2-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointing
I'm trying to be open-minded as I write this review, but I must admit I was disappointed for the most part with "Boys that Bite" by Mari Mancusi. Though somewhat cliché, the storyline was decent and at some points entertaining.
5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully original blend of vampire/love/adventure drama which teens will find refreshingly different
Uh oh - the protagonist in Boys That Bite is turning into a vampire - and her mother is going to be so upset to find out! Not only because her mother isn't immortal herself, but because a vampire hottie has gone for her instead of her dark side loving twin. Add in a vampire slaying, a search for a holy grail, and more and you have a wonderfully original blend of vampire/love/adventure drama which teens will find refreshingly different.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fast, fun, and fabulous!
Sunshine (Sunny) McDonald will grab you from the start of this hilarious book. She's the voice of teens today, but with a twist. She's becoming a vampire because of a bite of mistaken identity.Just her luck to have an identical twin who really wants to be a vampire, but isn't at the right place, at the right time.A must-read for all the "fang fans." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great ABC's and twin book!
I got this for my twin daycare girls. They loved it. I loved that it had both the Capital and lowercase letter. Their mom loved that it a frame in the back for their picture. T Is for Twins: An ABC Book is a great way to celebrate being a twin for young kids.

4-0 out of 5 stars F is for Fun
This kids book has great real-life pictures of twins along with fun alliterative ABC words with each one.Would be great for exploring the pictures with toddler twins or learning to read with older kiddos. The pictures aren't quite colorful enough to catch an infant's attention yet.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice to see all sorts of twins
This book is nice because it has pictures of all sorts of twins. All races, all combinations, all different ages (10 and younger I'd say).

4-0 out of 5 stars turist trap
This is a really good book.It was pretty funny because they do some weird stuff.Plus there are some awkward characters. This book can get pretty boring, but there is a huge twist in the book. I can relate to the characters and the stuff they do.
5-0 out of 5 stars Edgar and Ellen Tourist Trap
Has anything weird ever happened to you? Well, in Nod's Limbs weird things happen all the time because of the twins named Edgar and Ellen. The title of this book is Edgar and Ellen Tourist Trap, the genre is fiction and the author is Charles Ogden.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great sense of surreal
I first became interested in Edgar and Ellen after clicking a link to their site- I had first heard of them only by the minicartoons that I saw on TV.Anyway, this was the first E&E book I read because I couldn't find Rare Beasts at the store.Well, let me say first of all, if you are a down to earth, no-nonsense, everything must be real type preson, you might find these stories to be a bit childish. But, if you can hack through the disgusting mental shell that people force so carelessly over the minds of people, you can truly enjoy this story.I found myself cheering for the anti-heros even as they pranked their own town, and despising anyone who got in their way.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book
This book is a example of superb writing. With witty charcters and a twisting plot line this book will keep you at the edge of your seat for hours on end. This book is a great example of one that you can never put down. I would totaly recomend this book to anyone who loves to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Slapstick and Wry
Sea journeys and pirates are the "it" topics of children's literature this year, but Shearer manages to avoid pitfalls by placing his narrative in the hands of a boy named Eric, accompanied by his perpetually dirty twin brother Clive. The two brothers stowaway on a cruise liner during the summer holidays in order to be closer to their father, who serves as a ship steward.Laying low is not an option for Eric and Clive, and the story really starts to hum when they become more devious in their attempts to elude exposure. The pirate episode occurs at the end of the book, but is a satisfying tie-up of threads, rather than the core of the plot.

Editorial Review

We've all done it. In the frigid depths of winter we've wished we could be magically transported to someplace warm and sunny. But most people don't have genius parents who just happen to be working on a scientific experiment with time travel at the moment of our wish. Sandy and Dennys Murry, the "normal" boys in a family of geniuses, suddenly find themselves trudging through a blazing-hot desert, seeking a far-off oasis for shade.Their desperate wandering brings them face-to-face with history--biblical history. Soon they're feeling right at home with Noah and his family. Even so, the urgent question is, how will Sandy and Dennys get back to their own place and time before the floods--the many waters--come? As they begin to cross the invisible border into adulthood, the twins must confront their ability to resist temptation and embrace integrity. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars What HAPPENED to L'Engle after the first 3 books?
I am in a unique position to provide two firsthand views of this book, unfortunately both negative criticism. One from my 5th-grade self, one from me now, 26 years old. I was in, oh, second grade or so when I read 'A Wrinkle in Time'. Suffice it to say, I was enthused, and followed it up with 'A Wind in the Door' and 'A Swiftly Tilting Planet'. But I detested 'Many Waters'. I just couldn't stand it. It bored me for some reason. That's really all I can say about my earlier self's opinion of the book. It just went on and on without anything interesting happening and reading it was a chore, not a pleasure. But I was not a big reader back then. Most of the books I read at that age I read because I had to read something for a book report, and I would pester my mom to read the real nuisance books to me that I really couldn't stand, which was most of them. She sure had high tolerance. It's only in the last few years I've been able to read novels for enjoyment, not so much because I'm so much more mature now, but because I'm able to polish them off in a day or two now. So I came across it again and decided to read it because I figured before I just wasn't ready for it. Well, more mature or not, I can provide a more thoughtful critique, if a not much more positive one. Indeed, it is profoundly lacking in action, I agree with my 5th grade self, though not enough to get me to procrastinate weeks to finish it off and then beg someone to read it to me. But now I have other problems with it too.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best book in the series
I agree with the other reviewers who said that this book is not like the rest.I disagree when they say that the rest were the good ones and this is the bad one.I far preferred this book to the others in the series. It is nearly a straight up fantasy book, with a relieving lack of L'Engle's new age throw-ins which abound in the rest of the series.
3-0 out of 5 stars Lit Circle Book w Nice Discussions
Our Lit/Comp 9 teacher gave Many Waters to us as a choice for literature circles. This book was perfect for discussions and our group had a great time wondering about the plot.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Okey-Dokey Okefenokee Story
Having finished reading almost all of Jean Craighead George's 90-some books, I have lots to compare this book to.For reading enjoyment and strength of story, George's book are of uneven quality. However, when it comes to teaching about science, the outdoors, plant and animal life, and ecology, her books can't be beat.
5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing book
Tree Castle Island was an amazing book! Being a ten year old high school reader has let me read tons of books. A wounderful book about an adventure, nature, and a mystery that will make every child think about their past. The only thing better than this book will have to be a sequel.
3-0 out of 5 stars Adventure Marred by Outdated Views of Adoption
I enjoyed reading this book to my 10 year-old son until I read ahead to the ending. I was shocked to see how the author, Craighead George, presented adoption. My son and daughter are both adopted in open adoptions, but reading about adoption in Tree Castle Island is like going back to the 1960s. Adoption is presented as a shameful secret. There is a lot of emphasis on how the adopted kids look nothing like the adoptive parents, how they only share real and important things with their "real" siblings and "real" parents--not the adoptive parents. Frankly, I won't be finishing this book with my kid because it's almost harmful in the way it addresses adoption. If you have adopted kids, you may want to skip this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Ballad of the Civil War
I must say that I am well read. I have read many books by many great authors--Cooper, both Brontes, Austen--and yet I find myself coming back to this ballad.I read this when I was in fifth grade, and liked it, but didn't care for it overmuch.Previously this year I found myself faced with a challenge. My english teacher wanted each class member to read something they liked, a poem, a song, part of a book, etc. to the class.I couldn'tthink of anything.I was searching through my mind trying to think of what I could read, then I thought back to my fifth grade teacher, and remembered this ballad.I read it to my class, and nearly everyone had misty eyes. This is the most touching poem I have yet to see. Each time I read it I get chills down my back. Background information on the Civil War is a good idea.I hope in time you readers who were "board, bord" or bored with this book will be able to realize how touching this really is.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Ballad of the Civil War
The Balladof the Civil War is one ofthe best books I've read. Jack & Tom are twins fighting in a battel. Read this book to find out what happens to the twins when they enlist in the war. Icould not put itdown. It is not scary. tis a short read.

While my daughter was interested in Mary Kate and Ashley, she found their other books a little too hard for a second grader. Then, we found this series. It is perfect for her. With colorful pictures and an up-to-date story line, it is great for girls her age. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good and sad
This book is DAMN good. I hope a third one comes out. It's different. At the end my heart cried out cause it was so sad. I feel sorry for the twins. Very EXCELLENT book. One of RL Stine's best!

2-0 out of 5 stars Kids will relate, but . . .
Loose Tooth is a cute little story about twin bats who do everything together. Fang loses a tooth and Flapper finds himself feeling jealous that he isn't having the same experience.3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
There are twin bats whose names are Fangs and Flapper. These twins do everything together, including reading, playing sports, and flying into the night. One day during reading class Fangs discovered he had a loose tooth. He showed it off to all his friends and classmates.Flipper wished he had a loose tooth too.Fangs just couldn't wait for his tooth to fall out. That night at dinner Fangs bit down on a piece of bread and out fell his tooth.Fangs anticipated the tooth fairy's visit.Flapper was so jealous because he didn't have a loose tooth.Have you ever been so jealous that you would do anything to make the other person miserable? Well thats how Fang felt and he did something terrible to Fangs. If you've ever felt this way I'm sure you can relate to this book. I would recommend this book because I know everyone has had an experience like this at some point or another so its easy to understand. ~ Stephanie Hartwig
