5-0 out of 5 stars It's not easy not eating.
This book is a good book about a girl with an eating disorder. This book has a good lesson about eating disorders.Someone who thinks they're big would probably like this book because they can relate to what's going on.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has everything--it's amazing
This is the second book I've read in the series and it's even better than the first.I loved the story about Daly's family facing hard times and how that affected Daly and her eating problem. And then there's the storyabout Sophy and how she and Carlos might have a thing, or she thinks theydo but he doesn't.And of course the dancing's all great--it's like thiswhole world that you really feel exists.I love these characters!

5-0 out of 5 stars Behind the glamor, some hard truths about dance
I love ballet and I always dream of being a ballet dancer though I know Iam probably not good enough. I take ballet lessons and envy the girls whoare very thin. Until I read this book I never really thought about howunhealthy being too thin can be. I think if Daly's father hadn't lost hisjob she'd still try to get too thin because she thinks and her teacherthinks she is fat when she isn't. I have a serious crush on Ray. Carlos iscool but Ray is more fun. Everyone should read this book. The kids and thestory go on just like a real t.v. soap opera. I am never sure exactly whatwill happen. And you have to buy the next book to figure it all out. Evenif you don't love ballet you will love the story. I already have bookthree, In the Spotlight and I really love that too. I don't want to givethe end of two away so I can't say more. I only wish there were more aboutLaverne and about the ballroom school too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to boost your self-confidence and self-esteem.
This book rocks. I was bulimic, but when I read the book I found out new ways to loose weight that really works without hurting myself. Needless to say, it helped me A LOT.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is the bomb!!!!!
We teens lead some pretty extreme lives. In between bungee jumping, skysurfing, and looking for new places on my body to pierce, it can be a totalbummer trying to eat right. That's why this book is way cool!!!! The 28 dayprogram rocked!!! You gotta give it up for this one!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent help-book for overweight or troubled teens
i'm really very excited about `bodyPRIDE' simply because i have a teenage boy who was overweight and in a lot of despair about it. we used this book on a daily basis and within 4 months, he dropped several pounds. more important, his self-awareness and self-esteem grew dramatically. now, he's trying out for junior varsity football and is more happy about himself. the plan is easy to do and takes you through it, step by step. your kid can do it with you or, better yet, by him or herself. the language talks to them directly, i think. if you have a problem with your kid, this is a good tool. honestly, art richman ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Aw... I remember this book!
I have an old, torn-apart version of this book, and I absolutely adore it. Iit's a beautiful colleection of short stories from Asia that are really entertaining, cute and clever. And it's not too long. A great children's book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very enlightening and entertaining
This book is about a small boy who's elephant is taken from him by the Emperor. In order to get his elephant back, the Emperor challenges the boy and his village to come up with the elephant's exact weight. The boy livesa simple life but is not to simple to outsmart the Emperor. The challengewas believed to be an impossible one, however the boy uses basic logic tocome up with a method to weigh the elephant and is reunited with theelephant after providing his correct weight to the Emperor. The book istouching and thought provoking and the art work is excellent as well.Abook I would highly recommend for your children.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dog's eye view of the world
I just had to respond to the reader who panned this book: do you own a dog? This is a VERY funny book! And well done. Murphy, like many dogs and their humans had gotten into the habit of too many calories and too little exercise. To view the storyline as a case of "society's...reverence of appearance above all else" and to equate Cheryl's conduct with "humilia[ion] by forced exercise or dieting" is a major case of the reader projecting HER issues on Murphy! He's a dog: he lives to eat, sleep AND please his alpha dog, Cheryl. And Cheryl, like any good alpha dog (or parent, for that matter) is using positive discipline and proactive behavior to mold her protege into the best--and healthiest--dog he can be. 1-0 out of 5 stars Sad commentary
Murphy is a fat yellow lab whose human, Cheryl, purchases a treadmill and forces Murphy to use it. He does, loses weight, attracts a female dog, and becomes famous.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars angel's fun runneth over
Angelica Cookson Potts, better known as Angel, wants to be a chef when she graduates from high school.Food is her one love, something her stick-thin mother cannot understand. She is larger than all of her friends, and the Love of her Life, Adam, the dishiest boy in school, so she decides to make Major Life Changes. She starts with an all-cabbage diet, which produces rather nasty results. Then she starts going to the gym.But when the fashion show rolls around, she realizes that her size isn't such a bad thing after all.Complete with recipes, this book is about accepting who you are.It is very funny, and readers of all ages and sizes will enjoy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Treats and Teenagers
When I read this book I was amazed. In this book it portrays the character of a teenager, who's not the thinnest, smartest, or prettiest. But shes got an awesome personality. In the book Angelica Cookson Potts tries several diets, which lead to disasters, and failure. For you see, her mother is an ex-model who's as thin as a stick and Angelica is a little chunky. In the book she discovers she's in love with a guy who ends up to be a total slug. With a fashion show coming up she's worried out of her mind. She doesn't have to model though. She's in charge of the food and seating. When things don't turn out as planned everything changes. All through out the book you meet interesting, weird, and straight out hilarious character's. All with there own personalities. I think that was a strong part of the book. The difference in the characters, and how they all ended up fitting together perfectly. What I didn't like was the mothers character, she real insensitive to Angelica and that annoyed me. This book was amazing and did a good job at portraying a character of a teenager.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Sweet Little Treat
With her sagging bustline, concerns about the upcoming fashion show at school, and worries about how the Valentine's Day dance will turn out, Angelica Cookson Potts is not having a fun time being fourteen. An aspiring cook, Angel tries to solve her problems with batches of fudge and portions of "dead sophisticated tiny choux pastry puffs," but her attempts prove insuccessful. Can she ever learn to to be truly happy with herself, her life in general, and her cups that runneth over?

4-0 out of 5 stars An ably-told self-esteem story
Kathy Caple's "Starring Hillary" is about a little girl (well, a little girl cat) named Hillary who is perfectly happy with herself until she finds out that maybe she ought to lose a little bit of weight. As it turns out, Hillary's all-time-favorite heroine, an actress, is ever-so-slightly chunky just like Hillary is--and Hillary learns that there's nothing wrong with bodies coming in all shapes, sizes, and colors.4-0 out of 5 stars A great book for building self esteem
If you are looking for a book that children will enjoy and will build self esteem at the same time, then this is a book for you.The author deals with a difficult topic, weight, yet it is one most young children arealready painfully aware of.This book helps children to see themselves asalright despite their size or shape. I am a teacher of 5 and 6 yearolds and my class enjoyed the story as just a story but best of all theyalso related to it's theme of liking and accepting ourselves.Afterreading this book and the author's other book "The Biggest Nose",my class is beginning to say,"Hey I like myself." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars More, more, more
Sixteen-year-old Abby Matthews battles grief after her father's sudden death. Then, when she and her mother move from Suwanee, Georgia to San Francisco, her emotional cocooning and unhealthy eating packs on more weight than she expected. This makes the first days at her new school and in her new youth group miserable. Through her new friendships, she's chosen for the weight loss show, "Less Is More." If only we all had such good friends! This entire book series is based on the current reality TV shows, like Trading Spaces and Discovery Health's National Body Challenge. It's difficult to pick a favorite as Lawton's Changing Faces (Book 1,) and Flip Flop (Book 2,) are also written with a keen insight into relationships, personal struggles and how God doesn't desert us in our troubles, large or small. I've enjoyed all the books so far.

3-0 out of 5 stars The book i read was Extreme Elvin
Extreme Elvin by Chris Lynch was really funny. I can't believe that Elvin is so shy to get a girl. Well I enjoyed this book and i liked how the author wrote it to be so funny. I think someone that is like Elvin can learn from it. Also I think this book is appropriate for high school. It mentioned alot of adult things in it and language. But Elvin had to change his whole personallity in like two months. I think Elvin changed alot and the way his friends wanted him to. Some parts of the book was boring and it took along time for it to get really intersting. I liked the chapter when Elvin had the girl he liked over and ate with them. It was funny when Elvin would talk to himself and then say it out loud and people would look at him funny. I would recommend this book because it was really good, funny, and it makes you want to know what is going to happen next.

3-0 out of 5 stars Extreme Elvin was okay
The book Exreme Elvin writtin by Chris Lynch was a very confusing book. It always had me looking back to see if I missed something or forgot to read a page or something. On certain parts in the book, it seemed like it just randomly changed scenes. At one point Elvin was at school then the next he was at a store. But the storyline was great! I enjoyed it. My favorite chapter would have to be "By the Hand" because it got really exciting. It just made you want to jump in the book and punch Mikie right in the face because of how he was forcing Elvin to talk to the skinny girls and not the chubby girl he wanted to talk to. I would have to say this story was appropriate for high school student and some middle school students because it talked about the troubles of high school and girlfriends and stuff. It also had a lot of bad language and mentioned some adult things.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Read! Extreme Elvin!
