5-0 out of 5 stars accurate representations of trains for reading to toddlers
This short board book is sure to be a hit with little train lovers. It is very sturdy and each 2-page spread depicts at least 2 train cars. Because this is a Lionel book, the illustrations of the various cars are very accurate and more detailed than other train board books that are on the market (some of which are very cartoon-y and not true to life in appearance). 4-0 out of 5 stars Little Red Caboose Chug, Chug, Chug
As a child I loved the song Little Red Caboose. Now as a mother I am teaching this song to my two year old.We were delighted to find such a colorful and accurate book of all the train cars, including the red caboose. Now when my son sees a train, he immediately break out into songand wants to read his Little Red Caboose book. The book is excellent forteaching colors and the pictures are sure to delight very young readers. It is good to be able to tell a child about the way trains use to be. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars My Son Loves It
It's no secret among (most) parents of Thomas enthusiasts that Britt Allcroft is a horrible writer. For those unfamiliar, Britt Allcroft is a British lady who has written stories, capitalzing on the Thomas the Tank Engine series written by Rev. W. Awdry. She has made a bundle, judging by all the Thomas train sets, DVD's, books, and other paraphanalia.
1-0 out of 5 stars What a mess
This book is just plain awful. My kids seem to like it, but personally I try to avoid reading it to them, the story is just too incoherent. Basically, it's a short summary of the movie (which is almost as bad). Also, for some unknown reason the "creators" of the book (and movie) introduces characters and situations that just don't match the Thomas universe that I'm familiar with (the whole concept of the "villain" Diesel 10 as well as Mr. Conductor and thegold dust thing just doesn't work for me). On the other hand, Lady is a wonderful character which is way underdeveloped.

2-0 out of 5 stars If my son didn't really like it, I'd give it 0 stars
I have to agree with the previous reviewer who said this book is disjointed.I cringe everytime I read it to my son (2 yrs).He likes it so we read it most nights before bed.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Where She Stops, Does Anyone Know?
This rhyming book tells the tale of Engine Number Nine on a destination unknown. Along the way a variety of passengers are picked up; from farmers and their pigs, to mothers and their crying babies, to an entire marching band. Where is the train full of motley passengers going? That's the simple riddle in this easy to follow story. The colorful illustrations are fun to look at and add a dash of flavor to this playful book.

4-0 out of 5 stars train ride to the fair, rhyming text
Rhyming text about people and farm animals getting on the passenger coach (led by a steam train). We know not where they are going. Finally it is revealed that they are going to the fair. Animals walk upright and eat cotton candy and do other human activities. All get on the train and snooze for the train ride home. I love the rhyming text, the fact that it is about a train ride, and that they are going to a fair. Trains and fairs are two of my son's favorite things so this book is a big hit in our house! 5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read again and again
This is one of our 2 year old's favorite books. She will sit still for this one with all its rhyming and detailed illustrations of a train that picks up various passengers on the way to the county fair.As parents, weeven enjoy reading "Engine, Engine" again & again...... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Breath taking picutres
A wonderful picture book of this steam locomotive line, in the beautiful setting of the Rocky's. Our 3 year old loves to look at the pictures and point out things in the various scenes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lovely 'you are there' train ride
Young train fans who enjoy vivid, bright picturebook stories will find All Aboard! A True Train Story captures perfectly the sights, sounds, and travels of some of America's oldest steam engines. Kuklin's color photos provide plenty of close-up and action shots, while dialogue covers both train operations and scenic passages. A lovely 'you are there' train ride.
3-0 out of 5 stars Can't you hear the whistle blowing?
Kids constantly and without cease, amaze. For example, you enter into the profession of Children's Librarianship with a set of preconceived notions. At least, I did.I assumed that kids, little kids, would be interested in the following topics:Fairy tales, dinosaurs, trucks, firemen, and various animals of a pet-like nature. What didn't I count on?The lure of trains.Children adore trains. They like to learn about what makes a train run. They like to see where it goes and what kinds of sounds it makes. Why on earth is this?I would've thought that in this topsy-turvy world of high tech electronics and sleek modes of transportation the world of trains would have been abandoned and forgotten. Not so much. And as a result, various picture books have capitalized on this locomotive goldmine. Some of these are delicious inventive affairs, like Margaret Wise Brown's, "Two Little Trains" (be sure you get the version illustrated by Leo and Diane Dillon). And then there are others like "All Aboard!".A perfectly harmless book that shows photographs of trains with some vague sound effects and, as a result, captures the hearts of youngsters everywhere. It's a fine book.Just not as great as some of the other train tales out there.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good book for children, but...
Not one for adults, really. It's well illustrated, but the text is very basic. It's a good book for beginners. But if you're even an average railfan, you'll probably find this book dull. You won't find anything in the way of new information.
5-0 out of 5 stars SPLENDID ILLUSTRATIONS AND DIAGRAMS
Once very much a part of America's landscape steam locomotives are now things of the past.Nonetheless, these huge iron horses continue to fascinate. With pictures and well researched text Karl Zimmerman introduces young readers to the trains that once were the backbone of our country's transportation.Their whistles called and their smoke left vaporous trails wherever they traveled.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Way For Train Lovers To Learn Their ABC's
Thomas's ABC Book features color photographs of the beloved characters that live and work on the Island of Sodor, including Bertie the Bus, Sir Topham Hatt, Edward, James, Toby, Percy, Edward, and James. Each letter of the alphabet is highlighted, and is tied into a short sentence about the picture.

I wouldn't say this is the greatest book to learn ABC from. However, my 2 year old, a Thomas fan, loves this book. Big colorful pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to read to toddlers!
We received this book in a book club offer and it was our first experience with Thomas. That said, it's one of our favorites after 4 years of constant reading! The illustrations are SO much better than other books - the children and other characters look more like cartoon drawings instead of the "wooden" figures that you see in the videos. We prefer that in our house quite a bit. Also, the children are so grateful for Thomas picking them up in the end when Bertie breaks down, that one of the little girls gives him a kiss. Thus, sending Thomas into a very cute blush at the end of the story.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thomas and the School Tripp: A Good Addition to the Home Library
What a delightful story. It is one of our new favorites and I think it would make a fine addition to the home sheds of many a young Thomas fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for young Thomas fans!
This is such a darling book. It's a big day for the railway - they've opened a new bridge in the mountains that is so high that "you can't even seen the valley below."Henry, Thomas and Gordon have been selected to take passengers up to the mountains. However, Henry is scared half to death to do it and by the time they get up there, he's convinced Thomas that he should be afraid too.Gordon just buzzes right along and has a great old time while the other two are left to themselves to cross the bridge.Henry tells Thomas to close his eyes so that he won't see anything scary and when he does, Thomas almost goes off the track! He finally opens his eyes when he hears Harold coming to save him and when he does, realizes how beautiful the scenery really is and then goes across the bridge very happily. He also convinces Henry that there's nothing to fear and he crosses as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars 2 year old likes it
I'm buying this book because I checked out a couple of books for my almost-2 son on trains and this was the one out of the batch that he liked the most. The text doesn't impress me much, but the photos are good and I can paraphrase the text. I add in the noises as much as fits the photos and he is totally engrossed.

5-0 out of 5 stars great photos, good amount of detail
High quality photographs accompany a story of a young boy (looks 3 years old) who goes on steam train ride alone. The journey goes from buying the ticket to disembarking. Each step of the journey is documented in the numerous photos and explained in detailed text. The boy is treated to more than just the ride; he converses with train employees who explain in detail information such as how the steam engine works, the names of the various train worker positions (fireman, etc.) and explains what their job is. Different train signs are shown and their meaning is explained. As the train ride begins the boy gazes out the window and gazes at the passing scenes of farms and Amish people. The photos are of the Strausberg, Pennsylvania steam train ride. 4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable book, especially for heavy duty train lovers!
