5-0 out of 5 stars lots of fun for little truck enthusiasts
Our three-year old loves this book. Each spread features a full-page photograph of a big construction vehicle at work with text on the facing page. The wording is exciting, e.g. "Climb up in the cab and start your engine!"and interspersed throughout are symbols that correspond to pads at the right margin of the book. When your child presses the appropriate button, the story comes alive with the sound of a truck starting up, a horn, a digger scooping dirt, a backing-up beep or a jackhammer. The sounds are realistic and pretty clear.Your small truck devotee should really enjoy this exciting book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bob's Boring Episode Synopses
I'm not familiar enough with the series to know for sure, but these stories sound a lot like summaries of BTB episodes to me.The writing is bland, and feels like one must trudge to the end of each story.I guess this book is innocuous enough, but lacks the imaginative language that would make a child want to read it for himself/herself.Can we endure it?Yes, we can. But, hey!Isn't that a Dr. Seuss book next to it on the shelf!Let's read that one instead tonight...

5-0 out of 5 stars Quickly my sons favorite book
Zoom down a train track headed for Dreamland with this beautifully illustrated book. This quickly became my sons favorite book (and he has many). From the fun rhyming verses to the gorgeous pictures this book has it all.My son is 2 and going through a train phase so this book is the perfect thing to send him off to Dreamland. We blow our train whistle and cuddle on the bed. He's already memorized sentences from the book and it's the first book he actually has handed to me and insists I read. This book would be perfect for any child. It makes the whole bedtime ritual very fun and my son just knows it's time for bed when we're done. The illustrations are so vivid and detailed that they are great for teaching what certain objects are.I recommend this for all parents searching for that perfect bedtime book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Loved to death...and still a favorite
My oldest son got this book from Grandma and Grandpa when he was about 2 and he loved it....to pieces. We read it over and over, singing the song, working the pullouts until the wheels on the bus are gone, the mommies and babies on the bus are gone, the wipers on the bus are gone, virtually every page has major damage and even the binding is falling apart.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not for toddlers!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful--and Very Colorful!
Thomas and the Shooting Star caught my son's eye the other day when we were in a "Stuff Mart". He actually chose this book and another Thomas book over a PS2 game!
5-0 out of 5 stars great bed time book
my 2 1/2 yr old daughter loves this Thomas book. It's the perfect length for bedtime reading.Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Thomas books!
If you have a Thomas fan, you need to get this book. It's larger than most too, and very well illustrated. The night sky is just beautiful, dotted with tons of stars.Thomas can't fall asleep on this particular night so Gordon sees an opportunity to tease Thomas after they see a shooting star.Gordon tells Thomas that if he finds the star, the star will tell him how to fall asleep. So Thomas goes off in search of the star and along the way, runs into Percy who is delivering the mail.Thomas leaves before Percy can tell him that Gordon is tricking him again. He then sees Harold who tells Thomas that Gordon is being sneaky and that he won't be able to catch up with the star.Thomas gets very sleepy on his way back to the shed where Edward is waiting for him. While talking, Thomas finally falls asleep.

4-0 out of 5 stars boats hard at work
Busy Boats is a simple picture book with very few words per page. It tells about all sorts of trucks in the world. Each page has a picture of a boat with the job that it does. Each of the boats are operated by cute little cartoon like animals that caught the attention of my 2 year old sister. This book is really neat for boys and girls for all ages.
5-0 out of 5 stars For your little mate & boat lover or future captain!
It's tough looking for a book that is about boats! My nephews birthday was fast approaching and I still hadn't found a book on boats until I happened upon this book! What I love about this book is that it's about all sorts of boats from dinghys to race boats the author Tony Mitton pretty much mentioned every type of boat that floats, except a Chinese Junk or a cannoe! Andhe some how managed to make each sentence rythm as well. The characters aren't too cutesty, so boys and girls should like this book a lot! There is lots of terrific information and on the last page has drawn pictures and a mini explaination for words like lighthouse, anchor, propeller, oars, deck, cabin, name and cargo.

A pity that Hollywood has ruined so many story endings by making them all so damn uplifting. What's wrong with a little melancholy?

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent boat book!updated review ! definately 5 stars
I purchased this boat book for my nephew based on how the book was rated age wise, which was for 4 to 8 year old children. This book is packed with so much wonderful knowledge on different kinds of boats! I just, believe that a 6 year old would get so more out of the book. This book could be used for younger boat lovers if you just read the why type of boat it is and move on, I don't really see my nephew sitting down and paying attention. Plus most are boats he's not familiar with or would ever see here in Florida. The art work is well done and looks very realistic.
5-0 out of 5 stars Biedrzycki and Pallotta team to produce a stunning book!
Jerry Pallotta, a.k.a. "The Alphabet Man," has once again written an entertaining book for children. Coupled with Biedrzycki's illustrations, "The Boat Alphabet Book" is one of Charlesbridge'sbest offerings. This book is a must for any student (or teacher) studyingwater travel.

5-0 out of 5 stars From "tots" to "tens", this book's a winner.
This book has brightly colored, interesting illustrations to engage a tiny tot. It is a rhythmic and engaging alphabet book for the slightly older child. And it is a tightly written informational book on boats for thegradeschool age child.A winner that grows along with the youngster. Wecouldn't resist buying one for both of our grandchildren. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Thomas books - particularly for young kids
My older son is a huge Thomas fan, and had me read him "Thomas the Tank Engine's Big Yellow Treasury" every night for weeks when I bought it. My second son (2 years old) also now adores this book and never tires of the story. Unlike some of the "classic" stories, these are very pleasant and great for small children, as well as for early readers. The books also have bigger and brighter illustrations than many Thomas books, and with 3 stories in one book you get good value. If you have kids between 18 months and 7 or 8 years old, this book is a winner (all of this applies equally to the Big Blue Treasury - the two favorites out of the 30 plus Thomas books the boys have).

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasant, noncontroversial and fun.
My 3 year old boy likes this book quite a bit. He likes to have all three stories read to him before he goes to sleep each night. The stories are pleasant enough and the illustrations are colorful. I find the book alittle bland but the noncontroversial nature of the characters (there'snone of the meanness that characterizes some of the Thomas characters) andthe simple storylines makes for good bedtime reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 3 Year Old LOVES it!
My boy loves Thomas, and the two "big treasury" books are now an indispensible part of our bedtime reading. We have many Thomas books, but these just fascinate him - they are a bit more complete as stories (i.e.beginning, middle, end) than some of the other Thomas books, and comfortingin that there's no nastiness, as in some of the early Thomas books (noangry trains, derailing tricks, etc.) I recommend these books highly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Enthusiastically recommended and enthralling
The collaborative effort of the Plimoth Plantation, authors Peter Arenstam, John Kemp, and Catherine O'Neill Grace, and photographers Sisse Brimberg and Cotton Coulson, Mayflower 1620: A New Look At A Pilgrim Voyage is a superb picture book retelling of history for young people, about the voyage of the Mayflower ship and the lives of the colonists who braved hardship for a new future. Gorgeous, full-color photographs capture reenactments of how life aboard the Mayflower was like, and the down-to-earth text presents the events of history in detail. An enthusiastically recommended and enthralling educational read, Mayflower 1620 is ideal for young readers seeking to broaden and improve their knowledge of American colonial history as well as their basic reading skills. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Maybelle
I just bought this book for my 4-year-old son (and myself!).He loves it.The book is about cable cars in San Francisco and is practically a history lesson. It's also fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cable Car nostalgia for Kids!
One of my favorite books one I was a kid, and enjoyable for grown-ups, as well. Some wonderful art illustrating the workings of a cable car, San Francisco scenery, hilly hills with loads of cable car track, and a sweet story giving a simplified history of the train with a cable, and some contemporary settings(contemporary for when this book was originally released)chronicling the rise and popularity of the bus. But not to worry, Maybelle and her sisters win an election to stay in the city by the bay. Extremely enjoyable and under-rated.

4-0 out of 5 stars I love transportation and Maybelle is a favorite. Great art!
I am five and I can read. I love transportation books. I have books by Virginia Lee Burton- Katy, Mike Mulligan and The Little House. I got Maybelle for Xmas. I like the cable car and the Golden Gate Bridge. I likethe artwork. I looked up San Francisco on my map and on the internet. Ifyou like transportation, this is a great story! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rosie the riveter
This 104-page six-chapter book is perfect for both children and adults wanting to learn about steam power, railroads and the women who worked on them during the two World Wars. We picked up our copy on a visit a few years ago to the U.S. steam railroad national park in Scranton, Pennsylvania. There a woman curator acted the part of Rosie, providing riveting details from the life of a World War II female railroad worker. The children loved it and insisted on getting this volume.5-0 out of 5 stars Will encourage young women to go into the "mans' world"

5-0 out of 5 stars Duck in the Truck (Hardcover)
Purchased for my soon to be three year old Grandson who loves trucks and trains. He really enjoyes the book and wants it read over and over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun story, great springboard for discussion about how people behave ...
My kids have both loved this one.The art is inspired, the predicament is hilarious, the rhyme scheme mostly works, Duck is the most gloriously hopeless egoist since Mr Toad, and the author appears to have faith in parents in general and thus leaves the ethical commentary up to you.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Duck
I love Jez Alborough and this book is great to look at and read and rhyme with -- until you get to the end!Shame on you duck.I read this to a group of children at a day care center yesterday and they were shocked at Duck's treatment of his helpful friends. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars nice story
A very nice story for 3-year-old fan of Thomas trains, videos,
2-0 out of 5 stars Incomplete, dis-jointed, unclear
This is a pretty bad book. It's the 2nd Thomas book, I've ever bought - and I hope most of them aren't as bad as this one. There are several stories in this book, all of which seem to have chunks of the stories missing. It is very dis-jointed.The illustrations (which are photos of the train models) do not help the reader to figure out what is going on in the story. The words(vocabulary) that are used seem to be somewhat unusual (perhaps - they are british terms) - which do not help. This book is not worth the money or the effort.Although my 3 year son doesn't seen to mind too much, it certainly is not his favorite book.Besides, it is frustrating to the adults that have to endure reading this to the children over and over.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kind of fragmented.
The stories are good stories,Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Retelling the doomed voyage of a ship
Knowledgeably written by Kathy-Jo Wargin and expertly illustrated by Gisjbert Van Frankenhuyzen, The Edmund Fitzgerald: The Song Of The Bell is the suspenseful picture book retelling of the doomed voyage of a ship and the tragic end for the 29 men aboard it. Told with compassion and historical accuracy, this true story concludes with the retrieval of the ship's bell from the ocean depths and the placing of it in the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, Michigan, so that the loved ones of those who died with the sinking of that great ship could have a place to go and remember their cherished memories of those who were lost. ...
