4-0 out of 5 stars Blackout by Keith R.A. DeCandido
Blackout by Keith R.A. DeCandido is a well written and entertaining story. It is a "Spike" story, and you won't find any of the Scoobies or Buffy in this tale.It takes place in 1977 New York, and fills out the story of the last few days in the life of Nikki, the Vampire Slayer. The story alternates between Nikki's tale and Spike's, who has come to New York to bag himself his second slayer.Standing between Spike and his final confrontation with Nikki is a local Vampire mob boss, who wants Spike either recruited into his organization or dusted. When Dru unexpectedly arrives in NY, things really heat up.

Finally, I was happy with a Buffy novel. I actually read this book in one day, I couldn't put it down.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful but Abridged!
Though this activity book is just wonderful and full of great crafting and learning acitivities, it is an abridged version of the book we loved when we were kids. The book, organized around the 12 number-it-yourself calendar pages, includes seasonal connect the dots, a paper village to color and build, paperdolls, paper airplanes to fold, greeting cards, Valentines, and bookmarks. The Christmas activities are missing altogether.

5-0 out of 5 stars History repeats itself!
Twenty-eight years ago I recieved this book for Christmas. On a whim I checked to see if it was still available and I was SO happy to find out it is!My daughter loves it as much as I did when I was a child!

1-0 out of 5 stars What, did her publisher only give her a week to write this?
I finished reading this book a while back, but I just now got around to posting my review.I absolutely hated this book.Though it did try to tie in with the information provided in Angel season 5 (which takes place at the same time as this novel), it did not do a very good job at it.Some of the information was incorrect or flat out not plausible. Some of it also did not fit in with the timeline on Angel; such as the events surrounding Andrew's visit to Wolfram & Hart.Another thing is that the writer, Nancy Holder, didn't write the characters very well. The people were either all out of character or the far, extreme stereotype of that character. This was reflected not only in their behavior and mannerisms, but also in the decisions that were made. The odd behavior was especially true for Xander, Faith and Robin.Robin Wood wasn't like himself at all.He is a very professional, well spoken man, but the author wrote him like a stereotypical black thug.In regards to the decision making, where they go after leaving California is not where I think Joss Whedon (the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer) would have sent them.In the book, a surviving watcher had just begun to rebuild the Watchers Council from scratch. He was just as stuffy and arrogant as the original Watchers Council leaders had been.In addition to being a NEW council, they obviously did not have the connections or power that the old council had (which wasn't that great even at their best). The characters also put too much trust into The Immortal - a man who's history has been clouded by neither evil nor good acts (if that makes any sense at all).
1-0 out of 5 stars A Horrible Blot On The Sparkling Buffyverse
When I heard that a book was being released detailing what happened in the Buffyverse after the Sunnydale Hellmouth's closing, I was very excited. The only hints as to what happened to Buffy and gang were a few vague hints during season five of 'Angel'.I figured it would be nice to know what happened to the crew.I wish I hadn't found out.
5-0 out of 5 stars THANK YOU NANCY HOLDER!
I am no literary critic. To be honest I hate reading. I prefer to watch TV like oh let's see....."Buffy The Vampire Slayer," or maybe "Angel?" So when I found out there was a book that picked up right where the last episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" ended I was completely excited, and let me just say my excitement was totally justified.

5-0 out of 5 stars A reminder to kids (and parents) how much fun Halloween is
"Franklin's Halloween" is a book that emphasizes to young kids how much fun Halloween can be.Franklin and his friends are all looking forward to the big Halloween party and trying to come up with the best costume. What Franklin comes up with is the "Franklinstein" monster and once thing you should pay attention to are the neat little details in his costume: the drawn on stitches on his wrists, the fake forehead, and the corks for bolts (in other words, this looks like an actual costume you can make for your kid). There are actually several other costume possibilities you might pick up from this book, so kudos to Brenda Clark for drawing such fanciful but realistic costumes, as well as for providing so much detail in all of her paintings. The strength of Paulette Bourgeois story is that her characters are all having such fun that when she adds a message to her story it seems the most natural point in the world to make.Franklin and his friends are just the sort of party animals you want to spend the night with on Halloween.

4-0 out of 5 stars Franklin Shows That Halloween Is Fun, Not Scary
Franklin is a little cutie and he has lots of nice friends. They are all excited that Halloween is coming and they are making big plans. The bright colored, detailed illustrations of the quaint woodland world where they live are brimming with wholesome, good-natured fun. This is a good book for introducing Halloween to little ones so that they will not be unnerved by mysterious ghouls who'll come knocking on their doors on Halloween. It shows Franklin and friends getting their costumes ready for a party, painting, cutting and pasting decorations, bobbing for apples, playing a pumpkin toss game, and trick-or-treating in their neighborhood. They're a little spooked when they visit a make-believe haunted house but it turns out to be fun and they solve a mystery! They pool some of their goodies to deliver to their friend who is ill and can't go out trick-or-treating.It also shows little Franklin getting carried home in the arms of Daddy with Mommy walking along beside. It's heart-warming and has enough action to hold a little one's attention so they can become familiar with common Halloween disguises. It's easy to see from the pictures that Franklin is Franklinstein, Fox is clearly the mummy, Skunk is Dracula, and Goose is a wolf. Our friends dress up but we know it's still them underneath the make-up and masks.Franklin is a lot of fun at Halloween.Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Franklinstein
My sons wants to be Franklistein for Halloween. In the book all of Franklin friends'costumes are a secret, but Bear's. They think Bear is the ghost, but it's Mr. Owl. They find out that Bear is home sick and take some of their candy to them. It teaches sharing and caring for others. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book for preschool children

5-0 out of 5 stars Watt a Positively Charged Exploration!
It is more than obvious that Joanna Cole (author) and Bruce Degen (illustrator) had the time of their lives bringing this book to fruition.Penned in 1997, "The Magic School Bus and the Electric Field Trip" is packaged to the bursting point with anything and everything that has to do with electricity. There's so much going on here that a simple one-sided scorecard just won't suffice upon delving into Ms. Frizzle's latest adventure. It is Cole and Degen's most action-packed and tightly-woven collaboration yet.One senses from just taking in the first few pages that author and illustrator poured every fiber of their being into the Friz's ninth science-related field trip for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great science book for children
An unusual science teacher takes her students from the classroom into the ocean - physically. The school bus she drives plunges right into the water and transforms, as needed, from bus into submarine, submersible, and surfboard so that her class can reach and explore every part of the ocean. The expedition starts at the continental shelf and moves through continental slope, ocean floor, deep-sea vents and a fringing coral reef. On their way, they children find themselves magically equipped with diving suits and they can now study plants, ocean water, animals and their habitats.
5-0 out of 5 stars 20,000 Leaks Under the Sea
At this point, Ms. Frizzle and her class have explored things like the waterworks, the many layers of the earth, the human body, and even outer space. So it's only natural that Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen would decide to lead their readers on an under-sea adventure."The Magic School Bus: On the Ocean Floor" is another top-notch collaboration by two people who show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars So lovely
We just purchased this book for our six week old son and we absolutely love it. The illustrations are so charming and I'm sure it's going to be a favorite for him in these early years as it's not a complex story. I'm so glad it isn't out of print.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous and attention-grabbing
This is the first book my son would bring to me for repeated readings (starting at about 9 months). The illustrations are stunning, and the vocabulary is perfect for infants/toddlers.I give this book to everyone with children!

5-0 out of 5 stars A family favorite!
This was my favorite book as a child - my parents still know most of it by heart from reading it so many times! Now, my two year old son loves it too. We had to buy a new copy because my was so tattered and old. He just loved the colors and the story. He especially loves that the bunny goes to sleep at the end with a blankie - my son loves his blankie. This book is a must have for little ones! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars In it's 3rd generation of use !
I was given this book on my 6th birthday (1952) and am still reading it EVERY year. It has been rebound and the front page, that opens into a large pop-up Santa emerging from a chimney, is scotch-taped and fragile from use(I wonder if the new book has this?). The Animals Merry Christmas is lovingly displayed each year amidst my Christmas decor. It has been read much, over many years,to my son and his children and I will be purchasing one this year for my grandniece. It is highly recommend for all children AND the young-at-heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Christmas Classic
I bought this book for my 5-year-old daughter's November birthday based on the reviews posted here. We have been enjoying the stories night after night since then. This is a treasury of stories about different animals celebrating Christmas in very simple and joyous ways. Each tale is charming yet teaches something valuable about giving. The Richard Scarry illustrations are delightful as well.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Exactly Faithful
During Season Three of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, viewers were introduced to Faith, a bold Slayer who loved breaking the rules and testing the limits. A fan favorite, she appeared on the spin-off series Angel on multiple occasions, then came back to BtVS during its final season.
5-0 out of 5 stars Feed Your Head
The book's title is a reference to the 1971 classic, "Go Ask Alice," a cautionary tale about drug use which took its name from the 1967 Jefferson Airplane hit, "White Rabbit" about a girl who ends up overdosing. Somehow the author perfectly captures the structure of the original book while maintaining Faith's voice magnificently. And this is no cautionary tale. While a simple analysis of Faith might reduce her to a self-destructive youth, this book gets underneath the dualism (one pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small) within her...We are drawn to danger, even when it hurts us. It is why we love Faith. She is a reflection of the conflicting forces within each of us. This and other themes are woven into a brilliantly conceived plot. If you are a Buffy fan, READ THIS BOOK!

3-0 out of 5 stars Faith's Background
I have been a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan since the original bad movie was released.

1-0 out of 5 stars Racist?
Honestly, what kind of message is this for young minds?
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Major chaos in the lives with the Titans
I've collected and read every story with the Teen Titans, New Titans, Team Titans, ect. but this story line is most felt by all Titans fans. The emotions felt by the characters is also felt by the readers...the art work is superb in itself. Plenty of times the world thought that the Titans were a knockoff of the X-men but they have proven time and time again that they are in a league of their own. Especially with this storyline with Trigon, a creature of almost limitless power, whos daughter is a member of a team who opposes him.5-0 out of 5 stars Terriffic!!!
Now, i read this collection some years ago, perhaps as many as four years ago, but every single time i re-read it, it is no less effective in its original goal, which was no doubt to bring a fresh, slightly skewed perspective to comic storytelling. More often than not, by mainstream America, comic books are seen as mere children's entertainment, as they've been viewed since their strange conception. This read was one of the very first(alongside Mr. Warren Ellis's works, Mr. Clarmont's tales, and Mr. Moore's yarns)character driven comic tales i'd ever read in which the character's motives and actions actually mattered. You could see the emotion in the drawings. You could feel every sharp taunt, every shocking revelation, every crass word, every desperate betrayel, and what's more, you knew how the characters felt upon the terrible devestation visited upon New York, and more to the point, their team. Their family. Nightwing. Evolution. Starfire. Emotion in it's most pure, achingly honest form. Cyborg. Hope, strength and insecurity unified. Kid Flash. Extremely human. Changeling. A Normal eye into the terror of the situation. Wonder Girl. Morality and Honesty personified.Team Heart. Raven. Terrifying. You felt the hopelessness of the team's situation, you actually felt their love for each other. Outside of X-men and The Avengers, you don't feel that kind of thing anymore. Or rarely, if so, thanks to Mr. Morrisson, Mr. Johns, Mr. Winnick, among others, though few they be. More than any other comic, which, because books like this one, are now being viewed as a slightly more adult format of mature, meaningful storytelling, this book, The New Teen Titans, allowed me to see just how real these paper and ink characters could be. To this day, i compare every other work i read, as far as character driven tales and interesting interaction, to this book, in it's heyday. Wolfman & Perez, what can i say? They sit upon the nigh unattainably high crest of storytelling greatness alongside Claremont & Byrne, Moore & Curtis, Moore & Veldt, Millar & Hitch, Ellis & Hitch...this is a read that i reccommend to anyone willing to see comics as they truly are in the 21st century....extremely intelligent, innovative, very creative and thoughtprovoking.5-0 out of 5 stars A comic classic!
I just picked up my copy of this trade and reread it as I have countless times since the story's original run in the summer of 1984 prior to starting high school. As always, I was THOROUGHLY entertained!George Perez is the MASTER artist and it shows throughout the story. The high points of his art are the first two parts inked by himself and the staggering amount of detail he always throws in.Look at the "spires" twisting through the city and you'll know what I mean.I just wish he could've inked his pencils through the entire story although Romeo Tanghal backs him up quite well in parts 3 thru 5.Marv Wolfman expertly handles the execution of the subplot he and George had set up since the very beginning in 1980...Raven walking her father's road.I don't find it derivative of X-Men's Phoenix as implied by others since this subplot was around since the first story arc in '80.The subplot of the Titans each facing their fears and evil selves is effectively chilling.Just check this book out along with The Judas Contract. You don't find many stories like these in comics OR in most novels these days.Enjoy! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Franklin's Thanksgiving
This Book is one of my favorites. Franklin starts off in the beginning really upset because His grandparents couldn't make it for thanksgiving this year. It had always been a tradition for the family to get together and celebrate the holiday. So to make e Franklin happy his parents went out and invited other people in the town to come to dinner for a surprise. Not knowing Franklin invited his own people. So when thanksgiving morning came tons of people were at the house. And they all had a great thanksgiving. I would recommend this book to children 4-10. It was really cute and had great detailed pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thankful for Franklin
Thanksgiving often gets covered up with the rush for Christmas and we were looking for something to help us properly recognize this family holiday. Sharon Jennings gives us a warm story of Franklin's family that fits the bill.My 4 year old loves Franklin and this story is helping bridge the time between Halloween and Thanksgiving by giving us a family story worth sharing.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Frizzie
Great book in the world of Magic School Bus.We loved it.I loved the facts about China written all over the book.Read over & over in our house!

4-0 out of 5 stars full of info
Miss Frizzle and her class from The Magic School Bus are back. This time instead of science adventure the kids are off to learn about history. Miss Frizzle and her students travel back in time 100 years. They arrive at a farmers village in China. Here they learn lots of things like how to eat with chop sticks and how to grow crops like rice and silk.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to ancient China
I bought this book for my first-grade son, who is a huge Magic School Bus fan, but usually not all that interested in social studies. He found this book very interesting, and we have re-read it many times.
