5-0 out of 5 stars Snoozey choo choo book just right for toddlers and younger
When I first read through this book, I thought it was a loser (we received it as a gift). The text was so bland that I did not think I could stand to read it again and again to my son (now 27 months). But, he loves it.He shrieks with joy at the train coming around the mountain, he loves to call "all aboard!", he loves the intersection with the street. And now I love it, too, because it gives him so much joy and has taught him so much about trains.I have just placed an order for several other Byron Barton books and I can't wait for them to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Choo Choo Trains in Bright Colors
This is just the cutest little book for toddlers. I babysit for my and this book always seems to come over with her two little boys. They just adore looking at the choo choos as the seem to be moving across the pages. It?s also good for colors, this I know, as I?m always saying ?Point to the blue sky,? or ?Where is the red choo choo.? The illustrations and wonderful for children as well. They kind of remind me of those funny little toy people with the big round heads that I played with when I was a little girl. If you?ve got toddlers, or babysit, this is a good book to read with them.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son's favorite book
This book is great - (...)when I read it aloud, it's kind of fun for adults to read, too.Out of all the books we have, I'd say this book is one of the top 2 my son wants to have read over and over. When we're not reading it, he flips through it on his own and looks at the clearly drawn, colorful, interesting pictures, which have just enough detail without being too complicated. The depictions of different kinds of trains are fairly accurate, too. And the book is a good length - not just a few pages, like some board books, but not so long he loses interest. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Girls Like It Too
I mistakenly thought Thomas was more a character for little boys. But my 21 month old daughter absolutely loves this book, and other Thomas books also.In fact "Go Train Go" was the first book title she ever said, as she'd hand the book to us to read. The illustrations are lovely, and I think the rhyming appeals to her. She's been requesting to read Thomas books daily, more than any other character.

5-0 out of 5 stars A charming, captivating book
"I Saw an Ant on the Railroad Track" is an expertly delivered little tale about a wandering ant in search of a snack and the concerned switchman who interrupts his lunch to try to save him from an oncoming train. The poem-- enthrallingly rythmic and vibrant-- would alone capture the attention of children (and their parents), but the dynamic, colorful illustrations infuse the story with even more drama and playful energy.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great New Book
I chose this book to read aloud to my son's preschool class and they loved it! The writing is exciting and the pictures are wonderful. And if you care to look beyond the great writing/illustrations you can explore thebigger themes of empathy and the strong caring for the weak with your child. All and all a fun read for adults and kids that does not pander to either group. I hope to see alot more from this new author-it's a treat to read a children's book that is geared towards kids instead of their parents!(My mom is a 20 year veteran of the public library system in the children's department and agrees that this is a great read!) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I dig it!
This was given to my son as a gift and it is truly one of the best books we've seen that contains a plethera of construction scenes, roadblocks and comical illustrations that will have you digging for more. Help Lightning find the bones buried in each of Mr. Rally's jobs and count along as they go through a day's work. The classic art technique make this tale a truly timeless treasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mr. Rally rules!
After having to renew this book from the library every three weeks for the past several months, I finally decided to buy it!My two year old son absolutely loves it and never gets tired of us reading it to him.He is still noticing new things about the story and the illustrations that keep him interested.Mr. Rally, the backhoe driver is the main character, and he has five big digging jobs to do.We now "play Mr. Rally" by digging in our yard, and see "Rally trucks" at every construction site we pass!We even break up errands on weekends into "five big jobs to do" and count them off as we complete them.I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining even on the 100th reading
The theme is simple:a backhoe driver, accompanied by his dog, have five digging jobs to complete in one day.The story line, however, has a great combination of repetition and flavor. And the ending helps toddlers/preschoolers see the worker at home doing in a small way what he does at work (note the title!).The illustrations are just as important to the story, and offer a secondary plot line, involving the dog, not included in the text. There's plenty here to read but, more importantly, talk about with children. After at least 50 readings (maybe twice that many), I greatly appreciate how much there is in this little book. ... This book takes you line by line through drawing cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Some are relatively simple, others complex. It is not perhaps an excellent way to learn to draw, but it will help you get a feelfor drawing. It also has good explanations for the quartered wheeltechnique of circles. All in all a pretty good buy for the price-if cars, trucks, and motorcycles are what you want to draw. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Little Truck Lover

The pictures are cute and colorful.I plan to buy for all boy birthday's that come up this year. You won't be disappointed in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for little truck-lovers!
I found this book in the local toy store and gave it to my 2 year old son, who LOVES trucks. He already knew the tale of the 3 little pigs, so he was familiar with the storyline, but very intrigued that there was a "similar" tale of trucks. The text follows the traditional story, but uses 3 little rigs and a big bad wrecking ball instead. The illustrations are great too, making this book one of my son's favorites.I'm going to buy Gordon's other book, "The Ugly Truckling" now! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars buyer beware!
This book has great photos and provides a very basic overveiw of the trucking industry. I would reccommend this book to any school library. Don't be fooled, this book is not written to help with answering more technical questions that would be sort after by students taking lessons for a career in the trucking industry... For this I strongly reccomend "Bumper to Bumper"

5-0 out of 5 stars Tractor-Trailer Trucker is exciting!
A Powerful Truck Book where we get to hook up the tractor to the trailer; load the cargo & inspect the rig. Put the truck in gear - you should see how many they have - pull onto the highway & head out in the driver's seat. 3-0 out of 5 stars Good for learning

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for 7-9 years old
My 7 year old really liked this, and more generally this whole Landmark series is very good for young readers.Vocabulary and sentence structure are age appropriate.Content is good solid history. As opposed to much of the stuff for this age which is "silly" reading, this series lets them learn something while improving their reading skills.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great informative and inspirational book
This book was easy to read and helped me gain an understanding of the Wright brothers and the influence their mother had on their lives as well as their accomplishments and what drove them to invent, and invent, and invent! Not only did it provide a good review of their acccomplishments, but it also provided inspiration to my 11 year old daughter. These men had a can do attitude and never gave up. I recommend this book for anyone who wants knowlege of the Wright brothers, and inspiration to always keep trying.

4-0 out of 5 stars True Discription

5-0 out of 5 stars suitable for a wide range of ages
I bought this book for my airplane-aficionado son when he was far too young to appreciate all of the advanced details about the jets. No problem - it's a great book to go through, looking at the pictures, and reading just what each letter stands for, starting with "A is for Aerocomet". It was the best airplane book we've found for little kids. Now that he's five, I'm reading the whole thing, every word. It stands up better than most to repeated rereadings.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Jet Alphabet Book
The Jet Alphabet Book is really good because it has my favorite jet is in it; the SR-71 Blackbird. I really like that kind of jet because it can go 3 times the speed of sound and flies so high and so fast the pilot needs to wear a spacesuit and I recomend this book to children ages 4+.

Editorial Review

The brightly colored photographs and simple rhymes of the I Spy books have a perennial appeal, as does the straightforward task they put before the child: see objects clearly on the left-hand page and pick them out from the complicated jumble on the right-hand page. The degree of difficulty varies widely from book to book, and this example from the board-book series is one of the very simplest, using for its images small areas of detail from the more complex photographs in books like

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read if you child is crazy about anything with wheels
My 21-month-old son loves trains, cars, buses, tractors, diggers, motorbikes... anything he can roll along on their little wheels. I brought him to the library one day and he picked up this book and thus began our fascination with the I-Spy series. This clever book has green cars, police cars, zooming airplanes, a long choo-choo train etc hidden in places that challenges a toddler to seek out. It actually isn't all that easy! (I missed the kitty cat face for a while...) A wonderful book to read with eye-catching illustrations and catchy rhymes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for very young toddlers
This is a "I spy" book for beginners. My 2 1/2 old was mesmerized by it the first time he saw it and immediately asked me to "read it again". However, he found all but one of the objectsrelatively quickly the first time around and now it won't take him morethan one minute to go through the whole book. I encourage him to look forobjects that are not featured on the left pages to make it morechallanging.

When we first read it together during the holiday, he had me read it to him 5 times!Even now, everytime we read this book, we read it at least 2-3 times in a row if not more.I read all the reviews before purchasing this book and there is mention of a person whose son learned to crash things together from this book and that it is undesirable behavior. My comment on this is: 1) kids are going to be kids, and, 2)I really think your child's reaction to this book will be entirely dependant on their personality and character. My son is a cancer and he loves cars.My son is sensitive to the crash scene when it comes up (from the cars going too fast), he is almost upset, but when he sees the tow trucks (he loves trucks), he is happy again, and on the next page when he sees the mechanic fixing the cars with tools he loves it. Everytime this page comes up, he says, "Tool! Tool!" (of course we introduced him to tools before this book and he loves those as well). So you see, it really is all in the child's experience and personality.I think only one bad review out several (11 now I think it is) is not bad. This book was definately worth the try for us!

5-0 out of 5 stars The book that turned my child onto books
Wow - this book was SUCH a hit with my son. Before we found this at a local bookstore, my son would actually get mad when I tried to get him to sit and listen to a story. He even took books out of my hand and flung them across the room. One day, I was DETERMINED to find a book that would be a hit. When I read this one, I knew I had found a hit: all the sound-effects, stop signs (he loved those) and the CRASH! (yes, I saw that the crash was given as a reason to dislike this book, but my then-1-year-old found it great fun to smack the book on the page with the crash, eagerly anticipating it each time).Thacher Hurd was my hero, as my son soon came to love all books, and due to our hours spent enjoying books, is quite advanced in his language arts skills now that he's in school. Thanks, Mr. Hurd, for a book that so appeals to little boys.:)

When my daughter was 18 months old, she could recite this book. When her little brother was 2, he could recite this book.If either one is concerned about the speed with which either parent is negotiating a curve,we hear "Watch out!Too fast!CRASH!Disaster!"It's a real favorite at our house, even at 5 and close to 3, and we haven't had a problem with the crash issue.(When I read it, I add editorial comments, like "OH NO!" that might have helped) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Ever had an airplane sketch "trapped" inside you?
Draw 50 Airplanes has been around for a while. I'm glad that it is still in print.Wish it had been around when I was a kid, doodling airplanes. A bunch of my favorites are there: Sopwiths,P-40s, Spitfires, F-86 Sabres, P-38s.Hopefully, someday, there will be a revised edition that can capture some late arrivals to the first century of flightthat today's kids really like- the Space Shuttle, the SR-71 Blackbird, the F-117 Nighthawk. There are dozens of "how to sketch", "how to draw" titles out there. This is not one of those books. This book skips the nuances of perspective and the agony of descriptive geometry. It is not about fine art... it is not about drafting...When you sign a note to a friend, did you ever want to be able to add a quick Spitfire with a flourish? One that someone else thinks looks like a Spitfire?Or how about a sketch of the Wright Flyer? This is THAT kind of a book. This is about the serious business of producing a happy characture of the airplane that dances in your head. It will egg you on until you pick up a pencil and make an airplane appear on the page.It will help you perfect that skill. A curved line here, a pair of straight lines there. One pencil stroke at a time. And it obviously wasn't written just for kids. This book can help just about anyone create some really neat airplane doodles.Who knows what comes from that... So many rich experiences in life depend on having some early successes, the hopeful satisfaction that causes you to press onward... J. Campbell Martin ... Read more

This is a fast pace mystery. This book starts off really slow but as you get into it ,it becomes the most exciting book you have ever read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Like the Airport
This book was the perfect book to prepare my 3 year old son for our upcoming plane trip. The pictures perfectly depict what it's like at the airport, including the waiting areas. We talk about what the people are doing, where they're going, and what's going on. Also, the pictures themselves are so colorful and fun to look at that it completely captures his attention.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for toddlers
My daughter, now 23 months, has loved this book since she was 14 months old. This book has made her even more fascinated with airplanes. When she sees an airplane she always points it out and asks to go on an airplane. She asks for us to read this book daily (my husband and I have it memorized). The illustrations are wonderfully bright in color. The text is simple but written well for young children to understand the pictures. This is one book I don't mind reading everyday!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, fun, fun...
I have a two year old son, and he loves this book. The pictures are great, the descriptions are easy for him to understand, and are short enough to hold his attention. All of Byron Barton's books are great, but this one is his fave rave!!!!!!!!! ... Read more
