3-0 out of 5 stars Very Sweet But Difficult to Act out
I love the illustrations, I love the text, I just love this book. But. But I want to kiss my daughter in all of those sweet places while I am reading her the book and I can't because I have to hold the book in one hand and my daughter in the other and become a contortionist to kiss her bellybutton. And I wouldn't be able to do all of the kissing AND reading while my daughter is on the changing table. I guess I'll have to wait until she's in a big-girl bed. So it's not the author's fault, it's just that the book is better for, say, 18 months and up.

Book arrived with pop up pages stuck together. When my toddler tried to look under the pop up the page ripped because they were stuck together.Story is cute and has helped my son to stop biting and kiss instead.

Editorial Review

"Here is the book that Romeo would have given Juliet; Charlie Brown would have given Snoopy; and you can give to some very special friend" proclaims the back cover of this small, whimsical book. Written in 1965 by Sandol Stoddard Warburg, it still makes the perfect present for your best friend. Not just any run-of-the-mill best friend, though. This book is for the kind of friend who yells for you when you get lost in Grand Central Station or pretends to save you when you pretend to be drowning. Or, as Warburg puts it, "You know how to be silly / That's why I like you / Boy are you ever silly / I never met anybody sillier than me / till I met you." Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I happened upon this little red book while searching for a birthday present for my little cousin.I read it through, and teared up because it so aptly describe how I feel about my husband.I bought it and gave it to him...I think this is book is wonderful for expressing how you feel about someone you really really love/like.

2-0 out of 5 stars Strange Little Book
This book definitely gives some unique and nice reasons for liking someone. I liked most of them. However, for some of them the author is so "real" about why people like other people that he lists not necessarily healthy reasons. For example, one page says that they like the other person because if they get mad at them, they also get mad back...when someone is nice to you when you're mad at them it makes you want to punch them in the nose. True? Sometimes. But not how I want to teach my child to be. Another example is they like the other person because when they say something funny the other person laughs. Does that mean when someone doesn't laugh you shouldn't like them?
5-0 out of 5 stars A great, funny look at friendship for mature kids and childish adults
I'm sure this is supposed to be a children's book, and kids will definitely enjoy it.But the fact of the matter is that "I Like You" is the warmest love note you could possibly give your spouse or best friend. It contains the reasons we like our friends -- the games we play, the fun we share, etc. -- and also the things that are so true about friendships that are often overlooked, like paying attention when the other person is throwing up ("you don't just pretend to be looking at the birdies") and engaging in a decent fight when the other person's mad ("it's awful when the other person isn't.They're just so nice and oo-hoo you could just about punch them in the nose.")Give this book to someone you love from age 4 to 144! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book was great for helping plan my son's kindergarten valentine party. The snack ideas were super and pretty easy to assemble. The highlight of the book is the valentine bingo game where everyone wins at the same time. The children just loved the game as they all shouted "bingo" at the same time.We also did the ice cube game and the cupid game. Both were also big hits with the children!I would highly recommend this book for any class parent needing some creative ideas for kids from 5+.

5-0 out of 5 stars Valentine's Daywill never be the same.
With all the crafts, snacks, and games, you will have everyone entertained for years to come. This book is great for classrooms, parents, day cares, work, & more. Perfect paired with Valentine Boxes.

5-0 out of 5 stars the spirit to be a favorite
Lilly has one chocolate heart left from Valentine's Day, and it's bedtime, so where is the perfect, safe place to put her chocolate heart until tomorrow? This little bedtime dilemma has Lilly searching around her room for just the right place. Does she find it? 5-0 out of 5 stars I'm glad this is a hefty hardcover or it'd be worn out!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites
I think this book is great because Junie B Jones is a great character. She is really funny and makes a lot of mistakes. This book is mostly about Valentine's Day, or as Junie B Jones would say "Valentime's Day." Junie B Jones learns that sometimes when someone is mean to you, it might mean that they really like you but don't want other people to know. I really like the ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mushy Gushy Fun
My kids 5 and 4 love Junie B. and her antics. This book is cute, and deals with valentines day in Kindergarten, and those young day crushes.Fun to read for kids and not too bad for the parents too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why all the criticism?
Wow!I had no idea that Junie B. was so controversial. Our whole family loves the Junie B. Jones books. In less than a year, we have read every single one, both kindergarten and first grade, and are eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series. The Mushy Gushy Valentime was our introduction to Junie B., and we were hooked right away.My husband read it out loud to our 5-year-old, and he quickly decided that Barbara Park had written these books specifically to be enjoyable for adults to read out loud to kids. There were a few times when he couldn't read because he was laughing so hard.As a former teacher, I could relate with Mrs. as she rolled her eyes up to the ceiling or laid her head down on her desk as a result of the antics of her class.I have even taught a few Junie B.'s myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Valentine Story Ever
This book has such a wonderful message. Everytime I read it to my first graders I cry. It is what love is supposed to be about! Thank you Eileen Spinelli for this fantastic story.

I am 41 years old & just heard this story Sunday in church.I have told everyone I know about it & will never forget it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Mr. Hatch will win your heart!
Poor Mr. Hatch...a lonesome soul. Until one day he receives a package with a note saying "Somebody loves you". His whole life changes! I love that the illustrations, starting out rather drab and gray, turn into lovely colors as Mr. Hatch lets down his shy defenses and opens up to those around him. If you've seen "The Wizard of Oz"...and who hasn't?... you'll notice the similarities in the black and white Kansas to technicolor Oz.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Valentine's Day Book for Dora Lovers...
My 19 month old daughter loves Dora and I was wanting to get her a book for Valentine's Day when we came across this one.Of course, as soon as she saw it she pointed and said Dee Dee (her name for Dora).I wasn't sure how she would respond to it since it's a little longer than the Dora board books we have, but she loves it.It's a cute story about Dora and Boots meeting up at Rainbow Rock to celebrate Valentine's Day.This is a perfect treat for Valentine's Day.

We really liked the illustration and the funny poems and the good moral of the book. There wasn't anything really that we didn't like while reading it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Violets are blue i like this book and you should too!
The moral of the story is really good because it teaches kids to always be nice to peole no matter what. Even if people are are mean to you it is important to always be nice and polite and this book does a great job of teaching that. It helps kids see what can happen when people dont treat other people like they would want to be treated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Review for Arthur's Valentine
I liked the book because i can remember the first valentine that i received from a girl. I was happy like Arthur was, but didn't want everyone to know about it. In the story, Arthur gets a valentine from his secret admirer. He didn't know yet who it exactly was. He gets another one from the same person. The second one says for him to meet her at the movies. If you read this story, you will find out who sent him the valentine.

Cornelia Augusta couldn't believe her eyes as this unusual downpour began.Instead of water falling from the sky, it was raining hearts. She caught bunches of them in her hands and slicker, and took them home. After examining her hearts carefully, Cornelia Augusta knew just what she wanted to do with each and every one of them....Felicia Bond has brought back her 1983 picture book, originally titled, Four Valentines In A Rainstorm, and it's as sweet and charming today as it was almost twenty years ago.Her simple and gentle text is kept to a minimum. The actual story is told through her engaging, bright and expressive artwork, as Cornelius Augusta plans and constructs the perfect Valentine for each of four special friends.Preschoolers will enjoy watching her create each unique card, and guessing as to who will be receiving it.With a Valentine sticker page at the end to help your little ones get started on their own special Valentine cards, The Day It Rained Hearts is an endearing holiday book that shouldn't be missed. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful illustrations
We love any book illustrated by Maggie Kneen - my 3.5 year old daughter actaully ask for books with pictures by "Maggie."If you are looking for a Valentine book with a sweet story this is the one - the pictures alone are worth the purchase. The story ryhmes and as another reader stated, they words sometimes do not work very well, but the book is still a beautiful read.

4-0 out of 5 stars What a beautiful book!
This book is worth it for the illustrations. It is lovely to look at and fascinates my children. The interactive flaps are engrossing for the baby and actually help keep his interest for the entire read. The story is sweet, too.I look forward to reading this with my kids for many years to come.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely book, average writing
My 21 mo old LOVES the pictures in this book, as do I. They are beautifully done...just gorgeous. And the message of the gifts of nature being more precious and beautiful than any man-made gems is one I want her to appreciate. The only thing I don't like about this book is some of the rhyming verses...they just don't quite "work" some of the time. But the book is worth getting for the illustrations alone, and the overall message, so I do definitely recommend it ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book
I bought this book years ago for my now 9 yr old,. Now my 3 yr old has rediscovered all of Carter's books & loves them. She is a girly girl & is usually afraid of bugs but these bugs are so cute, she loves them. Of course as with most pop-up books,it is short & fragile-not for the very young to play with on their own. But it is a must-have for anyone with kids. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Brightly colored, and a lot of fun!
This cute little book (29 pages, excluding the title page and so forth) is another excellent example of the work of the incomparable Charles M. Schulz. In this book it's St. Valentine's Day, the time of love, candy and Valentine cards. Peppermint Patty sends a card to Charlie Brown, but it's the Little Red-Haired Girl that his heart goes out to. Now, if Charlie Brown can only get her to notice him...

5-0 out of 5 stars Nate the Great and the Mushy Valentine
This book was the best book I've ever read. I loved reading it. I couldn't wait to find out the answer. I guessed and I was rightNow I want to get EVERY single Nate the Great books. Even though this was my first Nate the Great book, it was the best book I've read.
4-0 out of 5 stars Mushy Valentine
I thought that the book, Nate the Great and The Mushy Valentine was a pretty good book to read. It was about a young boy solving two mysteries on Valentines Day. One for his dog and another for his friend. He thought hard to put all his clues together and fingured them both out. I recommand you to read this book if you are looking for a easier book to read and to understand. It was easy to follow along and to know what was going on in the story.5-0 out of 5 stars Nate The Great

Editorial Review

From simple love to love mysterious, love oh so hot to love rathercoolish, Sandra Boynton and her ubiquitous hippos, turkeys, and cats considerthe moods (and "many ways") of love. In impressive rhyming verse, Boynton holdsforth on myriad kinds of love, accompanying each rhyme with illustrations ofvarious romancing critters. Especially notable is "love problematic" (a pair ofporcupines) and "Love... well, cheap" (an oafish gorilla unsmilingly offers hismate a banana peel). The dramatic sequence between a rooster and hen is alsoparticularly hilarious. Boynton's inimitable style, as seen in such classics asRead more

4-0 out of 5 stars Consider this review and it's many words
Consider Love by Sandra Boynton is 178 words in length. My review of this book will probably contain more words than the book it is reviewing. The first two sentences were 26 words already so I was already 1/7th of the way to equalling Boynton when this sentence began, but I digress.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Exquisite -- A Classic Boynton Treasure
Sandra Boynton has outdone herself.5-0 out of 5 stars For that special someone

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun book to share with your children!
Jack Prelutsky has a talent for writing silly little poems about everyday things, bringing delight to young and old alike! In this book, he gives poetic justice to Valentine's Day in the most lighthearted way.My sons, now teenagers, were all fortunate enough to be introduced to this book, Jack Prelutsky, and poetry in general, by their first-grade teacher. They spent many happy moments reading these poems depicting a child's view of Valentine's Day...and I enjoyed them as well!Put this one on your list!
