this is a pretty good book to study/learn vocabulary at a high schoollevel

Vocabulary for Achievement 4th Course
This Vocab book is usefull and some of its exercises do help the studentto memmorize the information. But, some of the examples and ReadingComprehension articles are out dated, seeing as the book hasn't beenupdated in 13 years. Also, the grouping of asignments to make them betterfit do make it more difficult to take tests as the words highly similar.But overall its not really that bad. I've found myself using and readingalot of the words I've learned from this Vocabulary book.

Excellent
I used this book to teach 2nd graders of an Elementary school in Mexico. They loved the activities!

Beginning ESL
Although this book is more for children, there are some pages I was able to use for my adult ESL course.There are some nice diagrams along with good ideas on how to begin a level one class.

Invaluable resourse
I recently taught ESL in China for a few weeks and found this book incredibly useful. Although marketed as being for grades 1-4, I found this book helpful for even high school students--it depends more on the level of language proficiency than anything else. For example, I used the "parts of the body" page to review what my students already knew, and then they filled in more complicated words such as thigh, shoulder, ankle, etc. The money page has very realistic drawings of the various coins, all of which were new to my students. The food pages were very helpful before moving on to more complicated lessons on ordering in a restaurant. A great book for a modest price! ... Read more

They're Not Flash Cards - And Maybe They're Not Even Disney!
I give - some of the Einstein series appeals. Little Einsteins is inspired, engaging, and something that might not have caused Einstein himself to cringe. These lively oversized and laminated cards are terrific. I couldn't bring myself - mentally or physically - to "flash" cards before my toddlers. But, as we're told, things change around 3 to 5 as kids get engaged in the world around them and ask questions that make some folks (and certainly me) log on to Wikipedia.
Baby Einstein Language Discovery Cards Images and Words to Teach and Delight
I purchased this this thinking that I would use it a lot with my new baby, but I find that I have used it much more with my 5 year old and she loves it.We both have fun saying the word in the different languages.This is a great purchase and would be a great gift for a baby shower or for any child of any age!!

Making Words
This book is great!There are many word activities to choose from, which I find very helpful and a time saver!

Primary/ ESL class must have!
This book is wonderful for primary grades as well as ESL classes. It's interactive and the kids love it. We use it every morning when we enter the "Wonderful World of Words." There is also a Making Big Words for intermediate grades!I definitely recommend it!

Easy and interesting way to improve vocabulary
This book adds enjoyment to the desire of every one to have good vocabulary strength. More we proceed with story more words we add to our word pool.
Extremely useful but requires some discipline
I got this book to see if my 9-year-old could use it but as it turned out, the book is more suitable for me than it is for her.It is a great way to build one's vocabulary (I am learning quite a few new words myself) but it does take some discipline, and is certainly a bit too advanced for my daughter.If Mark Philips could also include the pronunciation in the footnotes, that would be even better.
Full of difficult words
This book has good words for first 100 pages, then later this book becomes tedious to read. Because each sentence has three to four tough words. Good book to learn vocabulary,
Fantastic Learning Tool!
From the first word to the last - this book is great!It only takes a few minutes a day to master these words and have a clear recall.It's very fun - and there is a review test after each 10 words.We do 2 a day and then test at the end of each week - perfect!

excellent if you have have to take an SAT, PPST, GRE
A friend (an MA in English) showed me those books recently, who homeschooled her son with them. Her son gotten nearly full scores on his entry exams in the vocabulary section!
I been using Vocabulary for 4 years now!
I am a student at Ridgewood High School in West Lafayette, OH. These books has unique words in then, but we never use them because we never heard of them before. It's just a waste of time. Most people copy off another students, only few STUDENTS learn from them.

This has been a great help!
At first, my daughter found this a liitle difficult, but now she is enjoying it and is learning a lot.I think she will be as prepared as possible for the 4th grade!

Good Book
I bought this for my 4th grader whose vocabulary was not up to par. The activities and tests reinforces the words learnt and it is such great fun while learning.He is quite enthused and can't wait for the next set of words, he's actually started using some of the words learnt.The only drawback is there are quite a few words that he already knows.

very good book for my 3rd grader
This book provides solid exercises for important grade 3-4 words. It arranges them in 10 groups then teaches each group with vivid activities and test questions. The contents are well designed. Be careful that this book may be too easy for many 4th grade students. In my case, my 3rd grader found it perfect. She finished it in 5 weeks. Word learning should not stop with one book. For similar word drills, I found Beestar (www.beestar.org) weekly exercises pretty good, too. My child's vocabulary is pretty outstanding in her class - thanks to such progressive word programs.

Enhanced Edition Only
I too ordered the book expecting it to be the regular addition.When I received the 'Enhanced Edition' I returned it for the regular addition, however they sent me the 'Enhanced Edition' again.This is not mentioned in their description, therefore they are falsely advertising this book as a regular edition.Buyer Beware!

Be careful as there are different editions of this book
I have used this vocab workshop series for years and it is great. One caution however is that there is an "enhanced edition" and a regular edition.My teacher wants us to use the regular edition so I have to search elsewhere as Amazon only carried the 'enhanced' and made no mention of the various editions in their description. I already wrote in the wrong version so am out $10.00. I also had trouble matching ISBN numbers on Amazon.
