2-0 out of 5 stars Need to cut out
I'm not sure why the description says "easy to remove" clothes, because I had to cut everything except the dolls out.Maybe they meant easy to remove from the dolls, or maybe I just got a bad lot!But I had no idea I was going to have to cut everything out in order to use it!My hand is hurting! It's a cute set but also a little flimsy (while punching out the dolls a couple of them tore on the tabs).

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun
I gave this to my granddaughter on her 5th birthday. Her mother had already been reading her the primary Little House books. She was a big fan of them so she was thrilled to get the paper dolls so she could act out some of the stories she had been hearing.

5-0 out of 5 stars creative, beautiful story
I am a third and fourth grade teacher. The librarian in our school highly recommended this book.I read it aloud to my third grade class of boys, and they were thoroughly intrigued by the book. There are several vignettes throughout the book, and each of these wonderful depections is written with breathtaking imagination. The characters and the storyline are well built.I would recommend this as an independent reading book for most fourth or fifth graders, and as a read aloud for third graders because it is written in an old-fashioned southern manner, which, in my opinion, is a bit difficult for most third graders to read fluidly by themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Journey
This book takes you on a trip of discovering wonderful things around you. This is a great book for 5th graders and up. The message is awesome for all of us to remember. Everyday, we all see the wonders of the world.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good ole story
This is a good, fun story of adventure. I enjoyed reading which wonders Eben might find. It's nice to be taken back to when kids could use their imagination and walk through-out their town, talking to people, discovering their environment and be safe doing so! This is a heart-warming, purposeful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars WVU Fans have to buy
My husband and his family are huge WVU fans so of course I had to get this book. The pages are beautiful. The artwork looks like a quilt.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for any Mountaineer!
This adaptation of John Denver's beloved song is a must for any family who has ties to West Virginia. The illustrations are beautiful and detailed, and the CD is a fun bonus.(Our son likes to have the CD playing as he follows along in the book.)Everyone loves "Country Roads," but West Virginians especially enjoy this, our adopted state anthem.A great way to introduce the song to the next generation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very highly recommended for family, school, and community library picturebook collections
Illustrated and adapted from the popular song by John Denver by Christopher Canyon, John Denver's Take Me Home, Country Roads. Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert, two of John Denver's friends who were driving through the beautiful rolling hills of Maryland and in the process began composing a song inspired by what they were seeing along the way. With Denver's help (they were all performing at a nightclub together), changing the state to West Virginia and some other tweaks to the lyrics, it became an instant hit as the three sang it together before an audience for the first time. Christopher Canyon's detailed and busy artwork is a perfect page-by-page, lyric line by lyric line showcase for the story of the song. Very highly recommended for family, school, and community library picturebook collections, John Denver's Take Me Home, Country Roads is also available in a hardcover format with an accompanying CD (1584690720, $19.95).

5-0 out of 5 stars An Everybody Book
This is one of those books that I call a real book--not for kids, not for adults, not for girls...just a good, well-written and illustrated book that is brilliantly designed to reach you where you are at.It did have the added bonus of making me cry on the last page, in a bittersweet sort of way.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful story and pictures!
This is a beautiful book that my 3 year old loves to be read over and over. The pictures are wonderful to look at, with such rich detail.I am moved by the story, and I cry at the end every time. One of thier best books!

5-0 out of 5 stars Grow for me
There are good David Small books and there are bad David Small books.Good David Small books are usually (though by no means always) written AND illustrated by David Small himself.Bad or poorly created David Small books are usually written by someone else, using Mr. Small's talents as a kind of afterthought. The exception to this rule (and all rules, as you well know, must have exceptions) is the pairing of David Small and his wife Sarah Stewart. After creating the fabulous "Money Tree" and the bibliophilic, but somewhat disturbing, "The Library", the two combined their talents yet again to write a gentle story of love, gardening, and family.Read more

Editorial Review

"I am Eloise/I am six." So begins the well-loved story of Eloise, the garrulous little girl who lives at New York's Plaza Hotel. Eyebrow raised defiantly, arm propped on one jutting hip, Eloise is a study in self-confidence. Eloise's personal mandate is "Getting bored is not allowed," so she fills her days to the brim with wild adventures and self-imposed responsibilities. An average Eloise afternoon includes braiding her pet turtle's ears, ordering "one roast-beef bone, one raisin and seven spoons" from room service, and devising innovative methods of torture for her guardians.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ooh I just love Eloise!
Awesome book!Totally loved it--my three year old finds her fascinating."Why does she want to pour a pitcher of water down the mail chute, mommy?"She's a naughty girl but such a wonderfully creative and self reliant one! I think she is a great role model for my little girls!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mother of Two
I would think someone who would be offended by the style in which "Eloise" is written would be "smart" enough to know that the expression is "for all intents and purposes" and not "intensive purposes."
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
Wehave one of the softcover books and enjoy it very much and so I thought I would by this for my 4-year-old (who actually acts like Eloise sometimes). BAD CHOICE! I read through it on my own before I read it to her and THANK GOODNESS! Eloise is a back-talking, foul-mouthed terror! I can see how some adults may enjoy this book - maybe they're living vicariously through her antics. But she is no example in this book for small children. I'll be more careful next time - there definitely are cute "Eloise" books out there but this one was dreadful. If you're a big fan, read it through completely first to see it it's a fit. I must say that I was horrified. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Illustrated with Wonderful Message
This is a simple story with profound messages that young children definitely will get and think about. The illustrations are also lovely and compliment the value in this book because they capture the attention to promote the learning of the lessons the messages put forth.Having taught Sunday school and worked in a daycare, I recommend this book.It is a wonderful addition to any library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great
This was my favorite book as a child and I wanted to get it for my daughter. The theme of this book is change, both positive and negative. It takes the reader through the changes in seasons by showing the reader "the birth of a city" and what the little house lived through.

5-0 out of 5 stars Plus the recipes sound delish
You know what author Shelley Pearsall's got? Flexibility, baby. Loads of it. Let's say, for example, that you write a rip-roaringly good bit of harrowing historical fiction (as she did with "Crooked River"). Now you'd like to follow that up with another book for kids. Do you follow the straight and narrow path of always writing with an eye on the past? Or do you get inspired by a group of students at the Alexander Hamilton School in Cleveland, Ohio? Pearsall opted for the latter, and the result is the surprisingly good, All of the Above. Now I avoided this book like crazy for a while. Why? The crummy cover. But open that same cover up and you find a story that never loses hope but that also never treads into the world of mindless optimism. There's a gritty reality hiding at the core of this book. The surprise is that it's a pleasure to discover it for yourself.

Author: Richard Peck Publisher: Dial Books Tiffany Robinson
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read!
I absolutley loved this book. Richard Peck blends hummor so well into his stories and this one is no different. Very vivid characters allow us to follow as though we were in the story. I love some of the teaching strategies that the "new teacher" uses, and I love the glimpse that Richard Peck shows us of how school was very different not tooo long ago.

I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.
5-0 out of 5 stars Creative way to tell the meaning of Christmas
A farm family grows Christmas trees to sell, and thefarmer's wife chooses the most beautiful tree for her own family, putting a sign on it, "Not for Sale". But when a poor family comes to the tree lot to see if they can pick out a tree from the free area (trees that have missing branches or crooked trunks), the poor family's little girl sees the beautiful tree and asks if she can choose that one. Everyone is embarrased that she asks, as the adults all know her family can't afford the tree. The farmer's wife responds that she is sorry, the tree isn't for sale...because they'd like the girl's family to have it as a gift. The book ends, "Yes, it was a great sacrifice. But it brought even greater joy. Isn't that just like Christmas?"The illustrations are very kid-friendly and fun. Applicable Bible verses are at the bottom of every other page. A creative and wonderful story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dance dance wherever you may be
All right, class.Altogether now.How does one go about getting kids interested in historical fiction?Any ideas?I heard somebody mentioning starting the kids on that kind of thing early on.Very good! It's an easy enough task to read historical picture books to children before they can read on their own, certainly.Just load your bookshelves with some Patricia Polacco, some Patricia McKissack, and maybe a dash of Allan Say for good measure. The minute the children want to read their own books, however, you may find filling their historical fiction needs a bit trickier. If it isn't related to "The Time Warp Trio", parents often find their bookshelves sadly lacking in that whole early chapter book historical fiction genre. So what author exists to rescue you from this dire plight?Who else but Patricia MacLachlan, author of "Sarah, Plain and Tall"!The series that begin with this pleasantly slim novel has added yet another title to its mix."Grandfather's Dance" follows the Witting family's adventures as everyone prepares for Anna, narrator of the first book, and her wedding.

Cassie Witting has a little brother named John Jacob Witting, but everyone calls him "Jack," and he calls himself "Doggie." In the months before a big wedding, Cassie watches the relationship between her little brother and their grandfather. She is alternately amused and annoyed by Jack's constant aping of Grandfather's speech and movements. So is Grandfather.

It also helps the reader understand the role of the father, mother, and children during the late 1800s.Furthermore, it shows them although slavery has ended, how many still felt the African American still had his place. From crossing the mighty Mississippi River, to going to the Dakota Terriotory, this book truly captures the time and events of an interesting period in American history. ... This is of course by the same author as "Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel," and just as delightful.Appeals to girls and boys alike, and as your child grows, (s)he will find more and more in the book -- maps of the town, buildings' names, names of machine parts, and more.Strongly recommended, even for those unfamiliar with "Mike Mulligan."

I have to agree with the other 3-Star Reviewer. This is not one of Burton's best books. My children (boy and girl; almost 4 and 6) didn't care much for it.There is none of the usual clamoring for another read.

3-0 out of 5 stars More perfect than the moon
This book was not my favorite book in the world but i definitely learned from it. I learned that people can change. I learned that you should't ddoubt someone when you don't know the details. I would recomend this book to people who like realistic books.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'More Perfect than the Moon' is a perfect read
Author Patricia MacLachlan, most famous for "Sarah, Plain and Tall," invites us back to re-visit the Witting family in "More Perfect than the Moon."Mother Sarah is pregnant in "More Perfect than the Moon," much to youngest daughter Cassie's chagrin.Cassie chronicles her feelings and emotions about the upcoming arrival of the 'terrible baby' in a private journal she keeps.Cassie's private journal entries are sometimes true happenings around the Witting farm.Other times, the entries are what Cassie wishes would happen.Either way, the entries had me smiling and laughing out loud.MacLachlan holds true to her typical writing style and shows us that change is inevitable and made bearable by the love of family.Another heart-warming, laugh-out-loud, easy read by MacLachlan.

5-0 out of 5 stars A STELLAR READING
Versatile and always impressive actress Glenn close surely merits all the accolades and awards she has received (4 Oscar nominations, 3 Tony Awards, 1 Emmy Award, and 3 Grammy nominations).Few will forget her over the top performance in Fatal Attraction then a remarkable switch of gears to 101 Dalmatians. She uses her considerable gifts to vivify the narrator in this, the fourth installment in the Sarah Plain and Tall stories.

4-0 out of 5 stars better then expected
Well, when first picked up I wasn't expecting much from the book. I had met the author earlier on, and decided to finally read one of her books and this was the most appealing.

Money hungry is the best book ever because of its suspense. When i first read the book I thought it was a little dumb. But then the book went into suspense. I went nuts and i couldn't just drop the book because it left you hanging. And you couldnt go back sleep because you were just dying to find out what was going to happen next. Its a great sensation and it really makes you get into the book. The novel is also very detailed and colorful book because it gives a lot of details and really makes you want to finish the book. Opal just moved to Naomi,Florida with her dad the preacher. One day he sent her to the store (winn-dixie)to get food.Opal came back with a stray dog.She asked the preacher to keep him but he said no.Finally her dad gave in and let him stay there while they were looking for a homefor him.Opal named the dog Winn-dixie.they had lots of aventures together and made lots of nice friends.Such as Otis (gertrudes pet shop owner),Mrs Franny Block(libray owner),Gloria Dump,And sweetie Pie Thomas.Opal was reading Gone with the wind to Gloria and they decided to have a party just like Ms.Scarlet.They did it was fabulous. They invited all there new friends. All the stuff that happend that summer happend because of Winn-dixie.Ilike the book and the movie just about the same. But I would have to say I like the book a little bit more.If you haven't read the book yet you should its a very good book about a girl that finds a dog and they end up to love it each other.

4-0 out of 5 stars Harris and Me Editorial Review
Harris and Me by Gary Paulsen is a great book that accurately depicts a child's thoughts. At the beginning of the novel you're introduced to an 11-year-old boy who is often sent off to live with relatives because of his parents drinking problems. The reader immediately learns about the boy's past and the reader is also hinted to what's going to take place in the near future.Paulsen uses exposition and foreshadowing well while explaining the boy's story.

My favorite book is Harris and me .I like where Harris was playing cowboy'sand Indians . My #1 thingthat I mostly like is when Harris fell off the horse to swing on another horse.
