5-0 out of 5 stars Are We Where Yet?
Travel can be confusing (and sometimes boring) to children, but this journal can help parents deal with that!My daughter and I found this book in the Houston airport as we were browsing stores during a long layover.I bought it out of desperation (after all, it had markers and blank pages!), but it turned out to be a wonderful investment. It is a very kid-oriented travel journal, with questions, hints, and prompts to guide the young journalist through recording their trip(s).It gives you and your child something to do together while flying or at night in the hotel, and as an extra bonus, it's a great show-and-tell item when your child returns to school.I've saved the journal for my daughter's trunk, so that years from now she can read her own thoughts about Oregon and Arizona! We highly recommend this!!(One aside:smart six and seven year olds will do just fine with this journal if you work with them.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't leave home without it!
This travel journal is an excellent tool to capture vacation memories and relive them for a lifetime. The journal boasts brightly colored "topic" pages along with markers and stickers which allows the child's creativity to shine through in words and/or artwork. We've used this travel journal for three vacations and wouldn't leave home without it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes 15-hour ride fun
We have used this book for three long car trips--800 miles each way.It has provided us with a wonderful journal to look back on in later years. In addition, the games, activities, and songs in the book help make a longcar ride fun.I just bought four more to give as gifts. This book iswonderful for anyone, not just kids. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Mailing May
This is a very cute book and it has a good story line. I liked the pictures because they look like they were really taken in 1914. These pictures are also bright and colorful and ful of emotion. May is also a very spunky little girl, so that makes it even more fun. And i especially like how they worded it. This story is about a girl named May who really wants to see her grandmother who lives 1000 miles away. But her father and mother can't afford it.But they see how dissapointed ahe is. So they decided to mail her. This adventure is a great book for all boys and girls. Over all i liked it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mailing May
I really liked the book Mailing because it was an interesting, funny, and cute little story. It was about a five year old girl who didn't have $1.55 for a ticket to go visit her grandma. SO instead they mailes her as a baby chick through the US Postal Service. Instead it only cost her $0.53 than the $1.55 it would cost to buy a ticket. The pictures in this book were fantastic, they showed al ot of action. THis was a true story.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mailing May - clever, creative, great pictures.
I love Ted Rand's pictures.I'm trying to make a collection of books with his art works, but there are many.Mailing May is one I hadn't read and was delighted.I saw Ted Rand at work during one of the workshops for Children's Writers of the Northwest. He's pleasant as well as talented.I would recommend this book to those who love little children's stories with substance as well as art work. ... We bought this as a gift for our soon-to-be first grader. We have been traveling a lot this summer and the fandex is a fun, easy way for our daughter to look at the states we have been through.Concise and easily manipulable for little people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great deal
The 50 States Fandex cards were in excellent condition and arrived quickly.I have a 4 year old who is learning so much from them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Educationally Stimulating
As a curriculum developer, I am constantly on the lookout for educational products that will enhance textbook study. I must say that the Fandex FamilyField Guide 50 States far exceeded my expectations! Having enjoyed history and geography in school, I was surprised by how much I learned while reviewing this guide. It is full of interesting facts and tidbits about each state while also presenting important information that students should know.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Future Treasure
Our three children whose ages range from 8 to 13 have filled four books each. The Trip Diary makes a great reference tool at home before the trip even begins with pages entitled "What to take along" and "Whom to send postcards to."Once this type of information is filled out it can be used over again to prepare for future trips. The fun starts when the book accompanies the child in down time such as on a long plane, train or car ride. With pencil and crayons in tow it will keep a young one occupied. The book has basic and brief prompts which is helpful compared to an ordinary lined journal, yet the amount of detail put into it depends entirely upon the child. We have even combined a few days into one or two pages. There is a perfect drawing area so the child can express what they have seen through means of a little art work. Our oldest finds it fun to download pictures from a digital camera and affix some of her own photography to the appropriate pages. There is room for a caption beneath each picture as well. Our family has encouraged use of the Kid's Trip Diary from camping trips to extended over-seas vacations. With a little help the diary can be alot of fun and most of all become a true treasure. Appreciation for their diaries will mature as the children themselves do.Afterall, who does not like to look back on vacations well spent? The Kid's Trip Diary is key to retaining such memories in the eyes of the children.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great way for kids to record their experiences
This book is a good way for kids to keep up with their writing skills over the summer, and record a description of their summer adventure to look back on years to come. The book is compact enough to travel with, and has good prompts to help kid's think about things to write. ... Read more

I picked this book up for a little bit of light reading when I visited the Grand Canyon last week.It is a "teen" reader, but I found it really enjoyable. It's an easy read like a "Harry Potter" novel. It's a definite page turner.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent choice for cartoon fans and travelers alike
Before Mo Willems became a children's book author, he packed sketchbook and set out to explore the world. At the end of each day he drew a cartoon of a single event which stuck in his mind - and his sketch diary YOU CAN NEVER FIND A RICKSHAW WHEN IT MONSOONS: THE WORLD ON ONE CARTOON A DAY is the result. Each page holds a full-page black and white panel blending humor with observation. An excellent choice for cartoon fans and travelers alike, a foreword by Dave Barry adds to the package.
5-0 out of 5 stars the true essence of travel
This book is absolutely delightful. When the author was just out of school, he took a trip around the world, and each day he drew the one thing that stuck out in his mind.Fifteen years later, he added commentary and occasionally context to each cartoon, and publishes the whole darn thing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Vicarous travel at its best
Mo's newest book is a "page-turner" for the armchair traveler with a sense of humor. Each page has a great cartoon of a unique time and place.I especially enjoyed Mo's impressions of places I have been; his graphics refreshed and enhanced my own memories. This is a great gift idea for the college graduate (unless, of course, you want them to go get a job instead of seeking adventure first!) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Take A Trip to Historic Boston
JOURNEY AROUND BOSTON is another title in the series created by author, artist and one time teacher Martha Zschock. Zschock was a third grade teacher at the time she wrote the book. As a teacher she has the respects both the natural curiosity and intelligence of children. A mallard, a duck often associated with the city thanks to Robert McCloskey's immortal MAKE WAY FOR DUCKLINGS, leads visitors on a tour of Boston and the vicinity. Her book includes the familiar tourist attractions as well as lesser known and perhaps even ignored places in Boston. It serves as a wonderful introduction to Boston and its illustrious history.4-0 out of 5 stars fun guide for middle school visitors or residents
It seems a bit strange to use an alphabet book format for middle schoolers, but the idea is well-executed in this nicely illustrated guide to Boston. The book begins with an undetailed map of the Boston vicinity, continues with a paragraph of introduction, and then moves on to the alphabet. Each letter gets a full page and has an alliterative title with a few explanatory sentences and some related factoids. For example, "M" is entitled "Minutemen made ready at a moment's notice"; text describes the events in Lexington and Concord on April 18, 1775; watercolor pictures show the Minuteman statue in Lexington and the Old North Bridge in Concord; factoids tell us that British soldiers were called "regulars" and that the midnight riders (Paul Revere, William Dawes and Samuel Prescott) called out "The regulars are out! The regulars are out!" as they rode through the night. End pages depict an alphabet of objects other than those seen in the book, such as Magnolia for "M".Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Saved us at the end of a long road trip!
I pulled this game out at the end of a long road trip when the kids were unmanageable. They immediately started playing, entertaining my 4 and 12 year-old equally. My husband asked "why didn't we pull this out sooner?!?"It was so much fun to see people responding to my daughter waving and doing peace signs. We found people responded much better to her than my 12-year old boy :-)

When I bought this I was thinking what a great idea.We used to print out scavenger hunts for road trips as a kid, so I thought this would be great. As I find myself taking my kids on long road trips, I am always on the look out for fun things to do.Well I got this and we played it, my kids are 4 and 6, and they had a blast...when they could find things. The problem is most of the pictures are of things you'd find in town.We go on long multi-state/cross country trips so I was hoping it would be more for the interstate drives.I eventually just sorted out about half the deck of the street signs and buildings, and now it worked well for us.This game is best done if you are driving around doing errands all day and want to keep your kids occupied. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Washington, D.C. Guidebook for Kids
Very good, both entertaining and informative.Really a good thing for first-time children visitors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great -- because kids don't like Fodors
I don't think there's any better place for kids to visit than DC. But, because it's not Disney World, not all the information is geared towards them. That's why this book is so great. It's perfect for my nephews (8 and 10) who, although quite intelligent, are not ready for Fodors quite yet. Plus, it has a lot of interesting stuff in it that I didn't know myself and I live in the area. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect travel journal for young kids
My daughter is delighted with this journal. It prompts a child to write about things they may not have thought about. It contains a lot of the same information that adult travel journals contain (e.g. record of expenses), but in a kid-friendly format with illustrations. I think it will be a great thing for keeping my daughter busy on the plane ride. ... Read more
