original series, the characters aged and matured quite a bit. Starting with this book, they are inexplicably returned to and perpetually stuck at their original ages.
