Recite a Memorable Story at night
My son who is 2 3/4 yo loves this story so much that we recite it at night.I tell parts of it, and he chimes in with what he remembers.The first few times we did it, he remembered parts I didn't remember!Very easy read.I wish there were more books like this!I do caution that it gives away the story.

I'd read it again and again
I bought this book because of the author's reputation and was not disappointed.Several story lines appear to occur simultaneously and enjoyably.I plan to use this book with small groups of students and ask each student to narrate a different story line.This is a fairly complex picture book that I'm sure all will enjoy.

great book,
Great book.My two and three year old girls are too young to get it.I read them only one of the four stories (the black and white cow part)But in a few more years I think it will be a favorite.It is four stories together into one.I love the play on different points of view as you see four different ways of seeing the effects of one event.I think it is a must have.

Life is not Black & White
This was one of the most interesting books I have ever read.When I first read this book, I did not really get the structure of this book and found myself very confused.I went back and looked at the book again and realized that this book was laid out just like our lives are.In our everyday lives everything is truly not black & white (one way or another), we have alot of gray area.This book has four stories going on at once, kind of like real life.This book would be more for an advanced reader.

Perfect for Preschool class to Enjoy
I am a Music Teacher at Montessori preschool. My class includes children ages 2 1/2 to 6 years. This story and music are perfect for the whole class. Boys especially will enjoy this story, however, girls will really like it too. The music is good quality, that is what I search for in a story-music lesson. The book is beautifully illustrated and well written. I have purchased other Scholastic Sing and Read Storybooks and they are great also.
The Cutest Song for Kid's Too Perform
At first glance, the book may be a little baby-ish for your preschooler.However, the CD that it comes with has the "I wanna Ride in a Firetruck" song that is adorable and appropriate for kids from 3 to 7.Teachers, our child's class performed this at assembly in full fireman costume and it was a huge hit!The song talks all about being a fireman...from getting dressed, to squirting that firehose, to riding home for a "hot, hot dinner" and dreaming about riding in his Firetruck. It's easy for the kids to memorize and my son still loves to sing it all the time.

A must for kids who love fire trucks!
Our almost 4-yr-old son knew most of the song within one week... and he loves to read the book together.Great illustrations.The CD is great with B-I-N-G-O, the Fire Truck Song and She'll be comin round the mountain on it.This was a lucky pick... and definately a keeper.The story details the fire fighter's day... from work, to what he eats for supper and what he dreams about when he goes to bed.I highly recommend it! ... Great for those that like fire engines
My 2 1/2 year old son loved the book from the minute I brought it home from the library. No matter which other books I take out to read, he asks for this one instead. What attracted me was the illustrations have a "Richard Scarry" feel to them. So they are three gentle looking animals that are firefighters and save a dog in a fire. It's a fairly quick read, good for those nights where everyone is a little more tired than usual, and it rhymes. I'm here buying a copy now since the library book has to be returned in another week and I know I'll get the request for it. At the end, it has the back page where they explain in more detail different things a fire fighter uses like helmet, air mask, etc.

A cute book for your fire engine lover.
My 3 year old daughter and I really enjoy this book and the others in this series.My daughter loves fire engines and this book is informative as well as fun.The story begins with the fire engines waiting at the fire house.The alarm bell sounds and the crew rushes off to fight a fire. As the story continues everything the fire crew does is explained in easy to understand terms.I really liked the expanation of how the water is pulled from the ground through the fire hydrant to fight the fire.After the resident of the house is rescued and the fire is extinguished, the crew goes back the fire house to clean up, take a break, and await the next fire.The illustrations in this book are just okay.The animals that make up the fire crew look a little strange to me but my daughter was able to identify what they were (bird, mouse, rabbit).The best part of this book is the informative rhymes that make up the story.Not too much information for a tired mom like me to read at night.My daughter and I really like the the last page of the book that lists pictures of fire engine parts and equipment and their names.Thanks to this book my daughter knows new words like water tank and pump and what they do.My daughter asks me to read this book often and it has become a favorite.If your child is really into fire engines and books about them check out the book Dot the Fire Dog.It's another one we really enjoy.

Good for 2-3 year olds

Very pleased!
This book is the perfect size for little hands and is wonderful to take along on trips because it doesn't take up too much space. My 2 year old son loves this book because it incorporates Thomas and animals,two of his favorite things.

A Thomas Book for Small Fry - a review of "Stop, Train, Stop!"
"Stop, Train, Stop" is an odd little book.For one thing, it purports to be a reader, and for another thing, Thomas not only has Annie and Clarabelle but dining, sleeping, and luggage cars!
Great for the very young book lovers!
This book uses simple language and a simple plot that is just right for very young children.I bought this book for my son when he was about sixmonthes old and he loved it even then.Now he is two and it is still hisfavorite.It has also proved to be fairly durable.I do agree withanother reviewer that it is not the most facinating book for adults toread, but...This is a great "starter" book to help your youngchild learn to love to read.

Simply written, but very popular in my house!

Husband loves it
We bought this book for my nephew's birthday but my husband loved it so much we're saving it as his Christmas present so my husband can read it first :) It's full of interesting information.It's great to read to a little one or buy it for a child that can read it on his own...maybe even a kid at heart like my husband.

Okay for the Younger Driver, But Definitely Not 'Everything'
'The Driving Book' by Karen Gravelle with illustrations by Helen Flook is a book with young drivers in mind.While the directions might be common knowledge to the driving veteran, it covers a wide variety of topics over the 161 pages of the main text.Much of this information, however, can be found in the local driver's guide, so this book was written probably because the author couldn't _not_ write it.

Childhood Memories
This is a book that is very close to my heart. As a child, I would always pick this book for my mother to read to me. I still have the book and have since introduced it to my nieces. The artwork is beautiful and the story is timeless. I highly recommend this book to anyone with children. I'll always remember the last line, "Yes indeed, oh indeed, oh indeed, Katie did".

Scuffy the Tugboat
In some cases, updating the illustrations is a good idea.With Scuffy, an update like that would definitely NOT be for the best!The illustrations, detailed and adorable, are perfect and always have been.

Scuffy the Tugboat and His Adventures Down the River has remained a favorite bedtime read for my 2-year-old and 5-year-old sons. I also remember it well from my own childhood, and my mother read it to me because she had enjoyed it when she was a little girl. The way in which the stream gradually grows into a large river and the river finally opens into the vast sea makes for an amazing journey. Along the way, we meet cows and owls and loggers, and we watch as armies of men battle springtime floods. Tibor Gergely's illustrations are detailed and distinct as always, and they evoke a time now long gone, filled with such things as streetcars and polka dot ties.

My boys (2 1/2 & 4) love Freight Train.I ordered this book and I am a little bit disappointed.

Please learn to spell CALVES properly before publishing a book!
It is $10 wasted for me because my younger son tore the cover into 3 pieces the first time he got his hands on it, and before I had a chance to look through all the pages. Yes, it was that durable! This book went to the bin a week ago when my older son started sounding out words and we didn't want him to get the wrong start. Can't someone spellcheck a book before it is published? Cute little novelty
... This little train is so cute.We have had it for about 6 years and break it out every so often.It folds up nicely.You can take it wherever you go.

the whole family loves this little train set
Our toddler loves trains, so we have many railroad-themed books and toys around the house.Choo-Choo Charlie is a favorite with every member of the family.It looks almost like a book sitting on the shelf, but in two simple unfoldings you have a complete little old-fashioned American rural town (circa 1910?) with pop-up buildings and cardboard stand-up characters and a cute wind-up engine and tender that run along the tiny track.I think that alone fascinates our son.He takes it off the shelf, "assembles " it, plays with it, puts it away, and does it all over again -- just for the delight of having a little town appear so magically.A push button outside the station cafe renders realistic train noises, and the inside flaps of the "book" feature a poem about Choo-Choo Charlie and his busy day. Makes my child happy

Very Nice!
Railway Rhymes is a large, colorful board book with "puffy" (padded) covers. What's extra special about this book is the silver edging on this book. Remember those large family Bibles that had gold edges that shone when closed? This book has the same edging, except in silver--making it truly special.

Awsome Book!!
My 21 month old daughter just loves this book!We checked it out of the library and now I have to buy it because she wants it read every time we read a story.It is full of accurate bits of information on each aircraft that are approprite for any young child.

Poor quality
The content of the book is good and my 2-year-old son enjoyed the book a lot. Unfortunately the paper is of low strength and is not up to the hard use that young users can dish out.

Absolutely Stunning Illustrations!
My two-year-old son absolutely adores this book, even though the writing is directed at children above his age.He wants to go through the alphabet over and over with me (and yes, there are airplanes for every letter, including the Xandu and the Yak), stopping at his favorites.No jet aircraft are included in this book, with the possible exception of the Osprey, which the text admits is an unusual inclusion in the book; however, both military and civilian propeller-driven airplanes are included.Read more

Really cute book for a good price!
This is a really cute book. My nephew (4 yrs. old) loves listening to me read it to him and looking at the pictures. As a teacher, having a child really interested in something is just the first step to get them to read. I would say that if you have a child who loves trains (like my nephew), then you should really look into getting this book ..... and others like it! :)

Informative and Easy to Understand

Great Tool
I am a teacher of children with Autism and use this book in order to help my students' classmates to understand that everyone makes mistakes when they are learing how to make friends. We discuss the mistakes Tobin makes and how the other engines forgive his mistakes because they know he is trying very hard to be a friend. I also read the book to my students section by section as we learn the rules for making friends. This book is wonderful for many populations and can be used in so many ways. Other books by this author are just as wonderful.

Great for all children
I am a pre-school teacher. I took this book out at the library because we were studying trains. I had no idea how much it was going to help some of my students. This book helps all kids.

I have grown to HATE this book!!!
I have read this book at least once a day for the past year.I HATE IT!My son loves it.He is 2.5 now, but dumpy was one of his first vocab words.This is not a modern book, but a slow paced family oriented view of life as it was/ought to be.Be prepared to be animated and read with lots of noises.The whole collection is full of them. Words that sing are fun for 2nd graders too.
The sing-song words are the best when read aloud. My 1st and 2nd grader love this book just as much as my preschooler does. Very fun!

fun book!
I love this book.We borrowed it from the library originally.We checked it out for 10 weeks in a row and I read it every night to my son.He loved to follow along and make all the crazy sounds that the car made.He has 2 other siblings who love it just as much.We bought it finally and I have to say this is my absolute favorite book to read to them.They get so excited making the silly noises and they even want me to find a recipe for chocolate marshmallow fudge delight. That would be a fun interactive thing to do with them.I'll have to come up with something.

One of the best childrens' picture books around
Rattletrap car is a fabulous book.The pictures are exceptionally appealing, the story is engaging and the rythm and rhyme great for involving young children.I have collected many wonderful 'classic' picture books over the years but Rattletrap Car is one of my favourites by far (and my children's favourites).We have been on many picnics where we have taken along 'chocolate marshmallow fudge delight' and 'razzleberry, dazzleberry, snazzleberry fizz'.This book is truly a must buy and you will not regret purchasing it.If like my family, you own a 'rattletrap car' too, it will be even more appealing! ... One small book, one very big lesson
You all know that in the movie, Lightning McQueen learns that life is not all about being first all the time, it's about "everyone coming together and doing the best they can," according to The King. Anyway, this special storybook, as told by Doc Hudson (isn't that cool?), tells the same story in his own words. I found it at Wal-Mart and now I have it in my own home since I have fallen in love with it, especially the black-and-white drawings of the cars. How unique is that? I sure hope parents' children learn something from this very special story of what it means to be a true winner. You know I would!
