A fine work of literature that can stand alongside any in English
I just reread it recently as an adult. I had this boxed set of three hardcover E.B. White books when I was a kid - Charlotte's Web, The Trumpet of the Swan (which I remember as my favorite of the three, though I hardly remember it today), and Stuart Little.
Charlotte's Web
I've purchased this book for my daughter who is almost 9 years old, I end up reading it before her.This book is great for growing up kids; how wonderful and variable it is to have a friend he/she can depend on and be with to share fun, sad and so so stories to one another.
A classic, and for a good reason
This book, though it may seem to be just a cute story about a pig, is actually quite sad.The first time I read this book I was in first grade and I liked it, but it was only when I just recently read it again that I realized how good it really is. This book, through its simple plot, reminded me a lot about how selfless some people are and also about growing up.No wonder it's a classic; even though it's written for little kids, it can remind a lot of people about their own lives and bring back a lot of fond memories. ... fantastic teen read
I never knew that this book was by a ghostwriter.I loved it even though it was alittle crazy with the whole blair and nate and I wanna be bonnie and clyde thing.
Desperate, sucky, bad plot, and desperate is the recipie for the worst Gossip Girl book.
I was VERY dissapointed in this Gossip Girl book. It made me mad when I read the previous reveiws on the last book, saying that she had a ghost writer. Why I was mad, I have no idea. But, while first reading this book I was looking for hints that Cicly did not write this.
Here's the Wierd Thing
I've been reading the GG series since book 3 came out, and well, I hate all the characters, and their choices, but can't seem to stay away. It's just because the books are exceptionally well written for what is basically trash fiction.

A Good/Bad Start to the Year
Starting a completely new school isn't always easy, especially in Claire Lyon's case. Claire and her family moved from Orlando, Florida to Westchester, New York. Claire's Father is best friends with William Block, Father of Massie Block (Claire's age). The Lyon's family (Consisting of Claire's 10 year old brother Todd, Mom, and Dad) is staying in Massie's guest house in the back yard of the Block's estate. Massie does not take a liking to Claire when they first meet, and it doesn't get better. After a hard first day of school, filled with NO FRIENDS, Claire thinks of ways to get back at Massie for all the pranks she pulled on her during the day. One day while Massie, her dog, and her Dad are out on their nightly walk, Claire sneaks in and gets on Massie's computer. There she turns Massie's three best friends Dylan, Kristen, and Alicia against her. Unfortunately, during an argument with Kristen one day, Massie discovers that Claire was responsible for the feuds. At the long awaited school fundraiser auction for the girl's school, Massie and Claire's Dad take the stage for a round of "Ninety Nine Bottles of Beer on the Wall." They were both drunk, and were planning on singing until $1000 more was collected for the school. It was bearable until they called for their family to come up. Massie and Claire ran out of the tent, and hid in the bushes right next to each other. For two hours, the two exchanged jokes, embarrassing moments, and stories. Afterwards, Massie even said she had fun! The war was over; at least until next week.....This is a fantastic book that all middle school girls would love.

Seedfolks is a 69 page book, an easy read. Seedfolks is a book that shows that all different races, religions, cultures, and ages can come together to make something nice and beautiful and have meaning. They took a dump-like place and made it into something beautiful.
A Book for Building Community
This small book (69 pages) contains thirteen vignettes, each written from the point of view of a different person. Although the people begin as strangers from various ethnic backgrounds, they become acquainted as each cultivates a part of a vacant lot. As the lot becomes a place of beauty, individual lives are transformed as well -- and a community is created.

Read it again daddy!
This is one of those books that gets read over and over and over.Unlike some other books which end up at the bottom of the drawer.My 5 year old son is also starting to read the book himself (I hear him on the monitor).The other books in is this series are just as good if not better.
Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type
Great book!I just wish it was clearer that it was a paper book and not card board (which are much more durable for a two year old).Also, would love to know age approprietness for books when buying.

Excellent Selection!
Cows that type? Get out of town! Well, these cows do type, and negotiate. Life in a barnyard could not be more interesting than in this precarious story of farm animals that take a stand to better themselves and their environment. I loved the expressions on the animal's faces when Farmer Brown reacts to their demands. 'Eyes wide open' certainly applies here. This is a read aloud must! Not since I read Animal Farm by Orwell, have I been completely captivated by farm animals.

Being the new girl at school isn't easy, but what's even harder is when you're living in the guesthouse of the most popular girl at school and she doesn't want anything to do with you. Of course wearing overalls and Keds don't help out much when you go to a school that is all about fashion. When Claire's father goes to work for one of his friends from college Claire's family moves to the Block Estate's guesthouse, Massie's guesthouse, and Claire wants to be in the plans that Massie and her friends make, but soon realizes that it isn't as easy as it seems. Massie's list of LBR's, losers beyond repair, has just got its newest member, Claire. Trying everything that Claire can think to do to become friends with Massie and her BFFL, best friends for life, Claire has been nice and she has even tried to share her gummies with them but nothing works. Then finally she decides that she is going to go into Massie's room but she isn't sure what she is going to do there when all of a sudden an alarm sounding noise coming from her computer and find out that it is Massie's AIM was receiving an IM. It's Kristen, Claire pretends to be Massie almost every night for a week and Claire gets Massie's friends to turn to be her friends. They spend days at the mall buying clothes for Claire because she doesn't own alot of clothes. They spend time at each others house and spend the night, but when the plan takes an unexpected turn, Claire is now one of the most hated girls at their school because Massie found out about Claire sneaking into her room every night. Later that month at the auction Claire donates everything that Massie's friends bought her because her parent made her, so she buys the clothes and gives the clothes back to who bought them for her.
EHMAGOD....ITS THE PRETTY COMMITEE
Social Suicide is the point where 7th grader Massie Block is experience. When Massies best friend over hears girls at school talk about Massie falling off she is desperate for a plan to stay on top at OCD. She decides to throw a boy-girl Halloween party to keep her statice. The only problem is she has t throw it with Claire, her enemy, and the biggest loser in school. Think that's a problem, when THE PRETTY COMMITTEE decide to show off their devil costumes at school the school principles decides to make the whole school wear uniform. Meanwhile Alicia, a member of THE PRETTY COMMITTEE has a new best friend and Claire and Massie like the same guy. To keep the school from blaming Massie about the uniforms she decides to have a competition of girls making uniforms and the winner gets their uniform worn. In the end Alicia and her new best friend, Olivia wins Turns out they cheated, Massie, Claire, Kristen nd Dylan's team wins. Claire also finds out her and Massie likes the same guy when her and Massie finally becomes friends. What will she do now? I think this was a really awesome book. It shows the real everyday drama that girls experience, and it's funny, also unique.

Best Teen Novel Ever
This book is a real page turner. I loved it. I read it every chance I had. The characters and plot are so realistic. I couldn't put it down.Best Book Ever! I would reccomend this book to any girl who enjoys a little romance, some comedic moments, and cliffhangers. If you read this, you enter an amazing journey through girl world... where cat fights are permitted!

Revenge of the Wannabee's
In this book,The Clique is back and it's nastier than ever. Alicia Rivera, spoiled princess and definetley the prettiest of The Clique decides, with help from her new friend Olivia (or Faux-livia) that she is tired of being Massie Block's #2, she decides to step out on her own. Massie gets wind of this and plans her revenge. Kristen is suddenly wanted by both Alicia and Massie, doesn't know who to pick. Dylan knows that what Massie is doing to Alicia is bad, but she doesn't care. The newest member of The Clique, Claire Lyons, is suddenly wanted. Massie replaces Alicia with Claire and Cam, from the local boy's school Briarwood Academy, is showering Claire with mix CD's and gummy candy.

The A-list, the guiltiest of guilty pleasures!!
I have read the A-list from the beginning and there is one main reason why it became one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Two Words: Sam Sharpe. This is my favorite character, I just love they way she developed, her approach to things, her cynicism that hides a very emotionally troubled young woman. She is the less cliched of all the four main characters (Anna...classy, prim and proper Hampton girl, yawn..., Cammie the uberbitch always on the verge of redeeming herself and Dee the real LosAngelino character, with all her ingenuity, incense sticks and sojourns in the loony bin). These stories, developments and characters are totally unreal, but hey people, this is FICTION! And meant to be FUN! The characters won't cover their heads in ashes, donate their money to the poor and join Mother Teresa's nuns...It is so exaggerated that it is fascinating for a European like yours truly...
why is it dragging on and on and on?
i wonder if im reading the same book the others are reading. i'm on page 101 right now and it took me about 4 days to get this far. (i've gone through 3 clique books in a day, so it's not like i'm a slow reader) the book is just so boring. its like ive read all of this cr@p before! so far sam had a graduation party at her dad's yacht, we hear about 2 new characters from a rival school who happen to be enemies of sam and her group and conveniently enough the two schools do something together, i forget what but it looks like it will be the opportunity for sam to get her revenge for getting poop smeared on her white jeans a few years back (eye-roll). anna is incapable of taking care of herself at a time of crisis (her car gets rear ended by some cliche white trash woman) so her dad's 'dont judge a book by the cover cliche' tatooed but hot new intern comes to rescue her, omg romance! (another eye roll) ben is being a troll my guess is hes cheating on her, but seriously reading that chapter where they go on this really uncomfortable date just made me want to scream at the book! it was so annoying.

Queen of the Scene Book and CD
I really did enjoy the book a lot.This was a book was a page turner for me to read. I have always support any thing that Queen Latifah does. She has a postive attitude.She always show young women and girls that they can do any thing if they set there mind to it. I have nothing but love for Queen Latifah. Queen Latifah keep up the good work that you are doing to help young women and girls know that nothing is impossible.

Why do celebrities write children's books?
Honest to god, this is one of the worst celebrity-written kids' books I've seen (possibly second only to Billy Crystal's saccharine tripe).Being a songwriter, you'd think Queen Latifah would actually know how to write verse... but she can't.Her rhymes have no real meter or structure, and half the time they don't even make sense (and not in a good Dr. Seuss way).The illustrations aren't that bad, but good lord, it's a shame that famous people can get crap like this published based solely on their fame. ... A way to connect
I read When I was young in the mountains, then took it to my father, who read it.Rylant is slightly older than me, but she grew up near where my dad was born and raised.My father said after reading that he'd pretty much grown up the same way.He left the poverty of Appalachia as a teenager via the poor man's college-- the service.I was born and raised in Utah.Books such as When I was young in the Mountains were a way for me to connect with a way of life I knew very little about, and I am very thankful for Rylant's work, especially since Dad died recently.

West Virginia
Growing up in West Virginia myself, I relate to to this book. Although I'm now 20 and currently attending college, I still love to read it. It is something I plan to read to my children.

Memories of the Mountaina
This book showed us what is best about the mountains and the traditions of those living in those mountains.It has been so easy for our society to stereotype Appalachian mountain people as ignorant, backwards hillbillies that it is refreshing to see a depiction that shows mountain people in a different light.The old ways are disappearing.So are the mountains.The Appalachian mountains are one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world, containing one of the most diverse hardwood forests on earth.Mountain top coal removal, strip mining, and valley fills are destroying these mountains.Soon, the only way we will be able to show our children the beauty and wonder of these mountains will be through books and memories. "When I Was Young in the Mountains" will be a treasure in our house for generations.I encourage everyone to not only read this book, but also to support efforts to stop destructive, non-sustainable coal mining practices so we will be able to show our children and grandchildren more than just beautiful pictures of what once existed! ... A Sweet Little Story
I purchased this book to read to my baby and it is just a sweet little tale about Mommies and their mischievious babies.I can't wait until she is old enough to sit on my lap and really understand the story when I read it to her.I highly recommend it.

It's an Oldie but a Goldie!
My kindergarten teacher had also read this book to me and now I'm reading it to my kids, but really to my son because he's 4 and my daughter is 8. She listens to it when it comes time for me to read it to him because she would find it amusing. Blueberries for Sal preserve a distinct since of life when tin pails and wood smoke, bobby pins and rambling dirt roads were routine. At the same time it is a timeless portrayal of curiosity and maternal instinct as Sal and her mother find themselves sharing their berry patch with a hungry bear cub and its mother. The words flow in a natural rhythm, creating patterns that build anticipation.
Good book
My daughter loved this book from the age of six and continues to love it now that she is just about eight.This book doesn't hold my six year old son's interest as long as it did my daughter's but he does like it.Makes a nice gift for any that age group. ... Read more

The Pretty Committee Strikes Back
"...Massie took one look around.It was the last time she'd ever see these faces again."The fifth book in The Clique series, The Pretty Committee Strikes Back, takes the girls out of the city and into the wilderness as they venture into the woods on a school camping trip!Not only do they get to be away from their parents but they also get to be with the Briarwood boys who are only a few yards away.With all the excitement of the trip and having the boys their combined, the girls figure that they need to be prepared for anything so Massie starts M.U.C.K. (Massie's Underground Clinic for Kissing).Tension builds up when Massie is found to be a fake at kissing experience.But emotions run wild when Claire finds Alicia kissing her boyfriend as a way to get revenge for kissing her own crush.To add to the drama Dylan finds her famous talk show host mom kissing her geography teacher which causes her to run off into the woods mad, dragging the rest of The Pretty Committee along with her.Although they were specifically told not to venture off into the woods without adult supervision they continue to go deeper and deeper in.After an encounter with a grizzly bear the girls finally arrive back to camp grounds safely - only to find that they have been expelled from Octavian Country Day school!
Spectacular series!
I started reading these books before the summer started and Im hooked! To live like Massie Block and her friends would be like living among the gods. Sure they are spoiled snobs that we all hate to love, but, Hello?? we're entertained by it. Thats the important thing that we read a good story that keeps us entertained and we want to read more, and more of them. Lisi Harrison should be one happy camper. Cause I don't know anyone who doesn't like her books. THUMBS UP!!!!!!!!!!

when i first saw this book, i thought it would be another one of thosesame, old, never-ending popular book about the lives of popular girls, but i was dead wrong! i was bored and started reading the first book and i was hooked! i couldn't drop the books... and i'm not that big of a reader. this book is my favorite one so far... i think. i'm not done with the series yet. the book shows that although some girls can look cool and pretty on the outside, they do have the problems that other girls may have and the solutions are crazy and entertaining. i luv this book and the other clique series book. read it! =] ... Definitely In the Top 5 of All Children's Books
Almost everyone else has said it already--this is as good a book as you can read to your kids.Not, contrary to what an isolated review suggested, stilted at all.Just beautifully evocative of a family living complete and joyful lives, with their ties to the land still unbroken.

Touching, beautiful, full of love
I love this book!I bought this book for my son (then 3) when I was expecting my daughter.Admittedly, this is MY favorite book.My son would much rather read something silly than poignant.But this book is GORGEOUS!The illustrations are achingly beautiful.The love in this multigenerational family leaps off the page.There is a home birth, love of the land/ nature/ farming, and sibling love.The boy in the story is taught by his mother, father, grandfather and grandmother about "all the places to love."The story closes with him teaching these things to his new sister.Every once in a while, my son asks me to choose the books I like best for our reading and I always choose this one.Don't get me wrong, he likes it too (he's now 5) he just doesn't usually choose it.You won't regret buying this book!

Passing on the things we love
I am not only a Book junkie, I am a grandma who wants to pass on the Passion. I fell in love with this book not only because I grew up in rural Michigan, on a dairy farm, with my grandparents up the road. I love all the books almost have all of them it's like being a teenager. I'm always wanting to find out what happens in the next chapter.
Sleazy and Petty
This installation of the Gossip Girl series is just as shallow and superficial as all its predecessors are. The entire plot revolves around getting high, having sex, smoking, and guzzling down alcohol. The whole series is pure trash from beginning to end.

Not as good as the others
I agree with what some of the other people are saying this book is no where near as good as the other books, it seems as if ever since the kids graduated the author has run out of ideas. And those reviewers who are complaining about how this book isn't apporiate for younger readers, shoud know this book is for ages 16 and up and every 16 year old has heard or used the "f" word at least once in their lives.Yes there is a lot of sex, drugs, and bad language but that's a part of the real world. ...
