5-0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Read-Aloud
The Baby Beebee Bird is one of my very favorite books to read aloud to young children. The characters are varied and the baby beebee bird itself has a nice little compulsive personality. The book gives an example of problem solving and, best of all, lends itself to many open-ended questions and what if scenarios for use in the home or in a classroom situation. Most importantly, children love the book, and such love for one book can lead to love of books in general. As a teacher of young children, I believe fostering that love for books is essential to raising a life-long learner. Your children will love this book - have no doubt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hearing Bee- Bee's in my Sleep
My five year old son checked this book out of our local library and it became addictive. After three more check-outs and hearing Bee- bees every where I took my two children I decided to purchase this book. It is a classic my children absolutely are addicted to. My husband and I now take turns with the animal sounds and really ham up the animals. The illustrations are good and my children love the expressions on the faces. With two boys this book is well loved because of it's loudness, sillyness, and the giggles it produces when the animals fall over with exhaustion.

5-0 out of 5 stars My love for Steven Kellog introduced me to a great book!
I origionally bought this book thinking it was by Steven Kellog.

3-0 out of 5 stars Danger At The Zoo
There was a girl who needed a job, so she applied to work at the zoo. She got the job a few days later. After she was working for a few days all of the workers food was gone or the food was missing. ( apples, bananas, crackers, ext...) So then all of the workers and the person who owns the zoo where keeping a eye out, but then they thought that someone broke in. Then they figured out that no broke in because there was no evidence. So then a few days later, at night, a few people stayed and found out that there where two homeless people that where living there because they didn't have no money. ( poor ) So now all of the people that work there are all happy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Danger at the Zoo
When the American Girl company released the first American Girl Mysteries, nobody knew quite what to make of them. I must admit I'm glad this one is here!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Mystery for History Fans
The year is 1934, and ten-year-old Kit Kittredge is ecstatic when she lands a summer job with the local newspaper working on a Kids Column, for she'll finally be fulfilling her dream of being a real life newspaper reporter. The best part? She'll even be getting paid one dollar for every story that the paper publishes by her, which will really help her family during this time of the Great Depression. But when Kit begins snooping around the Cincinnati Zoo, gathering facts for her story about the Zoo Guides, she stumbles upon some very strange monkey business, that happens to be taking place right in the middle of the monkey house. Kit's nose for news tells her that she's onto something big. And she knows, with a bit more investigating, she'll definitely be able to get the scoop!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute Book
This book was recommended by the Before Five In A Row series. It is a cute book with flaps that the children love to flip by themselves. For children who like animals and surprises (what's behind the flap surprises) this is a good gift and a good addition to your family library. The flaps are large enough so they are less likely to be ripped off.The flaps actually are part of the page flipped over, so it's not a small flip-flap like in the Spot Goes To School series of flap books.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must book for young growing minds
Being a "book family" and spending hours searching book stores and TEST-READING so many titles before purchasing, we stumbled upon this class H.A. Rey book and it's a "REAL WINNER". Our 3 yr old grandson Derek wants it read to him every night and I being an old zoo keeper and teacher enjoy it just as much as he does. Bah humbug to those who say it is repetitious - in repetition lies the foundation for early reading ....and as far as the scientific end of it - those zoo meals are just about on target except for too many bananas - must have been George's influence on the author. RUN OUT AND GET THIS "classic" FLAP BOOK F-A-S-T !5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Book for Every Child
I have 3 children, ages 19, 10, and 4. When my oldest was 5 or so, I stumbled across these books. This is one title ina series of 5 books that ALL my children enjoyed in their childhoods. My 4 yr. old still picks these books for bedtime most every week. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Vibrant Colors
This was a cute book.It is not one of my favorite but it had bright colors and fun animal pictures. It seems like they spent all of their time on the illustrations and slapped together the words of the story as an after thought. It is a fun book to pet but a bland book to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for babies!
I just love this series of books! This one is larger than the others, and my daughter loves feeling the fur of the different animals. This is a great book if your baby is really into textures and animals...very cute!

5-0 out of 5 stars a touch and DO book

5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable and perfect for getting ready for preschool!
My 2 year old son loves this book!We started reading a few weeks before preschool began, and it really helped him know what to expect at school.Even after school started, he wants to read it every night and tell us what he does at school that is just like Corduroy, as well as what is different. We've been able to discuss sharing, his teachers, and get more information from him about how he's feeling at school.
4-0 out of 5 stars mother of toddler
If your child is starting pre-school, this is a great book for showing your little one what to expect because Corduroy and his friends do the same things that your child will do in school -- paint, do puzzles, read, play on the swing set, etc.
1-0 out of 5 stars Maybe the EDITORS Should Go to School
My 21-month-old son enjoys this cute book immensely, but it contains a serious error. The book states that Corduroy makes "a big blue 'B,' and a big green 'C,' but the illustration shows a red (rather than blue) B and a purple (rather than green) C. That is an unforgivable mistake for a book that should be helping children learn to identify colors. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
We love the Snappy Books.Snappy Little Zoo is our 6th Snappy Series book. When my 18 month son wants to "read" a book, his first choice is one from the Snappy Series. The books are a great way to get your child interested in reading. The pop ups are so creative and the words are ones that can be repeated by a toddler.I highly recommend the Snappy Book Series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming and Wonderful!
Although I did not see the television documentary on these two littledarlings, I nevertheless loved the book. Although they are now big bears, the story of little Klondike and Snow's early years is interesting, educational and touching. Abandoned by their mother as cubs, the two bearswere raised by humans. This book clearly illustrates the love and devotionof the Denver Zoo towards the cubs' care and development. Klondike and Snoware now thriving at Sea World's Wild Arctic exhibit, were they have plentyof living space and attention! 4-0 out of 5 stars A Teacher's Review of"Klondike and Snow"
Anyone who was fascinated by the PBS program on these two polar bears will enjoy this book.It tells the story of their early years before being transfered to the Florida zoo.The photos are amazing!I've used thisbook as a resource with K-6th graders, and all ages have loved it.Thetext under the photos is very small and in blue, making it difficult toread, but the main text is fine, and otherwise the book is wonderful.Ihighly recommend it to anyone with an interest in these two very specialbears.

4-0 out of 5 stars Realistic pictures
I have read the other reviews and understand why others have problems with the text. The pictures alone are WONDERFUL - so realistic and makes you feel you are right there with her use of color. I HAVE heard of all the animals she mentions as I teach kindergarten. These are very familiar animals used in other Arctic books I have read to my kids. I will be truthful in that the text doesn't lend itself to be asked "TO READ AGAIN AND AGAIN!" If you want the book for the pictures, you will be pleased. The book's entirity I would leave for first grade through fourth who could study the use of her wordings in the story. I rated the book higher because it is a very good book if used with the right age of children.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wording is poetically written
I gave this book a 3 because my 5yr old loves it.He's fascinated with the animals only.He will not sit through the entire book as I read to him.I think partly because the words are too poetically written for a young age group. This is one book that he can't memorize page by page. Some of the animals in the book, I've never heard before (for instance, caribou, lemming, ptarmigan.)The book isn't exciting to me and this is one I dread reading to my son.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book is better than a one-star!
A very quick read, granted, but the illustrations are beautiful. This is the kind of book youngsters will want to look at again and again.I haven't compared it to Yolen's other books, so maybe I would give it less, but for now it deserves a 4. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Our Favorite!
This is a favorite in our family! My 10 month old son loves this book and we read it at least once a day.We have been reading it to him for several months and it is by far his favorite book out of all the books we read.He now lifts all the flaps on each page and knows what is under each flap.He loves the puppy at the end and pats his head.We also bought the "Dear Santa" book and have started reading that as well.I strongly recommend this book for children 7 months and up.

3-0 out of 5 stars A So-So Book - a review of "Dear Zoo"
This book is okay.Others raved about it but my three year old son found it boring. The reason I think is that he *wasn't* introduced to this book as a baby or toddler.First books generally tend to remain favorites, so my advice would be not to buy this for a Preschooler.A baby or young toddler would probably like it fine.
5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite in our house
Dear Zoo was a favorite first book for both of my boys. They both learned to anticipate and lift the flaps by the age of 14 months. My two boys couldn't be any different so this book must be a classic if they both love it so much! And the best part is that my 3 1/2 year old now reads it to his little brother all by himself. They love it. ... Specifically designed, written, and illustrated for children ages 6 months to 4 years, Brian Wildsmith's Zoo Animals is a delightful board book that introduces animals commonly seen at the zoo. Youngsters can name the animals while parents and care givers can teach them interesting facts about each creature represented in vivid colors. Very highly recommended for family, preschool, kindergarten, and day-care board book collections, Brian Wildsmith's Zoo Animals is also available in Spanish: Brian Wildsmith Los animales del zoologico. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Offensive and Embarassing
My six year old checked this book out of her school library. We sat down to read it this evening and we got thgouth about 4 pages and I closed tha book and asked to get something that wasn't neasrly as offensive.I understand the point of view of zoo haters such as Mr. Browne, but I don't appreciae being ambushed in such a way that belittles the family and puts fathers in such a negative hateful light.I love my wife and children, and don't believe that most faithful husbands and loving fathers resemble anything close to the father that Mr. Browne portrays.I'm sorry he had a rotten childhood.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's meant for mature children, not kids
I can't believe so many people who have written a review here. You obviously don't get that this book is not a typical children's picture book. It is meant to be intriguing; it is meant to make us question. To say that it is not an appropriate book for children is not accurate - it was written for gifted children who are inquisitive and curious about humans and our world. I should know, I teach a class full of them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not appropriate for young ears
I checked this book out of our library based on the title alone (big mistake) after a family trip to the zoo, to read to my 4 year old twins. I had to immediately start changing the words so as to not freak them out completely. The illustrations did the job anyway. OK, I "get it" that zoos are not the most noble creations of humankind, but do we have to shove that down a preschooler's throat so soon? They have plenty of time to figure out what injustices we have perpetrated on animals, our environment, and ourselves. This book is SO NOT for the age group at which it is aimed. Unless you are one of those people who don't kids to be kids for as long as possible. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best in the Curious George series.
In this story George and his friend visit the zoo to see a new exhibit. George witnesses a zoo keeper feeding the seals and decides it would be fun to share his snack with the other animals. Because George can't read thesigns by the animal cages he doesn't know that you should not feed theanimals. After giving the zoo keepers a merry chase he is caught and toldthat feeding the animals things they shouldn't eat can make them sick.George feels bad and makes up for it by helping the zoo keepers with thenew exhibit. Excellent story and introduces a number of different animalsfor children to identify. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great one!
We read to our two month old son constantly and Karma Wilson's books are our favorites.Young children love rhymes and hers are some of the best.Even better, her books are fun for the parents, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and educational
Karma Wilson is one of the most awesome children's book authors I have encountered in a long time. There is so much to love about all her books but this one in particular gives a teacher or parent an opportunity to really go to town with adjectives. My daughter and I LOVE "describing words" and we are encouraged page by page to come up with some of our own. There is nothing better than getting the creative juices flowing with delicious words like dreadful, grouchy, conniving and malicious. A fun activity to develop from a book like this is to help your child build his or her own dictionary. Add a word or two a day and watch your child's vocabulary soar!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A funny picturebook story
Doug Cushman illustrates Never, Ever Shout In A Zoo, a funny picturebook story by Karma Wilson of one little girl's shout in a zoo, and the snowball effect it has upon zoo residents. Chaos evolves as frightened animals discover their freedom and the shouter finds herself running from a myriad of hilarious residents.
