5-0 out of 5 stars Every Child needs Cowboy Small
This is a great book, very light hearted and catchy.Be prepared to keep it handy, it's one of those books you will read it to your child, niece, nephew.... over and over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Our family's all time #1 Lois Lenski book ever!!!!
You can't go wrong with Cowboy Small. Even if your child isn't into being a cowboy, they will like this story. My 2 girls (now ages 22 and nearly 13) both LOVED Cowboy Small! I read it over and over and over and over...we had it on permanent checkout from the library it seems!! Then the library gave it to us when they were clearing out worn books...we were thrilled and treasured this book! I read this book so much I can still recite most of it. My son is 7 and he likes to play cowboy and he likes his reissue copy of Cowboy Small, but it is interesting that my girls asked for it to be read to them much more often. Our children's bouncy horse even got named Cactus in honor of Cowboy Small's horse. I recently gave this book to a 60+ yr. old friend who has horses and dresses in cowboy clothes, and he loved it! He has it displayed on a shelf in his livingroom and reads it to his grandchildren when they visit. I repeat: you just cannot go wrong with Cowboy Small. It has a simple but great story, nice pictures, and is a whole lot of fun. So glad it is available for today's children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful first story book
My 2-year old son and I just checked "Cowboy Small" out of the library. Couldn't believe my luck in finding this book! This is the first story book that's held my son's interest past the first few pages and all the way to the end and back again, and I mean backwards through every page.Read more

I just bought this book for a gift, and seeing it on Amazon's website makes me want to go find it on my daughter's bookshelf, and read it myself. And I'm 43!
5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding in every way
This has been a favorite book of ours for years and years and years."The Year at Maple Hill Farm" is written and illustrated by Alice and Martin Provenson. It documents, from January through December, the hard tasks and simple pleasures inherent in life on a farm--everything from bird migrations to the foaling of the horses to lazy summer days spent doing nothing more important swatting flies.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ball Don't Lie
I liked his book because it was about basketball and I have played basketball for the last nine years. I felt like I understood the book because I know a lot about basketball. It also told of a story about a boy growing up in the foster carte system.
4-0 out of 5 stars Ball Don't Lie
I loved the book. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened to the main character, "Sticky." It's not the kind of book you have to use a dictionary all the time. It's written in plain simple language.
5-0 out of 5 stars West Coast Baller Shows Heart
I'm not usually a big book guy, but I knew I had to read my boy "Cali's" first book. We play ball together at the Prospect YMCA. So I went and bought a copy to show my support. Then I didn;t read it for about six months. Well I just finished it last night. I couldn't believe how good it was. This dude can really write. And I love the story. It's sad, but in the end you feel like the main character is going to be alright. Speaking of the main character. He's from the west coast which usually means he'd be soft, but this kid has got some heart. so get get a copy of this book and support my boy Cali. You'll be happy you did. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The latest in this teen series
Victoria Ashton scores again.
5-0 out of 5 stars ...a pinch of money, and a whole lot of back-stabbing that will leave you foaming at the mouth, and wanting oh-so-much more
Teen nannies and society girl wannabes Adrienne and Liz finally have everything they've ever dreamed of. At least, that's what they think. While Adrienne's relationship with Brian, her boyfriend of two-years, is over ever since he kicked her to the curb to creep around with rich girl debutante, and celeb wannabe, Cameron Warner, Adrienne doesn't mind flying solo for awhile. But when Graydon "Gray" Warner, begins making advances towards Adrienne. Advances that seem much more sincere than the ladies man has ever displayed before, she begins falling for his charm. However, when Adrienne's charge, and Graydon's half-sister, whiz kid Emma Warner, begins putting her detective skills to the test, she discovers some very unsettling news about her new crush, that leave her wondering whether she's being played for a fool. Liz, on the other hand, feels that her relationship with Parker Devlin, wealthy heir, and handsome guy to boot, is going strong. That is, except for the fact that one day he's excessively attentive, and the next, he's running on cold, and dodging her phone calls, e-mails, and text messages, leaving her wondering what else is going on in his world of wealth. As if that weren't bad enough, Liz has got to deal with a fretful nine-year-old, whose supposed Child Psychologist extraordinaire mother seems to feel that the best way to compete with other society parents is by forcing her skittish child into taking horseback riding lessons, and competing in horsemanship shows. Now, the two girls (along with a handful of their friends) must get to the bottom of all of the secrets surrounding them, before someone ends up with a broken heart. Or, even worse, an unkind blurb on Page Six that could ruin their reputation forever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book!
My 2 1/2 year old twins love it when I sing this song to them, so I was thrilled to find a book that illustrated it.The pictures are bright and fun, and it's always nice when the publisher includes the lyrics/music, as it does in this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Kids LOVE This Book
My mother taught this song to me when I was little & now I can share it with my children too. The pictures are bright & engaging. My three year old & 16 month old both like to "read" the book & we sing the song together when we are finished.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
This is one of the loveliest books that we read to our own children. It has a beautiful, rhythmic, lyrical text, perfect for reading aloud - something rare in more recent children's books.I can still recite large parts of it by heart, and one of them still makes me cry.I'm buying it for my [...] granddaughter, and I can't wait to read it to her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful animals
These are great animals! They are "real"and they do real things!I love them because they are just like some of mine!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Primer for Children
This book is classic!A primer for Children on the nature of our relationship to animals, both domestic and wild, and on the cyclic nature of life. The story centers around farm life, and remains a favorite of mine from childhood. It is a favorite of my two children, as well, and provides an inspiring counterpoint to life in the suburbs.Wonderfully layered characters and illustrations bring values such as sharing, compassion, hard work, family and friendship to the fore, while the overall theme of birth and rebirth forms the background.

Second grade boys are tough critics but I've yet to find one who didn't like "The Adventures of Taxi Dog".The story, told in rhyme, is sensitive and funny. The pictures are colorful and ripe withdetails.Thededication is special and should not be skipped if you are reading this one out loud.

5-0 out of 5 stars There is a home for every creature
I read this book to my son when he was 5 yrs old as part of the scholastic book order through his school. My son is now going to be graduating from high school and he still has the book. However, it has seen better days since it is in paperback! The first time I read this book to him, believe it or not, I got choked up. The illustrations and the story itself are outstanding. He treasures this book as a very happy childhood memory. I've decided as part of his graduation present that I would get the brand new hard cover so that he may always cherish it and read it to his own kids some day. :o) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Midnight fox
The midnight fox is about a boy who goes to a farm and then sees the fox the fox is in danger can the boy save the fox from hunters or will he watch the fox die. this book is about courage and wisdom and sadness. But will tom be brave to stay at the farm in till there parents come to get him. Find out all you have to do is read the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Foxy Loxy
Back in 1968, I think it's fair to say that your average male hero in children's fiction was usually an athletic or at least agile young man.The Hardy Boys, after all, were still popular and the degree of introspection most young men in today's fiction are apt to was significantly less. Not so the hero of Betsy Byars's, "The Midnight Fox".A small unassuming but still interesting book from the last 60s, the tale is of an unathletic average boy, his summer spent on a farm in the country, and his chance encounters with a mysterious woodland creature. There is no magic. No mystical occurrences or significant coincidences.Just ordinary people acting and reacting to one another and the appearance of the animal that divides them.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Mysterious Fox
If you like mysteries and stimulating books, then you will love this book. The book is about a kid named Tom who goes to spend his summer at his uncle's farm and finds a mysterious fox. Read how he will save the fox from getting killed by his uncle. This takes place at his uncle's farm and at a gorgeous forest. This book contains no pictures so you could use your imagination in this astonishing book. I enjoyed how he would trick his uncle into saving the fox. There is some tragedy in this story for Tom. It was difficult to move away from his parents for the whole summer. The author of this book is Betsy Byars. So if you want to find an exciting book like this one, look for books that Betsy Byars wrote and I think they will be as magical as this one. ... Read more

I ordered Beverly Cleary's two autobiographies on Amazon, and recieved them last week. The first of the two is called, "A Girl From Yamhill" and the second is, "My Own Two Feet".Both are excellently written. The first is of her childhood until she goes off to college and the second is her college days and a few years beyond. She has a style of writing that makes you feel as though you have known her your whole life and are the dearest of friends. What amazed me the most about these books is how timeless they are.Even though she grew up during the depression and went to college before the advent of computers and the technology boom, it was eye opening to see that the human condition and experiences don't really change all that much. She is an excellent storyteller, and the words on the page lept into my mind's eye and I could see it unfold before as if I were watching it on a movie screen.I was sad to see the first book end, but glad that I had ordered the second book as well. Then when I finished the second book I found myself wishing that she had written another book to tell more of her life's stories.I finished reading them both within a couple of days and found myself doing something I have never done before.I immediately began to read them again ( I am currently half way through the first book). If you grew up loving her children's books as I did, then these are a must have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Simple
When I was in grade school I read every Beverly Cleary book I could. I have never forgotten Ramona or Henrie! This Memoir was simply written. Really not much happens here. There isn't a lot of depth to Ms. Cleary's writting but I will admit I enjoyed this book very much. I am planning on reading the sequel next!

5-0 out of 5 stars In a word: Charming
As an avid reader of contemporary fiction, it was a pleasant and surprising change of pace to read this autobiography of Beverly Cleary's early years. Her life on the Yamhill is depicted with such immediacy and heartfelt affection that it made me wish I had brought my children up on a farm.It seems that the farm years (only until 1st grade) set her up for life. The rest of Beverly's life in Portland was marked by arguments with her strict and difficult mother, the poverty of the depression, and her father's sadness at being away from the farm he loved.Somehow Beverly always retains her sense of self and makes her life sound downright enviable. The tales of her struggles with school, her mother, money, and an over-ardent boyfriend are told with humor and equanimity. The reader can't help but love Beverly. She makes you yearn for a simpler time.I know that she turned 89 last week.I hope she is well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Series
One of the things I like about this book for young readers is that the same vocabulary words are repeated throughout the series so that the kids can build on what they learned in one book while they're reading the next.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book.
My students are learning English and American culture. They learn to read these books and are highly motivated because the television show mirrors the books so closely. They can go on to read the real little house on the prarie books and enjoy them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids are fascinated
Life in the "Little House" days is so different from my own kids' suburban lives that they are fascinated by this series. The reviewer who wrote that these are a poor substitute for the real thing is wrong. These are a great introduction for kids to these books, help them get a historical perspective of earlier American life, and will wet their appetite to read the original Little House books when they are old enough. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Family focused simple story about the Autumn Season
A simple story about things that a family can do in autumn. Depicts apple picking with the family at an apple farm, pumpkin picking, and carving a jack-o-lantern. The last three pages feature trick or treating with the children dressed as: pirate, ghost, queen and a devil.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for fall!
I read the Big Book version of this with my primary classes, accompanied with the audio, and they really enjoyed it.It was a lot of fun just before Halloween. They liked the fall colors. It was pretty and colorful. It is not a "baby" book as it is classified, but is appropriate for kindergarten or first grade.
